Para poder abordar nuestro proyecto y adaptarlo lo máximo posible al entorno donde nos ubicamos, hemos decidido investigar sobre los tipos de edificaciones existentes en las Salinas de Andalucía. Las casas salineras.

Es necesario realizar este estudio previo de cara a plantear nuestro "EcoLodge SALTERRA", con el objetivo de adaptar las diferentes estancias lo máximo posible a las salinas/marismas sin desvirtuar el enclave protegido.

Por ello se plantea el panel publicado a modo resumen, donde se hace una recopilación de los datos más relevantes de las casas salineras.

Estas casas, debido a la complejidad de la ubicación de las salinas, ya que normalmente ubicaban sobre un suelo de fango, inestable y sometido a la acción constante de las mareas, un lugar de difícil acceso hasta el punto que, los salineros preferían vivir en la salina que tener que desplazarse cada día hasta su lugar de trabajo desde la cercana población.

Ello obligaba a adaptar la vivienda a las duras condiciones que impone la marisma: contrafuertes y muros de grosor exagerado para estabilizarla, fachadas blancas de cal para soportar el calor, orientadas de modo que pudieran evitar en lo posible a los vientos dominantes, con un aljibe para captar el agua dulce de la lluvia, bien escaso en estos lares. También las cuadrillas de trabajo al completo vivían en la salina durante la temporada de la “cosecha” y, además, debían servir para guardar los aperos, dar acogida a los animales y todo lo necesario para el trabajo, de modo que la casa salinera era vivienda, taller, cuadra, pajar, nave de aperos…una casa completamente surgida de la necesidad.

La mayoría de estas viviendas fueron construidas durante los siglos XVIII y XIX, momento en que se produce un alza en la producción de sal. Debido a que son unas construcciones realizadas para una determinada función, al desaparecer la explotación de la sal propiamente dicha arrastra con ella también al deterioro y abandono de las casas-taller de las salinas. Por ello están condenadas a la degradación y el abandono en el que se encuentran actualmente y a la desaparición física de muchas de ellas.

En función de la tipología constructiva encontramos dos tipos:

- Casas bloque: Representan a la mayoría y suelen ser edificaciones de reducidas dimensiones, cuya organización y distribución está dispuesta bajo una misma estructura de cubierta.

- Casas patio: Son menos frecuentes y se parecen a la tipología de vivienda propia de esta zona. Suelen estar organizadas en torno a un patio central que suele ocupar diferentes puntos según la edificación y suelen ser de mayores dimensiones que las casas bloque.

En cuanto a la materialidad de estas casas salineras, encontramos que la mayoría de ellas están formadas por anchos muros de carga de mampostería, realizados con material autóctono y barato de la zona.

Como hemos comentado anteriormente, solían estar recubiertas de cal para proteger la piedra y reflejar la luz solar, aunque este revestimiento ha desparecido en gran parte de ellas a día de hoy. Los huecos de estas edificaciones los encontramos conformados por dinteles de madera y jambas de ladrillos planos que conforman el contorno de puertas y ventanas.

En cuanto a la cubierta, la mayoría tiene un sistema a dos aguas recubierto por tejas cerámicas y una estructura de madera. De la misma forma, los techos o forjados entre plantas de estas casas suelen ser unidireccionales de madera.

Aether’s lab-grown diamonds couldn’t compete with India, says CEO

Indian diamond growers have made it challenging for other synthetic diamond producers to compete in the marketplace, says Ryan Shearman (pictured), who co-founded Aether Diamonds in 2018 and led the brand.

Last week, lab-grown e-tailer Grown Brilliance announced it had acquired Aether Diamonds (corporate parent: Impossible Diamond) along with another e-tailer, Clean Origin (corporate parent: Great Heights), for undisclosed amounts.

Aether offers a truly unique product—its diamonds are created using carbon captured from the air. Shearman notes that demand for Aether’s diamonds exceeded the company’s production capacity—the challenge, he says, lies in the fact that manufacturing takes place in the United States, unlike in low-labor-cost India.

“The margin pressure felt by producers compared to retail was significant,” Shearman tells JCK. “We were selling a product at a premium price. A U.S.-based lab simply can’t compete with India, and, in reality, the material has to be sent to India for cutting anyway.”

Shearman claims that because Grown Brilliance is vertically integrated, Aether is in good hands with them. According to Tejas Shah, CEO of Grown Brilliance, the company has 260 of its own diamond-making equipment in addition to several diamond suppliers, but it is not owned by any growers. 

While some in the industry doubt the extent to which environmental concerns influence consumers, Shearman thinks his unique approach is a major selling factor.

Not A Hotel Setouchi

Como su nombre lo indica, Not A Hotel Setouchi no es un hotel tradicional. En cambio, es un desarrollo de tres villas en la remota Isla Sagishima en Japón que combina el diseño escandinavo y japonés para una estancia privada y centrada en la sostenibilidad.

Diseñadas por Bjarke Ingels Group, las villas reciben sus nombres según las vistas, cada una determinada por su ubicación en la isla: la villa más alta, 360, ofrece vistas completas; 180, en la punta, tiene vistas panorámicas de lado a lado; y 270, se encuentra en un punto intermedio. Cada una está construida con tierra apisonada, como es costumbre en la zona, y cuenta con suelos de pizarra natural Genshoseki, baños tradicionales japoneses, fogatas al aire libre, piscinas infinitas climatizadas y techos cubiertos de tejas solares.
