i believe i'll become a different person and a menace to my neighbors once my harmonica arrives, and it inspired me to write this. it's not a fanfic, but it's something after such a long break.
headcannons: arthur morgan x reader obsessed with playing harmonica
arthur saw the harmonica while he was in town one day. he thought it'll be a nice gift. he's never seen you play any instrument, but he thought why not. there was only so much you could do in camp.
let me tell you, the way it shocked him how elated you were to see the harmonica. literally, you couldn't have been happier even if he had proposed.
you had no idea how to play it, but how hard could it be? the moment your eyes widened when you took the instrument in your hands was when arthur knew the camp won't be getting much rest.
like i said–you had no idea how to play the harmonica. however, that did not stop you from trying. you spent hours, days even, on figuring the instrument out. i don't think i need to say after some time it started to annoy the gang.
arthur did try to distract you, going all romantic on you and all that. but it always ended like "okay, arthur, baby, i gotta go practice my harmonica now."
however, the real nightmare started once you figured out how the instrument works. then you started trying to play actual songs. it all started with oh my darling clementine. don't get me wrong, you got good with practice, but hearing the same song 100 times in one day would set anyone off.
arthur would literally have nightmares about you playing oh my darling clementine. this man isn't escaping the harmonica terror even in his sleep. and it's all his own fault, he should've never given it to you.

i feel like the only person who would never consider your harmonica obsession a problem would be sean. any time of the day and night, he's always down to have a drink accompanied by the sound of the harmonica.
jack likes it too. he finds it boring that you can play only one song, but you'll totally figure out more with time.

you always find it. you have practically developed a 6th sense that connects you with your harmonica. it's like a 1899 version of an airtag. no matter where he hides it, you find it every time. you subconscious just knows.

The doctors suggested that you should be on suicide watch and be put in the psychiatric ward for the mean time until they deemed you safe for the partial hospitalization program. While you were in the psychiatric ward the doctors suggested that you see a therapist and create a safety plan. So you asked if you could bring an instrument or at least a pen and paper to write with so you could write songs and journal.
It took some time but you got settled and your dad visited you every day. As the days went by you were writing and journaling. Things didn’t seem that bright right away but that was fine.

As the days passed and you talked to the doctors they eventually saw that you were ready for a partial hospitalization program. This program would have you visit the hospital and have a certain amount of hours you would need to spend in the classes at the hospital. These classes had other people in them and was a sort of rehab program for many different people. The classes were about a bunch of different topics that focused on mental health.

You learned a lot of different things like how different mental disorders affected the brain and its functions. All in all, it was very enlightening and helpful.

Apparently you read the students bad handwriting better than your dad. You decided to write feedback on some of the papers like ‘practice your handwriting on separate paper. Heroes need legible handwriting’ or you’d make small corrections and show them how to fix it for next time. Overall, grading papers with your dad was fun.

Some of the best things you learned were to just live day by day. You don’t have to worry about tomorrow and you don’t have to be hopeful about tomorrow either, it’s enough to just be curious about what’s next. You decided that you wanted to see your friends become heroes and that you had to see if Bakugou became the next number 1. That was enough for both you and your dad. And he promised that he would always be here for you and he’d never let you go.

It was another day in the studio for Harry. Mitch, Kid, Tyler and Jeff joining him. Harry and YN were in a strange place since they had bumped into each other in a club in LA, they were texting, calling and FaceTime at any opportunity they could but neither of them had brought up the conversation of what they were. 
“So how’s things with you and YN, man?” Kid asked Harry, as the group were scattered around the studio in his house in LA. The question usually made Harry nervous, his stomach turning at the words. But this time, he felt giddy and his lips threatening to smile. 
With all eyes on him, Harry shrugged his shoulders. He wasn’t entirely sure himself but it was looking good for them. They spoke every day, they weren’t putting pressure on themselves but just enjoying the simplicity of whatever was happening between them. 
“Ooo look at that smile….is that a blush?” Mitch began to tease, as he held his guitar in his hand, fingers playing with the strings. 
“Fuck off Mitch!” Harry laughed, still trying not to hide his coy smile. “It’s going good Kid.”.
“Should have seen them the other week in the club…whispering in the corner like a pair of teenagers!” Jeff continued to embarrass Harry, earning a playful eye roll. “I was just surprised they didn’t leave together!”. 
“I’m a respectful man Jeffrey”. Harry bit back, as he grabbed his leather notebook and pen from the black wooden table to the side of him. “Enough about my love life…we have an album to make!”. 
“The album so far is about YN!” Mitch called Harry out, beginning to fiddle with the strings on the instrument he held on his lap. “I bet you have another love song written in there.”.
“Mitch…kindly fuck off!” Harry laughed, the other men joining in, enjoying the banter they all shared. “But have you been snooping through my book?”.
“I just know you too well man!”. Mitch held his hands up in defence, a smug grin on his face. “What this one called? Take me back?”.
Harry’s face held a big grin. “Not quite…it’s called Adore You!”. He announced the new song he had been writing. 
The four men were intrigued to see what Harry had come up with, so far the songs written were hit and they knew this one would be too. “Adore You?”. Tyler questioned, wanting to know more. 
“Yeh…it’s like saying I love you but you’re not at that stage yet.”. Harry tried to explain the meaning behind the song. 
“Let’s hear it man!” Kid instructed, as he fiddled with a few buttons in front of him.

Every time Harry spoke to YN the words ‘I love you’ almost slipped out. He didn’t want to say them and YN feel she had to say them back, it’s not what he wanted. YN was always on Harry’s mind. Whatever he was doing or wherever he was, something always reminded him of her.

“Did ya have a good time in LA?” Niall asked YN as they sat in his living room, both huddled on his large grey sofa. 
YN smiled as she thought back to her little trip to LA, initially to see Louis and Freddie but still managed to bump into her favourite green eyed person. “I did…it was nice to see Lou and Freddie!”. 
Niall eyed her suspiciously. He’d seen that smile before and it was usually when she wasn’t telling the whole story. “You saw Harry didn’t you?”. 
“Of course I fookin’ did Ni…he’s everywhere I fookin’ go!”. YN answered honestly, crossing her leg over the other. “It’s like how can I forget about him when he’s there and looking so good”. 
“So are you back together? At least tell me you kissed?”. Niall begged. He was one of many that was rooting for them to get back together. 
“No but one more glass of wine and I think I would have.”. Niall’s loud laugh filled the room and a frustrated sigh. “He was a little tipsy too so it’s probably a good thing.”. 
“Did tipsy Harry confess his love? He was always a soppy drunk.”. He was eager to know any juicy details. 
“Not entirely, just kept saying how his Mum thinks I’m the best for him!”. YN’s heart was still full from the words Harry whispered in her ear that night at the club. 
“Aw Anne…what a woman!” Niall beamed. “I might have to call her, ask if she’ll help me play Cupid.”.
YN giggled. “You’ll be glad to know Harry’s coming over in a few days and he’s staying at the house.”. Niall raised his eyebrows suggestively. “And I’m going to tell him I want us to get back together!”. 
“FINALLY!”. Niall’s loud accent echoed through the room.

Like they had planned, Harry had flown over to London for a few days. They had enjoyed a snippet of their old lives. They woke up together, made breakfast together, walked Teddy, laughed at the silliest of things, even FaceTimed their families together. But with Harry flying back to America tomorrow YN was running out of time to confess her feelings. 
“I’ve uh..I’ve written a song and I’d like to play it for you.”. Harry’s voice surprised YN when he appeared with his guitar in hands. But she could sense he was nervous. 
YN was always Harry’s number one fan, so to hear something he had been working on was a privilege to her. “I’d love that!”. Her smile lit up her face.

Harry didn’t look up once from his fingers strumming the guitar strings. But the minute he finished singing, his eyes found YN’s and was pleasantly surprised to see them shining proudly. 
“That’s such a beautiful song.” YN complimented. She always knew Harry was charming with his words, but when he put them into a song she fell in love even more.
“A beautiful song for a beautiful girl.”. The words effortlessly slipped from Harry’s mouth. Smooth! 
“Just one thing.” YN worked hard to keep her smile at bay. Harry waited patiently wondering what was wrong with the song. “What if I want to say I love you?”.
A cheesy grin formed on both their faces, both relieved that after all this time they both felt the same. “Then I want to hear you say it for the rest of my life.”.
“I love you.” YN brought her hand up to cup his cheek, flutters filled her stomach as she longed to feel his soft lips against hers.
“I love you.”. Harry mimicked her hand and placed his on her cheeks, pulling himself closer to push his lips against her. 
Their lips moved slowly to start, both getting to know one another again. But once the familiarity kicked in, so did their eagerness. Their lips moved messily against each other, both fighting for more. Their hands wandered, Harry’s down to her hips, pull them closer and YN’s found themselves in his curls. 
Pulling apart to catch their breaths, their foreheads stayed connected. “I adore you!”.

There was a CD store nearby where they could listen to new released songs for free. Y/N thought Toge might be finding ways on how he can communicate without her having to use her power on him. After all, as much as he wanted to talk to her in his voice, there might be people watching them from afar. The Hanagawa's sometimes like to play dirty, he learned from his grandfather one time when he asked Toge about his opinion on his bride.
Y/N went to this one section that had old love songs, looking for something she could add to her playlist, when she saw this one CD that had an amusing song title. She played it, hoping it would be as nice as she expected, only for her to blush furiously upon hearing the lyrics. She had full mastery of the English language, so listening to this song was a piece of cake.
I just hope Inumaki-san doesn't understand this song.
Seeing how she had been intently listening to the song in her spot, Toge approached her, taking the other earphone and placing it in his ear to find out. Y/N instantly panicked, trying to stop him but Toge was already humming the instrumental tune.
"Shake shake," he mumbled. This song's good.
And it was already nearing the bridge when things changed, his eyes widening at the words he heard.

Unknowingly, Toge was staring down at Y/N, as the song finished, still holding her hand. He didn't care about the others in the background. To him, there was just Y/N and him in that CD store, listening to this one song about a girl confessing her feelings to a pretty boy. Toge wanted to assume she was referring to him, even though he doesn't think of himself as such.
"Pretty, pretty boy, I need you. Oh, my pretty, pretty boy, I do."
When Y/N looked up, Toge's stare on her was still there, making her swallow in nervousness. Heart racing in her chest, she took initiative, asking him, "Do you understand the song?"
The song already ended. Toge took out the earphone along with hers and put it back to where it was originally placed.
"Let me inside. Make me stay right beside you."
"Sha—"
Before he could reply, they heard a knock on the glass window, turning to see Gojo outside wearing a satisfied grin with Ijichi fidgeting in his spot like he should be punished for ruining a perfect moment right there. Toge sighed, still not letting her go as he took her outside with him to meet his teacher. He wanted to be with her still, but he had an agreement with Gojo. Besides, they'll still see each other this weekend.
"Did you have fun?" Gojo asked, staring at the pair and noticing the blush adorning Y/N's cheeks.
Something nice must have happened, he concluded.
Toge nodded, typing something on his phone and showing it to Y/N.
"Be safe back home. I'll see you on Saturday. Thanks for the chocolates."
Then Y/N noticed there seemed to be a message on the bottom so she scrolled it down, only to gasp.
"I can understand English, you know."
"You can join us if you like," Gojo offered, but Y/N shook her head.
"N-No need, sir. I'll just take the train. S-Someone might see..." she declined, imagining her family going ballistic at the thought that she and Toge disobeyed the rules of his clan.
"Okay. Let's go, Toge. Have a safe trip, young lady!"
And then, they left as Y/N stood there on her spot, trying to calm her beating heart.
"I can understand English, you know."
She was so gonna have dreams of him tonight.

The Beats Inside My Head

Hi! I'm going to run through my discography and add some details for you. This is my debut project, a 7 song mixtape I produced while I was coping with my grandfather's death. Before this I was making mashups on Soundtrap and learning how to to dubstep on Music Maker Jam. Originally, I was going to title these tracks after lines and give the project a different artwork but due to the events I changed up all of that. I'm sure why is understandable. There's not much to say here really sadly besides that this is a unique mix of electronic music and instrumental hiphop with an ambient feel to some of the sounds. It was fun learning to produce like this and I'd recommend Don't Go and Come Back.
However I will say it was a big change for me to release this project. At the time, I was working on being a YouTuber with one of my best friends, Daryan. We don't talk too much anymore but he designed the Gp on my first official piece of merchandise technically. It's not released or anything but I have it on in promo shots. I was making content about my interests at the time. Playing Minecraft, making custom Bionicles and giving them storylines, editing Pokemon AMVs, writing sketches, all the classic stuff. Unfortunately almost all of it is gone. One big collaboration AMV is still released, which I helped direct and edit for. It was a fun time but I decided to switch to music cause it became my biggest calling. I then proceded to delete all of my old videos, which honestly thinking back is heartbreaking. Were they cringe? 100%. Do I still want them up? Yes. Why? Well, it shows growth. Think, one day I'll be a bigger artist than I maybe ever imagined. If those videos were up, people from all over the world could see my true start, look at it then look at me then and say "hey, I'll try it!" Which is exactly why to this day I keep up my entire discography, unlike most annoying underground rappers who delete almost everything previously once a song blows up. There are a few AMV leftovers that I decided to keep up because I hadn't fully deleted them, check them out here!
But that's enough of that for now. In a way this album was me starting a legacy. I picked a sound, a style I liked and went for it. It really is easy to tell through this record alone what makes me different to the pears I surround myself with now. You can hear the DNA that is this album in my modern music, albeit way more defined and quality controlled. All I've done is improve in the last 8 years. Honestly typing that out just horrified me, I've been a content creator for a decade, around half my life, and a musician specifically for most of that too. It's crazy to think about but I like going back and listening to older records sometimes. Reminds me of where I came from.
With the above link you can listen to this tape. It's a swift listen, right around 18 and a half minutes. It's worth trying out, I still let some of the songs play when I listen to them. I want to shout out my grandfather too to end this. In a way I feel his death made me who I am, including the artist part of me. So I want to thank him for that, and may he rest in peace. I see him in my visions but honestly? I think about seeing him in the next place every single day.

Ok, Guys. Hear me out right. I have a vision (headcanon) but I'm kinda crazy about it so this will take some explaining.
I have been listening to this song for the past hour picking apart every piece of it so let me just rain down all my thoughts on you because this song is actually so genius!!!
-- GGG SPOILERS BELOW SO BE WARNED --
Every key part of this song represents one of the gods!! The most obvious ones are the organ for Ms. Mitternacht, the banjo and melody for Cobigail, and the same guitars that were in Thespius's theme being for, you guessed it, Thespius. But if you listen closer you can also hear this radar sound that's similar to Click Clack's morse code in his theme!!
This one is more of a stretch but the piano in the song could represent Bauhauzzo since that's the main instrument in his song. And then for Huzzle Mug the weird, not so voice thing that plays before Cobigail's part sounds a little like the weird, not so voice things in its theme!
And then the song has a little bit of Bizzyboy (and by proxy Inspekta) in it too, once near the beginning, and then more obviously at the end!!
See all of this is so important because in the final chase with Inspekta all the gods are still supporting him, and trying to sympathize with him while he's literally ending the woooorld. Cobigail literally says they're all a family!! And Bauhauzzo calls him son!! (I'm normal about the gods having a family dynamic. Found family forever)
When you picture the various elements of this song as the different characters, then it's almost like the song itself is calling out to Hector!!!!!!! LIKE THEY'RE ALL TELLING HIM IT'S OK!! sorry i'll calm down
I feel like the importance of Cobigail's song is sooo good too, because her whole story was about community, and reconnecting with those you love!! And Hector ultimately realizes the way to be remembered is through his community!!
And then the organ being one of the first instruments you hear is sooo good because Ms. Mitternatch was the first god ever, and to me, is the one that helps new gods with the growing pains that come with immortality. She would know best how to help him, and at the end it was here question that got Inspekta to realize what he was doing. "Is this how you want to be remembered"
Idk, I can't help but image each part like a line of dialog. Like the piano at 00:20 seconds feels like its giving a warning, and then when it comes back in its joining in Cobigal's melody like its saying it along with her. Like Bauhauzzo is supporting Cobigal's statement and reassuring Inspekta that he is so loved!!
Also can we talk about how whenever the radar/morse code sound plays, Thespius's guitar is always playing too. Gay ass. /so pos
ANYWAYS. Finally the song ends with the Bizzyboy's theme, Hector's non-godly family and uuuuuhggggg. The emotions that gives mee. It's like they collectively say "Don't worry boss, we got you" GRAAh. Cries everywhere. Can you tell I love found family.

But yeah, that's my very detailed thoughts on this one GGG song. The whole soundtrack is phenomenal just like everything else Louie Zong makes and I will forever be insane about his music and this game. (I wasn't in the top .01% of Louie Zong listeners in 2024 for nothin) Thank you for humoring me and if you've gotten this fair I'm giving you a this silly little guy to take care of :)
Treat him with kindness and just maybe he'll grant you your heart's desire.

Summary: Music boyfriend part 3
Warnings : none.
"Do it again. But how I showed you, " he whispered his voice low deep and gravely against your ear as he held the chord with calloused fingers against the fret board, his other hand loosening his grip on your wrist, the lack of contact cold and disappointing . He hums quietly each time you do it correctly though it was just simple strumming and he was doing all of the hard work with the chords, a small sense of pride lingered, you had technically played an instrument, albeit with a lot of help. Carl changes the chord every bar or so, a simple yet peaceful song, as the sound rings through the air, a small smile creeps across your face, feeling the air in the room change almost, different, but not uncomfortable. It's just barely palpable.
"See, look, you're great," he mutters through his voice, hints to him noticing this change as well.
Neither of you mentioned it. It doesn't need mentioning, Neither of you're ready to talk about it. Hell, you could be imagining it. This could be totally one-sided, and he wouldn't even know, aside from you suddenly tensing up. Which you only realise you've done when he's stepping back, whispering quietly, timidly , like he's convinced he's done something wrong. "Sorry." and now you're trying to remember if you said any of that out loud, which you doubt you did because your lips never moved or at least you don't remember them moving but who even remembers their lips moving . But then again, you suddenly did just tense up. Obviously, Carl's going to assume something wrong and who else to put the blame on then himself.
"oh um, I should probably go, I've got homework and you know how they get when its handed in late" you ramble, slipping his guitar from your shoulder, the heavy instrument hanging outstretched towards him, the neck cold in your hand, despite his being exactly where yours is just mere moments ago.
"Oh, yeah, of course," he stammers, slipping his instrument into its stand, brushing his fringe out of his eye, "I'll walk you out" He says bringing his thumb up too his lip, running the chipped black nail over the dry raised skin waiting for you to make the first move, little did he know you were doing the exact same. "Right. C'mon, " he whispered.
The floor boards creak as you and carl walk down the stairs. The sounds of michonne helping Judith and Rj with their homework rings from the kitchen, the echo of the news spreads through the downstairs, assumiably Rick watching it. Your shoes are in a small pile next to the door, Carl lingers on the bottom step, gripping the bannister, chewing his lip. The air is heavy and awkward and uncomfortable, unlike before.
"So, text me when you get home" he says, an obvious attempt at breaking the silence, you thought so at least, unless Carl really belived he'd fucked something up so bad you'd never ever talk to him again, which was stupid of course you were gonna text him, and you hoped he would text you... you nod, pushing the front door open, feeling the coolness of the handle in your palm, a vast difference from your nervous warmth.
You make it maybe 5 minutes down the road, each step thinking about what could've or couldn't have happened if you'd hadn't tensed up,when a familiar voice rings out from behind.
"Wait," it was clearly Carl's voice but it wasnt monotone like usual. It was higher than it should be filled with anxiety or even a hint of sadness,then the fast-paced footsteps of Carl as his beaten up converse hit the pathement . You turn to face him, pulling out the earbud you'd put in.
"did I fuck up? Please tell me because I don't know what I did and I can't fix it if I don't know so you've really gotta tell me" he rambles fast and stressed like he needs all the words out of his mouth and an answer now. His breathing is heaving from sprinting after you and his face is twisted into one of worry and hurt almost. He clearly couldn't let this slip he needed to know what he'd done. Carl didn't do anything you'd just read the room wrong, Fuck, you don't know if you even did read it wrong or if there was anything to be read in the first place.
"I just read the room wrong, Carl, and I'm sorry it's stupid. I didn't mean to make you think you've done something wrong it just ... I can't word it... you know, and that was confusing. Sorry..." You huff out, looking into his eyes. They're glossed over like he could've started crying at any moment, which you didn't expect him to be the type of person to do that..over something so small.
"Oh... Waitwhat- what do you mean you read the room wrong...?" He stammers, eyebrows losing their hurt and morphing into one of confusion. He clearly didn't feel the same, it was one hundred percent one sided and fuck you had to explain this too him.
"Just you know." You huff, trying your hardest to avoid the confession that you thought something else could've happened feeling your face heat up in embarrassment, warm pink spreading faintly across your face and the tips of your ears though hidden by your hair. 
"I don't know, actually," Carl blinks, theirs a hint of a smirk on his face like he knows exactly what you're going to say, but you can't even tell if you're imagining it and getting all nervous and awkward for nothing.
"Just you were so... close to me, and it was - it was confusing." You're eyes drop to his feet.
"Oh." He mutters, he looks unsure, like he's not sure what you're trying to get at exactly. And if what he's thinking is even right.
"So...see you soon..." he mumbles his thumb, slowing on his lip,
"Yeah, of course, see you soon..." You respond, slipping a ear bud back into your ear.

Art block be tough huh. Gonna be honest- Things are weird lately and that really impacts my ability to be original and creative, I don't even want to try anymore but being on break for so long makes me sick. On one hand I want to draw, on the other I can't and I don't feel great. 🫠
But aye who cares Abt all that stuff, I'll bounce back eventually. On another note- nothing has really been going on! But I've been so busy with secret Santa's and gifts umu.... I have so many ideas to make I swear I'll get back. And I may or may not be planning an animatic... I dunnnoooo we'll see how things go.

This is my oc aerva! She's just full of whimsy and tells stories. Nothing much to her honestly but she's cool. The song harpy hare is one I've associated with her and her stories so I just.... Remade the first few scenes of it with the rest of the ocs that appear in her lore. She has travelled all over the universe and made friends with her ghosts. She sings and acts and tells stories, but also plays instruments! She's just- *there* y'know? No real job or occupation. She isnt supposed to stay afterall. Always on the move.
Oh and- league of legends brainrot is back full swing. And also arcane happened. Wowza I really need to yap Abt headcanons and make art don't i....

Miles Kane, What It's Like to Play as a 'One Man Band'
We met Miles Kane as a founding member of important bands such as the Last Shadow Puppets with Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys and the Rascals. In the last several years, the Liverpudlian has been on a solitary path, as the name of his recent release suggests. We spoke with him shortly before his long-awaited return to Athens, at "Arch Club", on Friday 5/17.
How has your tour been going so far?
The concerts so far are incredible. I'm excited to play by myself, so I'm very happy. I think people are relating and connecting with the songs on my new record and it's taking me to places I haven't seen in a long time. And Greece is one of those places.
Can you tell us a few words about how you wrote "One Man Band", your most chart-topping album to date?
The album was created in Liverpool. We worked on it with my cousin James Skelly, who used to be a member of The Coral. We went back home and that gave birth to the desire to make a completely straight album. Writing songs is what I do best, not thinking too much, just talking about my feelings, my worries and how I want to be better. I guess life in general is what "One Man Band" is all about, stomping on some rock'n'roll, surf music. We had a clear idea of ​​what the album and its sound should be and we followed it to the end. This is also the reason why it is my favorite work of all that I have released so far. I feel very proud!
You started a great career by participating in various bands, such as Last Shadow Puppets. What motivated you to follow a more solitary path in recent years?
I've been doing solo stuff since I was 22 and I'm 38 now. I learned so much from the bands I was in, the Rascals and the Little Flames. Being on my own and free to work with whoever I want and do whatever I want – even if it sounds selfish – I think suits me best.
And what's the biggest lesson you've learned from playing as a "One Man Band"?
Not playing with a band is completely different for me. It's a huge challenge and not many could pull it off to be honest. It has made me improve my performance as a guitarist, as a singer and as a performer.
What is the most important experience from this journey?
It may sound cliche but I really had a lot of good times in my career. But I feel that who I am today as a person in life and on stage gives me new meaning and life. At all these smaller concerts where I meet new fans, I realize that the younger generation brings a whole different energy to it all. I feel that the phase I am in now is the happiest of my life. I feel more connected and hope to stay on this "path".
Are you excited to be back in Athens ("Arch Club", 5/17)?
Yes! I think I can't remember the last time I visited Greece because it's been so many years. I hope people come because I plan to give you the best night of your life.
What constitutes a successful live?
A great outfit, some "golden" dance moves and an audience! I need to feel like people want to be involved as much as I want to be. This is the only way we can go to the next level.
What are your plans for the future?
I'm trying to write something new and prepare a new album, but I'm having a hard time doing it right now. I don't want to stop the flow of things. I'm quite a simple person and I know what I like in life... Music. Maybe next year I'll be ready for a new release.
Is there another side project in the works?
We're not working on anything with Alex. [Turner], like Last Shadow Puppets. But I have this new little side project going on called The Evils and it's an instrumental surf idea. We'll see how this goes... [s.s. In the time between the interview and its publication, Kane along with Oscar Sholto Robertson and Dave Bardon released the E.P. "Miles Kane & The Evils".]

Part 1 ☆ Part 2
Funnily enough the karaoke machine never worked after Draco performed that one night, leaving Draco to fill in most nights. He became accustomed to the new style, so much so, that he stopped needing the sheet music. Matt had been singing so much and most nights he hadn't any intention to do so, people just started requesting songs? (Blaise wasn't even behind that, people just liked Matt's singing that much).
Seemingly out of nowhere yeah right, Seamus (some guy a year below the guys and not someone they ever regularly talked to) offered Enzo his old drum kit that he kept on campus that he was about to get rid of. Blaise of course made sure to be around knowing Enzo was sometimes too nice for his own good. Right he was when Enzo had started to decline with a half confused half polite look on his face. "Thanks mate, but I—" "Enzo a drum kit on campus that's really cool! I'll help you pick it up later. Nice of Seamus as well." "Oh right, yeah thanks Seamus... well we'll get it later I suppose." Seamus nodded, walking off and when Enzo had turned to ask Blaise what that was all about he was already gone. Enzo didn't tell anyone that he played the drums, he certainly didn't tell Seamus. (They didn't even know each other). Later that day Enzo and Blaise picked up the drum kit from Seamus and set it up in their own space. Blaise could already see the questions bubbling up in Enzo's face but before he could ask any Blaise asked him to play something. This lasted all night, Enzo would play (a lot of the songs being the ones Matt sang frequently) Blaise hiding his smirk as he casually mentioned "how cool that you and your brother are interested in music, plus when Draco plays on stage with him it's like you have most of a band." "Huh... yeah.” Blaise left soon after letting Enzo stew in his thoughts.
Everything was going according to plan he only had one problem :Theo. Theo was the one person Blaise wasn't going to be able to trick up front the way he did with the others. He knew Theo would be completely against the idea of the band, despite how much he would enjoy it. All he needed was a little push from the people he trusted most. Matt had been performing basically every night with Draco by his side most times too. Blaise could see how antsy he would get before just up and leaving the parties. He followed to confirm his suspicions, and sure enough Theo would race to his dorm to play along. Blaise knew exactly what he had to do. In the weeks that followed Blaise worked behind the scenes to make sure Theo was surrounded by music at almost all times.
Blaise had mentioned to Theo that Draco had wanted to send him a playlist of songs that he wanted to learn and that he wanted Theo's opinion. He was immediately suspicious. Why would he need his opinion?? Blaise dismissively waved his hand, "something about him not being sure the songs worked with each other. And he can't trust my opinion because I listen to everything" he said with faux exasperation. Oh, well that does sound like Draco “sure just tell him to send it and I'll give it a listen.”
“He wants me to send him a playlist?” Blaise doesn't look up from his phone before responding to his friend “yeah I dunno, he was talking about wanting to find some songs to practice on guitar,” Draco didn't even know Theo played guitar. “Why me?” Blaise rolled his eyes in that same faux exasperation from earlier “he said you have the freshest eyes or whatever, and you'd have some songs that went well with each other” “oh.. that makes sense I guess I'll put something together and send it to him.." Blaise just hummed non-committedly, trying to contain his giddiness. The next day Draco and Theo discussed the playlist, both asking the other to show each other on their respective instruments. They were both a little confused (Blaise almost shit himself) before they just dismissed it and started playing with one another.
The next pawn in his game was Enzo. He had been consistently watching Enzo practice with different songs and finally found the perfect opener “say enzo, do you ever play your own music?” Enzo turned bashful "Uh I don't really know how to go about that, I mean I've tried but I don't know..” he trailed off Blaise didn't let him dwell on it for long "you know Theo writes his own music for guitar you should ask him to show you his process." Enzo looked thoughtful for a moment "yeah I think I might, thanks mate."
Theo was a little confused as to how Enzo could have possibly known he writes his own music, but he looked so hopeful that he didn't have the heart to question him, and started going through his process anyway. Theo always came through for his friends and Blaise knew that.
Matt had been unknowingly helping Blaise's plan all along. Matt had been enjoying his own performances so much that the two started having their jam sessions almost every day Matt practiced singing more as well as his writing, while Theo helped with the guitar parts, also writing his own songs. Theo had never been more inspired.
By now the boys couldn't wait to play music either on their own or with each other. There was just one more piece of the puzzle.
There had been a rumor going around the university that they had a band, or that they were thinking of starting a band no one knows where it started (wink wink). There were at least five-six people coming up to each of them every day asking about their band and when they were going to perform. No one had a good answer though. But afterwards that's all they were thinking about, until they finally decided to talk about it. "So a band huh?” Enzo started off awkwardly. "Yeah how did that even start??!!" Blaise added. "I don't know but maybe they might be on to something? I mean I think it'd be kind of cool.” Matt said looking at the other boys. “Agreed, we could be great!” Enzo added enthusiastically, Blaise nodded, acting thoughtful. Draco looked hesitant, "but we don't even play that seriously, and besides I'm classically trained.” Blaise didn't let that sit for long. “Draco you've been playing all kinds of music for months with Matt, you've even written your own music,” Draco went bright red. “Besides people are quite literally requesting you lot to play, they already love us.” Draco seems satisfied, albeit a little begrudgingly and sinks back into his chair. They all turned to Theo, who had been anxiously searching for a lighter. He looked at all of them and sighed, lighting a cig taking the first drag slowly. “Fuck it I guess” they all cheered clapping him on the back. Blaise stood with a grin “all right looks like we're doing this, let's start a band -" he makes his way to the door mumbling "fuck sakes this was a lot of work,” returning to his normal volume “well, Matt already has our first song written—” "wha—no I don't?!” “Yeah yeah I read it last week Mattheo" rolling his eyes. “But...how?” “We'll practice later today cool?” He starts walking to the door hands in his pockets “but what will you play?" Enzo shouts from his seat, all boys turn to Blaise (except Matt who still looks aghast from Blaise's earlier confession). “Please, I've played bass for practically the whole time you lot have known me." He made it to the door before turning once again “by the way our first gig is in a week!” he rushes out before the cushion Theo throws makes impact.

A complete deconstruction: Louis Tomlinson is a terrible songwriter. Part III
So, we arrived at the last part.
Part I was a deconstruction of this idea that Louis wrote "most 1D songs" and "all the bangers." In part II we talked about how little involvement he had in terms of instrumentation, vocal engineering, melodies, etc, of his own albums. How he got given several songs that were already written, and of the other ones, they mostly came together from a melody someone else wrote.
So what's left in terms of songwriting? The one thing he pats himself on the back for, the one thing Liam gave him (partial) credit for, and the one thing he and hic co-writers agree he actually does participate in (participate is a key word): LYRICS.

To be fair, we did a little detour so I could analyze Harry's lyrics first and show you what I value and what I'm critical of in terms of songwriting. Keep in mind, opinion about art is meant to be subjective. This is my taste and my opinions, and you can absolutely disagree.
Initially, I intended to do the same breakdown I did for Harry but for Louis. I also intended to do four songs, and do the different points for each of them.
I had to give up halfway through. I analyzed Kill My Mind and We Made It (and I might post that elsewhere so you can see it). I also intended to do Bigger Than Me and Saturdays, but frankly, I'm simply not going to.
Why? It's just BORING. I'm sorry but it's boring as fuck. I do these posts because they entertain me. I LOVE talking about art more than anything. I love poetry, I love this shit. But Louis' lyrics suck the fun out of it. And no, I'm not being dramatic.
I found myself wanting to compare him with better artists who tackled the topics he did in a more interesting, more compelling way, just so I could stop reading his and analyze interesting art instead. I had to stop myself from inserting Adele, Olivia Rodrigo, The Weeknd, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, just to name a few.
I found myself irritated, rolling my eyes at my screen.
I had to take so many long breaks, to do literally anything else because the idea of having to analyze his lyrics for two more seconds pained me.
Here's the problem, and I'll break it down for you:
HE'S LAZY.
We're talking about an artist who:
Wears the same outfits and/or the same style of clothes over and over.
Doesn't seem to even brush his hair or do the most minimal effort to look better.
Takes zero care of himself, of his skin, of his hair, of his food intake and diet, of his health.
Doesn't even know his own lyrics.
Has had fourteen years to learn an instrument and to this day hasn't played one live for more than 15 seconds, despite calling himself a musician
Has regressed in terms of vocal capabilities. He could sing better at the beginning of his career with 1D than at the end. And he could sing better at the end of 1D than now.
Doesn't come up with his own melodies, or sometimes, even his own lyrics or concepts.
His idea of an image to project has been "Northern lad from Donny who smokes and curses and gives you the finger and Noel Gallagher and Arctic Monkeys and indie bands" for 8 years with literally zero nuance since then.
Even his photoshoots are lazy. All he does is smolder at the camera wearing some sort of sweatshirt and athletic pants.
His staging is ridiculous, three TVs showing his own zoomed in face in black and white.
He puts zero effort in his career, in his own person, in his own image. I'm 100% sure that I spent more time thinking about his lyrics in the past week than he ever did, and you can absolutely tell.
I tried looking at his rhyming schemes. I compared one song to another, I listened to them (it was painful) trying to find little assonances, and counting syllables to see if he mirrored anything, if he told any stories within them. ANYTHING.
I don't want to cherry pick the worst bits and present them here as a "see, he's bad!" I want my analysis to be fair.
But I simply can't put myself through that. Why?
I'm not going to tell you. I'm going to show you (a concept Louis has never heard of).
RHYMING SCHEMES, CADENCE
[Most times they're either A A B B or A B A B or some slight variation of that. I haven't found a single song where the cadence is thoughtful. To be fair, I'm taking the first verse of the first five songs off each album.]

I will commend the last syllable of "vertical" rhyming with "cold" and the first sentence of "trouble" as well. But the fact that the only reason he added "vertical" was to make that rhyme, because it adds nothing to the song "I ain't even woken up yet" already conveyed the same thought, kinda ruins it for me. IDK

I put the whole verse in just to be 100% fair. The last two sentences make sense by themselves, but the first three are nonsensical. He clearly just wanted to rhyme prison and mission, which don't even form a perfect rhyme (different consonants).

Not criticism, but commentary, and I'm being completely serious. This is quite worrisome to write in a song that's seemingly about substance abuse. Just saying.

It's just bad, juvenile. It's beginner levels. This man has been "writing" songs for over a decade, and he gets paid handsomely to do so.
I measure things by average pop song. He's significantly worse than that.

I would leave it as a funny quip, and be done with it, but I'll explain the problem with his simile/metaphor.
First of all, where did the walls come from? This is the first verse:

The chorus about the walls comes right after. Did she erect (hehe) Walls around herself when she left? Cause there's no other explanation as to where the walls came from. If the song was about him overcoming those walls and getting back with her, that'd be something that makes sense. Slightly overdone, but it'd make sense.
Well, it's not. The bridge seals it (we'll get that in a second). He's saying that because he overcame those walls, he became a better person. So did she erect (hehe) walls around... him?

Huh, little bit kidnappy. But let's roll with it. So he's using the metaphor of her, I guess building a wall around him, for some fuckass reason. A physical wall that he physically overpowers because he becomes taller and it's too short for him.
So how can a physical wall break your soul? The metaphor here would be switching from physical to spiritual. A metaphor that already doesn't make a ton of sense, now makes even less so.
The bridge, though....

What did she do to you? You haven't said. All you mention is her leaving after you hurt her. Doesn't seem like she did much of anything TO you. It seems like YOU did this. Or are you actually claiming that she trapped you inside short-ish walls? If this song is attempting to be sincere and not sarcastic (I think it's sincere?) then wouldn't it be better to say "for what you did FOR me"?
Why is it that "thank you"s are so often bittersweet?

I just think he misses a ton of opportunities to be a little more poetic that would very much elevate his lyrics.
Seeing your ex's face on someone else is a commonly used trope, which can become corny and cliché or poetic depending on how you communicate it. He chose corny and cliché.

This is a lyrically sound song. No notes. I don't necessarily agree with his view of things — I think he has a very narrow view of what succeeding in life can be, but it's a well-written song. Lyrically, sonically it's BORINNNNG.

Obviously, the point is that you're not going to solve your problems if you sleep on them (double meaning because "sleeping on" something means ignoring it). My point is that it's the type of analogy your Uber driver makes at 3 AM when he picks you up after a night out with friends, and that's the only context in which this analogy sounds thoughtful in any way.
The main problem I have with this brand of lyric of his is that he takes it seriously and so do his fans. Nobody thinks "You can't bribe the door on your way to the sky" is Nietzsche or treats it at such. Perhaps it touches you personally and that's valid, but it's just a cool song, at the end of the day.

I keep looking up the things he writes just to see if I'm missing some context or some popular British saying. I'm not British! British people are weird! But no. It's just that he's writing nonsense.
Writing nonsense is FINE if that's your stylistic choice. I LOOOOVE Oasis and they write some of the most nonsensical garbage you could ever imagine, but
1- The music fucking slaps
2- It's not meant to be read as diaristic or biographical. It's also not meant to be read as a straightforward story or whatever. It's meant to be flowery and a little esoteric.
Louis went on and on about honest lyrics, and how little he liked metaphors, and how he didn't like exactly the type of lyric Oasis tends to write (all while claiming that Oasis wrote the type of lyrics he does like, because he's fucking stupid — I made a whole post about that).
It doesn't even feel like he's trying to be metaphorical and weird or flowery here anyway? It just feels like he's stupid and says stupid shit that doesn't make sense, all the while actively trying to make sense.
Also, Oasis' nonsense is more poetic, but it has it's own worldbuilding and logic. It's not outright dumb like "building mountains," so there's that.

This is such a confusing metaphor. What do you mean by taking? Taking them off? Taking them with you? What do you mean "putting them where I won't see them?" Like, what does it mean in the context of this metaphor? What do your demons have to do with feeling alive?
Having demons is a commonplace about struggling with stuff (it can be mental health, family issues, personality issues, a number of different things). It doesn't typically have anything to do with "feeling alive" or not.
I'm not saying these lyrics are necessarily invalid? I just think he could've taken a little longer to develop this metaphor more and make it click better and easier. I'm having trouble interpreting what he's trying to say here, and I don't think it's lack of trying or being pedantic. I think I'm being pretty fair, and in all.

I'm not supposed to be Feelin' dirty cheap on Silver Street At quarter to three
Why not? I mean, the feeling dirty cheap I get. Yeah, you're not supposed to feel that way. That's sad. I'm sorry that happened, bro.
But why aren't you supposed to be on Silver Street at a quarter-to-three? For the record, Silver Street is a street in Doncaster that's lined with a bunch of clubs. If you're ver gonna be on Silver Street, it's likely to be at a quarter-to-three. And I see nothing wrong with going clubbing once in a while.
Is he trying to say that he's not supposed to feel dirty cheap on Silver Street because he's out clubbing? But then why add the time? Would it be okay to feel dirty cheap when out clubbing if it was a little earlier?
I am being pedantic now, btw. Why? Because there are ways to write this that make it clear that the problem is with how he feels while being out with friends. Incredible songwriters, such as what Louis and his fans claim he is, would do that. Not just use the first combination of words that rhymes and fits the metric.

What's hidden across his face? He never clarifies. Something is hidden. A feeling? A scar? A mole? A crowd can't hide across your face, and these sentences come right after the ones I just quoted, and are followed by:
In a haze I'm gazin' at the floor Somebody's got your trainers on The ones that you wore When you walked out the door
Still on the last two sentences: maybe he's trying to convey that him feeling dirty cheap is hidden across his face? If he's trying to do that, he failed.
The new bits I added now are alright. "In a haze I'm gazing at the floor, somebody's got your trainers on" is pretty good, actually. I personally would've said "the ones you had on when you walked out the door," instead of "the ones that you wore when you walked out the door." It just feels more sentence like. Because of the melody of this song, he tends to pause between sentences, so the way he wrote it feels like he's saying "somebody's got your trainers on, the ones that you wore." Which would be very redundant. What he's saying is that someone's wearing the exact shoes she wore when she left him.
Like I said, he suffers from chronic Not Taking The Time To Edit And Perfect His Lyrics. That's what I'm trying to point out here.
The feeling he's trying to convey is actually interesting and relatable, and the lyrics aren't necessarily BAD. They just aren't that good and can lend to confusion, especially given the cadence of the song. It wouldn't take a lot of work to make these lyrics be excellent and elevate the song, but alas...

This is presumably about beer. You get drunk on beer, not high, Louis. If he's trying to wordplay like he's high (as in, physically) on the "wave" then he needs to find a way to close the metaphor. He could've said "getting under the amber wave." When you're drunk, you're under the influence.
Going deep for the ones who do the same
He could've continued the metaphor with this if he had used "under" instead of "high." You're under, and you get deeper. If you're high, you're not deep, because high means up. Yes, I am being bitchy. Thank you for noticing. I'm fed up.
Not to mention this sentence is confusing. What does "going deep" even mean in this context?

Let's give him this one. This, that one sentence from Face The Music, and Fearless are the only lyrics of his that I find good so far.

That's the chorus. Small tangent.
In Keep Driving, the first verse lists things that seem random until you hit the chorus.
A small concern with how the engine sounds. We held darkness in withheld clouds. I would ask "Should we just keep driving?"
Essentially, the engine sounds like it's about to break, and the darkness in the clouds show that there's a storm coming, but he stubbornly asks if they should keep going regardless. The part about darkness and clouds seems to indicate "a storm coming" isn't just literally coming in the real world, but also in the relationship.
The analogy is, driving in a car that's about to break, but not doing anything about it, and finding yourself stuck in the middle of a storm because you didn't act when you should've, and comparing that to a relationship.
Anyway, it seems that whoever he's talking to is as stubborn as he is, because he continues to list things in the second verse, particularly "pancakes for two" and "I will always love you."
The singing (the way he sings) gets a little more intense in the bridge. And the things he lists get more unhinged. It starts off listing things that makes it sound like a road trip ("passports in footwells"), which makes the parallel meaning of the song take even more form and makes the other things he listed in the verses make more sense (sunglasses, cameras, breakfast items, etc).
Continuing with the bridge, there are little things that allude to the summer of 2020, "tea with cyborgs" is most likely a reference to doing zoom calls with your loved ones during quarantine, and "Riot America" to the Black Lives Matter movement, which hit its peak in May-June 2020. "Life hacks going viral in the bathroom" is a literal thing that happened during quarantine, particularly on TikTok.
There's allusions to sex ("choke her with a sea view" and "side boob") and to substances ("puff pass" "edibles" "cocaine" "wine glass").
Then "tootache", "bad move", "just act normal" show us that something is going wrong. Following the theme of the song, he ends the bridge with "it's all good, hey you" and then the outro just says "should we just keep driving", signaling that, despite the fact that there's clearly issues, they'll continue to ignore them, and closing the metaphor fully.
I think Keep Driving is a brilliant song, perfectly executed. And if Louis were writing something like that, I'd commend him. Music and poetry within it gives you so many possibilities. Not everything has to be narrative-driven.
The problem that I have is that I just cannot make sense of this song at all.
This is the second verse:

I'm sorry, but what is he talking about? There doesn't seem to be a thread that connects any of this.
Are we one or are we two? Are we me or are we you? Have we been all this before? Do you see what I see?
Is it a stream of consciousness type of thing? Cause I can get behind those too, but typically, the songs are, you know, better.
Like, I'm not gonna analyze this song super closely if that's what it's meant to be doing because I respect a stream of consciousness 100%, but I will judge the fact that the song is ass. If you're gonna do stream of consciousness you have to write a banger song.

What kind of weird ass, unnecessary metaphor even is this? Just not wanting to think of a better, more compelling way to word things and sticking with the first sentence that fits the metric.

Cool, simple song lyrically speaking. Nothing amazing and there are a couple of clichéd sayings, but it's fine! Lyrically one of his best alongside Fearless. It's a little boring musically speaking (better than Fearless, though), nothing to write home about, it could be better if he wasn't the one singing it. His voice really does ruin everything.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
I think I have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Louis is a lazy songwriter who doesn't put too much thought into his lyrics, which are the only part where he has any actual participation (going from what he and his collaborators have said about the process so far and the liner notes in his albums).
You can feel like the lyrics touch you or you feel represented by them or whatever, that's absolutely fine. I'm not judging that. What I'm judging is how apt of a songwriter he is technically speaking. I can't judge vibes. Vibes are personal.
Technically speaking, he's terrible. Like, downright one of the worst I've ever had the displeasure of listening to.

patrick stump & neal avron on tape notes podcast (12.15.23)
songwriting stuff, demos, lyric process, a bunch of things! they talk about the songs lftos, heaven iowa and smfsd.
long summary under the cut!
talked about how they sat outside “emo” because they leaned more towards hiphop/rnb, but also how they didn’t fit in the “pop” genre too and how they would be put on pop shows and “comparatively it was like slayer was playing” lmao “but we’re still a pop band!”
they experimented with reggae and 90s shoegaze and hardcore during the pandemic
they recorded most of stardust together in neal’s house :D at the beginning it was mostly just neal and patrick working together, at the end of the day everybody would come in to listen
patrick said he got “kinda obsessed” with streamlining pete’s lyrics in the chorus over the past few albums: “pete is very wordy. he has all these ideas that take up a lot of space.” and that their manager sat him down at lunch and said “don't do that. you guys used to ramble. why don't you ramble?” and lftos was the first song patrick put together after that convo
lftos writing process: patrick followed what he was feeling, and most of what he did in that song were things that years spent working in pop music had scared him off on doing.
the “every lover's got a little dagger in their hand” lyric tied it all together for patrick: “[i was] singing that line and EAGERLY emailing neal: listen to this!”
they play a little of the lftos demo (16:55). it's wild. VERY guitar-forward
“neal and i lost most of the demos for [folie a deux].” the burning of the library of alexandria. to me
talks about how the folie demos were infinitely stranger than the final versions, “psychedelic at times”
for stardust, they didn't really keep much of the demo stuff- patrick: “and my demos are pretty decent!”
lftos piano demo (21:35)
patrick: i want some drama. when i look back at our records, our best ones start off with a sense of melodrama
they play individual parts of the lftos instrumentation (31:25), andy's drums, pete's bass, joe's guitar. <3
bridges are patrick's favorite thing to write, because he just gets to play
patrick: "pete doesn't even send lyrics in lyric-form, he just sends words. and it's interesting when you see it- it's almost like one-liner after one-liner. and i'll just get an email of those, and then you kinda have to figure out what thematically goes together, what feels like the same song. but then i also try to keep lyrics together as much as possible, because i feel he's in a place where it does feel like one thought."
"when i read it, there's almost a passive thing where i just imagine what it sounds like to me. and [the lyrics for heaven, iowa] scared me a lot, because it felt kind of sparse, and i don't really like sparse- i don't really like singing by myself. [...] i don't like being so front and center, and i could tell that there was something really intimate about this song, and it was a big challenge for me."
everybody immediately went for the heaven, iowa demo- it's from the first stardust session and it took the longest to complete because patrick wasn't satisfied with just his voice over keys- "it was too naked."
patrick doesn't ask pete about lyrics because: "first off, he will not explain things. but second off, i think there is something to that. where i'll read his lyrics, and i'll interpret it one way, and years later i'll realize it's another way. there's so many double entendres that i've only gotten decades later, i'll be singing and go, 'OH it's a sex thing.'"
patrick really attaches to the story of a lyric, the craft of it, and then years later he'll be like "oh that was a HEAVY lyric. [and] pete must have felt that thing! i don't really question it when i'm writing- it's kindof unfair on him, like, should i check on him?"
heaven iowa instrumental demo/instruments isolated (53:30)
patrick would tell joe to "go nuts" on heaven, iowa!
neal talks about the ambient guitar pedal joe plays during heaven iowa and how it worked really well. patrick says this was the kind of thing that saved (the song).
patrick and andy double drummed at the same time in the studio for heaven iowa! <3
pete told joe to go "full slash" at the end of heaven iowa : )
patrick almost didn't send out the demo for the title track, smfsd! he was almost sure no one was going to like it, even though he liked it. but he sent it out, and it "kept surviving"
both patrick and neal brushed smfsd off because they assumed they "couldn't do that", but pete really pushed for it, which surprised patrick.
so much for stardust demo (1:25:07) patrick plays drums on it, sloppily. which he freely admits to lol. it is quite sloppy indeed
patrick: "i'm a drummer too, but andy and i are very different drummers. and it's very cool translating our things between each other, because he comes from metal (...) and i'm more a funk drummer."
lotsa joe layering in heaven iowa and smfsd : )
it was patrick's idea to do a lyrical callback in lftos/smfsd, and pete was hesitant about it. but patrick pushed for it, becasuse it made sense as "story beats"- "it's like 'empire strikes back'!"
patrick doesn't like to putz around the studio that much, he just wants to be recording something.
patrick: "my routine [during the writing of the album] was just to make it to the studio as on time as i can be- i have adhd, it's very difficult- but i'd be there within 10-15 minutes of when i was supposed to be there, and then we'd just work through it."
patrick's advice: FROM ELTON JOHN: when you find your producer that understands you, stick with them. patrick: "and that was on a record we didn't do with neal, and i remember thinking [makes unsure noises]..." also prioritize in the short-term, what's important. take a step back.
neal's advice: if music is your passion, do it, and do it all the time
patrick was afraid people wouldn't like him "rambling" in songs, even though it was honest and natural to him. he was terrified of doing it again, thinking people wouldn't like it. but people did! "don't subvert yourself too much."
the host asks for them to choose a stardust song to close out the podcast, and patrick chooses what a time to be alive :)
