Mac and Tendy! (Desert Skies)
If anyone can get Tendy in a laughing fit, it’s Mac. Guaranteed.
Tumblr media
And two more versions bc background work is not my friend~

I just binged the first season of Desert Skies (podcast) and DS FM (side podcast), and now I’m sharing it with everyone I can because it deserves a larger audience! It’s so well-made, with fun storylines, characters, and music, and couldn’t be more wholesome. It’s a pretty quick listen (season 2 is coming tho!) and easy on the soul. Love these two and will hopefully be drawing more of them (and the other characters!)

Hello not enough people talk about Desert Skies and I'm here to make that everyone's problem
Desert Skies Astral Plane Fuel and Service Station is the first stop on every traveller's journey through the astral plane. Here, the newly-departed can stock up on snacks and get their car fueled up before setting off on their journey through the astral spheres.
Yup, this is a gas station in the afterlife.
Staffed by Mac, Tendy, and C.A.S.H., who do their best to prepare travellers for their journey, as well as comforting the people they meet, allowing them to start to move on from the life they left behind on the physical plane.
Yes, this show deals with death and loss, but it's also very comforting. There are episodes that deal with personal growth and making peace with your past and the mistakes you've made. There may be tears, but at the end of an episode, you'll feel like you've gone on an emotional journey with the latest traveller to arrive at Desert Skies, and come out the other side a better person.
There is also A Bigger Overarching Plot and Big Character Development
The 80s-inspired music is a VIBE, and fits the show's aesthetic perfectly. Corsonopoli has not left my head since I first heard it.
Also, all of the characters are voiced by one man??

Look who's making a triumphant return to Audio Drama Sunday! It's me and it's because I'm sick lol. But since I'm here, can we talk about what a week audio drama has had??
🍵 Are you guys listening to Nightmare Soup?? It's a kid-friendly horror anthology set around a diner that I, as someone who knows a little about food safety, find truly horrifying. It's based off the books of the same name and it has an absolutely delightful theme song. Shoutout to Melissa Lusk and Mattroi Berger. Yeah, the Fall of the House of Sunshine people. Please listen to this show.
⛽️ Desert Skies is often sentimental and often pretty heartbreaking, but this episode in particular just hits. Like, what a reminder. What a story. Good stuff. I love you, Tendy.
🧠 Our Fair City is re-releasing, and this is the perfect time for me, because I fell off right when it was ending. I'm so glad I get to experience this show, some of it for the first time. Hey, audio drama people, know your roots. If you love Unwell and World Gone Wrong, go see what that crew did first!
🍕 Speaking of World Gone Wrong. Oh my gosh. Oh man. What a SHOW. Like this setup of the uncanny food that no one recognizes is so good, but the dramatic irony in letting us in on the truth is unfathomable. I told everyone I talked to about this episode. It's that good.
💁‍♀️ Hey are you guys listening to Someone Just Like You?? It's a new horror anthology from the mind behind Two Flat Earthers Kidnap A Freemason, and it holds up to its premise. There's something so mundane, so conversational about the tone of the stories, and that makes them all the scarier. Good grief, go listen.
🧛🏻‍♂️ IT'S TIME!!! The Holmwood Foundation posted their trailer and to say that I'm excited about this show would be a huge understatement. What an entrance. I am Obsessed. Rebecca Root is incredible, and cannot wait to hear more of her work.
That's it for me! I'm off to do something kinda fancy fun for Re: Drac. Later!

Happy Audio Drama Sunday! I've had a lot of time to listen to podcasts this week thanks to a long road trip, so you've been warned!
Give Me Away Episodes 1 - 4: this is the other show I'm listening to with the @podcast-bookclub, though I missed the first week. I caught up on the first two episodes then listened to this week's two episodes, which ended in a very exciting fashion! There have been so many little moments of tension building up to this point, and each one has felt so real, so human. I am completely captivated.
@camlannpod Episodes 4 - Into the Fire, 4.5 - Answerphone & 5 - Gwaine: I'm very curious to see what other changes Gwen will bring to the story. Based on ep 4, I'm sure they'll be interesting! She's definitely a take-charge type. I love seeing how Perry and Morgan support Dai. That whole build up to the end of ep 5 was just...ugh, heartbreaking. I'm holding out the smallest smidge of hope that someone Gwaine's story ended differently from what we heard...
@storiesfromylelmore Episode 204 - Love Letter: Keryth immediately turning to Rion after finding out you can marry your best friend and just do best friend things for life is the most adorable thing. I LOVE the noir detective bit! Rion falls into it just as easily as Keryth and it's fantastic. I also love Hewe's support and defense of Keryth after the fight. I'm glad that while Keryth and Rion are supporting Elas, they're not letting them off the hook for being mean in the past. One day we'll know what Elas's true colour is...
@desertskiespodcast Desert Skies FM - The Things We're Afraid to Lose: In this lovely interlude, we get a glimpse at a new Tendy, after having received his gift. His beautiful message is about finding a moment to sit in, to accept that it's momentary, and resting in it anyway.
@octoberandfish October Jones and Fish With Legs S02E09 - Crystals Are Forever (Casamanta pt. 1): OJAFWL is back!! And their adventure continues! It's so fun hearing their shenanigans and ridiculousness again. I need to go back and re-listen to the details about this book though...
@hinaypod: I finished re-listening to Hi Nay this week in preparation for the last episode before the hiatus. There are so many new things I've picked up on as we've learned more from the last few episodes. I love shows like this, where little moments or clues are seeded from the beginning!
Hi Nay Episode 48 - Pasko (Christmas) Part 2: Again, this episode is being released tonight but I've heard it thanks to Patreon, and wow. As the last episode before their hiatus, I knew it was going to be a good one, and I wasn't wrong! My emotions were all over the place - happy and excited, devastated and brokenhearted, peaceful and hopeful... Motzie has done it again!!

Desert Skies theroy:
this is likely nothing, as I know Jared does all the voices so there may be some overlap, but also he's incredible at it and I can tell his characters apart by voice alone more consistently than I sometimes can for shows with different voice actors, so -
does anyone else think Nonny and.... her name completely escapes me, the Mean Old Lady... could be related?
My three pieces of 'evidence' that made me think this during the episode were:
Their accents/voices. Nonny has this interesting way of dragging out her L sounds, and I thought I noticed that in the Mean Old Lady too. Their voices were distinct, but I think it was just in pitch, I thought the way they spoke was similar.
The way Nonny reacted to the woman. She jumped really quickly to 'she's an abuser and there's nothing you can do to change her.' ...this also might just be because the episode wasn't supposed to be too too long and it had to get to the point of 'Tendy can't save everyone and he needs to be aware of that and stop pressuring himself,' but like. Towards the beginning I was very much on Tendy's side, give the woman a chance, she just died, sure she's a bitch but everyone deserves an opportunity, you just met her... Of course hitting Nonny seriously crossed a line and at no point did I like her, and even if she is irredeemable I don't think the point is that she is irredeemable but rather that Tendy does not personally have to redeem her (she's got a lot of sphere to go through! if she's going to experience character development, there'll be times and places for it then! so he can cut himself a break, put himself and his friends first!) But all that said: I felt like Nonny wrote her off very quickly and in such strong language - immediately jumping to the words 'abuse' and 'abuser' that it inclined me to think she knew this woman (or at the very least someone similar)
The mention of the woman's daughter.
I've only listened to it once and idk, I don't really think this was the intent, but it crossed my mind more than once while listening and it COULD be. I kind of want it to be just because it would be cool to predict something lol but I don't think I'm right. I don't remember if it was established whether time works normally / in order on the Astral Plane but I feel like it doesn't... so anyway maybe Nonny could be that woman's daughter... but of course the woman didn't seem to recognize her so probably not.

I made a Desert Skies playlist! Got a bit carried away making art for the cover 🙈
Some of it fits the vibe of the show, but mostly it’s just songs I imagine would be fun to listen to while chilling at the station, especially with Mac.
Like Space Worms - I can’t imagine Mac not liking that song.
It’s specific to my music taste ofc, but I think it’s worth a share:
