spoilers for tekken 8's story and character endings under the tag! read at your own disgression. these are just my thoughts on it. for transparancy, i likely wont actually be able to purchase and play the game for the foreseeable future so i just watched a playthrough of it instead
so ill start with what i liked. i really liked that, unlike tekken 7, everyone on the roster to some degree was in the main story. i like that a good healthy handful of them even tried their best to aid the efforts against kazuya. it was really nice for me especially to see shaheen get to be cool and heroic. i dont want to hear ANYONE say hes boring ever again, you hear me?
i like the character endings as well, theyre so fun and lighthearted. i liked zafinas and shaheens the most. i surprisingly likes kazuyas and juns too, it makes me think he actually DOES love his wife to an extent. not enough for me to like him as a character unfortunately though lol.
i LOVED angel jin at the end. his design imo was phenominal. i love that they crossed an ethereal, otherwordly monster with a knight and gave him golden angel wings too. it was so visually captivating, i will be looking out for a character sheet to see what distinct features i can point out. i just love that they made an angel design so unique, there was nothing predictable or boring about it.
now things i didnt like
first off, i am SO mad that they killed off zafina AND claudio so early on. they were the two i was most interested to see!! i wanted to see their dynamic together!! but at least zafinas death made a little more sense than claudios. his death did absolutely nothing for the story! i thought maybe that hyper-charged up bolt he shot was going to slowly deteriorate kazuya overtime and weaken him enough that jin could take him one on one or something but NOPE! even zafina i felt didnt need to die. was it ever explained that her life force was connected to azazel? wouldnt it make more sense if she was free to be of MORE use now that azazel isnt holding her back? i never thought i would write tekken fanfiction but they have forced my hand. justice for my faves please </3
they did nothing with leo finding his mother and that makes me sad. its cool we got his dad though, he seems like a cool guy. i wouldnt mind his dad being a new fighter.
steve just kind of dropping the whole thing with nina also upsets me because like if you were going to make the ending to that whole thing so lackluster, why introduce it at all? nina clearly doesnt care and steve just kinda carries on, what was the point? why put nina through such a traumatizing experience of having a child against her will for such little payout?
lastly, i just really could not give two rats toenails about reina im sorry 😭 like visually shes boring. her personality is boring AND annoying. and then they try and make us want more by showing us this heihachi child is ALSO a devil. like i am so tired of the mishima saga that i dont care enough to wonder who her mother is. there are SO many loose ends that havent been tied up yet, i dont want a potential tekken 9 to focus on the mishimas anymore i am on my hands and knees begging

My crazy batshit Tekken 8 guest character prediction
Gentlemen, ladies, non binary folks, and all others… I gather you here today to tell you something that I have been thinking long and hard about.
As you may know, Tekken 8 is out. And as you may know, there is planned dlc. And, like in Tekken 7, Tekken 8’s dlc will have dlc characters.
We have no idea who he or she will be, some say I will be from another fighting game, like Akira from VF or Terry from fatal fury… some say it will be from a popular tv show or movie, such as young Sheldon, or breaking bad… others even say I could be tifa from final fantasy. All these theories, these outcomes, could probibly happen.
But today, I give you something insane, the most chaotic rout Tekken could go when it comes to guest stars. The most batshit insane crossover ever.
Sonic the Hedgehog will be in Tekken 8.
I’m not fucking joking, if you REALLY think about it, and use all of your brain cells, it’s so conceptually STUPID, it could ACTUALLY HAPPEN.
Case in point:
1. IM RIGHT YOUR WRONG- I-I-mean, sonic is really popular right now
Like, really REALLY popular right now, practically in a renaissance right now? With the recent release of sonic frontiers and sonic superstars, the HUGE popularity of idw, and like, the entirety of sonic prime, it just makes sense, sega right now is just like “oh my god, they’re just gunna buy ANYTHING ARE THEY?!??”
And so, ya know what sega sees when sonic is in Tekken? Dollar signs. This reveal will probibly make the fandom CRAZY and profits would go OVER THE ROOF at sega HQ.
“Erm but actually…” you may say “namco says that all the dlc characters are going to have a special character episode in the story, meaning that sonic wouldn’t make sense lore wise, it would be batshit crazy!! uhhhhhhhhh”
Case in point:
2. Tekken is already batshit crazy
Akuma from street fighter is canon to the lore of Tekken. HE IS IN THE STORY MODE OF TEKKEN 7!!! PLUS, this is a fighting game with
1. A boxing kangaroo
2. A bear
3. A space ninja
4. Negan from the WALKING DEAD
5. GEESE FROM FATAL FURY
6. NOCTIS LUCIOUS CAILUM FROM FINAL FUCKING FANTASY
So of COURSE they’re gunna find a way to put sonic in Tekken lore, of course they’re going to do that, AKUMA WAS IN TEKKEN 7 FOR FRICKS SAKE
AAAAAA
Case in point
3. It will boost Tekken’s popularity and bring a whole new audience to the game
I tell you, A LOT of people are going to freak out if he gets in the game, Twitter would shit down for a week, the entire Tekken yt community will have THOUSANDS of videos about sonic, the sonic fandom would go into a chaotic frenzy, everything would go crazy, because SONIC THE BLUE FASTEST HEDGEHOG WILL BE IN TEKKEN FUCKING 8!!!!!
In conclusion, Sonic will be in Tekken 8, I’m right your wrong and no I am not ok thank you for asking. :3

guilty gear strive feels like its receiving a good deal of criticism lately gameplay and design-wise, and the net code problem definitely doesn't help. with new games like sf6, mk12, and tekken 8 on the horizon, fighting games are taking steps forward as a medium. do you think guilty gear will motivate to evolve via patches and new content moving forward, or will it end up falling by the wayside?
As I personally see it, from my point of view that is, Guilty Gear Strive was built by an entirely new generation of game developers compared to past games, so you can't really make a strong comparison of this "version" of GG to previous iterations without taking that in to consideration.
In some ways, this version of GG is highly experimental compared to past iterations.
Guilty Gear Xrd, even with its limitations still BASED ITSELF on previous games, not just in frame data, but in design and mechanics.
It built itself off what existed, so it had a firm foundation to go on.
For Strive, while there are some things that are similar to previous titles, has thrown out the idea of "building up on what came before" and instead making something that is both new, simple, and engaging for those who are unaccustomed to fighting games.
In terms of emphasis, the game does well to show what can be done to make a game easy to understand AND play…
What it lacks in complexity and single-player engagement are still issues they are working the kinks out of, as they have said in previous Developer's Backyard entries and Interviews (see the GG Interviews and Developer's Backyard tags for details).
In terms of netcode and network issues… there were a lot of unforeseen events that occurred, but they are doing their best to mitigate this for the sake of all players who support their game.
In some ways, this game was FAR better managed than previous titles for that very reason… so even if there are netcode problems, the fact they are managing it instead of struggling with crunch and delaying things (or ignoring issues altogether), PROVES they still have a potentially capable team to work with on future content.
I want to remind you all the importance your voice has in impacting the growth of Strive as a game.
The role fans have to play in all this is to PROVIDE CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK and remind them what sort of games we are aiming for!
This isn't just a game meant solely for Tournaments of E-sports... it's a game meant to engage both new and old fans alike...
It's also a cross-platform crossplay access game... so the intent is that everyone can access the game no matter their platform of choice (but of course, that comes with technical hurdles they themselves have to overcome).
From my point of view, I still believe this game has the potential for growth and development... rebalance of the roster not being the LEAST of what they are capable of!
There's lots of things they plan to add... and although I cannot see what the future holds, at the very least, this game SEEKS to be a LOT of things that we've hoped for from previous GG titles...
Again, in terms of single player content, I don't think it's that fair to compare it to games like Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 11, which had much longer development cycles AND RESOURCES to work from.
ARC System Works is actually much smaller than other big name fighting game developers, believe it or not... so just getting as far as they have is a REALLY BIG DEAL.
Even for upcoming hopeful games like Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 12, you can't really predict how they will handle single-player features, as even Tekken 7 struggled to give much in the way of content to players who don't play competitively online "as much".
At the very least, Guilty Gear Strive has ALREADY made a name for itself as a game that can be recognized by mainstream gamers the world over... and that is saying something that no previous GG title accomplished...
So you could say that this Guilty Gear title STRIVES to reach the Sky, in terms of the limits of what a GG game is capable of...
And if you're gonna reach for the Sky... it should be HIGH...

So, here are my (very unserious) TK8 Predictions: - Kazuya dies. Finally, thank god. - Jun is back, but she dies again? - Jin lives, but DJ dies (how does that happen? we will find out) - Xiao and Hwoarang marry Jin. Bless the fucking lord. - Lucky Chloe goes bankrupt, Eddy stops being her personal clown and escapes (good for him!) - Raven and Master Raven have a spiderman meme™ moment. - Heihachi comes back. SOMEHOW. - Lars and Alisa adopt a cyborg child( a Tamagotchi?) - Miharu finds out she's a Kazama (Asuka's twin!) - The world goes to shit - Harada ruins more characters for funsies
LOL. these are p funny. Given that it's Tekken, I can see some of them ACTUALLY happening - albeit, with a little tweaking.
Kazuya "dies" but will probs make a return in the next game anyway because he makes them too much money.
Jun "dies" with Kazuya, maybe something happens that gets her killed, but helps purifies Kazuya's soul - thus, the return of Romantic Kazuya.
Tekken 7 had ALREADY HEAVILY implied that Jin had successfully defeated DJ as in the epilogue, he is shown being able to control the devil's power easily (whilst throughout the story - Jin clearly wasn't in control, and DJ had taken over a few times to get away from the UN soldiers, and Jin later couldn’t recall what had happened.) Now HOW they’re going to explain why Jin can control the devil powers... I dunno. I thought it was why he was in a coma for so long in TK7, fighting DJ. But it might be something different.
Xiao and Hwoarang should marry Jin, but instead it's just gonna be Jin and Xiao and they'll have at least one or two children, one of which will be MC in next game - Hwoarang is the dad's suspiciously close friend, though.
Lucky Chloe goes bankrupt because of the CEO of her company is a literal devil man terrorizing people in the streets. Eddy is freed, but nothing about his anger against Kazuya for the last 25 years gets resolved.
Raven and Master Raven absolutely does have the spiderman meme™️ moment, HOWEVER - only one will be playable.
Heihachi coming back would be so funny at this point. But likely, he'll return in "spirit" as something in Jin's psyche (or Kazuya's) or he's in a flashback so they have another excuse to use Young Heihachi
No, it's gonna continue the anime trend of the world actually being better and all the characters get hetero marry and have children and the children will take over the next game after a timeskip and then the world goes to shit again. Plot twist: Julia and Ganryu end up having a kid together as well.
So many more characters are gonna be comic relief, missing, retconned to hell, or totally inconsistent.

evo announcements: predictions & wishlist
A pile of stuff always gets announced at EVO! It's all very hype, really!
We're almost certainly getting characters for SF6 and kharacters for MK1. That's basically a given. Riot will be there with a demo for Project L, so we'll probably get an update there too! Maybe some new characters?
The really interesting stuff, though, is... what else could happen?
I'm clearly interested in the Tekken happenings; we'll almost certainly get a few characters announced for T8.
I mean, you know which ones I want. Most plausibly, I want Armor King, Anna, Feng and Zafina in about that order. Angel is a possibility too, or if not her then perhaps a new Mishima? Very likely, but less my style, we'll get trailers for Alisa, Steve, and Yoshimitsu.
As a stretch goal, we might get a Tekken 8 release date, conceivably. Early to mid 2024 perhaps, after the TWT is over?
Ideally, we'll get an update on the last-ish Tekken 7 patch. They're supposedly still working on the netcode and accessibility features.
There was a rumour at some point that there would be a Soulcalibur Re-release of some sort? We'll see! I want it! I want like every 3D game to get re-released for modern platforms with good netplay. Gimme Toshinden. Gimme Bloody Roar. Gimme Bushido Blade. Gimme all the 3D MK games, MK4 to the PS2 trilogy to MK vs DCU. These are all pretty unlikely.
I mean, I still want something for Virtua Fighter, anything. VF is sick but SEGA is trying their best to avoid doing anything reasonable with VF.
...
But you know the elephants in the room. This is the big Mahvel Revival. UMVC3 is a main-stage title, again, with 1355 entrants. And they're having a Killer Instinct invitational tournament. What if there was anything at all about Mahvel or Killer Instinct? Either of those would be shockingly rad.
... anyway.
What do you want announced? What do you expect to be announced?
Have fun, play fighting games <3

arslan ash is at this guys house playing some north american players and. i will revise this soon im sure. but as it stands he is bad at tekken 8 speedkicks 3-0d him on HWOARANG his azucena is getting beat by glaciatings PAUL

I wish that Xiaoyu and Jin's voiceovers, Maaya Sakamoto and Isshin Chiba, sang a duet together about their characters' intense feelings of love towards each other. 😈😘🖤😘😈

fighting the mirror image of the Tekken player I used to be and bodying him 7 games straight. He had 7x my experience. want to tell him the perfect defense is functional not idealistic. His timidity gives me infinite space to control the match and when I have that, he has everything to be timid about: it becomes a loop. He goes on the offensive when forced, which makes his offense predictable.
I am going to try and stream this game today

I must say that beating story mode has really put a spin on treasure battle. I don’t know how to feel about that honestly. I guess it’s good because I do tend to just play Miguel since I don’t want to forget his move list. I suppose something else I could do if I start getting bored is try online battles again. I mean being honest though, I could never throw away Tekken 7. Even with all my beetching it is absolutely my game of choice (I play it more than the sims. Probably because there’s actual gameplay and alpha textures and the men are FECKEN HOT (well, most of them. Not down for the furries, the dlc guys, Marduk, Heihachi or Kazuya))
Biggest thing that’s changed in how I play is I’m not afraid to charge at my opponent. It doesn’t always work but it’s better than making myself predictable by always waiting on the opponent’s move. (Currently working on doing more Ciclon Slaps instead of the standard Boot in face I tend to end my charges with and they chain better.) who knew a balance of offense and defense was needed in a fighting game? (You’d think a 6’8” slab of grade A Spanish beef marinated in booze and anger would win a match on pure offense)
God… have I finally ascended to the next level of gamer?… if it weren’t for the fact that I am seriously considering a job in a post office I’d dye my hair pink and order cat ear headphones. Maybe even a DD breast plate (might get one of those anyway. The closest I can get to manifesting the big boobs energy I know I have) though I could just get a pink wig. I now know where to find ones that are comfortable and look somewhat believable.

My Memories of Gaming in 1998
For many of us gamers, we’ve been playing games since our childhoods. If you were like me, most of your gaming years started around the early 90s. Most of the games during that time are what’s well-known, popular or mainstream nowadays. It doesn’t hurt looking back at the past of gaming and reliving those moments, either through memory or actually playing those games that came out during those times.
One time period that seems to always be mentioned is 1998. While I’m sure not a lot of people remember 1998, especially me since I was still a kid then and didn’t really care about what was going on in the world, a lot of gamers remember it as being a prominent year in gaming. This is mostly due to the fact that the games released then were sequels/prequels, innovative and influential or just commercially successful titles. While you can see a list of them here on Wikipedia, I can tell you here a little about some of the games from that year I’ve experienced. I will say, majority of these games were experienced after 1998 and were only a small play sessions or demos.
Marvel vs Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes
Tumblr media
Pretty much my last time playing fighters in arcades. Mostly due to the fact that arcades were hard to come by and the closest one at the time was a 30 minute drive to the mall. Either way, seeing Ryu and MegaMan fight Wolverine and Spiderman was amazing. I wasn’t really good at the game though. I would probably win one match before either the next round or if a bigger kid came and beat me in the next match. It was one of the first games I came across that had crossover characters, which later became a feature I love in fighting games today.
Tekken 3
Tumblr media
This version was just a demo of the game my cousins had, but a demo we played non-stop. The only characters available were Xiaoyu and Eddie in the demo, but once learning Eddie’s spinning kicks, we would have matches to see who was better as him. His stage music has been embedded in my mind, I’m glad NamcoBandai added the Jukebox mode in Tekken 7 (only on PS4, though) just to hear it again.
Gex: Enter the Gecko
I’ve been seeing commercials and booths advertising this game so much, I thought he was a game character I just never heard of, and there were a lot of them at the time. I got a hold of the game as a rental and played it. The cartridge I had wasn’t completed, so I continued. After not getting far, I started a new game from scratch. Needless to say, I wasn’t too interested in the game. The gecko mechanics were pretty good, but I think I had problems with attacking enemies. I remember smiling at some of the quips from Gex, but looking back at them now, they still make me smile, but only how lame they are now.
Metal Gear Solid
Tumblr media
A game series that I would have never would thought would stick with me. The demo for Metal Gear Solid was so intense for me, that it took me years to actually man up and play the demo in its entirety. I remember my cousin and I were scared to get past the front entrance to the base because we didn’t know how to get pass the guards without getting caught. Hearing the screams and cries of Colonel Campbell, Dr. Naomi and Mei Ling after Snake dies were a bit too dramatic for me. Granted, this was a huge jump from Mario and Sonic games, but the interesting story, realism of the world and dramatic acting was too much for me to not know what the game was all about. After playing the demo, I wanted to play the game, but didn’t had a memory card at the time and Metal Gear Solid 2 was already out. I did finally played it, but it was the Twin Snakes version.
NASCAR 99 & Madden NFL
These were random sports games my father bought. NASCAR was bought one day after work. Madden was a Christmas gift. I wasn’t really interested in sports titles, mostly because I was not good at them. I guess it was his way to get me into sports and get me from playing games so much. I didn’t really play them much with anyone either. For some reason, Madden 97 was still fun on the PSOne.
NFL Blitz
Tumblr media
Then this bad boy came out and I was hooked! You telling me I can play a football game in arcade style AND body slam my opponents when I’m mad at a play?! Anyways, the arcade style of the game make someone like me who didn’t understand football at the time learn it quickly. Finding and printing out cheat codes for the game to put in (Headless mode, anyone?) were great, especially rushing to see who can put in the most codes (they even worked in the demo, too!). Plus, the music made each game more like an epic battle was about to go down in the stadium. One of my greatest moments was using the game to predict the Super Bowl XXXIII game between Falcons and Broncos by finally beating my cousin in the game with the Broncos. This game was the hypest shit when it came out and I only wish it continued better than it did.
Spyro the Dragon
I remember when my sister and I finally got ourselves a PSOne, it came with a Playstation Underground disc. It had some games, including Spyro the Dragon, but also promoting the game by having a behind the scenes of the development of the game. I didn’t understand most of it as a kid, but it was cool to see a look into making a game like that. The game’s music always stuck with me, especially the calming sounds of Dark Hollow and the rocking beat of the Title Screen that played in the Overworld in the demo.

Once these games came out in the US in 1998, I wasn’t too sure on what to make of it. It as a GameBoy game, which was already interesting, but it was an RPG style game that came out around the time of the virtual pet craze, which was starting to become oversaturated to me already. I guess it being an actual video game was enough to spark my interest. I only got a chance to play a bit of it thanks to a friend, but it was interesting to see a world were I can just go around, collect, fight and trade monsters and raise them to become stronger. I finally got the game a few years later, but by then Gold and Silver was about to come out.

Another random game I got which I honestly don’t remember if it was for my birthday or Christmas. Regardless, this was my first experience with a military style shooter. Needless to say, this game was only loaded probably three times. The game was too realistic for me to understand how to play and PC gaming was still new to me. I thought it was just a cheap selling PC game, but I’m now learning it was a pretty popular series that had its starting in 1998.

The demo of this game was so fun, I can’t think of any time where we would not turn on the PSOne and not play it. I remember really wanting the game when it finally came out, but unfortunately we couldn’t get it. It was interesting to see the game’s dark and gloomy atmosphere. Paired with the weird motion animation common in PSOne games back then and it made some of the cutscenes and enemy movements kinda scary. I was looking forward to playing the remake, but after hearing some of the reviews, I think I will not spoil it and just find the original and play it instead.
Crash Bandicoot: Warped
Tumblr media
Another demo my cousins and I had that we played numerous times. The cool think it we both had different versions of the demo. One of our disc had the level were Crash is underwater, while the other had the level were Coco is riding the tiger on top of the Great Wall. We never got the game despite playing the demos so much. Usually because by then, my cousin’s PSOne was starting to wear out and we were losing interest in it.
There are other games I’ve eventually played years after their release, but after playing them and learning how popular they are and when they came out, its easy to see how 1998 could be seen as a prominent year in gaming. Its more prominent to me personally because this was a year were most of my favorite games have came out. Some of these games became important to me personally in other ways. I don’t think I would ever have a year like that in my life gaming wise, but I would like to experience more of these games from 1998.
Were there any games you played that came out in 1998 you enjoyed? What was your experience playing it?

One of my buddies, who streams a lot and is an authority on stuff, made the following predictions:
it's not Tekken 8 yet
new season of Tekken 7, S5 with no new characters except perhaps Mokujin
also a new game that's a crossover title, containing possibly SoulCalibur and/or DOA characters?? (this seems like a super bold and specific and perhaps unlikely prediction, but gimme Nyotengu and Ivy and Anna in the same game, he thirsted :-O )
I won't say who it was unless this turns out to be true-ish.

Three years later and this game is STILL trash. Beat it in one night. Tekken 7 is the epitome of wasted hype. After the moderately successful Tekken Tag 2 and Tekken 6, you would think this game would be great. You would also be wrong. This game was so bad I literally had to replay the entire series to see if this was the worst one. It was. By far. Even Tekken 4 does a better job of storytelling and character story building. The gameplay however, is sharper than its ever been otherwise it would've been sold a long time ago. The combo system and beginner tweaks appeal to both newcomers and veteran fans. However the long time fans (me) will be highly disappointed at the predictable and downright silly journalistic story mode if you can call it that. Each character not mentioned in the main story literally has one battle in their story mode. That's it. Tekken 7 gets a: 2 out of 5. #gamereview #gamers #tekken7 #tekken #fightinggames #xplay
