Bhadurgad / Dharmaveergad Situated 100km east of Pune, Bhadurgad consists of a small collection of temples (circa 13th century) located on the banks of the river Bhima, and a much ruined fort and palace complex immediately next to the temples. Shri Laxmi Narayan temple is the best preserved of the Hemadpanti temples on the site. The carvings outside the temple are quite exceptional, but for me the highlight were the carved windows, in all manners of shapes which created a very special feel once inside the temple. Immediately next to the Shri Laxmi Narayan temple is the Shri Baleshwar Temple, not in such a good state of preservation but still worth exploring. There is hardly anything left of the old fort now, except for a few ruined structures that for the most part stand in isolation from one another. The fort is famous for two events : 1) When the warrior king Shivaji heard news of the arrival of the two hundred trained Arabian stallions at Bhadurgad, he deliberately leaked the news that he was planning to attack Bhadurgad. Intially 2,000 men attacked the fort and then retreated with Bahadur Khan in hot pursuit with his army. Luring the Mughals 20km away from the fort, the Marathas then dispersed into the landscape. Meanwhile, the remaining 6,000 Maratha contingent attacked the fort, taking away all the gold and horses. 2) Later after death of Shivaji in 1689, Sambhaji Raje was captured at Sangameshwar and was brought to Bhadurgad as a prisoner. Here he was subjected to a horrific torture and eventual death when he refused to be converted to Islam. The account of what they did to him is beyond comprehension, details of which are available on Wikipedia and countless other places no doubt. "Incredible India" महाराष्ट्र हा संतानी पराक्रमी पुरुषांनी आणि देवीदेवतांच्या वरदहस्तानी फुलवलेला संपन्न प्रदेश आहे. महाराष्ट्रातील असंख्य धार्मिक स्थळे खूप प्राचीन, स्वयंभू आणि जागृत इतिहास असूनही महाराष्ट्राच्या नकाशावर अनभिज्ञ आहेत. यातीलच एक धार्मिक ठिकाण म्हणजे शिखर शिंगणापूर.  शिखर शिंगणापूर हे भारताच्या महाराष्ट्र राज्याच्या सातारा जिल्ह्याच्या माण तालुक्यातील एक गाव आणि धार्मिक स्थान आहे. येथे, सातारा सोलापूर व पुणे या तीन जिल्ह्यांच्या सीमेवर ऐतिहासिक काळापासून हे शंभू महादेवाचे मंदिर अस्तित्वात आहे. शिखर शिंगणापूरचा शंभू महादेव म्हणजे महाराष्ट्रातील अनेकांचे कुलदैवत आहे. महादेवाचे हे मंदिर आणि शिंगणापूर गाव दोनीही यादव कुळातील सिंधण राजाने वसवली आहेत, असे म्हणतात. मंदिराला दगडी तटबंदी आहे आणि ��ा मंदिराच्या आवारात पाच मोठे नंदी आहेत. देवगिरीच्या यादव घराण्यातील सिंघण राजा येथे येऊन राहिला होता. त्यानेच शिंगणापूर गाव वसविले. शंभू महादेव हे भोसले घराण्याचे कुलदैवत असल्याने मालोजीराजे भोसले आपल्या परिवारासह देवदर्शनासाठी येथे येत. पाण्याच्या दुर्भिक्षेमुळे भाविकांचे होणारे हाल पाहून मालोजी राजांनी येथे इ.स. १६०० साली एक मोठे तळे येथे बांधले, त्यास पुष्करतीर्थ असे म्हणत; त्यालाच आता शिवतीर्थ म्हणतात. पूर्वीचे देऊळ पडल्यामुळे १७३५ मध्ये शाहू महाराजांनी सध्याचे देऊळ बांधले. १९७८ मध्ये त्याचाही जीर्णोद्धार झाला. दक्षिणेतील रामस्वामी नावाच्या एका स्थापत्यतज्‍ज्ञाकडून शिखराची व मंदिराची डागडुजी करून त्यांना आकर्षक रंग देण्यात आला आहे. #incredibleindia #travelrealindia #maharashtrachishaan #maharashtradesha #chatrapatishivaji #jaibholenath #harharmahadev #devotee #templesofmaharashtra #photographylife #canonindia #explorenewlife #pawarsann (at Shikhar Shinganapur)

Ambarnath Shiv Mandir, Maharashtra. Located on the west bank of the Waldhuni river 6km south-east of Kalyan in the Thane district of Maharashtra, the 11th century Ambarnath Temple is one of the finest examples of early temple art and architecture, and is the oldest securely dated Bhumija temple in the state (and quite possibly the whole of India). Dedicated to Shiva, an inscription above the north porch entrance suggests that the construction of the temple commenced during the reign of the north Konkan ruler Chhittaraja (approx 1022 – 1035 A.D.), and was completed during the reign of his younger brother Mummuniraja (1045 – 1070 A.D.). While there are a number of Bhumija temples in India that are likely to be older based on their architectural elements, none of these have inscriptions to help us pinpoint a date for their construction. The west-facing temple is in a style typical of 11th century temples, combining Nagara and Dravidian architectural elements from central India. Unlike similar temples that are typically set on a high platform, Ambarnath stands in a slight hollow, potentially due to the sanctum being almost 3m below the floor of the adjoining mandapa. The mysterious and remarkable Agnivrish at Pateshwar in Maharashtra, where the deity appears to manifest the seven hands of Lord Agni along with the body of a bull (Vrishabha). Agni is described in the Vedas as having two heads, seven hands, and three legs. If you see the deity from the front you can identify all of these aspects.
