Some primal aasimar cleric & druid ideas got really stuck in my craw last year so I'm revisiting. Tempest domain, gods of fury and prophecised purpose, my beloveds.

The Storm of the Shadowfell - a Shadowheart build for Rosan
“Onward, in Shar's name.”
Shadowheart is a Tempest Domain Cleric and Wizard, channeling the churning winds of the Shadowfell. After ascending to a Dark Justiciar, she worships Shar with every wave of destruction.
[check out my other builds!]
Gameplay Notes
In a way, this is a riff on my previous dark Shadowheart build, The Dark Justiciar. Many of the same strengths and weaknesses in the early game shine through, but so does the endearing roleplay of Shadowheart wanting to wear Dark Justiciar armor she finds, even if it’s broken beyond repair.
The main branching off point for the two builds happens after unlocking the full Dark Justiciar set at the end of Act 2. Instead of leaning into Darkness and melee attacks, this build has Shadowheart respeccing to Tempest Domain and becoming a terrifying force of nature, following the general gameplay loop for Clerics much more closely (similar to my previous full-cleric build, The Beating Heart). Lightning and Thunder damage will be the main sources of damage, thanks to some awesome Domain Spells and the Tempest Domain Channel Divinity.
The one level dip into Wizard is largely for utility, due to the way scribing spells works in game. [should it be possible for a Level 1 Wizard to cast Globe of Invulnerability? absolutely not! am I happy to take advantage of that poor decision? you betcha] Heavy Armor and Martial Weapons proficiency is a nice bonus, as well.
Stats and Leveling
Final build: Level 11 Tempest Domain Cleric, Level 1 Wizard
Shadowheart’s (default) stats: STR 13 / DEX 13 / CON 14 / INT 10 / WIS 17 / CHA 8
Level 1 - Cleric (Tempest Domain) Level 1
Cantrips: Guidance, Sacred Flame, Resistance
1st Level Spells [Command is useful throughout the entire game]
Level 2 - Cleric (Tempest Domain) Level 2
Destructive Wrath
Level 3 - Cleric (Tempest Domain) Level 3
2nd Level Spells
Level 4 - Cleric (Tempest Domain) Level 4
Feat: War Caster
Cantrips: add Thaumaturgy
Level 5 - Cleric (Tempest Domain) Level 5
3rd Level Spells [Call Lightning is super fun for this build]
Level 6 - Cleric (Tempest Domain) Level 6
Thunderbolt Strike
Level 7 - Cleric (Tempest Domain) Level 7
4th Level Spells [Ice Storm is good, but I often use these spell slots for upcasting 3rd Level Spells]
Level 8 - Cleric (Tempest Domain) Level 8
Feat ASI+ STR>14, WIX>18
Divine Strike: Thunder [this is fun to use with Shar’s Spear of Evening, if you want, but it’s not the point of the build]
Level 9 - Cleric (Tempest Domain) Level 9
5th Level Spells [Destructive Wave rocks my socks off]
Level 10 - Wizard Level 1 [if you want to ignore the Wizard dip and get a third feat instead, just skip this part]
Spell Scribing
Cantrips: Bone Chill, Ray of Frost, Minor Illusion
1st Level Spells [INT won’t be high, so pick utilities like Shield and Feather Fall]
Level 11 - Cleric (Tempest Domain) Level 10
Divine Intervention [obviously SUPER powerful, I usually use mine in the House of Hope]
Cantrip: add Light
Level 12 - Cleric (Tempest Domain) Level 11
6th Level Spells [Heroes’ Feast is awesome]
[if you did twelve levels of Cleric, you’ll get a third feat - I recommend ASI+ WIS>20]
Items
Armor -
Dark Justiciar Mail (1 Grymforge)
Dark Justiciar Half-Plate (Rare) (2 Gauntlet of Shar)
Dark Justiciar Half-Plate (Very Rare) (3 Nightsong)

Ring 2 - Ring of Twilight (2 Ruined Battlefield)
Gloves -
Dark Justiciar Gauntlets (Uncommon) (2 Gauntlet of Shar)
Dark Justiciar Gauntlets (Rare) (2 Nightsong)

Gloves of Belligerent Skies (1 Creche)

Dark Justiciar Boots (2 Nightsong)
OR [I couldn’t decide if I wanted the full DJ armor set or more synergy with Lighting and Thunder damage, so you pick!]
Boots of Stormy Clamour (1 Myconid Colony)
Cloak - Thunderskin Cloak (2 Moonrise Towers)
Lore and Flavor
As I’ve waxed poetic about several times in previous Shadowheart builds, I have a strong allegiance to the chosen deity’s domains when picking a subclass, and have only ever been able to justify Light Domain outside of that guideline because it’s so good in game and feels right for Shadowheart’s character growth. This build, inspired by rosanqro, provides a potential explanation for a non-Trickery Domain Dark Justiciar build — making the connection between the storms in the Shadowfell [at least the Shadowfell that we see in game, since I haven’t been able to find mention of storms in the Shadowfell in other DnD lore] and the Tempest Domain was such a great idea! I was really inspired to write this up fairly quickly, especially since a lot of it is similar to previous Shadowheart builds I’ve done.
I like the idea of sticking with Trickery Domain (following my other builds/just leveling this build without the subclass details) until Shadowheart’s experience with the Nightsong in the Shadowfell. Then, as part of her transformation to a Dark Justiciar, she embraces the wind, thunder, and lightning she experienced there.
Anyway, thank you Rosan for the great idea! Hope you like it :)
[check out my build disclaimer for info about how and why I don't min/max or completely optimize builds, prioritizing lore and vibe instead]

just some lazy Disney-style Aurora ⛈️⛈️⛈️
because i have an ache in my bones to play some bg3 again and also she's currently my fave tav
and a super-duper quick rundown of who tf she is and what the hell she's doing amid the Tadpole Havers™:
Aurora of the house Du Lac is a noble-born half-elf sorceress with a spark of thunderous wild magic about her, whose childhood palace stands tall above the sea on an island west of Neverwinter. Lighting, storms, hails and rains seem to breathe with her thoughts and emotions at all times; the household always knew she was sad whenever it rained viciously for hours and days. An embarrassing flaw such was - to be under the control of her own magic in the family of fabled sorcerers and wizards, incapable of casting a spell without causing the weather to sour. And so she grew aloof and withdrawn, her only friends and windows into the outside world were mere books full of adventure, drama, and love. Determined to control her magic she plunged herself into studies, eventually finding solace in the teachings of Lady Mystra, becoming her cleric armed and armored with thunder and gales. She fondly remembers her youth in the warmth of Mystra's guidance, back when she - a mere child - had yet no idea who her tutor truly was. Music and dance also helped calm her inner and outer storms and let the magic flow calmly like a morning drizzle. Until, that is, she was met with the harsh reality of being the eldest daughter of a noble house: marriage. Not by love but by choice. The choice made by anybody but her. To strengthen the magic within the bloodline, to fatten up the treasury, to enlarge the estate... She endured like a good daughter should for years, but every day the dark clouds outside her window brewed and bubbled with a hurricane about to erupt. She begged Mystra for help, begged her family, prayed to whoever would listen. But one night the storm broke loose, and while the winds howled and hail smashed the windows she ran wherever her feet would carry her and then - the darkness of an alien ship and a horrid headache. After the crash, she wandered the wilds alone and afraid until she came about a group of adventurers not far from the druids' grove. Among them was a familiar face, or uh... A snout. Pearl the friendly dragonborn healer, one who found salvation from the torment of her wild sorcery in the embrace of Lathander, a healer with a stern hand and a motherly gaze whom Aurora knew through some friends of friends and who became a much needed anchor in the world turned upside down. With time, she let the storm within her ebb and flow as it may, letting her magic be her guiding light, its willful destructive nature a boon amidst the dangers they faced every day. In that hum of the Weave, she found another voice - Gale of Waterdeep. Another toy used and discarded by Mystra, left to wallow in her silence. Another creature of magic, the only thing in Toril she would call a friend. Quiet evenings spent reading, stargazing, sharing stories over a glass of wine, and before she knew it the magic had bound them forever. So when the disgruntled husband found his escaped wife and demanded she return home at once, Aurora needn't shiver in fear: the whole squad jumped to her protection and so did Gale. With a charming smile upon his lips he promised to incinerate anyone who'd dare come near Aurora. From that day she knew what her newfound goal in life would be. Forget the tadpole and the Absolute. She'd save him from the Orb whatever the price would be. It was thanks to Gale, after all, that the storms within and without were for once calm and quiet.

Thought I'd post one of my piece since I've been gone for a while. This is my first character I managed to get to Level 20, Heidrun!
She's my angry scottish cleric who clutched everything in the big final boss by mass healing everyone.
She was for Oracle of War, an Adventure League campaign. Good campaign, little weird writing and plot points, but hey, we won!

Artemi's Character Glossary
Official Temptation's Ballad's Character Glossary by Shirokoi
Artemi Johanna Gautier
Species: Golden Retriever
Age: 20 Years
Multiclass: Cleric (Tempest Domain) and Paladin (Oath of Devotion)
Profession: Holy Knight of the Church
Stats
STRENGTH: 16 (+3)
DEXTERITY: 14 (+2)
CONSTITUTION: 16 (+3)
INTELLIGENCE: 13 (+1)
WISDOM: 16 (+3)
CHARISMA: 6 (-2)
Background
As the Creator's Chosen One, Artemi is destined to protect the world from a terrible fate like the many Chosen before her.
Despite this important role, Artemi has lived a sheltered life inside the Grand Cathedral and scarcely knows anything about the outside world and thus feels utterly unprepared.
Naive and optimistic, she is ever determined to improve herself and fulfill her duty, no matter what obstacles may stand in her way
Items:
Standard Church Knight Sword and Shield
A standard sword and shield set from the Holy Knights of the Church. The quality is rather low for church equipment.
Artemi has attuned to this set and can magically summon and dismiss them at any time/location.
Worn Candlestick
A small used candlestick worn to the last inch of its life.
Small finger-like impressions line the sides of the candle, as though it had been gripped deathly tight by a young child.
Artemi carries this in her pocket at all times as a solemn reminder.
Other
Artemi notably carries very little on her person, lacking even a basic coin purse.
All of her earnings and material payments from missions go straight to the church's vaults.
As Her Excellency likes to remind her, "The Creator's Chosen should maintain their humility and free themselves from worldly indulgences."

i get the gentle healer trope completely like i understand the appeal fo a character who drains themself for the sake of others of a character who is self sacrificing to the nth degree who dedicates their life to saving people, often at their own expense.
but also clerics are fucking crazy man especially clerics of death and the grave and stuff. i love clerics who cause more damage than they heal who can't touch without harming clerics whose blood runs necrotic and whose gods gifts are acid and poison and violence - not even evil clerics. people who are sworn to the dark and distasteful aspects of service, who perform their tasks with filthy hands, bloodstained faith.
people who are so devoted to their god they take on the things no one else is willing to do, who sacrifice their own innocence and their own peace in the name of faith.
#i think clerics is crayzy is the thing i think that kind of religious devotion is soooo fun and has so much potential#you are a priest!! you are so devout your god loves you in particular and the way that is expressed is through necrosis and rot#and your hands are black and stained and people look to you for healing you can't provide#i think bg3 is a letdown for clerics bc a) the game Expects you to take shadowheart with you everywhere so playing the class is less....fun#and 2) it doesn't give you the cool domains:( except for light and tempest my beloveds but. idk i feel like clerics got shafted a little#i'll probably have more thoguhts on this later idk

Spending my sick time writing out my own ATLA creation myth which won't even be relevant until Book 4 of Fractures, but by god will it be ready when it is needed.
Staring at me, mockingly, is Baldur's Gate 3, currently open to literally right before the fight at the end of Act 2, as well as my outline for Fractures. Both are waiting for me and like a coward I refuse.
#fractures atla#i love writing spirit world lore#and also physical world lore?#if its a creation myth it is straight up world lore#also this is technically just the cosmology and cosmogony#not really a myth when its literally just “how the world came to be” but whatever#playing a tempest domain cleric in this current bg3 run#in case anyone cares lol
