Pokémon Headcanons | Drayton (Romance)

Pokémon Scarlett and Violet Indigo Disk DLC Spoilers ahead!

After living, dexing the Indigo disk and fighting Drayton a thousand times, I have finally given in to my urge to write romance headcannons for my favourite toothpaste dragon.

I am open to writing any Pokémon character story, so feel free to drop me a direct message or in my “ask me” and I will be happy to oblige.

SPOILER WARNING AHEAD (Indigo Disk Main Story)

The most supportive person you will meet. If you have a goal in mind, he is supporting you every step of the way. Feeling down? He is taking you by the hands and pulling you up again. Though he will try to talk you out of anything dangerous, Got to keep you alive and all.

He is extremely loyal to you. If he were a Pokémon, he’d be an Arcanine when around you and a Slaking when you’re not with him.

He is a cuddly sleeper, hands down. If you don’t like cuddles, he will understand and will sulk about it every time. But if you are a cuddly person like him, expect to just have him cling to you whenever you’re alone, every chance he gets.

He will trade you any Pokémon you don’t have if he has it.

He is definitely a PDA fan; he loves to just be around you in general.

Hugs from behind are his favourite thing to give you, and he always rests his head on your shoulder when he does.

He loves it when you jump into his arms for a hug. He now has an excuse to catch you and swing you around, just to hear your laugh.

You’re the reason he is even still at this school! He has been held back three separate times, almost getting kicked out at multiple points. Your sheer determination to tutor him and actually get him into a classroom helped persuade the teachers to give him one final chance. And he is taking it and actually trying to do better. His battling skills and Kieran’s demand that he remain only helped him out a little bit.

If you want something, you are going to have to fight him to the checkout because he will try to buy it for you. When he takes you out, he is paying, even if you really want to. And if you try to transfer the BP to his phone after he’s paid, expect it back on your phone the next morning.

All of his Pokémon love you, especially his Flygon. It just likes to follow you around whenever Drayton brings his Pokémon out during picnics.

Speaking of picnics, All the time. Just all the time. If you want to make a sandwich, he is going to watch with stars in his eyes. Not because of the clear masterpiece you have made (iykyk), but because you are making food, and he can eat it.

Surprisingly good at English, I cannot count. Maths is his worst enemy, so you may have to help him out sometimes. Unless it's a mutual thing, then you’re on your own, buddy.

Drayton has a Dipplin in his box. It evolved from an Applin you gave him. Originally, he was going to evolve into Hydrapple, but when Kieran destroyed Drayton's team with one, The Dipplin remained unevolved.

If you are a shiny hunter, he will use his battling skills to grind out herba mystica for you whenever you are away on hunts, just so he can surprise you with his findings. Usually only one because he gives up after 15 minutes. But he tries!

Very protective of you. Not in an obsessive kind of way. He knows you can take care of yourself; given the stories you've told him about Paldea, he knows better than to just rescue you like a damsel in distress. BUT! If someone talks down to you, disrespects you, or upsets you, he will put them in their place so fast - he'll put Luxary to shame. And if someone even dared to lay a hand on you, his Archaludon would be the least of their concerns.

On call on Discord with my friend. They were Shiny hunting a Klawf outbreak because I've been wanting a Shiny Klawf. I picked out the name Rangoon.

They were trying everything they had; encounter sandwich (no sparkling because lack of Herba Mystica), picnic resets, K.O., even a verbal method where they tell the game they'll leave and not come back once they have the Shiny.

It wasn't until, while they were making another encounter sandwich, that I said out loud, "Hey, Rangoon, you wanna commit cannibalism?" as a joke, implying I would make a Klawf claw sandwich for her once I had her.

Picnic ends.

There she is.

Funfact, cannibalism is quite common in crustaceans. So this is not out of the ordinary. It was just unexpected for my friend who cracked up.

Yesterday while doing tera raids to get herba mystica, i randomly came across the exact Pokemon i had been planning to hunt. random shinies are always the most exciting!!! and im so happy to have my lil pea-colored kamen rider mantis!!!! shiny nymble is SO cute also i didnt get the colors exactly right.... its such a beautiful shade of yellow..... i want another one just to keep as a little baby

The Depreciation of Shiny Pokemon in the Switch Era

(forgive me I am at work so cannot format this properly)

So if you know me, you know I am an avid shiny hunter in the post-game of Pokemon Violet. Almost every time I log on I’m slapping herba mystica onto a sandwich and running around like a lunatic for thirty minutes loading in pokemon to try to snag the shiny versions.

But recently, I’ve been hyper aware of exactly how easy it is to get shinies in this game. Like, it’s almost stupid easy at this point.

A sandwich paired with a mass outbreak (and shiny charm) gives you a 1/512 chance of encountering a shiny for 30 MINUTES. I noticed that when I enter the outbreak area, I can get probably 10-14 outbreak pokemon to spawn in. This means if I reset the spawns (run away to respawn and come back) and it takes me approximately one minute to check and respawn them at the 10 pokemon spawn level, I’ll encounter 300 or so pokemon within the sandwich period. That’s almost a 3/5 chance you will get at least one shiny within the 30 minutes!

When you go online to battle other trainers or participate in Tera Raids, you’ll see an outstanding number of shiny pokemon that people are using. It is commonplace to see an entire shiny team during the online battles. It’s at the point where I don’t even notice the shiny’s presence; just a quick “nice” and that’s all I think. I’m not impressed like I used to be.

Now, I never played Sword and Shield, and from what I heard, it had pretty janky shiny hunting mechanics that made it easier to get one. I could be wrong, but it makes me think that this is a Switch Era issue, not just gen 9. I have played Legends Arceus, and it is noticeably easier to get shinies as well, but not nearly as easy as the sandwich method from SV.

Any pokemon in the mainline switch games are practically losing their shiny value. For instance, when I was playing BDSP, I got a shiny Magnemite full odds, which I personally found impressive, but due to Magnemite being on the roster of Pokemon Violet, I just haven’t felt the need to transfer it over. It’s not like people will know it’s origin game unless they look at it off my screen in the summary section. Whereas my shiny Shaymin, I transferred it over with no problem. Shaymin is not in SV, and seems to have been limited to events in Switch era. Thankfully for me, Shaymin was shiny locked in Legends Arceus, and to even get it you need a copy of Let’s Go. I spent twelve hours shiny hunting this thing, so I’m so glad I can show it off.

So what do we do now that shinies are losing their value with every new Pokemon game that releases?

My top guess is marked shiny pokemon.

Recently I’ve been attempting to get more shiny pokemon with unique marks. Like shinies, a player can visibly see when your pokemon is marked, as it is announced in line with the pokémon’s name when sent into battle. This helps your pokemon stand out like being shiny does. Not to mention, it can be hard to get some of the marks as they are rarer spawns, especially on a shiny.

I have to say though, shiny hunting in SV is fun. Making sandwiches with friends, and selecting a cute pick to put it all in place is a slay for Gen9. I don’t feel as mentally exhausted as I did all those encounter resets with good ol’ Shaymin (I wanted to give up). I absolutely love running around with the Academy Special to see if anything comes my way.

Cyclizar - The Under Rated Speedster Shiny

Hi trainers! Today we’re going after one of Paldea’s foundational Pokémon, Cyclizar! What is special about Cyclizar? Well, aside from being the main method of transportation and being the link between some very famous legendary Pokémon, they’re super adorable!

Who wouldn’t want to add this precious Pokémon to their shiny collection? It’s a bit of a challenge beyond your normal hunt, though!

There are only a couple of places where you can find wild Cyclizar. Believe it or not, Cyclizar are somewhat rare encounters. There are only two places in Paldea where you can find them but I like East Area 2 best because there’s a lot of room to run around (which you’re going to need). In order to really bring out the Cyclizar though, we’re going to need a good sandwich.

Here’s the recipe I used:

1 serving of cucumber

1 serving of pickles

3 servings of avocado

Two servings of herba mystica in any combination except sweet & sweet, sweet & sour, and sour & sour. 🌿

Wow! Look at all of those Cyclizar! I guess they really like avocados. Now instead of knocking the Cyclizar out I drove very quickly around the area, giving them time to drive in and out and bring new ones. And you’re definitely going to want to mount up - the Cyclizar move fast!

For my hunt, it took a long time for my shiny Cyclizar to appear but when she did it was immediately obvious! Their cream colored accents stick out a lot, making them easy to identify. The cyan bit on their cheeks coupled with the cream color I’d really reminiscent of, well, retro bicycles! Shiny Cyclizar might be a stand out but when you see one you need to act FAST! They’re just as speedy as their regular variant brethren. Stay mounted to catch up and be sure to take advantage of any sort of pause.

She almost looks dizzy here! I encountered my shiny Cyclizar in the very last moments of my shiny sandwich. I cycled through a lot of Cyclizar before finding my shiny because I didn’t have time to chase them down and knock them out for better odds. If I hadn’t encountered my shiny, I would have recovered my ingredients by restoring my save and repeated the process.

I had to introduce my shiny Cyclizar, who I named Bianchi after a very old type of bicycle, to Miraidon given that they are sort of related (??). Related or not, they were fast friends!

Star’s guide to Masuda Hunting in Scarlet and Violet

So. You want to masuda hunt in Scarlet and Violet. But you don’t know where to start or you’re confused about how it actually works. Well I made a little guide to hopefully help you get started!

Note that this guide is 100% beginner friendly so if you’re already familiar with some aspects feel free to skip some stuff!

What is a masuda hunt and how is it different from an egg hunt?

An egg hunt is when you breed two compatible Pokemon from the same region, this hunt does not have raised shiny odds.

A masuda hunt is when you breed two compatible Pokemon from different regions, which drastically raise the odds to 1 in 683 without the shiny charm and 1 in 512 with the shiny charm. The key to this hunting method is the parents of the Pokemon.

The regions in the game are tied to the languages. For example, if you put your game in French then all the Pokemon you catch are set to be French as well. So you can trade for a Pokemon from *any* other region to masuda hunt.

How do I breed?

To breed in Scarlet and Violet, you need to set up a picnic with the Pokemon you’re breeding in your team. Make sure you don’t accidentally have another Pokemon in your team that’s compatible with the Pokemon you’re breeding. You need a male and female Pokemon, and the child will be the female’s species. Except for breeding with a Ditto, which can breed with any Pokemon regardless of gender and whose eggs always are the non-Ditto species.

Once you set up it becomes a simple waiting game, just sit by the picnic basket next to the table and occasionally check.

How do I know if my Pokemon can breed?

You can check to see if Pokemon are compatible by looking up their egg groups, Pokemon need to be in the same egg group in order to breed. Unless like mentioned before it’s Ditto. There’s also the no eggs discovered egg group, which can’t breed. This includes baby pokemon, legendaries, (most) mythicals and special Pokemon like the paradoxes.

But this is really slow, can I make it quicker?

Yes you can! And I’d recommend you do because it is very slow to hunt, especially in Scarlet and Violet since half the hunt is simply sitting still collecting eggs.

The first way to speed things up is to use a sandwich with egg power. This increases the amount of eggs you get and decreases the steps needed to hatch them. 

I personally wouldn’t recommend wasting herba mystica on an egg power lvl 3 sandwich, but there’s a great lvl 2 one! #17, the great peanut butter sandwich. All it takes is banana, butter and peanut butter so it’s really low cost for the boost you get. Just make them before collecting eggs, and make them before hatching them. 

The second way to speed things up is with specific abilities. If you put a Pokemon with Flame Body, Steam Engine or Magma Armor in your party it halves the steps needed to hatch eggs.

Though do note that some Pokemon require more steps than others to hatch. It still isn’t a fast shiny hunt!

Some extra tips

-I’d highly recommend just getting a Ditto from a different region, it’s most common for these hunts! If you’re not sure how, the Pokemon Home app has a GTS. People often put Ditto’s from their own region in there to trade with ones from different regions.

-Don’t hatch them in a place with a lot of “aggressive” Pokemon. They can run up to you while you’re in the hatching animation and force you into a battle.

-You can make things more fun by hunting multiple Pokemon at once! We call this an egg roulette, and it wasn’t possible before SV. Personally I’m shiny hunting the starters by putting a few ones in my team with a Ditto. Just make sure the ones from your region are all the same gender so they don’t breed amongst eachother instead

-You don’t need to have a recipe unlocked to make it. If you have the ingredients, you can make the sandwich in creative mode. This is especially easy for the lvl 2 egg sandwich I mentioned earlier since it’s only 3 ingredients

-You can release multiple pokemon at once via Home! So you're not stuck to slowly releasing them individually

the poketism is trying to dig its claws into me so im reinstalling pokemon violet on my switch to play through the game all over again. my favorite activity last time i played was shiny hunting, but without NSO its incredibly difficult to get herba mystica for shiny hunting sandwiches and i do NOT want to spend money on that shit again just so i can join raids

i like to periodically farm for mystica (probably every couple weeks or so) but i've been running low lately bc im Lazy....

to conserve it, ive been doing a lot of encounter power level 2 sandwiches though! :] im also a huge fan of doing outbreaks with humungo/teensy power sandwiches active! (no sparkling power usually, the boosted odds are enough for me and it's a bit overkill to use herba mystica on top of it imo)

i want to say probably like. 50% of the hunts i do are with sparkling power. 40% are either done using outbreaks and/or encounter power level 2 and then 10% are just random finds as i'm runnin around with no sandwiches active

you can also do encounter power level 3 sandwiches without sparkling power, but they still require one herba mystica to create

matt absolblogspokemon has a link on his website that lists some encounter power 3/humungo or teensy power 3 sandwiches that use herba mystica too, you just need to have access to another save to create them bc the number of ingredients required is more than one person can use

Help for hunting feebas.

1) This is an easy sandwich for encounter power water lv 2. Helps with the resetting. I got my outbreak standing by the bridge.

2) This sandwich is useful if you are just hunting for a jumbo feebas and don't want to use herba mystica. (This sandwich is also the only water lv 2 humungo I saw so feel free to tell me if there are others.)

3) Here is the sandwich for a big shiny feebas with a mark. The outbreak is your friend here. Doesn't have to be sour hm, that's just what I used.

Also a pokemon that swims or floats above the water will help while you travel between the 2 caves. I used raichu since it could fight in the small passageway.

i started with a fairy sandwich to maybe try and hunt sylveon but that was a mistake i shoulda just tried for eevee cuz there were too many dogs and keys (i'm gonna wait for an outbreak to maybe reattempt)

so i went over to tagtree thicket in hopes of maybe getting a mimikyu but no fate decided to give me two shiny impidimp which i GUESS they're a cool shiny but i wanted mimikyu

so when the sandwich was up not too long after the second impidimp shiny i was like 'fuck you' and made a ghost one to stop impidimp spawns, and i got a mimikyu in 7 mins 😌

even more luck was on my side when i went over to the secluded beach and got a shiny sandyghast after not too long looking

went to uh the something pass in kitakami. infernal pass. in hopes of getting litwick but uh there was also the. um. ghost with a skull. duskull? which has a good shiny but after driving around for a bit i wasn't feeling it so i went to wisteria pond to get the ghost oricorio and i manage to get it shiny with 4 mins left of my sandwich. probably gonna change it to the fire one at some point w/ nectar

my shiny luck is normally sooo terrible and i'm lucky to get one shiny off of a sandwich lol. so this was a nice change of pace. for once the herba mystica didn't feel like it was somewhat wasted :3

So let's see. I got three shinies today without spending any herba mystica. I reset for a white flower Flabebe because I did go for it after all, but it was in a really awkward spot: the creek outside of Mesagoza which you can't jump between there and the city without getting loaded somewhere else. The shiny was even harder to see than I thought, I was inspecting every one that spawned. Then I got another Litwick, which showed up very quickly. Easier to see than the first time I got one, but I maintain that it's not a good shiny. Then while grinding 6 star raids, I noticed I had a Houndstone outbreak which did interest me. I was fully prepared to make a sandwich once I chained enough, but a shiny appeared before I even got the "definitely starting to get lower" prompt. The other two had boosted odds because of the event, I guess Houndstone just wanted to make up for lost time.

I did use up two herbas now, but for a good cause. Tandemaus. Can you believe that I did it? Possibly the hardest base form pokemon to shiny hunt.

I have a hunch that herba mystica will be found as sparkling items on the ground in the deepest part of Area Zero once the Indigo Disk comes out.

Last minute wishlist for the Pokemon Presents today:

- while I want a new Unova game with my whole soul, I also want the Pokemon Company to slow the fuck down! For their employees AND the quality of their games! So the ideal for me (that probably won’t happen) is a teaser for a gen 5 game that won’t come out until late 2024 at the earliest.

- We’re pretty much guaranteed info about the dlc, and I’m really hoping for an easier way to get herba mystica. I’m paying $25 for the dlc, make it easier to get the magic plants please.

- In a similar vein, I’d love some kind of item or feature we can unlock to get a visual or audio cue for shinies. I love shiny hunting in this game, but some are just impossible to see on the screen and it’s infuriating.

- More regional variants please.
