a/n: so i actually had a cute little note written out about how this is so boston sports coded when i started writing this OVER A YEAR AGO. but this is actually just my boyfriend and i with our rival sports teams. anyway enjoy!
“MAMA I STILL DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY I’M HERE.”
y/n l/n spoke as she drove through massachusetts in her run down mustang, knowing this was the last place she wanted to be.
“because it’ll be good for you! you’ll be able to hang with your auntie mia, be right by the beach and maybe meet a few people this summer!’her mother told her, and y/n rolled her eyes, “i’d rather be at yankee stadium.”
“you’re right by fenway! why not go there when the yankees are in town?”her mother questioned, and y/n made a face as she passed by a sign, welcoming her into cousins beach massachusetts, knowing she was close to her aunts.
“absolutely not.”
“why not?!”her mother questioned as y/n’s gps directed her to take a left, and y/n had an absolutely disgusting feeling.
“that’s an absolute sin in new york.”the h/c cringed at the thought, “jail time, punishable by death.”
“alright i get it.”y/n’s mother chuckled, knowing how dramatic her daughter could be about her favorite sports team, “text me tonight alright?”
“will do, bye mama.”y/n spoke, and the line went completely dead with cruel summer by taylor swift starting to blast through her speakers.
it was a few minutes before she pulled into her auntie mia’s driveway, and laid on the horn to signal her arrival to her aunt’s home, only to see her walk out from the house next door with her hands in the air.
“i thought you weren’t supposed to be here for another hour?”her aunt questioned as y/n hopped out of the car with a wide smile spread across her face, “your favorite niece is a speed demon!”
mia let out a laugh before y/n raced across the yards, tackling her aunt in a tight hug, “i’ve missed you!”
“i’ve missed you more ruthie!”mia exclaimed, before walking with the girl back towards the house she came from, and y/n threw her head back knowing her aunt was referencing her middle name.
“where are you taking me?”the h/c girl giggled as her aunt walked her inside the next door neighbors house, “i am not even properly dressed mimi.”
“oh who cares!”mia exclaimed, waving the teen girl off as the two walked inside, and y/n spotted a blonde woman walking back into the beach house that had been deemed as ‘beck’s house.’
“i thought that was you i heard!”the woman exclaimed as she walked towards the two with one of the biggest smiles spread across her face, “you must be y/n!”
“yeah.”the bronx girl smiled as she was brought into a tight embrace, and y/n chuckled a bit,
the woman pulled back, and cupped the girls' shoulders, taking in her appearance, and she saw her eyes drift back over towards mia, and y/n bit back the smile that threatened to peak out.
“she looks so much like sierra.”the woman pointed out, and y/n’s eyebrows furrowed, “you know my mom?”
“you know how mom and i always talked about laurel and beck from college?”mia questioned, and the h/c girl nodded, before mia nodded her head towards the blonde woman that stood in front of her, “this is beck.”
the girls mouth made an ‘oh’ shape, causing the older women to laugh, and ushered the l/n girl to sit down.
“where are the kids?”mia asked as beck ran around the kitchen, gathering things for the two girls.
“well, somehow laurel convinced all of them to do the grocery shopping for the week, and they’ve been gone for almost two hours.”beck explained, and a loud laugh escaped from mia’s lips before the three started to talk about anything and everything.
it felt like hours before the peace was disturbed by a loud crash as soon as the front door was opened, and yelling soon followed.
“i told you not to pack these bags heavy!” y/n’s head snapped towards the front door, silently observing the scene in front of her as the two boys struggled to pick up whatever had fallen out of the bags.
“it’s not my fault that they aren’t sturdy!”another argued, before y/n saw a beautiful girl walk through the front door, carrying another bag and a pizza in her hand.
“hi susannah!”the girl greeted beck before waving to y/n, one the new yorker returned back.
y/n continued to watch the front door as the last of the groceries came in, along with another boy, wearing a red sox cap on the top of his head.
“new york, huh?”the boy questioned as soon as he made his way into the kitchen, nodding towards the aaron judge shirt y/n had on, causing the girls cheeks to become inflamed.
“forgot i had it on.”y/n admitted, before standing up and pushing her chair in, “on that note, i have a lot of unpacking to do.”
“thank you, beck.”y/n thanked the woman, before rushing out of the house and towards her aunts, where her mustang sat with all of her luggage.
as she unraveled her luggage from the car and brought it in, her head was filled with the boy who had called her out in red sox territory. brown hair, blue eyes and the cutest dimples she had ever seen.
there was one problem throughout all of it though,
he was a red sox fan.
it was y/n’s number one rule when it came to even liking someone. if they were a red sox, islanders, or patriots fan, they were absolutely out of the question. she couldn’t stand them half the time, so how could she be in a relationship with one?
‘absolutely not.’ she thought as she placed her clothing into drawers, making the guest room feel somewhat like home, ‘you don’t even know him.’
and so that’s what y/n sat with, for days. it was all she could think about. the boy next door with brown hair and blue eyes, with that stupid red sox hat on.
it wasn’t until days later that the two met again, and when they did, it was during beck’s fourth of july party.
y/n was already two drinks in and had kept by her aunt's side as much as she could without interacting with many people. she didn’t know anybody, and the new yorker did not want to run into the boy with the red sox hat.
but, the universe had other plans for the girl from new york.
“y/n! i forgot to introduce you to conrad the other day!”beck exclaimed, and y/n furrowed her eyebrows as she saw the woman waving over someone.
“conrad, this is y/n.”susannah introduced the two, and y/n looked up at the boy with slight confusion, “she’s staying with mia for the summer.”
“red sox boy.”y/n blurted out before she could even stop herself, and she saw a smile spread across conrads face as mia hit the girls arm, “little miss bronx.”
a scowl fell across y/n’s face as she heard mia and susannah chuckle, and y/n heard her aunt mention something about conrad taking the girl down towards the beach.
next thing she knew, she was stuck with the boy.
“so, new york?”conrad questioned as the two walked, and y/n took a sip of her drink before nodding, “what brought you up to cousins?”
“a mother who wants me to live my life outside of yankee stadium.”the girl grinned as a laugh fell out of the boys lips, “found out how much i was spending on yankees tickets and sent me here.”
“how much?”conrad questioned, and the girl shook her head, “too much.”
as the two continued to walk the beach, talking about their teams dislike for each other, what the boy had planned for the summer, and what games conrad was going to see in boston this summer.
“have you even been to fenway park?”he questioned, and y/n shook her head with a laugh.
“why would i do that?”the girl fired back as she took a sip of the water conrad had snagged for her. “i have yankee stadium at my ready whenever i want.”
conrad chuckled as the two continued to walk down, before looking down at his phone and turning to the girl with a smile, “you busy on friday?”
the h/c raised an eyebrow as she looked at the boy she was walking with, letting her curiosity get the best of her, “why?” she questioned as she watched the wheels turn within conrad’s head.
a wide grin spread across the boys face and y/n instantly knew whatever he was about to suggest would mean having to go into the city she absolutely despised.
“the sox are home.”conrad brought up, with his boston accent peeking through, something that y/n hadn’t noticed til that moment, “you could go see the oldest ballpark ever.”
“hell no.”
“why not!”the boy laughed as he threw his arms up dramatically, and y/n rolled her eyes, “you cannot tell me you have never wanted to experience sweet caroline on a friday night in early july.”
“i haven’t.”y/n reassured him as she brushed some of the hair that was stuck to her face away, “and i never will.”
“if you ever think i will end up at fenway park when the yanks aren’t playing, you’re dead wrong.”y/n continued on with her tangent, and conrad had a wide smile on his face, “especially in red sox gear.”
“keep dreaming pretty boy.”
★
SOMEHOW, ALMOST THREE DAYS LATER Y/N ENDED UP INSIDE OF FENWAY PARK.
it was the middle of the eighth inning when the opening notes to sweet caroline had started to play throughout the stadium, and conrad had a wide grin spread across his face.
“c’mon ruthie, it’s a classic!”he shouted over the music before helping the girl stand to her feet, and wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
ruthie, never did y/n think someone calling her ruthie would send butterflies throughout her entire body, especially at a stadium she thought she would hate. but yet here she was, under the lights of fenway park with sweet caroline blasting and she was quickly picking up the words to it.
she had never felt this way with anyone back home. y/n never thought that someone would be able to get her inside a rival stadium when the new york yankees weren’t the opposing team. as she looked over to the blue-eyed boy, she could feel herself quickly falling more and more for a boy she barely knew.
as sweet caroline faded out, y/n watched as conrad took the spoked b hat off of the top of his head, and place it onto the top of hers. the boston boy expected her to immediately rip it off and throw a fit, but as the first pitch was thrown, she kept in on.
in new york they’d call it a sin, but y/n l/n was wearing boston’s red for conrad fisher.

𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 ・゜・。. tyler’s brothers come to tennessee to surprise her but end up being surprised themselves.
April 15, 2021
“Mat! I’m getting in the shower!” Tyler calls out to her boyfriend of just a couple of weeks as she gathers her clothes from the bed where she had them laid out, "Kelsea is on her way! Let her in please!"
"Okay!" The Islanders player calls back, "Waffles or pancakes?!"
"Waffles!"
Mat shakes his head with a laugh as he hears the shower turn on as he walks towards the kitchen, getting everything ready to make them breakfast before they left to her rehearsal for her show tonight.
He can hear her singing from his place at the stove, causing a smile to appear on his face as he poured the batter into the waffle maker, closing the lid so that it could cook.
As he pulls two plates from the cabinet, someone begins to aggressively ring the doorbell, "Kelsea, you have a freaking key! Why do you ring the doorbell — oh."
Staring back at him were Quinn, Jack and Luke all with different expressions on their faces.
Quinn's grip on the duffel in his hand loosens, causing the bag to hit the porch as he looks up at the Islanders man with a glare on his face.
Jack's hand is still raised from when he was ringing the doorbell, eyes wide as his eyes shifted from Mat to the inside of his sister's house.
And Luke's jaw dropped at the sight of the shirtless hockey player before an amused chuckle left his lips at the fact that his sister had gotten caught red handed with a guy so early in the morning.
"What are you doing here?" Quinn questions, "And where the hell is your shirt?"
"That is a good questioned....," Mat scratches his nervously as he points behind him, "Let me...go find it."
Jack points as the boy rushed towards the bedrooms, "Did that — what?"
"Baby!" Mat rushed through the bedroom door where his girlfriend stood with a towel around her body as she brushed out her wet hair. "That was not Kelsea at the door!"
"What? Who was it?"
"Oh, you know, just all of your brothers!" Mat hissed quietly, running his fingers through his hair.
The brush in her hand slips, landing on the floor as she looks up with wide eyes, "What? What are they doing here?"
"I didn't stop to ask questions! Where the hell did my shirt go?!"
"It's dirty, Mat." Tyler says as she quickly gets dressed, "You just — change and I'll try to defuse the situation out there."
"Quinn looked like he wanted to kill me!"
With a sigh, Tyler quickly makes her way down the hallway towards the living room where her brothers were at, "Luke!"
Luke grins happily at his older sister, crushing her into a hug, "Tyler! Oh, you are in big trouble."
"Yeah, I figured." She mumbles as the oldest and the youngest pull away from each other.
"So, do you want to explain to us why Mat Barzal just answered your door without a shirt on?!" Quinn stands up to look at his sister, arms crossed over his chest.
"Oohh, he's giving you the dad look." Jack clicks his tongue as he turns around to look at his older siblings just as Mat comes from the bedroom now dressed in what he's wearing to the concert.
"Okay, so funny story, actually." Tyler laughs nervously as she rocks on the heels of her bare feet, "Soo, Mat and I are.... together."
"Toge...you're together?" Quinn raises an eyebrow.
"Quinn," Tyler sighs, "Can we please do this after my show tonight? I seriously do not have the time for this."
𐙚⋆˙˚◞♡
"Hi, friends." Tyler smiles at the loud screams that fill her ears as she sits on a stool in the middle of the large stage, halfway through with the show. "How's everybody doing tonight?"
The crowd cheers louder causing an even bigger smile to breakout across the blonde's face.
"That's what I like to hear! So, I had my whole set list set for tonight, but I wanna change things up a bit." Tyler spoke as she set the sparkling silver microphone on the stand, "Okay, somebody special is in the crowd tonight and I kinda wrote a song for him. It's also a new song that had yet to be released so you guys will be the first ones to hear it. This is Sad Songs For Sad People, and I promise, it's not what it sounds like." She laughs as her band behind her begins to play.
"When I'm drivin' down the road, I got my radio plain' heartbreak FM. And if I got blue skies, I don't know why but I'd rather see a cloud roll in." Tyler sings with a sparkle in her eye, "Boy, since I met you somethin' in me changed."
Quinn watches his older sister singing as he sits next to Mat, Jack and Luke on the other side of his. His arms are crossed and a straight look on his face, mad that Tyler hadn't told him about her and Mat, the two always telling each other everything.
"I guess it's probably time, I saw somethin' 'bout those eye, and your smile, you know what it does to me. 'Cause of you, I got somethin' new to sing. I write sad songs for sad people, somethin' 'bout the pain."
The older of the Hughes brothers smiles softly as he takes notice of the way Mat was looking up at his sister as if she hung the stars in the sky, his phone out as she recorded the blonde sitting on stage.
"I write sad songs for sad people, but I wrote this love song for you."
𐙚⋆˙˚◞♡
"Hey." Tyler's voice spoke from behind Quinn as he sits on the back porch of her house, everyone else in the house asleep, "What are you doing up so late?"
"Just thinking." Quinn mumbled as she moves to sit on the porch swing with him, knees coming up to her chest as she lays her head onto his shoulder.
"Penny for your thoughts?" She mumbled after a few moments of silence.
"Out of all the guys, another hockey player?" Quinn raised an eyebrow though she couldn't see him.
Tyler chuckled, "You knew Mat and I were friends."
"I didn't think you would date the guy!" He throws his hands up, "I thought you learned that lesson after Josh."
"Q, I loved Josh, but I wasn't in love with Josh. He was a good guy, trust me when I tell you that, but it just didn't feel right with him." Tyler says, playing with the rings on her finger, the same very one that she and all of her brothers have, only she wears her constantly.
"But if feels right with Mat? An Islanders player?"
"Being with Mat is like...a breath of fresh air. I feel like I can honestly be myself when I'm with him. And it's not like I intended to fall for him, it just happened over the course of our friendship." She looks out into her backyard as she talks.
"He makes you happy?"
Tyler smiles, "Yeah, he makes me happy."
Quinn sighs as he turns his head to kiss the top of her head, "I'm not going to tell you who date, especially since you're older than me, I just want you to be happy with who you are dating."
"I am."
"Good." Quinn pauses, "But I'll kiss his ass if he ever hurts your feelings."
She lets out a laugh, "I don't doubt that. I love you, bubba."
"I love you too, sissy."

Texas Orange
SUMMARY: Heavily based on the song "Tennesse Orange" by Megan Moroney. You're in the early stages of your relationship with Glen and he takes you to a Texas football game with him.
**This was my first time writing about Glen himself and not one of his characters. I really loved the idea and the song that inspired this fic, however think I may stick to writing his characters instead of him as a person in the future. **
WARNINGS: None
WORD COUNT: 5.4k
The Texas sun hangs low in the sky, casting a warm, golden light over the landscape as you and Glen drive through the winding roads of Austin. The truck hums steadily beneath you, the air conditioning a welcome relief from the sweltering heat outside.
You glance over at Glen, dressed in a black t-shirt with the orange Texas Longhorns symbol emblazoned on the chest, and a white Longhorns baseball cap turned backward on his head. His sunglasses shield his eyes from the bright light, and with one hand on the wheel, he holds your hand gently in the other. You glance over at him, and the corners of his mouth lift into a smile when he catches you looking at him.
"This is amazing," you say, taking in the sprawling hills and the way the cityscape rises in the distance. "I can't believe I've never been here before."
Glen chuckles, his voice low and smooth, the kind of sound that makes you feel instantly at ease. "I still can't believe that. Austin's pretty great. But, I mean, you grew up on the coast, right? Plenty of beauty there too."
You nod, your mind flashing back to memories of ocean breezes and sandy beaches, a world away from the vast, open skies of Texas. "Yeah, but it's different. I've never seen anything quite like this."
He grins, squeezing your hand gently. "You're gonna love it here. Plus, this is only the start. Wait till you see the stadium-it's a whole other world."
You laugh, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves bubble up inside you. "Speaking of the stadium, I've got to admit something. I've never actually been to a football game before. My family wasn't really into sports growing up."
Glen's eyebrows shoot up in surprise, but he quickly recovers with a teasing grin. "You've never been to a game? Well, that changes today. Texas football is like a religion around here. It's something you just have to experience.
"Hopefully I'll fit in okay," you say, half-joking. The thought of stepping into the massive stadium, surrounded by thousands of passionate fans, is both thrilling and a little daunting.
He chuckles, his voice warm with affection. "Don't worry, I'll be right there with you. We'll ease you into it. Plus, my folks are going to be so excited to meet you they're gonna forget about the game, at least for a minute."
The mention of his family makes your stomach flip. This is a big step, meeting his family, even if you've both been keeping things casual. There's a part of you that wonders if this trip is more than just a casual one for Glen.
"What are they like? Your family, I mean," you ask, trying to keep your tone light.
Glen's expression softens, a fond smile playing on his lips. "They're great. They'll love you, I promise. My mom might be a little overwhelming at first, but that's just because she cares so much. And my dad, well he's the quiet type, but once you get him talking about anything Texas-related, you won't be able to get him to stop."
You smile at the thought, feeling a bit more at ease. "They sound like a good bunch."
"They are," Glen says, his voice sincere. "And they're going to love you. How could they not?"
His words bring warmth to your chest, and you squeeze his hand in return. "I hope so."
As the two of you continue to drive further into Austin, Glen gives you a mini tour. He points out a few landmarks - his favorite taco place, the park where he used to hang out with friends, and a music venue where he once saw an incredible show. You listen, soaking in every detail, feeling a sense of connection to this place that Glen clearly loves so much.
"Here we are," Glen says as he pulls into a parking spot near the stadium. The massive structure looms ahead, a sea of burnt orange and white, alive with energy even from a distance.
You take a deep breath, a mixture of anticipation and nerves swirling inside you. "This is it, huh?"
"This is it," Glen confirms, turning to you with a smile that melts away any lingering doubts. "Ready?"
"As I'll ever be," you say, smiling back at him.
As you step out of Glen's truck, you notice that nearly everyone around you is decked out in burnt orange and white. Texas Longhorns hats, jerseys, and t-shirts, all show their pride. The sea of matching colors makes you acutely aware that you're the only one not wearing any team gear.
Glen steps around the truck to join you, noticing the way your eyes scan the crowd. He gives you a playful nudge with his elbow. "Feeling a little out of place?"
You laugh, shrugging slightly. "Just a bit. I think I missed the memo on the dress code."
Without missing a beat, Glen reaches up to the back of his head and pulls off the white Longhorns cap he's been wearing. He turns it around in his hands before stepping closer to you. "Here, you can wear this. Can't have you being the odd one out."
Before you can respond, he's already placing the cap on your head. His fingers brush against your hair as he adjusts the fit, making sure it sits just right. You tilt your head up at him, a small smile tugging at the corners of your lips. "How do I look?"
Glen takes a step back to admire his work, a slow smile spreading across his face. "You look great in Orange. Might even say you wear it better than I do."
You roll your eyes playfully, feeling a warmth spread through you at his words. "You might be biased."
"Maybe," he says with a grin, his eyes sparkling with affection. "But I'm also right."
As you walk towards the section of the parking lot reserved for tailgating, Glen drapes an arm over your shoulders, keeping you close. "Tell you what, we'll hit up the merch stand once we're inside. Gotta get you a t-shirt to complete the look."
"You don't have to do that," you start to protest, but Glen shakes his head.
"I want to," he insists, squeezing your shoulder lightly. "Consider it part of the full Texas football experience."
You smile up at him, feeling more at ease with every step. "Alright, but only if you help me pick it out."
"Deal," Glen says, leaning down to press a quick kiss to your temple before leading you into the sea of orange and white.
The aroma of sizzling barbecue fills the air as you and Glen approach the tailgating area. Rows of trucks and RVs are lined up in the parking lot, each decked out in burnt orange. Flags bearing the Texas Longhorns logo flutter in the breeze, and the sounds of laughter, music, and clinking bottles create a festive atmosphere.
Glen leads you through the crowd with a confident stride, his hand securely holding yours. As you near a large, lively group gathered around a grill, Glen spots his family and friends.
"There they are," he says, nodding towards the group. "Ready to meet everyone?"
You take a deep breath, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. "Ready as I'll ever be."
Glen gives your hand a reassuring squeeze as you approach the group. His mom, Cyndy, is the first to spot the two of you, and her face lights up with a welcoming smile. She's a petite woman with a warm demeanor, her eyes crinkling at the corners as she waves you over.
"There you are!" Cyndy calls out, pulling Glen into a quick hug before turning her attention to you. "And you must be the one we've been hearing so much about. I'm Cyndy, it's so nice to finally meet you!"
You return her smile, instantly feeling at ease with her friendly nature. "It's great to meet you too. Glen's told me a lot about you."
"Oh, I'm sure he has," Cyndy says with a wink before pulling you into a hug. "Welcome, sweetheart."
Next, Glen's dad, Glen Sr., steps forward with a firm handshake and a nod. He's tall and broad-shouldered, with a quiet strength about him. "Good to have you here," he says simply, but the warmth in his tone is unmistakable.
Then, Glen's sisters Lauren and Leslie, each take their turn to greet you. Lauren gives you a friendly smile. "You're braver than I would be, meeting the whole crew at once like this. They can be a handful, but you'll be fine."
Leslie nudges Glen playfully. "You didn't warn her about us, did you?"
Glen laughs, shaking his head. "I figured I'd let you all speak for yourselves."
As you exchange pleasantries, more of Glen's friends and extended family members join in, introducing themselves and welcoming you with open arms. Someone hands you a cold drink, and before you know it, you're standing around a grill piled high with burgers, sausages, and all the fixings, soaking in the pre-game atmosphere.
The conversation quickly turns to stories about Glen's past. A few of his college buddies, each with a beer in hand, are eager to share some of their favorite memories.
"Remember that time Glen tried to impress a girl by riding a mechanical bull at that honky-tonk?" One of them starts, a grin spreading across his face.
"Oh, I remember!" Another chimes in. "He was so confident, strutted right up there like he was gonna show everyone how it's done. Lasted about five seconds before he got thrown off and landed flat on his back."
The group erupts in laughter, and even Glen can't help but chuckle at the memory. "Yeah, yeah, laugh it up," he says shaking his head. "At least I gave it a shot."
Cyndy leans in closer to you, a glint in her eye. "That's nothing compared to the time he and his sister decided to 'borrow' my car when they were kids. Thought they'd take a little joyride around the neighborhood...until they crashed it into a mailbox."
"Oh no!" You gasp, unable to suppress a laugh.
Lauren grins, shaking her head at the memory. "We were grounded for months. Glen thought he was so slick, but he didn't realize the mailbox he hit belonged to one of Dad's friends."
"Yep," Glen Sr adds with a rare smile, "and that's how they learned not to mess with my car."
The easy banter and lighthearted stories quickly dissolve any lingering nerves you have. Glen's family and friends are down-to-earth, welcoming you into their inner circle as if you've always been a part of it. The more they share, the more you see the depth of their bond and the way they care for each other.
As you take another bite of your burger, you look over at Glen, who's been watching you with a soft smile. "You doing okay?" he asks quietly, leaning in so only you can hear.
You nod, feeling completely at ease now. "Yeah, I'm doing great. Your family's wonderful."
His smile widens as he places a hand gently on your back. "I'm glad you think so. They're a little crazy, but they're mine."
"And now I guess I'm part of them too," you say with a playful grin.
Glen's eyes light up at your words, and he leans in to press a quick, affectionate kiss to your lips. "Yeah, I guess you are."
Just then, one of Glen's friends raises his drink and shouts "Hook 'em, Horns!" The entire group responds in unison, raising their hands in the iconic "Hook 'em Horns" gesture, with pinkies and index figures extended with the thumb tucked grasping the second and third fingers.
You try to mimic the gesture, but you don't quite cooperate. Glen catches your struggle and chuckles softly. "Here, let me help," he says, gently taking your hand in his.
With his warm fingers guiding yours, Glen carefully adjusts your hand, making sure your pinky and index fingers are extended and your thumb tucks the other fingers. His touch is gentle and precise, and you can't help but feel a little flutter in your chest as he concentrates on getting it just right.
"How's that?" you ask, looking up at him with a smile.
He gives your hand a final tweak before stepping back to admire his work. "Perfect," he says, his voice soft and affectionate. "Now you're officially part of the team."
You laugh, feeling a rush of warmth at his words. "Guess I really am one of you now."
The group continues to laugh and share stories as the sun begins to dip lower in the sky, casting a warm glow over the gathering. The pre-game atmosphere, filled with the sounds of sizzling food, clinking bottles, and cheerful banter, is everything you imagined - and more. With Glen's arm draped comfortably around your shoulders and the "Hook 'em Horns" gesture nailed down, you feel a sense of belonging that surprises you in the best possible way.
As the tailgate winds down and the anticipation for the game grows, Glen wraps his arm around your waist, guiding you through the throng of excited fans heading towards the stadium. The air is filled with the sounds of chanting, music, and the collective buzz of thousands of supporters, all eager for the big game.
"Ready for the full game day experience?" Glen asks, glancing over at you with a grin.
You nod, feeling a mixture of excitement and curiosity. "Definitely. Lead the way."
As you approach the entrance, Glen veers off towards a merchandise stand just inside the gate, keeping his promise to get you your very own Texas Longhorns shirt. The stand is awash with burnt orange and white, offering everything from t-shirts to hoodies, foam fingers, and even Longhorns-themed sunglasses.
"Okay, let's find you something," Glen says, scanning the racks of shirts. He picks out a simple, yet classic burnt orange t-shirt with the Texas Longhorns logo emblazoned across the front. Holding it up to you, he grins "How about this one?"
You take the shirt from him, feeling the soft fabric between your fingers. "It's perfect," you say, already imagining yourself fitting right in with the sea of orange in the stadium.
Glen pays for the shirt and then hands it back to you. "Go ahead and try it on. Let's see how it looks."
You pull the t-shirt over your white tank top, the bright orange contrasting perfectly with your outfit. As you smooth the fabric down, Glen steps back to admire the look.
"Hold on," he says, reaching for the white Texas Longhorns baseball cap he had been wearing earlier. With a playful grin, he gently places it back on your head, adjusting the brim so it sits just right. His fingers linger for a moment, tucking a stray strand of hair behind your ear.
You look up at him, a smile playing on your lips. "How do I look?"
Glen's gaze softens as he takes you in, a warm smile spreading across his face. "You look great," he says, his voice filled with genuine affection. "I think orange might be your color."
You laugh softly, feeling a blush creep up your cheeks. "Guess I'm officially part of the team now."
"Absolutely," Glen replies, leaning in to brush a quick kiss against your forehead. "Now, let's get to our seats."
With his arm comfortably draped around your shoulders, Glen guides you through the bustling concourse and up towards the exclusive box seats he reserved for you, his family, and close friends. As you walk, you can't help but notice a few heads turning, whispers following in your wake. It's clear that Glen's presence isn't going unnoticed.
But Glen seems unfazed by the attention, focused entirely on making sure you're comfortable and enjoying yourself. "Don't worry," he says, sensing your unease as you pass by a group of fans who seem to be debating whether or not to approach. "The suite will give us a bit of privacy. It's just us and the people we want to be with."
You give him a grateful smile, relieved at the thought of a more private space. "That sounds perfect."
When you reach the suite, a staff member opens the door, revealing a spacious, comfortable area with large windows offering an unobstructed view of the field. The room is decked out with cozy seating, a fully stocked fridge, and even a table spread with game day snacks.
Glen's family is already there, mingling and settling in, and they greet you warmly as you enter. You quickly realize that this box isn't just a place to watch the game - it's a space where you can relax, enjoy the company, and soak in the experience without any interruptions.
Glen guides you to a seat near the window, right next to him. As you take in the view of the field below, and the energy of the crowd that's starting to pile into the stadium, you feel a sense of excitement bubbling up.
"So, what do you think?" Glen asks, settling in beside you, his hand casually resting on your knee.
You turn to him, your smile reflecting the excitement you feel. "It's incredible."
Glen grins, clearly pleased. "I'm glad you're here," he says giving your knee a gentle squeeze. "Now, get ready for some real Texas football."
Suddenly, the lights dim, and the giant screen at the far end of the stadium flickers to life. The Texas Longhorns logo appears, and the crowd erupts into cheers. You glance over at Glen, who is grinning ear to ear, clearly caught up in the excitement.
"Here they come," he says, nodding towards the tunnel at the edge of the field.
The sound of drums fills the air as the Texas Longhorns marching band begins playing. The brass instruments gleam under the stadium lights and the rhythm of the drums pulses through the stands, making your heart beat a little faster.
As the band starts playing the school fight song, the crowd rises to their feet, the familiar tune echoing throughout the stadium. Glen stands up, pulling you to your feet with him. The sight is breathtaking - the sea of burnt orange, the flags waving proudly, and the booming voices of thousands of fans all joining together in the song.
Glen leans in close, his voice just above a whisper in your ear. "You've got to sing along, it's tradition."
You smile nervously, not sure what the words are, but Glen's enthusiasm is contagious. As the band reaches the chorus, Glen starts singing, his voice blending with the roar of the crowd. "Texas Fight! Texas Fight! And it's goodbye to A&M..."
You start to hum along to the words, your soft voice, almost drowned out by the thousands of others. But Glen's infection energy pulls you in. His eyes spark with excitement. "Louder!" he urges, his grin widening.
You laugh, feeling the last of your hesitation melt away as you throw yourself into the chant, clapping along with the beat and shouting the words with enthusiasm. Glen's pride is evident, and he can't hide his delight at seeing you get into the spirit of the game.
As the team bursts onto the field, the stadium erupts into a thunderous roar. The players, clad in their iconic burnt orange and white uniforms, charge out of the tunnel, the sight of them stirring a fresh wave of excitement into the crowd. The band crescendos into the final notes of the fight song, and the noise level reaches a fever pitch.
Glen wraps an arm around your shoulders, pulling you close as the team lines up on the field. "What do you think?" he asks, his voice barely audible over the noise.
You look up at him, your heart racing with the excitement of the moment. "It's amazing," you reply, your smile wide and genuine. "I can see why you love this so much."
As the players take their positions on the field, the atmosphere in the stadium becomes electric. The roar of the crowd swells, and you can feel the anticipation vibrating through the stands. You're fully immersed in the excitement, your earlier nerves replaced with growing enthusiasm as Glen points out different players and explains the significance of the game.
Just as you start to relax, the opening kickoff is moments away. You're leaning forward in your seat, eyes glued to the field when suddenly - BOOM!
The deafening sound of Smokey the Cannon firing catches you completely off guard. You jump in your seat, your heart racing as the shock of the blast reverberates through your chest.
Glen, noticing your startled reaction, can't help but chuckle. "Sorry, I should've warned you about that," he says, wrapping his arms around you in a comforting embrace. His laugh is warm and affectionate, and he pulls you close, resting his chin on your shoulder. "That's Smokey the Cannon. It fires off at every kickoff. Just part of the tradition."
You lean into his embrace, your initial fright quickly fading as you feel the steady rhythm of his heartbeat against your back. "I think I just aged a few years," you say with a laugh, trying to shake off the lingering adrenaline. "I wasn't expecting that at all."
Glen's grip tightens slightly, his way of reassuring you. "It's loud, but you'll get used to it," he says, his voice gentle and comforting in your ear. "Trust me, by the end of the game, you'll be waiting for it."
You turn your head to catch his eye, feeling a smile tug at the corners of your mouth. "I'll take your word for it," you reply, your nerves settling as you take comfort in his closeness.
The game kicks off, and the action on the field immediately draws you back in. As the players clash, the crowd erupts into cheers and groans, their energy contagious. Glen keeps you close, his arm draped over your shoulders, and you find yourself getting more and more caught up in the excitement of it all.
Throughout the game, Glen is right there, guiding you through the experience. He explains the rules as plays unfold, pointing out the strategy behind each move. "See how the quarterback is scanning the field?" he says at one point. "He's looking for an open receiver, someone who can catch the ball and make a run for it."
You nod, trying to absorb the information. "It's a lot more complicated than I thought," you admit, appreciating his patience.
Glen grins, his eyes twinkling with enthusiasm. "That's what makes it fun," he says. "Once you start to understand the strategy, it's like watching a chess match...only with a lot more action."
As the game progresses, you find yourself cheering along with the crowd, your earlier nerves completely forgotten. Glen's explanations help you feel more connected to the game, and his excitement is infectious. Each time something exciting happens on the field - a touchdown, a particularly good tackle - he turns to you with a grin, eager to share the moment.
"Did you see that?" he asks after a particularly impressive play, his eyes alight with excitement. "That's what they call a 'Hail Mary' - a long pass to try and score a touchdown when time's running out."
You nod, caught up in the moment. "I think I'm starting to get the hang of this," you say, feeling a sense of pride as you follow the flow of the game.
Glen leans in, his voice low and full of affection. "You're doing great," he says, his hand finding yours and giving it a gentle squeeze. "I'm glad you're here with me."
You smile up at him, the warmth of his words making your heart flutter. "Me too," you reply, feeling more at home in the stadium with each passing moment.
As the game continues, the two of you settle into a comfortable rhythm - Glen explaining plays, you cheering along with the crowd, and both of you enjoying the shared experience. It's a day filled with excitement, but also with moments of quiet connection, each one deepening the bond between you.
And by the time Smokey the Cannon fires off again, you barely flinch - too caught up in the thrill of the game and the warmth of Glen's presence beside you.
The final whistle blows and the stadium erupts in a sea of burnt orange and white. Texas has won, and the energy in the air is electric. Fans are cheering, hugging, and celebrating as the Longhorns players wave to the crowd before making their way off the field. You can't help but get caught up in the excitement, clapping along as the band strikes up the fight song one last time.
As the crowd begins to thin out, Glen helps you gather your things, and the two of you make your way out of the suite. The halls of the stadium are still buzzing with excitement, fans streaming toward the exits, chatting excitedly about the game. You notice a few people casting glances your way - recognition flickering in their eyes as they realize who Glen is.
You feel a flutter of nervousness in your chest as the looks become more frequent. The idea of being recognized, of suddenly being in the spotlight, is overwhelming. But before the anxiety can take hold, Glen reaches for your hand. His grip is firm, and reassuring, and he gives you a comforting smile.
"Don't worry," he murmurs, his thumb brushing over the back of your hand. "I'm right here."
His words and his touch soothe you, and you take a deep breath, focusing on the warmth of his hand in yours rather than the curious glances around you. Together, you navigate through the crowd, Glen's presence beside you acting as an anchor, keeping you steady.
As you step out into the cool evening air, the noise of the stadium fades behind you, replaced by the more distant sounds of fans celebrating in the parking lot. The crowd is thinning out, and the atmosphere feels less intense, allowing you to finally relax.
Glen leads you to his truck, and as you approach it, he glances over at you, his expression softening. "So...your first Texas game," he says as he opens the passenger door for you. "What did you think? Did it live up to the hype?"
Your smile, climbing into the truck and settling into the seat. "It really did," you reply, your tone reflecting the surprise in your voice. "I didn't think I'd get so caught up in it, but I did. The energy, the crowd, the way everyone was so passionate...it was contagious."
Glen closes the door and walks around to the driver's side, sliding into the seat beside you. He doesn't start the truck right away, instead turning slightly to face you, his gaze soft and warm.
"I'm really glad you came," he says, his voice sincere. "It means a lot to me to share this with you."
You feel your heart swell at his words, and you take a moment to let them sink in. "I'm glad I came too," you say softly, your eyes meeting his. "It's not something I ever imagined myself doing, but I'm really happy I did."
Glen reaches out and takes your hand again, his fingers intertwining with yours. "You were a great sport about everything," he says, a playful smile tugging at his lips. "Even when Smokey scared the life out of you."
You laugh, shaking your head at the memory. "I'll admit, that was a bit much," you say with a grin. "But honestly, the whole experience was incredible. I see now why it's such a big deal for you."
Glen's smile widens, and for a moment, the two of you simply sit there, hands clasped, sharing a quiet, meaningful silence. The excitement of the day is still buzzing in your veins, but there's also a deeper feeling - a sense of connection, of understanding, that goes beyond just the game.
"I'm really happy you're here with me," Glen says quietly, his voice carrying a weight of emotion. "This...it all means a lot more with you by my side."
His words hit you in a way you didn't expect, and you realize just how much this day, and this man, have come to mean to you. You squeeze his hand, feeling a warmth spread through you that has nothing to do with the game or the crowd, but everything to do with him.
"I'm happy to be here," you reply, your voice just as soft. "With you."
For a moment, the world outside the truck seems to fade away, leaving just the two of you in the stillness of the parking lot. It's a moment of quiet reflection, of mutual appreciation, and as you sit there, you realize that this experience has brought you closer to Glen in a way you hadn't anticipated.
Glen starts the engine, but before he shifts into gear, he leans over and presses a tender kiss to your lips. It's soft, sweet, and filled with unspoken emotion, a perfect ending to a day you'll never forget.
As he pulls away, you both smile at each other, the bond between you stronger than ever. As the truck rolls out of the parking lot, leaving the stadium behind, you feel a sense of contentment, knowing that this is just the beginning of something truly special.
The next morning sunlight filters through the curtains, casting a warm glow across your bedroom. You sit on the edge of your bed, phone in hand, absently twisting the brim of Glen's baseball cap between your fingers. The events of the previous day play on a loop in your mind - Glen's infectious enthusiasm, the electrifying atmosphere of the game, and the way he held your hand, guiding you through it all. A smile tugs at your lips as you remember the look in his eyes when he told you how much it meant to him to have you there.
But now, in the quiet of your room, the excitement of the game has given way to do something deeper - an unmistakable warmth in your chest, a feeling that's both exhilarating and a little terrifying. You realize that what started as casual dating has slowly grown into something more. And for the first time, you feel the need to talk to someone about it.
You take a deep breath and scroll through your contacts, landing on your mom's number. The familiar sound of the ringtone fills the room as you hold the phone to your ear, your heart beating a little faster with each passing second. Finally, you hear her voice on the other end, warm and welcoming as always.
"Hi, sweetie! How are you?" Your mom greets you, the sound of her voice instantly soothing some of your nerves.
"Hey, Mom," you reply, trying to keep your voice steady. "I'm good. Just...thinking about a lot of things."
Your mom chuckles softly. "Well, it sounds like you've got something on your mind. What's going on?"
You pause for a moment, gathering your thoughts before you begin. "I met somebody, and...he's really great, Mom. he's got these green eyes that I could just get lost in, and he's so sweet. He opens doors for me, he makes me laugh, and he...he doesn't make me cry." Your voice softens as you say the last part, a small admission of how different this feels from anything you've experienced before.
There's a brief silence on the other end, and then your mom speaks, her voice gentle. "He sounds wonderful, honey. Tell me more about him."
A smile spreads across your face as you think about Glen. "He's from Texas, not exactly where we're from, but...when I'm with him, he feels like home. He's got me doing things I never thought I'd do, like going to a football game." You laugh, still a little surprised at how much you enjoyed the experience.
Your mom laughs too, a mix of surprise and amusement in her tone. "A football game? You? Never thought I'd see the day."
"I know, right?" you reply, shaking your head at the memory. "He even gave me his hat to wear because I didn't have any Texas gear. And, Mom...I liked it. I really liked it."
There's a pause, and you can almost hear your mom's smile through the phone. "It sounds like you're really falling for this guy."
You bite your lip, the truth of her words sinking in. "I think I am," you admit, your voice barely above a whisper. "Mama...I like him a lot. I even learned the words to the Texas Fight Song."
Your mom's laughter rings through the phone, full of warmth and understanding. "It sounds like he's got you wrapped around his finger," she teases, but there's no judgment in her voice, only happiness for you.
"Maybe he does," you say, feeling a warmth spread through you at the thought. "But...it feels right, Mom. He feels right."
Your mom's voice softens, a hint of emotion creeping in. "I'm happy for you, sweetheart. Just take things one step at a time, and follow your heart."
You nod, even though she can't see you. "Thanks, Mom. I will."
As you end the call, you feel a sense of peace wash over you. Talking to your mom has helped you put things into perspective, and you realize that you're ready to see where things go with Glen, no matter where that may lead. The thought of him brings a smile to your face, and you can't help but feel a flutter of excitement at what the future might hold.

People "well, actually"ing in the comments. It's about ASSOCIATION
The person who keeps responding with colors. You get it. In fact, I was going to have the color orange as an option for Tennesse but I didn't think anyone would understand.
Vermont was heavily known as the gay marriage state at the time. Vermont was practically code for gay marriage in the 00s. And many people outside the US, and even within it, associate Texas with being the biggest, or being very large.
I do regret not having Bernie Sanders as an option for Vermont and Fnaf for Utah because they slipped my mind. They will be on the next round of polls for sure

Don't ever force yourself to read what you aren't comfortable with.
A cigarette hangs loosely from your lips as you raise a match to light it, inhaling deeply as the tobacco smoke fills your mouth and lungs. The match still burns, a bright, orange ember against the midnight blanket above you. Its stars shine down on you, almost mocking you in a way as they twinkle and rejoice with one another.
You wish you were a star. So far up in the sky that nothing from this plane of existence could touch you. Instead, you would be the one looking down on the world. Judging the poor souls who sell themselves to the devil to get by. Humans were nasty creatures. Lying, stealing, robbing, killing. All of it. Horrible business that you dream of getting away from, as if the opportunity would ever be so kind as to present itself to you.
Another drag of your cigarette, another minute of the stars judging you.
The moon sits high up on her pedestal, illuminating the world beneath her. She outlines the ridges and valleys of your face, obscured partly by the hat you wear. It had been your fathers; aged and worn but still as loved as the day he had given it to you. Two feathers were tucked between its ribbon, blowing in the wind that passes through your camp.
To think that this was your life now - you went from having everything, from being the woman others envied with your husband and son, a fine house and a fine source of income. Then it was gone, leaving you living out of a tent, cooking poor cuts of meat over a campfire. The only living thing that didn’t want to kill you nearby was the Andalusian who was absentmindedly grazing on a patch of grass, unaware of the danger he was in.
His dark bay coat is illuminated by the orange bath of light the fire gives off, its flames flickering high into the night sky as you stare wistfully into them, wishing you could wake up tomorrow and be anywhere but here.
All your life you’d sworn you’d never kill anyone, whether they deserved it or not, but in the past month or so that promise had been quickly thrown out the window and left to the wolves. Your body count was growing steadily each day, by no choice of your own.
Bounty hunters, traveling from all over trying to bring you in, dead or alive, as the posters read.
You’d learnt fairly quickly how to shoot a gun, and how to shoot one well, at that. Your husband would’ve had your head if you’d ever thought of using his rifle, and a part of you wanted to laugh at how he’d react if he saw you with it now, like an additional limb to your body. The other part of you saw no reason to laugh at anything anymore though, and so you didn’t.
Your face is solemn as you sit, losing yourself in the hypnotizing flames.
Your breath hitches as a flock of birds erupt from a tree, a little further down the trail of the mountain, and slowly you rise to your feet, grabbing the rifle without even thinking about it. Someone’s coming. The sound of heavy hoofbeats grew closer and closer, reaffirming the suspicion. Without thinking about it you throw the gun over your shoulder and run to the cover of some boulders behind your camp, crouching down low in the shadows as you wait for the bounty hunter to arrive.
Your hand swiftly moves to your holster, pulling out a cattleman, also having belonged to your husband not too long ago.
Soon enough, the suspected bounty hunter pulls his horse to a stop, a Tennesse Walker with a pretty brown and white coat. His rider slides off as he comes to a stop, and your eyes stay trained on the man as he enters your campground, his eyes taking note of your horse and belongings all left behind beneath the canvas of your tent.
You move quickly and quietly then, keeping your footsteps quiet as you round behind him. He was crouched down, rummaging through your belongings. Anger flared inside of you - trying to turn you into the law was one thing, but going through a lady’s things while she’s not home? That was just disrespectful.
As you near, he held something in his hand that made your heart clench, making it almost painful to breathe as you raise the pistol in your hand, cocking it behind his head.
“Drop it.”

Valentine was a dump, as Arthur had come to work out. Instinctively, his nose scrunches up at the smell of livestock and manure, although he was sure the smell was getting to the wagonful of girls behind him more than it was getting to him.
“Could pick yourself up some bounties in there Arthur.” Uncle nudges him, pointing toward the local jailhouse. Posters were lining the walls but he shakes his head and looks away.
“Got better things to do then go on wild goose hunts.” Arthur responds, his shoulders and jaw tight from holding onto all of the tension of the past couple of weeks.
As the wagon pulls to a stop, the girls filter out, all smiling and laughing and discussing what trouble they could get into in the town. It made Arthur chuckle, their eagerness to go and charm some poor fool into handing over his wallet.
The ground beneath his boots is soft and muddy, but he walks through it without complaint, trailing behind uncle as he complains about one thing or another. The general store sits in front of them, a small building about as run down as the rest of Valentine.
The wooden boards of the structure are weathered and rotting, and Arthur tips his hat at the two men who sit in front of it, lazily smoking their cigarettes.
“You need anything Arthur?” Uncle asks as the two men stepped inside, offering tight smiles to the man behind the counter.
“A drink, if I’m supposed to be putting up with you all day.” Arthur grumbles, walking over the rotting floorboards towards a shelf, with fine whiskeys and bourbons on display.
He reaches for a cheaper bottle of whiskey, taking it to the counter and digging through his pocket for a money clip.
He’s low on cash - the gang's money, along with most of his own, had been left stashed in Blackwater, and there’s no hope of retrieving it any time soon.
While he was a halfwit, Uncle hadn’t had a bad idea when he’d pointed out the bounties to Arthur.
“Hey Uncle,” Arthur calls across the store to him after tucking the whiskey away safely in his satchel. “Keep the girls outta trouble, I’m gonna go have a look at the bounty posters.”
“Thought you said they were ‘wild goose hunts’.” Uncle laughs, mocking his earlier words in his best impression of Arthur.
“Shut up old man.”
He exits the store and unhitches his horse - a Tennesse Walker he’d stolen from some O’driscoll. He wasn’t Boadicea, but he was doing the job for now.
The thought of Arthur’s former horse bought a low, sinking feeling to his gut. There were few things he got to call his own and care about in his dying way of life, but that horse had been one of them. Everything he did, and all the women he saw come and go- Mary, Eliza, she was there with him through it all.
Pulling up in front of the Sheriff's office, he hitches the unnamed horse. At this rate, it’s name was gonna end up being ‘Horse’ if he didn’t think of something better soon.
As he approaches the door, yelling can be heard from inside.
“C’mon! Just head up there and try again, would ya?” A man’s voice asks, almost begging.
“You outta your mind sheriff? Four of us went up there to drag her in and I’m the only one who came back! I don’t care how much your payin’, find someone else to bring the crazy bitch in.”
The second man burst through the door, almost running into Arthur before shooting one last dirty look at the sheriff and walking away.
The sheriff had his hand pinching the bridge of his nose, sighing and muttering something incoherent under his breath, but when he notices Arthur approaching he perks up, a bright, fake smile overtaking his features.
“You a bounty hunter boy?” The sheriff asks, standing up to greet him.
“I can be.” Arthur shrugs. “For the right price.”
“Two hundred dollars sound like a good enough price for you?”
A low whistle left Arthur’s mouth. “Two hundred? You gotta damn serial killer you want me to bring in or somethin’?”
“She may as well be. Nasty woman, that one is. Her poster’s over there on the wall. Y/n Cole.” He points in the direction of a cork board, and sure enough a poster is pinned to it.
“Wanted dead or alive?” Arthur asks, pulling it down to get a better look. A photo of a well put together woman was printed on it, beneath the large sum of money. She was wearing a fine dress, decorated with lace and frills, her neck adorned with an expensive looking pendant, and some silver earrings dangled from her ears. Her hair was curled and pinned back into an impressive up-do, and she looked more like the wife of a mayor than she did a serial murderer. “She don’t look very dangerous.”
“That’s what all the other’s said.” The sheriff sighs dejectedly. “Don’t put anythin’ past her though, she’s been guttin’ the boys like pigs up there. Crazy bitch.” The last part was muttered under his breath, and Arthur was unsure of whether or not he was meant to hear it.
“What’d she do in the first place?”
The sheriff lets out a humorless laugh. “Killed her husband and her son. Shot them both in cold blood. When the in-laws confronted her, she shot them too. She’s been hiding up in the Grizzlies for boutta month or so now, and any man who goes up there lookin’ for her doesn’t come back.”
“Sounds like quite the risk you got me takin’ than sheriff.”
“Pretty little wad of cash will be waitin’ back here for you if you do it though. Shoot her, stab her, tie her up and drag her back here kickin’ and screamin’, I don’t care how you do it, just bring us that Mrs. Cole and we’ll pay for your troubles.” The sheriff shrugs with a sly smile.
Arthur mulls it over for a minute, studying your portrait. You were a pretty woman, he realized, put together and wealthy too, by the looks of it, how hard could it be? The reward was highly encouraging too, two hundred dollars would make quite the difference for the camp, and it would make Dutch pretty happy too.
“Alright.” Arthur mumbled, tucking the poster into his satchel. “You said she was in the Grizzlies?”
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
“Told you to drop that, Mister.” You reiterate your words, pressing the cold barrel of your pistol against the back of the man's head. He drops the photograph, and his hands come up in surrender as you use your free hand to reach into his holster and pull out his own gun, tossing it away into the snow.
Despite the darkness, you train your eyes and ears into the surrounding forest, listening out for any other presence. No one else had ridden up with the man, but none of the other bounty hunters had come alone so far.
“Where are your friends?” You ask, still scanning the area in search of other men. Your heart pounds heavily in your chest - he seemed far too relaxed for a man with a gun to his head. Something had to be wrong.
“Came alone.” He mutters, before letting out a grunt as the heel of your boot came into contact with the middle of his back, harshly. He’s a strong man, but the kick takes him by surprise and he tumbles forward, landing face first in the snow, your gun never leaving the back of his head.
“Bullshit.” You hiss, landing another harsh kick to his side. “If you came alone then you’re an idiot.”
“I am an idiot, lady!” He protests, hand coming to clutch the side that had just met the end of your boot. “Now stop kickin’ me!”
You still, listening out for any sign of company, but you’re only met with the sound of insects and the crackling of your campfire. Your horse, Shergar, lets out a short whinny, pawing at the ground and clearly annoyed by the strangers presence - a mutual feeling.
“You’re really alone?” You ask, unable to stop the tone of confusion from seeping into your voice.
“Yes goddammit. Clearly a mistake on my part.” He sounds more inconvenienced by the situation than anything, like he was being pickpocketed rather than held at gunpoint.
“Clearly.” You agree with him, your voice quiet. “I gotta admit, I don’t really know what to do now.” You say to him, almost laughing. “Most the time, about five other men come runnin’ outta the bushes, guns ready and knives out. You really were stupid to come alone, y’know?”
“I realize that now.” He rolls his eyes, trying to find a way out of his situation. “Look, you can kill me if you want, but the only thing that’s gonna do is send more men up here on a witch hunt for you, and they won’t mind bringing your limp body back to Valentine.”
“None of the others have managed to so far.” You shrug. “Don’t see why I shouldn’t leave you here with a bullet and keep runnin’.”
“Cause your luck is gonna run out soon, lady.” He points out. “That or you can let me bring you in while you're still breathin’.”
“Bring me in alive today so I can swing tomorrow?” You ask with a humorless chuckle. “I don’t think so.”
“You really are a piece of work, huh?” The man asks, his blue eyes shining with something unreadable.
Before you can respond to him, he flips you over, diving for you and knocking you into the snow. The ice burns your face as you writhe and struggle beneath him until he has you where he wants you. He has you on your stomach, his knee pressing into your back to hold you still as his hands fight against your own to wrestle the gun out of your grip.
“Hey!” You yell out as he manages to wrangle it away from you, placing it into his holster to replace his own gun that you had thrown into the snow. Your hands blindly dart out behind you, trying to reach for him but he keeps his strong hold on you, and one of his large hands comes up to catch your wrists together and pin them on the snow in front of you. “Get off of me!”
“I didn’t like laying in the snow either lady, suck it up!” He retorts as he digs through his satchel for something with his free hand, and you feel your heart drop as he begins looping rope over your wrists, tying your hands together before getting to work on your feet.
Before he can start, your legs come upwards, and your feet come into contact with the man’s head, knocking his hat into the snow and eliciting a yelp from his mouth.
“You really are a crazy bitch.” He yells at you as you roll over onto your back, grinning up at him with a dangerous glint in your eye.
“And you’re a damn idiot like the rest of ‘em!” You shout back, spit flying from your mouth as you let out, perhaps the most ill-time laugh in history.
You aren’t quite sure why you’re laughing, maybe from anger or sadness, or from the dread of the gallows that were waiting for you, but you laugh, your head tilts back to face the night sky where the moon sits and watches you from her pedestal.
Your laugh soon turns into a choked sob though as you bite your lip and shake your head. “Do you feel big and tough, huh? Sending an innocent woman to her death?”
“You ain’t innocent.” The man shakes his head, spitting a bit of blood from his mouth. It taints the snow with its crimson color, ruining the innocence of the white sheet. “You killed your son Mrs. Cole. Did you feel big and tough while you shot your own baby? Huh?”
The world around you stops for a minute as anger clouds your mind, and you grind your teeth together so hard you’re surprised they don’t break.
“I have killed many people, but my son was not one of them.” You spit at the man through your clenched jaw. “You don’t know what the hell you’re on about, bounty hunter.”
“All I know, is that they’re gonna give me two hundred dollars for bringin’ you in. Innocent or not.”
“I’ll double it!” You say, not even thinking about the repercussions of your words as the reality of your situation dawns on you. This man holds your life in his palm - he chooses whether you live or die right now, and for the first time since you’ve been hiding out here, you’re powerless and at the mercy of a bounty hunter. “I’ll double what they pay you to let me go.”
He stops fussing with the rope at your legs at that, narrowing his eyes as he looks at you. Without his hat on, you can clearly see his face now. He looks to be mid-thirties, although he’s aged from the sun and the stress of his life, you’re assuming. His eyes are hooded, the bright blue color peeking out from beneath his strong brow bone. A couple days worth of a beard has grown along his jaw, enough to hide his lower face but not enough to hide the sharp jawline, or the scar on his chin.
“What did you say?” He asks quietly.
“I said, I’ll pay you double.” You reaffirm, your eyes pleading as you meet his own. The ice blue color gives away no indication as to what’s going through his mind, and in that moment you gather he’d be a great poker player.
“You’re gonna pay me, four hundred dollars, if I let you go?” He asks incredulously.
Now that he says it out loud, you realize how impossible your promise is, but nonetheless it looks like your only chance of surviving him.
“Yes.” You nod with a thick swallow. “Four hundred dollars.”
He lets out a low whistle, thinking about it. “That’s a lot of money.”
“I am innocent. And I’ll pay you to prove it.”
“And how can I be so sure, Mrs. Cole, that you’ll actually pay me. That you won’t run off the second I cut these ropes.”
“I’ll stay with you. Pay you back as I make the money.” You say, all but begging the man who appears to be considering your offer. “Most bounty hunters are travelers. I’m guessing you’ve got a camp set up somewhere too that you’re livin’ out of.”
“I might.” He shrugs. “But then what? I take you and your promises back to my camp, and then you run off in the middle of the night? You can’t be trusted. You’re a murderer.”
You weigh out your options, wondering what you could do to convince him. You had nothing of value on you, nothing of monetary value at least. The only thing you could offer him as collateral was something you would rather die than part with, but at this point, you dying was seeming more and more likely.
“Untie me.” You say softly, holding your hands out towards the man. “Untie me and I’ll give you some collateral.”
He considers it for a moment, eyeing you carefully, like he was trying to pick up on a lie or trick, but eventually he pulls a knife out of his belt and cuts the rope from your hands. “Don’t make me chase after you.” He warns as you stand on shaky legs and make your way to your bedroll where the man had been digging around earlier.
You drop to your knees, quickly finding what you were after, laying right where he had dropped it. A photograph of your son, when he was only two years old, held up high in your arms as you planted a kiss on the side of his cheek. A wide smile was covering his features, and in the photo your eyes are crinkling with a happiness they haven’t known in a long time.
“Here.” You begrudgingly hand him the photo. “It’s the only photo I have of me and my son. It’s the most important thing in the world to me. I get that back when you get your money. And if I run, I’m leavin’ that behind as well.” Your words are soft, almost defeated as he gently takes the photo from you.
His brows are furrowed as he inspects it, running his thumb along where you stand in it. After a moment, he must deem it worthy because he tucks it away safely into a pocket on the inside of his jacket.
“Grab your things Mrs. Cole.” He says softly, making his way over to his discarded hat and placing it atop his head. “You’re comin’ back to camp.”
════ ⋆★⋆ ════
“You never told me your name.” You point out as the two of you amble side by side, Shergar traveling through the mountain ranges with ease after having spent so long up here with you. The bounty hunter's horse, on the other hand, was skittish, hyper-aware of his surroundings and the cliff edges that surrounded him. A couple times his foot had slipped and a sharp whinny had escaped him, his head throwing back high in the air with the whites of his eyes showing, clearly unnerved this far up in the mountains.
It wasn’t just a fear of falling though, occasionally a wolf howl or a roar from a bear could be heard, causing Shergar to prick his ears nervously towards the sound and add a slight spring to his step, eager to escape the predators.
“Arthur.” The man grumbled, blowing his breath into his hands and rubbing them together to warm them up. “Arthur Morgan.”
“Arthur Morgan.” You tested his name on your tongue, the name slipping out easily.
“And I know your name, Mrs. Cole.”
You shook your head. “That’s my married name. I have no business using it anymore.”
“So what do you want me to call you then?”
You told him your name, your real name, from before you made the terrible mistake of marrying Evan, and he repeated it with a small nod, as you had done with his own earlier.
The sun was up now, beating down on you harshly but still not enough to melt the ice that ran cold through your veins. You had grown used to the freezing temperatures after spending so much time up here, but you could tell Arthur wasn’t enjoying himself at all.
His blue coat was wrapped around himself tightly, the collar brought up to protect his neck from the biting winds.
“You couldn’t have picked a warmer spot to hide out?”
“Not many people wanna come up here unless they have to. Figured it was safer for me than some place down there.”
“Suppose.” He hummed. “You would’ve been up there during that god awful storm then?”
You snorted. “Yep. Though that was the end of it for me. I could barely see three feet ahead of me let alone find or cook food. That and the fact that I probably got hypothermia.”
“Yeah it was like that for us too.” Arthur said solemnly. “We were camped out by Colton for a week or so, me and the rest of my…” he trailed off. “Family.”
“Not a nice place.” You offered. “Hell were you doin’ up there with your family anyways?”
“We’ve both got our secrets.” Arthur shrugged, and you gathered that you wouldn’t get anything more out of him.
“I suppose.” You agreed.
“I mean, I’ve got my secrets.” Arthur corrected himself. “Your crimes are plastered all over the state.”
“I didn’t kill my son.” You said harshly.
“What about your husband? And his family, huh? Suppose you didn’t kill them either.”
“Like you said, Mr Morgan. We’ve both got our secrets.”
The ride continued in silence, a tense air settling over the pair of you as the snow gradually melted away. The mountains grew smaller and smaller behind you, and the air grew warmer. Birds sang and deer hopped about, taking off as you and Arthur trotted beside one another along a makeshift dirt road.
You crossed a shallow point of a river, the water coming up and splashing against your legs and tickling the underside of Shergar’s belly. It washed away the mud that had been caked against his hide from weeks in the mountains, where the only creeks and rivers were frozen or too cold and dangerous to enter.
“Nearly here.” Arthur’s low drawl broke you from your thoughts as he steered off of the road onto a worn trail through the grass. It led through forest for a few yards until you spotted a clearing up ahead, where wagons and tents were set up like a miniature village.
You could hear voices, men and women, even a child, all talking and laughing with one another.
He pulls to a stop before you completely leave the safety and privacy of the woods, a somewhat concerned gaze on his face. His eyes are narrowed and you can see he’s thinking hard about something with his parted lips, his tongue coming out to dart them with moisture momentarily.
“Y’know how we mentioned those secrets that you and me both got?” He asks, turning to look at you and you narrow your eyes.
“Yeah. Why?” Worry seeped into your tone at his own. For a man so sure of himself, he almost seemed hesitant to bring you into the camp.
“This- This family of mine ain’t the best, ok?” He started, stumbling over his words a little. “You owe me four hundred dollars, but that means you also owe Dutch Van Der Linde.”
Your eyes widened. You’d heard that name more and more frequently in your travels lately, and not for anything good.If you could remember correctly, him and his gang were wanted dead or alive for some ferry robbery gone wrong down in Blackwater. Come to think, you’d also heard Arthur’s name thrown around a lot.
“You- You’re in the damn Van Der Linde gang?” You asked, your tone growing in pitch as your arm comes out to slap his bicep.
“Hey, what-”
“You murder and rob your way across the whole country, you’re wanted dead or alive and yet you come here and you judge me for my crimes? Crimes I didn’t even commit!”
At your voice, heads turn in your direction, curious gazes from the women, and bloodthirsty, threatening looks from the men. From behind the trees they still can’t quite see you properly, something Arthur is thankful for as he slaps a hand across your mouth, your hot breath escaping your nose and fanning across his fingers as he shoots you a warning glance.
“Keep your damn mouth shut.” He warns with a low voice, his eyes shooting back to the camp where everyone seems to have gone back to their business.
When he’s sure you’ll stay quiet, he removes his hand from your soft skin, his mouth opening and shutting while he tries to find the right words.
“Look, I’m not gonna take you to Valentine, and neither will Dutch when he hears about our agreement.” Arthur says pointedly. “But there are other men in this camp, who will jump at the chance to hand you over for two hundred dollars, so you keep your mouth shut, ok?”
“Ok.” You nod, feeling a growing pit in your stomach. Suddenly, you were unsure of whether or not coming here was truly the best idea. Maybe you had been safer in the Grizzlies. Maybe you should have taken your chance to run, leaving your treasured memory behind in Arthurs pocket.
As if he could read your thoughts he sighed, hanging his head and pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Look, I’m gonna keep you safe here, ok?” He promises, and you can see in his eyes that he truly means it, although you know that to him, it’s nothing more than keeping the promise of four hundred dollars safe. “But not even I am gonna be able to stop some of these men when they learn the truth ‘bout you.”
“What are we gonna tell ‘em then?” You asked, throwing a worried glance at the camp. “They’re gonna wanna know who I am and what I’m doin’ here with you, won’t they?”
“Yeah they will.” A frown overtook his features as he continued to think. “Alright, we’ll tell ‘em your name is Miss Flinders, from Strawberry. Your daddy just got eaten by a bear or somethin’.”
“A bear?” You ask incredulously, one eyebrow raised. “If my daddy managed to get eaten by a bear, he might just be more of an idiot than you.”
“You got somethin’ better?” Arthur asks, a little offended that you hadn’t liked his suggestion.
“Yeah, I do.” You roll your eyes. “Miss Flinders from Strawberry was running away with her fiance, planning to elope. He took her money and left her stranded. You found her in the hotel there, with nothing left but her horse. Her family won’t take her back, and she’s got nowhere else to go.”
“I personally like the bear, but whatever works for you, Miss Flinders.” Arthur says in a mocking tone.
“We ain’t doin’ the bear.” You deadpan.
“Fine.” The outlaw relents. “But I found Miss Flinders like a drunken harlot begging for money on the streets. I was like her knight in shining armor, offering her a bed and some warm food.”
“Yeah you’re a real gentleman, Mr Morgan.” You draw out his name sarcastically.
“Don’t push me girl.” He warns. His voice had a way of sounding more dangerous than the growl of a wolf, you had come to notice in the short time you’d spent with him, and for all of your confidence you couldn’t deny the effect it had on you, leaving you swallowing thickly from his threat.
When he’s satisfied with your reaction, he gathers up his reins and spurs the Tenesse Walker forward, leaving you to trail behind.
“Uncle Arthur!” A young boy's voice is the first thing you hear when you emerge from the clearing, hiding in the shadow of the man in question.
“Jack!” It’s quickly followed by a stern woman’s voice, and you catch a glimpse of her grabbing a hold of the boy's forearm, dragging him off in the direction of a campfire, a pot of something cooking over it.
“C’mon.” Arthur says to you, dismounting from his horse and waiting for you to do the same.
You can feel curious gazes meeting you as you walk through the camp, Arthur’s hand finding its way to the small of your back to guide you.
“Keep your head down.” He instructs, his tone low as you near a group of men.
“Brought a whore back Arthur?” One of them lets out a drunken yell and a laugh, and you can hear the others laughing and whooping.
“Shut your mouth Micah.” Arthurs all but growls back at him as you continue to walk through the camp.
Some women offer you odd glances, looks that hold curiosity and even jealousy to some degree as you’re guided to a wagon with a canvas awning. Beneath the awning is a cot and a few other assorted pieces of furniture, holding belongings you can only assume belong to Arthur.
“Just stay here and sit tight for a minute.” Arthur tells you when you reach his wagon, giving you a small push toward the cot that was set up there.
“Where are you goin’?” You ask, making no move to sit down. It felt wrong to intrude on his space like that, whether he’d given his permission or not.
“Gotta find Dutch.” He explains. “Tell him about this agreement of ours.”
“Wouldn’t it be best if I came with you then?” You frown a little, not liking the idea of the two dangerous men talking about you and your bounty while you weren’t there. On some level, you know you can trust Arthur to a degree - after all, he’d had the opportunity to hand you over for the money, and he hadn’t taken it, but you were still doubtful, especially if Dutch Van Der Linde was going to have some hand in your fate.
You’d heard of the notorious outlaw, even before you were on the run. Robbing, murdering, leaving a trail of death and destruction everywhere he and his gang went. And yet, when Arthur, his right hand man came to get you, you weren’t met with a cold, heartless man who wanted to trade you for money at the first chance you got. Instead, he was open to your suggestion, and accepted it, albeit begrudgingly.
Of course you still owed him money, and lots of it, but he knew that would take time, and he would need patience, but in the meantime you would still be provided with warmth, food and protection from other hunters, something you were beyond grateful for.
“No, just stay here a moment. It would be best if I spoke to him alone.” Arthur sighs, a hand running down his face, as though he were deep in thought. And you suppose he is, how is he supposed to explain to his boss that they had two hundred dollars sitting in their camp, just waiting to be collected on, but they weren’t going to touch it in hopes of it giving them four hundred? With no plan or promise as to how you were gonna get that money?
It makes you wonder on some level why he hadn’t just handed you in when he had the chance to. It would’ve been easier, surely, than going through the trouble of bringing you here and convincing Dutch to let you stay. Of course the promise of double your bounty had some role in it, but now that you knew of the gang, you were confused. They could’ve gotten that money easily if they kept up old habits, which you were sure they did.
Arthur leaves you then, leaving you to awkwardly take a seat on a cot you could only guess belonged to him.
You hate to be nosy, but you aren’t left with much else to do as the rest of the camp carries on its life around you, occasionally throwing you a curious look. Instead of staring back, you let yourself gaze around Arthur’s makeshift room. You take note of the photos he has sitting on a nightstand beside the bed, one of them being a portrait of a beautiful woman with dark hair, perfectly styled behind her. He also has an assortment of weapons lying around, from guns to knives to ammunition. It makes you wonder what sort of business the gang has been getting up to since disappearing from Blackwater, but you figure it’s nothing good.
There’s a large tent set up in the middle of the camp, and you can see the familiar figure of Arthur talking to another man, an imposing looking man who you can only guess to be Dutch Van Der Linde. He’s smoking a cigar, and his face is set into a deep frown as Arthur speaks to him. You watch them with curiosity. Arthur has taken his hat off now, revealing his sandy brown hair that could probably do with a trim, and you watch as he runs a large hand through it, touselling the once smoothed strands.
With your eyes stuck on Arthur, you don’t notice as Dutch turns his head to set his gaze upon you, not until Arthur follows where he’s looking and then you’re quick to divert your eyes from the two men to the sight of some birds beyond them, nesting far up in the trees. Your heart pounds against your chest, trying desperately to leap out as Arthur places the old hat back on his head and makes his way across the camp to you.
Was he going to tell you that you were welcome to stay? Was he going to tell you to pack your things and leave? Was he going to tie your hands together and haul you all the way to Valentine to hand you over for the money? Possibilities run through your mind like a horse running from a wolf as Arthur approaches, and you can see Dutch in your peripheral vision watching the two of you like a hawk.
“You can stay.” Arthur nods his head at you. “Dutch is ok with it, but he wants to speak with you when he has a chance. Make sure he can trust you and all that.”
“I-” your throat runs dry at his words. You weren’t sure if it was from relief of having a place to stay, or fear of having to speak to Dutch Van Der Linde. “Thank you.” You settle on saying, your lips pursed together as your eyes meet Dutch’s from across the camp.
“It ain’t a problem.” Arthur says as he begins moving around his space and picking up several items you couldn’t quite make out. “You can handle yourself and a gun well, Dutch thinks you’ll be good to have around, once we know we can trust you. Until then though-” Arthur cuts himself off as he throws a handful of things towards you, “-you’re my responsibility.”
You furrow your brows and begin to sort through the things he threw at you, finding a bar of soap, some rags, and an old blanket you could use as a towel.
“Is this your way of telling me I stink?” You ask with a small chuckle as you stand up, cocking your head to the side to gaze at the man expectantly.
“You don’t stink, you just look like you could…” He trails off, thinking of a nice way to phrase his next words. “Freshen up.” He settles on. “And maybe run a comb through your hair as well.” He mutters, one of his hands absentmindedly reaching up to brush against your knots.
“Hey!” You say, a little offended, and you lightly slap his hand away. Despite your show though, you don’t protest when he adds a hair brush to the pile of items he’d handed to you.
“You got clean clothes on your horse?” He asks, ignoring the look you tossed his direction.
“What’s wrong with the clothes I got on?” You ask him, furrowing your brows.
“They’re still wet with snow.” Arthur says, like it should be obvious. “But if you wanna sleep damp, that’s your choice.”
Now that he’s mentioned it, you do still feel the dampness of the snow on your clothes, sticking to your skin uncomfortably. It was normal in the Grizzlies - there hadn’t really been any escaping it, but now you were dry, and much warmer than you had been in the mountains, and the thought of dry clothes that would stay dry made your stomach flip with excitement.
“Yeah, I got clothes on Shergar.” You answer him as the two of you make your way to where the horses are hitched.
“Kinda name is that?” Arthur asked, furrowing his brows as the two of you unhitched and mounted your horses.
“I dunno.” You shrugged. “It was his name when I got him, and I liked it.”
“Fair enough.” The man agrees with you, tugging on the reins of the Walker beneath him before gently spurring him forwards.
“Where are we headed anyways?” You ask Arthur, following him on the Andalusian, your hand reaching down to scratch at his neck with your nails.
“More private area of the river.” Arthur explains as the two of you trot out of the forest and onto the worn down dirt path. “You can clean yourself up a bit, and I’ll make sure no one else comes by.”
“So when Dutch said I was your responsibility, he just meant you were becoming my own personal little bodyguard?” You joke, your lips curling up into a smile as you turn your head to meet Arthurs gaze. You can tell he doesn’t want to smile but he does, shaking his head as the two of you trot.
“You’re worth four hundred dollars darlin’.” He explains to you, that low drawl sounding both threatening and alluring at the same time. “Of course you’re gonna have someone followin’ after you.”
The truth behind his statement stung a little. At the end of the day, these people could feed you, give you a place to stay, and keep you safe, but they weren’t doing it for you . They were doing it for your worth. After so long of being by yourself though, their motives didn’t matter to you. As long as you were safe and warm.
“You know I ain’t gonna run off.” You say to him after a minute of tense silence.
“How can we know you won’t?” Arthur asks incredulously.
“You think I’m gonna leave a bed, warmth, and a steady supply of food? Or that picture you’ve got of mine?” Your heart aches a little as you think back to the photo you had given Arthur of yourself and your son.
Subconsciously Arthur reaches his hand up towards his pocket, brushing his fingers over it as though he was making sure the picture was still there. You note that when you’d given it to him, he’d placed it in his coat pocket, and now as he rode beside you in nothing but his work pants and black button-up, he still had it on him.
The thought of him moving it onto his person made you worry a little less - at least you knew it would be kept safe, but still the fact that he held your most prized possession worried you.
“We’re here.” Arthur’s voice cuts you off, and he pulls his Walker to a stop as you near a concealed run off of the river. “Go clean yourself up.”
He turns the horse so that his back is to the river, and wordlessly you make your way towards it, shutting your eyes a little as the setting sun reflects off of the water.
For about the first time in a month or so - you feel safe . You have food and water waiting back at camp for you, and one of the most dangerous men in the country is currently keeping watch as you bathe, which in itself is a luxury you hadn’t been able to have in some time.
Perhaps this is a turning point for you, a chance to turn around the pitiful life you’re leading so far and make it into something worth so much more than just surviving to see the sun rise tomorrow. Perhaps you will be given your chance to prove your innocence, and tell the story of a woman who wanted nothing more than to avenge her son and was sentenced to death over it.
This is your second chance at life, with Arthur Morgan watching over your back to make sure it isn’t taken from you too soon.
~~~
Any feedback or comments are MORE than welcome, and would help me a great deal with motivation to not completely abandon this, however if you're more of a sit back and enjoy the show kinda reader, I completely understand! I am too on some level.
Anyways, I plan on following the order of the missions, obviously starting with Chapter Two at Horseshoe Overlook, and then just moving chronologically and maybe twisting a mission here or there. I also have a few plans on things to add in because why would I ever make life easy for my characters???
Lots of love <3
🎵 + skye & aaron
tennesse orange / megan moroney
i met somebody and he's got blue eyes, he opens the door and he don't make me cry. he ain't from where we're from but he feels like home.
oh i've loved this song for them for a while now! i can visualize them falling in love when i listen to this song, even imagining them doing simple coupely things like going to sporting events and enjoying each other's company. but bigger picture skye comes from a traditional family and a close-knit community and she was formerly committed and has three children by the time that she gets acquainted with aaron i guess there probably was this expectation that if she did find someone it would be someone from church or i don't know someone more local so i can so clearly see this confessional delivered to kyleigh like hey i met this guy i know it's kind of unexpected because i do have three babies and no he's not from around here but he's great and he makes me really happy. and the emphasis on the sports team in the lyrics just being more about the betrayal of her former life and this new beginning for her. i see them having a really simple and organic love and i think this song encapsulates that from like their very first date. i think it's sweet and it makes me smile
hey pretty girl / kip moore
life's a long and winding ride, better have the right one by your side. and happiness don't drag it's feet, time moves faster than you think ... hey pretty girl, when i see the light and it's my time to go, i'm gonna thank the lord for a real good life, a pretty little girl and a beautiful wife.
aaron is in line at the nearest corner store getting some chewing tobacco as i type. i know it's very country and that's not necessarily him. but this is the lens from which i visualize skye's entire being. maybe she even gets him to lean into pop country. who knows. i like this song for them because as i've already suggested i imagine them to have a really organic and natural love and you've described it as being really fulfilling for aaron. they build a really beautiful life together and expand skye's already gorgeous lineage by like one billion beautiful blonde daughters
I love tennesse orange sm
McLaren Orange
*based off the song “tennessee orange” by megan moroney*
lando norris x fem!reader
warnings: fluff
summary: y/n was raised in a ferrari family, but a special driver in the papaya car gets her to wear the mclaren orange.
I felt as if I was going to throw up. My hand hovered over my mothers contact, shaking from the knots in my stomach. I knew I shouldn't be nervous, but knowing the way my family is I couldn't help it. Finally after convincing myself to tap the icon, my phone began to ring. The ring went on an awful long time, making me feel even more terrified.
"Hi Mama," I say into the phone once she picked up.
"Hey darling," Her sweet voice echos into my ear. How am I supposed to tell her this?
"I've got some news for you," My voice cracks.
"Is everything alright? You're not in trouble are you?" Her tone becomes serious, I could tell she had her eyebrow raised looking towards my father.
"I'm not in trouble, Mama" I laugh slightly, "But, don't tell dad about this, please."
There was silence on the other side of the phone. I knew she was debating listening to my request, but also on not. I heard her shuffle around a bit. Maybe she headed into a different room for privacy.
"I know you guys raised me to know right from wrong, and I know you're thinking I did something wrong, but don't worry everything is okay." I sigh, "It's just, I've never really felt this way. I don't know where to start."
"You can tell me anything, sweetheart." She reassures me, my heartbeat already calming down.
"I met this guy," I mentally smack my head in embarrassment.
"Oh, I was expecting something totally different." She laughs loudly.
"He's got these gorgeous blue eyes." I feel my cheeks grow warm just thinking about the way his eyes look into mine. "He even opens the door for me. I don't think he's made me cry once."
I had met Lando after the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. A couple of my friends and I decided to go out for the night, we needed some freedom. Just that morning we were all wearing our red gear, cheering for the Ferrari's as they raced. Lando just happened to be at the club we decided to go to. He was with a couple of his friends, hanging around the dj booth in the back. I must have felt risky that day because I walked up to him, congratulating him on his race. Yes, I congratulated the enemy. We ended up talking a little longer. A little longer was the rest of the night.
"He's not from where we're from." I explained, "But, he feels like home somehow."
"Where's he from?" She qustions.
"The United Kingdom, Bristol actually." I tell her.
"He sounds like a very lovely guy," She compliments him. This makes my heart warm. Hopefully the rest of the story wont make her too upset.
"I've done things I've never done before with him, Mama." She could probably hear my wide smile through the phone. "He took me to this beautiful restaurant the other night. Oh, and we went cliff diving too!"
Talking about just a few of the adventures we had been on together already made my stomach burst with butterflies. Thinking back to when our hands were holding tight to each other as we jumped off the tall cliff, waiting for our fall to be caught by the blue water. When he gave me his jacket after our dinner because it was raining.
"There is one thing though," I hesitate.
"What is it?"
"Mama, he's a driver." I try to lead up to the fact that he's a big racing star, but not for our big team.
"He's a driver? Like a racer?" Her voice fills with excitement. "Are you dating Charles Leclerc?"
"No Mama, not him." I laugh, "He's not on Ferrari."
Yet again there was a silence on the other end of the phone.
"Mama, he drives for McLaren." I whisper, a weight being lifted off my shoulders as I did so. "Lando Norris."
I heard the door open from the phone, she was walking up to my father.
"He took me to Spain with him, that's why I was gone for a little while. He gave me the hat he had sitting on his dash when we got to the airport." I try to distract her from telling any information to my father. As long as he's a good guy why should it matter? "Mama, can you forgive me? Don't tell dad, please. I like him a lot."
"Honey, I'm not mad at you. I can't change the fact you like this boy. As long as he doesn't make you forget you look better in red." She sighs, the phone now on speaker mode.
"I don't know, his smile makes me forget sometimes." I fiddle with the rings on my finger.
"Hi daddy," I say quietly, knowing hes listening into the conversation. "I'm sorry, I couldn't help it."
"Your mother and I are so happy for you, Y/n. I could never be mad at you for chasing your heart."
"I still am rooting for Ferrari, don't worry." I laugh, feeling relieved by their acceptance. "But if you every see me wearing McLaren. Just know I'm wearing the orange for him."
Masterlist: Glen Powell
This is the hub for all my works featuring Glen Powell. These are all stories inspired by his life and career. From behind-the-scenes glimpses of Hollywood to fictional takes on his charm and charisma, you'll find everything centered around the man himself right here.
Explore the stories below, and let me know your favorites! As always, thank you for reading and supporting my work.💫 (UPDATED 12.1.24)
GLEN POWELL (HIMSELF)
**DRABBLES (Under 1k words)**
Welcome Back Kisses (Glen x Reader)
Glen's been gone for almost three months filming his latest project, but he's home now, and seeing you is the first thing on his to-do list.
Cute When You're Jealous (Glen x Reader)
Glen misses out on an event the two of you had planned to go to together. So a friend takes you instead, but it leaves Glen feeling a little jealous.
**ONE-SHOTS**
More Than a Game (Glen x Reader)
When you join Glen Powell for a night under the bright Texas stadium lights, you expect an evening of football and fun—but what you don’t expect is the sting of an offhand comment that shakes your confidence. As Glen’s world of fans and flashing cameras surrounds you, he’s quick to remind you of where you stand: by his side, as the one who holds his heart. With every protective gesture, from offering you his jacket to placing his prized Stetson on your head, Glen shows the world that you’re not just another face in the crowd—you’re someone special. FLUFF.
Texas Orange (Glen x Reader)
Heavily based on the song "Tennesse Orange" by Megan Moroney. You're in the early stages of your relationship with Glen and he takes you to a Texas football game with him. FLUFF.
Between Sets and Scenes (Glen x Reader)
As a dedicated personal trainer in Washington D.C., you've worked with high-profile clients before, but when actor Glen Powell steps into your gym, life takes an unexpected turn. What starts as a simple fitness transformation for Glen quickly evolves into something more when the lines between professionalism and attraction begin to blur. A chance encounter outside the gym leads to late-night conversations, unexpected connections, and the realization that sometimes the best chemistry happens off-screen. But with Glen's rising star and your grounded life, can you keep things casual, or is something deeper already taking shape? FLUFF.
**SERIES**
In the Wings (Glen x Reader)
When you're offered the chance to work as a hair and makeup artist on Top Gun 3, it feels like a dream come true. Leaving behind your routine for a Hollywood blockbuster, you arrive on set with high hopes but little expectation of the whirlwind to come. That all changes the day you meet Glen Powell—charming, grounded, and quick to make an impression. As your professional relationship grows, so does a spark between you, but you're still keeping things strictly work. For now, the only thing you're certain of is that this job will be like no other. FLUFF
Winter is Peppermint While Autumn is Cinnamon
Prompt: Bonfire for @tonystarkbingo June Flash Bingo (🎡)
Summary: The comparison of winter to autumn. Part 1/2 of seasons comparison.
A/N: Some cold winter and some romantic autumn. Also, I currently have an obsession with everyone calling everyone Bub so be prepared for that. Also Autumn = Fall for those who decide to change the names of the seasons.
Also can be read on Ao3
Winter was always freezing to Peter ever since that stupid (it wasn’t really stupid, it was actually quite cool) spider bit him he hasn’t been able to thermogate. So in winter it 4 blankets at night and under amour on during the day acting as a full-body heater. The snows pretty though, he can give it that.
Now being winter holidays he’s off school preparing for Christmas with his large extended family (read: The Avengers) and his much smaller Parker-Stark family. Because now Peter Parker-Stark had a family to keep him warm in the winter.
On Christmas eve while everybody else enjoys the cold, outside weather Peter finds himself curled up on the couch.
He can’t even eat the peppermint that pops up everywhere anymore. He’s now allergic.
Tony sees him first, 3 blankets piled on top of him, the heater on full blast in the modern wood cabin that he gets to call his retirement home. “Pete, you okay bub?” The only sound that comes from the blanket pile is a small “hemp” which indicted to Tony that ‘no’ Peter is not ‘okay’.
“Your missing out on all the fun outside,” Tony should be good at persuading but Peter is too cold to even want to listen “it’s too cold outside.”
Sighing Tony nods understanding.
He comes to sit next to Peter putting an arm around him and Peter snuggles into the warmth that the older man brings with him. Turning on the TV the channel changes from the kid’s station that Morgan was watching that morning to a bonfire off the screen “it’s okay we can have our own bonfire inside.”
They can still hear everybody yelling outside but it all feels much better Tony just being here with one of his kids, the person that needs him the most in that one moment.
It’s autumn that Peter thrives in.
The orange and yellows of the leaves the excitement of being colder but not too cold that he’s frozen all the time. + Peter is a basic and so the fact that pumpkins are in season makes his mouth water at the taste of cinnamon.
Tony can deal with autumn.
He enjoys watching his ex-wife making pumpkin muffins and his kids playing in the leaves as if it’s snow. The thing he enjoys most is the essence. He doesn’t know why everybody is happier but everybody is and it’s great to be a part of it.
Morgan also loves the bonfires that Happy makes on weekends. When it’s late at night and all you want to do is sit under the night sky fire warming you up. May and Happy curl up to each other on a love seat. Harley flies in from Tennesse and everything is just great.
And cinnamon is everything. (Not the peppermint that Peter is now allergic to (thanks spider-bite). It’s sweet and hot chocolate becomes in season.
Winter Autumn is great.
“Can you grab me that-” Tony clicks his fingers at Harley only to watch his son smirk “the what old man?” “The cider, Harley, the cider.”
That’s the other thing you can’t forget cider.
Apple cider. The sweetness of drinking it after getting out the lake, a towel placed across shoulders. It’s warm and sitting by the bonfire only makes it all so much better for Peter.
“Harls come here,” “sorry dad, the boyfriends calling.” Peter Harley kiss under the falling leaves for the first time, if Peter told the truth that would be his favourite thing about autumn.
