This is probably the delusion of a content-starved fan but I have been thinking for a long time about how Kagami specifically compared the body of Mitsuba’s demon to the purgatory even though manifestations in general are flamey. I didn’t know if it was only for metaphoric purposes or if the purgatory actually exists in OnS but after this chapter (ch126) I feel like it would be nice if Mitsuba’s demon was actually connected to it. Plus her demon’s flames are blue, not only of a colour that is important in the OnS universe but blue flames are also really hot. Add on to that that Tenjiryū means “Heavenly-shaped dragon” so has a mention to “Heaven” and the shape of their arms are described with the kanji 鎌 (‘kama’) which means sickle/scythe, a weapon that holds strong death symbolism.
Ofc this is just a wish but considering how Kagami said he will soon write Mitsuba actively and how lore-heavy this OnS year is🥺…But nah, there is not much of a hint of Mitsuba being important anyways😭

Am I the only one who is so bloody damn curious about Mitsuba and Tenjiryū? We haven’t seen Tenjiryū, we don’t know the type of demon they are or why they wasn’t ‘sent’ to capture Mika with the others. Also, what curse is Mitsuba supposed to have from her family?
Ohhh, I hope Tenjiryū is very powerful and very important. We know really nothing about the demon! Ahhhhh! whyyyyyy!
I like Shinoa and all, but I’m kinda getting bored of her and her story. I want to learn more about Mitsuba now. I feel compared to the others, we don’t know nearly enough about her as we should do...

Honestly, the change in artstyle is so sad. A full coloured art of Shikama Dōji has been anticipated by the fandom for so long and when we finally get one his face just looks…off. It kinda kills my expectations because what about when we will finally have a Byakkomaru face reveal? Or when Tenjiryū’s real form reveal? It will probably be underwhelming…
I’m fine if the lineart and shading quality goes down due to overwork but I’m not happy to see how the facial structure changes too. At least his green eyes are still there (his eyes are one of my faves in OnS)😅
Okay but the change in artstyle of Seraph of the End really is heartbreaking though... :'( Will definitely miss the old artstyle with the beautiful designs and perfect strokes of every character and moment... ❤😭❤
Yuichiro is a beautiful character himself, handsome and pretty. Also, I find him quiet stylish and the 'cool guy' sorts during the first part of the story ✨ Hands inside his pocket and stuff. 😌💕
But NOW....
what happened to him 😭
May be it's mainly his hair but still :'(
I saw a comment somewhere legit saying that he's suffering from hair loss 😭 WHERE'S THE FLOOF
He's still being a sunshine though. ☀️✨💕

Finished product/size comparison of Tenjiryū. Besides some minor imperfections, I really love it. It's super light and the colors are exactly what I wanted. I am so excited to wear Mitsuba next month~!

Please ignore this post I am just creating a checklist for when Mitsuba will get screentime so I will know how many of the facts (including silly ones) I brought up these past years about her have been addressed:
☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️
Mitsuba’s demon debut (I hope it’s not another child-looking one…)
The mitsudomoe tattoo on her demon’s chest (does the tattoo imply the demon is Mitsuba’s or the Sangū clan’s possession? does Aoi’s demon have it too?)
Both fanbooks and the Bloody Blades game saying Mitsuba’s axe’s ability is to manifest an infinite number of demons (yet we only see her manifesting three at most so is she perhaps not using her cursed gear to its full potential or is it just Yamamoto not wanting to draw all that?)
Fanbook 8.5 stating there is no difference in strength between the demons of first to third rank (so Mitsuba’s demon shouldn’t be weaker than those of her squadmates)
What the hell was that time when some of her arm was sliced by Crowley, there was blood but then the next chapter she was surprised that there was no injury?
The similar names of Mitsuba and Aoi’s demons (note: Tenjiryū “Heaven-shaped dragon” and Chijiryū “Earth-shaped dragon”; are their demons perhaps related too? siblings? twins? halves of each other?)
Why is Mitsuba’s demon named after the sky and yet her manifestations come from the earth she cracks?
Why is Aoi’s cursed gear golden?
Why does the hilt of Aoi’s cursed gear have three-leaf clover symbol and drawings? (note: Mitsuba’s name means “three-leaf clover”)
Mitsuba backstory flashback chapter when?
The Sangū clan curse making all of its members blonde (note: the LN mentioned both hair colour-related curses of the Jūjō and Sangū clans but only the Jūjō’s backstory was explained)
Parents (were they good parents and why the hell did they appear out of nowhere?; judging by Mitsuba’s reaction to seeing them I feel like they were good…at least to her)
Did their parents name their daughters that way for a reason or was it just them being silly? (note: “Aoi” refers to a two-leafed plant while “Mitsuba” refers to a three-leafed plant yet they are the first and second daughters; is there perhaps another one?)
Why Mitsuba has such a bad relationship with Aoi?
Her feelings for Aoi
Did Kagami intentionally make Aoi start serve Kureto the same year Mitsuba was born? (Aoi was 7 at the time, the same age gap she has with Mitsuba, suggesting that Aoi was never around since Mitsu was born)
When did Mitsu join the army and how long did it take her to join the Vampire Extermination Unit?
Why did she join the army? (nepotism? forced to? had a desire to prove herself?; note: in one of the CD dramas Shinoa had to ask that question to her squad and Mitsuba was the only one who didn’t answer because she was too uncomfortable to say it)
How was her life with her previous squad?
How was her life after her squad died?
Why is she not loyal to the Hīragis?
When and under what circumstances did she meet Shinoa?
The weird stares she gives at Shinoa when she is with Yuu (I am placing my bets she is not jealous of Shinoa and rather she is just intrigued by her sudden emotional moments when she is with Yuu because the Shinoa she knows has always kept everyone at a distance…maybe she was also hurt that Shinoa appreciated more Yuu worrying for her in chapter 99 than Mitsuba worrying about her since Shinoa kinda half ignored her in chapter 86…also read a theory saying she fears Yuu and Shinoa getting together and leaving her behind just like Aoi did with Kureto)
Her feelings for Yuu (please don’t let her have an ‘officially confirmed’ crush on him)
Her feelings for Shinoa (note: in the fanbook 108 she said she worries for Shinoa the most and that Yuu comes second; it would be so good if she tried to get knock some sense into Shinoa for um…well, you know)
Her inferiority complex towards her squad
How she felt when abandoning the army
How she felt after failing to prevent Yuu from getting kidnapped
How she felt after being left alone when the war broke out
How she felt when she did was the only one of her squad to not contribute in the defeat of Shikama Dōji
If she is aware she is never contributing during conversations
Her view on the resurrection plan (is she actually going to resurrect her parents?)
Mitsuba’s desire
✔️: if the point is partially addressed
☑️: if fully addressed
✅: if one of the possibilities/theories mentioned becomes true
I hope that by the end of this year at least 2 of these points are addressed🤧 A lot of years ago Kagami said there is something awaiting Mitsuba and in the autograph session last Autumn he confirmed he has plans for her. So let me hope🥹…
#I will tick these as the months go by#but tbh even if she gets screentime I doubt some of these will be addressed#some are quite silly after all#I hope I am not missing anything#most hardcore *self-proclaimed* Mitsuba stan ever#come on Kagami you can do it#don’t ruin her for a man#or for ships in general#it would be kinda embarassing if she got ruined after all I’ve written#owari no seraph#seraph of the end#mitsuba sanguu#mitsuba sangu#mitsuba sangū#sangu mitsuba

I hate it when authors don’t give the mass. Give me the mass! I wanna know how heavy her weapon is >3< In kg if possible… (lbs confuse me)

A fanart for the forgotten human-demon pair of OnS :’) It took me almost a month to complete this because of uni, and the app slowing down all the time was progressively killing all my motivation to continue (and also because the design of this is more complicated than what I am used to). But I finally finished!😭

Two observations regarding Yoichi’s demon
I just discovered that, according to the 8.5 OnS Fanbook, Gekkōin’s manifestation form was based on the Phoenix. The symbol of the Phoenix can be interpreted differently because of the many cultures, religions and mythologies but two caught my attention:
- In Greece and Egypt the Phoenix is associated with the Sun God (and OnS thing) and it’s known to be bright coloured and have positive meanings like rebirth, wealth and fertility. However, Gekkōin is the total opposite (dark and creepy as a bird and hot asf in human form, and the meaning of his name “Moonlight Rhyme” is rather associated with the Moon) so could this mean that he has fallen once he became a demon?
- (The funny one) In Chinese Mythology, more specifically Feng shui, the Phoenix along with the Dragon are seen as Yin “wife” (Phoenix) and Yang “husband” (Dragon), the perfect couple, and the symbol of auspiciousness and everlasting love. Mitsuba’s demon is based on the Dragon (see here), which is traditionally male but the thing is that despite the Phoenix being usually represented as a single female entity, Kagami made Gekkōin male sooo…unless he makes Mitsuba’s demon female if he ever do decides to give her screentime…this would look very…gay😅

Next time Kagami wants to write a story with a plot irrelevant main deuteragonist with the screentime of a tree in the background he better not describe her demon like this cuz this is called baiting👆

I find it kinda cute that Tenjiryū has a three swirl symbol on the chest, a three point shaped cavity on the face and three horns considering Mitsuba’s name and surname both have the kanji for ‘three’ in them.
And the axe also has three metallic attachments:

Anyone else wondering how does this girl’s demon look like?
And I think my popcorn has gone bad...
But seriously it pisses me off that when she had a chapter dedicated to her (chapter 45 when she almost sacrificed herself to allow the others run away from Crowley and chapter 70 when Aoi confronted her) Yuu had to butt in with his ‘family’ bullshit and steal the spotlight away from her. I am so upset like...Kagami you might love Yuu or whatever but let other characters have their own development away from him...especially the girls🤦♀️
And for those who loooove long posts and are somehow interested on unpopular characters like me I’ve got some cheap observations, complaining and theorising...
She is so pretty I am crying
For those who don’t know or forgot about it (I cannot blame you though), the name of Sangū Mitsuba’s demon is Tenjiryū. Their name literally translates to ‘Heavenly-Shaped Dragon’ or ‘Heaven-Shaped Dragon’ and let me get straight to the point; guys it sounds more badass than any of the other demons’ names we have! I find curious the choice of “Heaven” though since it doesn’t fit a demon🤔 Moreover, the demon of Mitsuba’s older sister, Sangū Aoi, is called Chijiryū, which translates to ‘Earth-shaped Dragon’ and I find so intriguing that out of all the cursed gears that the Japanese Imperial Demon Army must have in their possession, Mitsuba somehow happened to be compatible with one bearing a similar name to her sister’s demon.
I cannot believe this demon is of a lower series. I mean, it’s HUGE. Befitting of a dragon😤 It’s definitely either the biggest weapon in the whole series or the second biggest. I don’t know about size since Mitsuba’s axe and Shinoa’s scythe are differently shaped but in terms of mass I think the axe is heavier because it looks more compact. Also, my respects for the designer because I have never seen such a uniquely shaped war axe👌
You cannot tell me that Shinoa’s huge scythe bears the first progenitor of the vampire race while Mitsuba’s huge battle axe bears a mediocre demon oh god...
When you have a look at both Tenjiryū and Gekkōin here it’s hard to believe Gekkōin is higher ranked than Tenjiryū.
The gender is unknown although I suspect Tenjiryū is a male by looking at their muscular torso and biceps of their manifestation form. Lol it would be funny if Tenjiryū turns out to be another ripped demon like Gekkoīn because then that would mean we would have another scary demon-cute human pair😅 But I don’t really care about Tenjiryū’s gender or how they look like as long as they are not another androgynous child demon😒
Mitsuba probably has the most aggressive fighting style in this series. For being so small she sure has a lot of physical strength...and she was like this since she was 13 awwww
Tenjiryū’s manifestation into an army of multiple spectral, humanoid beasts (probably dragons) with sharp glowing green blade-like arms and heavenly blue flames is the coolest manifestation I have seen so far in this series.
Tenjiryū has two strengths: one, is that it works in two different ranges, these being close range and mid range, instead of a single range, and two, it is able to be used for both offence and defence.
This manifestation looks so scary in the manga because it reaches so high. As expected of a demon whose name has “Heaven” in their name. In my opinion, Tenjiryū has a scarier manifestation than Shikama Dōji and Gekkōin’s because unlike them, Tenjiryū surrounds the whole area and I am feeling claustrophobic pls.
But I think that the thing I probably love the most about what I’ve seen so far of Tenjiryū is that they fit Mitsuba’s personality. Their style is aggressive like Mitsuba’s personality but if you have a close look most of the times Mitsuba uses Tenjiryū is in order to “protect” or “shield” someone else which fits her caring nature. Especially if you consider that, as explained by Mitsuba herself in chapter 19, manifestation users want to avoid manifesting their demons as much as possible since letting their demons out weakens the host’s body and so leaves them vulnerable to attacks yet Mitsuba is always manifesting Tenjiryū. Such a brave girl🤧
Another thing that I find interesting about Tenjiryū is that all the times Mitsuba commanded them to do something, they always tried to do it which gives me the impression Tenjiryū is quite obedient to Mitsuba. I headcanon that despite the fact that Mitsuba seems emotionally weak, Tenjiryū likes her determination.
However, in the end, looking at Tenjiryū’s name or their manifestation is just something superficial since we don’t know their personality or true potential. So far, Tenjiryū’s manifestation has been used for grabbing something (Mika’s cut arm in chapter 52), as decoys (but are weak individually and they won’t work on progenitors), to protect someone and to slice The Four Horsemen of John from a distance.
Relatively, Tenjiryū is weak but if I remember well, in the fanbook the author said that the rank of the demons is not determined by how strong they are but by how easy they are to handle. Even Kagami went as far as to point out that with demons above the Dōji (or referred as Child too) series there is no clear difference in the strength of the weapons (and this is surprising considering how much the Black Demon rank has been glorified). Tenjiryū’s rank is Dakini, which is just below the Black Demons in the pyramid and above the Doji series. One thing that all Black Demon users have in common is that all of them have been subjected to human experimentation in the past and considering that Mitsuba is human, there is nothing she can do about it. The other requirement for Black Demon users is that they must have a strong willpower and resolution...but this girl has some serious self-esteem issues and indecisiveness behind all that “I am a Sangū/elite!” talk so maybe if she obtains a boost in confidence she will get stronger🤔
However, I don’t really care that much if Mitsuba stays weak forever. This manga doesn’t need anymore INSANE Mary Sues or Gary Stus who get sudden power ups just because they are genetically advantaged. I just want some normal, deep emotional development for her where she lets go off her survivor’s guilt and learns to accept herself for who she is because she has been so hardworking since little and to tell Aoi to go suck Kureto’s d*ck if she is so loooyal to the Hiiragis as she says but maybe that’s asking too much.
My hopes for Tenjiryū’s appearance reveal are small but I still try to remember that despite all that happened in the manga Mitsuba is still a main female deuteragonist with a lot of unaddressed potential and also for the characters in universe it has been less than one day since chapter 70 (while for us it has been almost 3 years) so it’s not like Mitsuba can do something amazing in that short time frame where the focus is on Yuu, Mika and Shinoa. Moreover, I remember Kagami saying that there is something waiting Mitsuba so I hope he didn’t forget about it💔
Additionally, some people have observed that humans and their demons share similarities so I wanted to point out a small observation for this human-demon pair. Mitsuba was born on the 7th of July, which is the day of Tanabata/Star Festival, a popular Japanese festival that celebrates the meeting of two lovers represented by the stars Vega and Altair, who are separated by the Milky Way and can only meet on the 7/7 once a year. I think this goes well with Tenjiryū’s sky related name :3
If Kagami doesn’t give Mitsu attention then I will do so and I don’t give a fuck if I am being annoying

“Infinite Demon Creator” O.o
*ZOOMS IN*
👀
*FINDS OUT THE MEANING*
😳
“Infinite Demon Creator” (or Creator of Infinite Demons). What are you trying to tell me Kagami? That the girl whom you abandoned for almost 100 chapters and you only use for fanservice is able to create an infinite number of demons?
That even THIS, that couldn’t look anymore badass, can actually look EVEN MORE by manifesting a whole army of them? I know Tenjiryū is not a black demon, but still does it mean that Mitsuba has the potential of making a large scale manifestation if she trains and lets go off her fears???
Am I supposed to take this as canon? I mean, it’s from Bloody Blades. It’s a game. But they must have asked for Kagami’s contribution in order to do this which would make it actually...canon🤨

In another episode of distinguished-slacker ranting about OnS lack of girl power...
I started watching Gate: Jieitai Kano Chi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri and I have to say that I am in love with the demigoddess Rory Mercury’s fighting style. She owns a gigantic halberd twice her size which weighs like between 100 kg and the weight of a car as stated in some websites. When she fights she is a fuckin beast! If you haven’t watched or read Gate I beg you to just look at some Youtube clips of her fights please!!!😣
Rory’s fighting style is like the combined fighting style of Shinoa’s elegant swings and Mitsuba’s powerful cuts, and I have to say that when I watch Rory fighting I feel really disappointed at the way Shinoa and Mitsuba have been treated. Kagami usually forces them to stay at the back while Yuu takes the spotlight away from literally everyone. Not gonna lie katanas are nice but they don’t really have an impact on me unless they are really special ones. I find the gigantic scythe and the gigantic battle axe of the girls far cooler and with more potential.
The most action we got from these girls is a Shikama Dōji possessed Shinoa simply throwing scythes at his/her targets and Mitsuba just hitting the ground to manifest Tenjiryū. It’s a shame as there is a lot of potential for them; Shinoa’s scythe handle is perfect to slice enemies with choreographed moves while Mitsuba’s blade is dense enough to be used to hit enemies with broken rocks like Rory does.
This problem could be due to Kagami’s sexist depiction of female characters but also the fact that Kagami doesn’t really know how to write action scenes (or Yamamoto draw them), and instead relies on experimentation to finish the fight with a finishing blow and skipping all the process, which is really unsatisfactory to be honest. It’s nice that Kagami tries to emphasise the idea of teamwork (which actually he pitifully fails at because Yuu does all the job again) but the humans characters shouldn’t really always have to fight far more powerful opponents because sadly there is no chance for them to show their individual moves and strategies before they get attacked and interrupted by their opponents. I also want to see what they can actually do when they are separated and alone.
For an action manga, it sure lacks action. At least the anime, even though the action is mediocre too, had the decency of making the mock fight between Yuu and Shinoa in the rooftop last longer than in the manga. In the manga, they simply hit blades once and then Shinoa just manifested Shikama Dōji to push Yuu back without any dance like moves that the anime displayed.
Even if Kagami sucks at writing action, I will be waiting for the day Shinoa is more than a love interest and Mitsuba a tool for fanservice. Don’t just originally design them as badass ladies and not put them into action! ;-;
