Doppelgänger was FABULOUS! The character and plotlines were super interesting as well

I loved Machina X Flayon/Abandoned Automaton plotline. It was my favorite out of all the routes.

An abandoned machine, who loves his master despite not having a human heart. The expression of his emotions through the frustration of his "master" trying to leave him again results in a very tragic and violent end.

The character building in such a short amount of time was so impressive. You could really feel the anguish and the mechanical nature of the Automaton.

The voice acting was also excellent, as expected lol. The passion Flayon showed through his voice lines were spectacular.

The Josuiji Shinri/Huntsman route was also incredibly tragic and beautiful. I love sacrificial love displayed in fiction, and The Huntsman delivered.

There was a great deal of storytelling and worldbuilding in his route in particular, bur it was never confusing to understand. He was such a sweet character and gave up everything to see the MC live. Although I knew him for only a short time, his route was incredibly impactful plot-wise and emotionally. The Huntsman route is my second favorite route.

I wonder how the game will influence Tempus lore, because members of Guild Tempus were involved in the plot somewhat.

Amazing game! Shout out to the Tempus boys and all the managers who were involved in this project.

What happens when a god’s vessel is disconnected from them?

A hand reaches out to touch his forehead, brushing his bangs out of the way. Careful, practiced. His friend brushes over the scar there. One breath passes. Two.

A cool energy collects on the surface of his skin, pain ebbs away like pricks of falling snow. Instead of peace, there is a moment of dread not unlike the feeling of an impending need to vomit. Power rushes back into the empty space the coolness left. It pushes against his head from the inside out itching crawling begging scraping to get out get out get out- let me in.

It’s dark above the place he finds himself. Rather, its dark above. Sapphires shine beneath his feet, a million tiny geodes providing friendly light. They go on for as far as he can see. Maybe none of this is real, and he’s only imagining them. That really is the most likely thing, now that he's thought of it. What was that? Why is he here? Will he ever have a normal experience with a doctor ever? The others must be-

-what is that.

A presence approaches. Massive, inconceivably sot. They are him and yet not all of him. Nothing could be all of him, infinity can never be filled. A million tiny sapphires coalesce into one structure above and below and around. Surrounded by light and the presence of a stranger. The presence of an enemy.

And yet it is him. Him as he never will be, and he never has been. And yet he is here, right now. A doppelganger like he has never seen before. Holding his hands. Stepping forward, placing his head onto his shoulder. Something sharp almost digs into his skin.

A god holds their vessel like he is the most precious thing in the world. The Land is silent. The vessel should be angry at him. He isn’t. The Land has a crack in his forehead shrouded in blues and coppers. Despite the lack of any real gore, it upsets tempus more than he thinks he could ever put into words. They hurt the same. They are the same.

They stand there for minutes or seconds or hours or years. All of them at once. A god cries tears of relief into his shoulder. Ichor drips down his wrists as he holds his face that is his own. A feedback loop of sorrysorryhurtreliefconnectioncomfort pulses between them in the spaces where they are far away enough not to feel like they share the same skin (but they do and always will they hurt the same they are the same)

And then he wakes up.

@theannoyingurge I find this confusing also. Bhaal's temple isn't exactly a place of luxury.

That's actually lore-accurate. And Bhaal having a temple is actually an oddity for him (in urban areas he usually sticks to shrines because most civilisations don't actually want too powerful a Bhaalist contingent in their city, oddly, Baldur's Gate is just fucked up. In rural areas you either get fortified monasteries, or a shrine in the form of a stone circle around an altar on a barren hilltop (the stones carved to 'resemble teardrop-shaped skulls')).

That said, while the temple is pretty meh to look at - 'dark, spartan dungeons located beneath a city's streets featuring an occasional mosaic or sculpture depicting a violent death' - it probably does contain some wealth: temples contain several rooms containing tokens from sacrificial victims that were offered to Bhaal. While a lot of those trophies are going to be severed limbs, heads and organs (usually the heart), jewellery and valuables are also taken and half of the wealth of the victim is to be offered to the temple... Assuming the deathbringer in question doesn't barter the valubles for something else to dodge having to pay. There's probably a room containing a pile of gold, jewellery, gemstones and trade bars and such somewhere.

All this kind of feeds into my confusion about Bhaal's opinion on money. I hope the Bhaalists have as many arguments and headaches about it as I do with myself.

All those doppelgangers, yet no apparent interest in organizing an invasion of body snatchers to infiltrate the elites?

I'd put that down to Act 3 being a rush job personally... Also doppelgangers seem to be more linked to Bane than Bhaal.

Don't the Zhentarim offer assassination services without giving Bhaal credit?

Unless they're very devout Cyricists they probably do; even if he's not their patron a sensible assassin will be offering a prayer to Bhaal before work. That's how life works for the vast majority of people in the realms. Travelling? Make a quick offering to every single relevant god. Killing somebody for whatever reason? Offering to Bhaal.

I'm not 100% versed in the lore here, but I feel like this avenue for power should appeal to Bhaal more than "end all life and breed legions of monsters". He was a rogue.

Part of the problem is that Bhaal is defined by his portfolio. Tempus must wage war because he is the god of war. Eldath cannot do violence because she is peace. And something I read recently which might actually make this stupid plan feasible: Bane is driven to scheme to try and wrest control of the Weave from Mystra and rule as 'Tyrant of the Weave,' even though he knows that's basically impossible and he has no hope of succeeding or holding it and his attempts would damage the Weave beyond repair, because he is Tyranny and it's his essential nature to seek to dominate one of the greatest powers on Toril. Bhaal is Murder; just like Durge, but with less humanity in the mix.

It wouldn't stop his coveting wealth and the power it brings though - notably there is a ruling the world (alone) before the burning of the world. Also he can basically still go for it secure in the knowledge that he can't succeed anyway.

...I still think the evil ending is ridiculous in how it plays out though.

I'm just eternally amused and slightly bemused by the Bhaalist fixation on wealth:

'[Non-priests] were also to pray when giving gold to Bhaalists (to ensure that the Lord of Murder accepted their gift) and whenever a violent death occurred nearby or to someone related to them.'

Although, in fairness, making offerings is how you pray and money is a typical offering for any god and priests usually tithe money to their own church (10% for most faiths, 50% for Bhaalists) with these guys it keeps coming back to money specifically. I don't know whether that means the priests won't pass on your prayer without a bribe or whether Bhaal himself is unreceptive to not murdering you without seeing some shiny coins coming his way*. Regardless, with the way his worshippers go at it, Bhaal might want to try his hand at usurping Waukeen.

*I still can't tell whether Bhaal is indifferent to money past pragmatism (wealth and power facilitate glorious violence and murder), or if he's actually just as avaricious as the people he attracts into service (things in canon to support that: has butlers; has a 'household' with 'staff' and 'guards;' was once allies with the god of thieves (which might have fallen through after Mask literally stabbed him in the back and killed him (being a sword at the time)))

The mystery eats at me: Where is this coming from? How do you get into 'death is holy; the people called to Bhaal's service see death as a holy duty; strengthen death; risk your life fighting things that are stronger than you because your own death too is holy,' and then be amongst the most materialistic bitches on the planet? (Although it's the church of Waukeen, followed by the Maskarrans who are the wealthiest faiths).

He’s swept up in a flash of blinding light, familiar gold lightning sparking by amongst the white out, and then he’s standing on sand under the scorching sun and breathing in heat. It’s a jarring change from the cell he was just in, surrounded by hard walls and torches, cement beneath his boots.; Oliver lifts a forearm to block out the sun, chain dangling between his wrists. He does a slow turn in place, but there’s nothing but sand in any direction, no Nanda Parbat, no League of Assassins.; He lowers his arm.; “Damn it, Barry,” Oliver mutters, and starts walking, “What did you do now?”; _____; In a thousand years, this place will be ruins, dirt, and sand.

Shadow: Temple of Tempus

She started out walking and then when the door slammed shut she took to flying again - it was faster and she just wanted to get this over with. This would be super easy, right? Naut was just taking a while because he was...complex. And who knew what was up with the elf they were sent to rescue. Maybe he just got stuck? 

Her eyes landed on translucent red in the shape of...herself. She took a step back and drew her bow. There was even a doppelganger of Flax in her double’s arms, though it didn’t move nor make a sound. The diaphanous version of her, though...

“Livvy Cutebite! Olive Cutebite! Take your pick, it doesn’t matter what you call me, because I can’t even be bothered to explain my actual name is Olóige, from the Gortaithe Alainn clan anyway!” It - because that couldn’t be her, even with her voice - pet the motionless Flax and cooed “Right, Lín Donn?”

Livvy herself lowered her bow. “You know that we can’t tell outsiders our True Name!” 

“Ah, but that’s not why we do this, is it?” The clone wagged its finger. “Excuses, excuses. Always excuses, to ourselves, to everybody, about everything. And boy are there soooo many things! Let’s learn about them! We love learning so much! Or do we?”

“Of course! It’s the whole point of this! To get out of that stifling forest, away from those close-minded, overly cautious buzzkills -”

“And come back?”

“...well, yes, eventually -”

“Come back a better fairy? Show them all that we finally bore fruit?”

“A possible end goal, but not the sole motivation -”

“Then why do we keep looking back?”

... “Excuse me?” Livvy dropped her bow.

“You do! You look back, constantly, because you never actually wanted to leave the forest, of course. You’re just trying to make the best of being kicked out - but you really miss how safe and easy life was in the woods. It’s why you latched onto the first adventurer you could find, because the further this group takes you away, the less pressure there is on you to actually make the choice and decide how much you actually regret being forced to leave.”

Livvy sat down. “How long is this going to take? To have to listen to your lies?”

“If they’re lies, why’re you shaking? Careful, you’ll snap the bow - you know, our only real reminder of things back home?”

When had she even picked it back up - she tossed it away from her and noticed that her double didn’t have one. Not even a quiver. 

“But even in the group we don’t fit in - everybody has their baggage and their quirks and we’re just so bland and boring that we have to cling to the one interesting thing that happened to us and keep bringing it up over and over and over again, because otherwise we’re just not sad, not tragic enough to fit in with this group. Because if we admit how good we have it, that we’re just SO well-adjusted -”

“Would I have even have been able to get in here if everything was peachy keen?” She scrambled for her bow again - she had teammates to save, right? Better get on that!

“We’re almost done and you know it, whereas the others probably haven’t even finished number one on their list. Well, at least spelling everything out. We still got to admit it, and that requires making a decision and sticking with it, so we might be here even longer than the sun elf.” 

Livvy grit her teeth. 

“And that’s not even considering how much effort it’ll take to even decide what our personality is. It’s so wishy-washy and vague that we might as well not have one.” 

“Well -” Livvy gathered herself, stowed her bow and hovered. “I’m about to make my first decision, then.” 

“Oh?” Red Livvy tilted her head. The door on the other side had slid open a while ago and Livvy was just too wrapped up in this nonsense to notice it but now...now she zipped through the door. The goal was to rescue the elf and dear Ehlonna, she was going to rescue the elf. Dedication was part of her psyche, after all, and that would never waver.
