don't you love it when your cats are fish! (fanclan information i feel like posting below)
General
Felus Felaestus (Lama Wildcat) is a species of wildcat living on a large archipelago which eventually attaches to the mainland of a tropical country part of a larger continent. The area they live in is protected, as the part of the mainland they are connected to is a massive tropical rainforest.
There are no human settlements in the rainforest on the mainland. However humans will occasionally show up in the rainforest and archipelago to observe wildlife and flora, including the cats. The cats are hostile towards humans!
They seem to be the descendants of domestic cat and other local wildcat species’ offspring. However due to being secluded from other cat species for so long + the unusual nature of where they chose to live they have very unique traits! Biology
They have webbed paws and large dew claws which can act as a thumb! Give it a couple hundred thousand years and some of them would probably become monkeys.
They have a specialized internal organ which allows them to filter oxygen out of water and proper lungs. They are both aquatic and terrestrial. They have gills on their sides, and fur is thinner around them.
They are slightly longer than most other wildcat species and have shorter legs. Their tails commonly appear tapered. Getting their tail cut off badly affects these cats, as it makes swimming much harder! Archipelago
The country the Archipelago sits on is called Terangesia. The rainforest is called the Luas Rainforest, and the Archipelago is called the Lama Islands/Lama Archipelago.
To the cats, the Archipelago is called Korallmeregang, and the Rainforest is called the Ygros Forest.
There are approx. 17,000-18,000 islands, islets, reefs, and other formations within the Archipelago.
The main problems facing the clans are predators, climate change, and infighting.
There are many predators which also roam the Lamas archipelago and the Luas Rainforest. Their main predators are the other wildcats around them, such as leopards and tigers. They also compete with dholes, sun bears, certain types of otters, and badgers. Alongside predators, there are many poisonous or toxic plants they need to watch out for.
Due to climate change generally across the world and within the surrounding area, mostly due to deforestation of the Luas Rainforest, there has been an uprising in coastal storms, flooding, prolonged and severe summer weather, and altered rainfall. To the clancats, the long summers and coastal storms affect them the most.
Due to various factors, the clans have somewhat different religious beliefs. This causes differences in morality, and leads to fighting between groups. It also can lead to infighting between the clans themselves at times. The Clans, General There are 4 clans within the Korallmeregang.
Penglihaclan lives, camp and hunt within the water itself on the end of one island on the Archipelago. They are relatively secluded from the other groups as they spend almost all of their lives underwater, however The Stellagenangan is within their territory. They are relatively mysterious and tend to be dehumanized by the other clans due to that.
They are known as the alluring, diligent and solemn.
Hangatclan partially in water and partially on land within the Archipelago. Their closest neighbor is (Gerejaclan), who they constantly switch back and forth in views on. Their camp is on the sandy beach of the coast, with little outward protection. Because of this, they are extremely adept in battle. However at the same time, they are known to be very relaxed. They take life for granted, and do not see death as ‘bad’.
They are known as the candid, skillful, and pragmatic.
Gerejaclan live partially in water and partially on land within the Archipelago. Their closest neighbor is (Hangatclan), who they constantly switch back and forth in views on. Their camp is in a coastal cave, protected by large and sharp rocks. They are extremely religious, conformative and strict. Their cats tend to be intellectually the smartest, though they have very large egos. However at the same time, they feel responsible for all groups on the archipelago (mostly due to seeing themselves as the best) and will often warn the other clans in advance about storms.
They are known as the methodical, dauntless, and faithful.
Temanclan live closest to the mainland, though still on the Archipelago. They are friendlier overall than the other groups, though have a bad reputation due to them wanting to be on good terms with the other local wildcats. They camp around a running river which cuts through the territory and leads to the sea. They hold joy and love over things like survival, which makes them a generally enjoyable group to live within, though makes them more susceptible to ecological tragedy. However due to them living more forested, they have a much larger knowledge of medicine.
They are known as the cordial, magnanimous, and gregarious.
The Stellagenangan (Stell-ah-ge-nang-en) is a pool in an underwater cave which all clans share. It is on Penglihaclan’s territory, and to access it you must swim beneath the island Penglihaclan dwells next to, then up and into the cave. The Stellagenangan is a pool of water which permanently glistens and shimmers, despite there being no light in the cave– instead it produces the light. As an addition: the territory they live on is based in Indonesia , which I'll also be referencing for flora/fauna. I've gained a recent obsession with using words from other languages to form cat names (See: Korakifovia, Aimaorasi, Nychtaakefia), and with these cats I've given myself Indonesian, Filipino, Malay, Tamil, Greek, Latin or English. A lot of the words used for clan names and worldbuilding here are either Greek, Indonesian, or a fusion of the two.
