Sea Monsters Rising: How Young Eco-Warriors Are Making Waves
In a world where environmental challenges can seem overwhelming, sometimes it takes the clear-eyed perspective of youth to remind us what's truly at stake. Our newest t-shirt design , "Sea Monsters," isn't just a fashion statement—it's a movement inspired by the passionate young voices leading the charge in ocean conservation.
From Imagination to Activism
When we first conceptualised this design, we wanted to create something that captured both the whimsy of childhood imagination and the serious reality of our ocean crisis. The result? A hauntingly beautiful sea monster squid emerging from swirling plastic waste—a creature both fantastical and symbolic of our oceans' current plight.
What makes this design truly special, however, is its origin story. We collaborated with a group of young ocean advocates aged 9-15 who provided input throughout the creative process. Their unique perspective—equal parts hope, concern, and determination—shaped every aspect of this design.
"Kids see the ocean differently," explains our lead designer. "They don't just see an environmental issue—they see a living world full of creatures they've come to love through books, films, and their own experiences. They personalise the crisis in a way that's both heartbreaking and incredibly motivating."
The Plastic Reality
The statistics are staggering. Each year, approximately 8 million metric tons of plastic waste enters our oceans. By 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in the sea by weight. These facts aren't lost on today's youth, who are inheriting both our planet and our problems.
During our design workshops, many of our young collaborators shared stories of beach cleanups they'd participated in and marine animals they'd seen affected by pollution. One 12-year-old participant noted, "The plastic doesn't go away just because we stop looking at it. It becomes sea monsters that hurt real animals."
This poignant observation became the catalyst for our design concept—transforming discarded waste into a visual metaphor that's impossible to ignore.
Wearable Activism
The "Sea Monsters" tee represents a new kind of environmental activism—one that starts conversations wherever you go. Made from 100% sustainably sourced cotton and printed with water-based inks, it's not just the message that's eco-friendly.
Each shirt is produced on demand to eliminate waste, and a portion of every sale goes directly to youth-led ocean conservation initiatives. It's our way of ensuring that the voices behind this design continue to be amplified in meaningful ways.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Perhaps the most powerful aspect of this project has been witnessing young people recognize their own ability to create change. As one 14-year-old contributor put it, "Adults sometimes think we don't understand what's happening to the planet, but we do. We just haven't given up hope yet."
That sentiment—equal parts awareness and optimism—is exactly what we've tried to capture in the "Sea Monsters" design. It acknowledges the gravity of our environmental crisis while refusing to surrender to despair.
When you wear this tee, you're not just sporting a creative graphic—you're carrying forward the hopes of a generation that still believes in their power to protect our oceans. You're helping transform concern into conversation, and conversation into action.
Join the Movement
The "Sea Monsters" tee is more than just an addition to your wardrobe—it's an invitation to be part of something bigger. Whether you're a young eco-warrior yourself or someone who supports their vision for a cleaner, healthier planet, this shirt lets you wear your values with pride.
Available in both youth and adult sizes, it's designed to start conversations across generations about the future of our oceans. Because protecting our marine ecosystems isn't just about saving sea creatures—it's about preserving the wonder and possibility that every child deserves to inherit.
Shop the "Sea Monsters" tee today at subcultrd.com and help turn the tide on ocean pollution, one conversation at a time.

The "Sea Monsters" tee is printed on demand using eco-friendly processes and materials. A portion of all proceeds supports youth-led marine conservation initiatives.

Greetings!
Hello everyone and welcome to my blog/website. My name is Erika Pen and I’m a senior in high school. I am a big social activist and believe in kindness and helping others. I plan to major in psychology in college with the hopes of adding social work and/or asian studies or peace studies as my minor. I hope to become a child psychologist and help break the barriers about mental health taboo in the Asian communities. Below are some fun( or well what I find fun) facts about me and what I like to do!
I’m one of the student founders of the national project, We Are America. We Are America works with teachers around the country to help redefine what it means to be American. We then have students published their own stories on what makes them America.
I drink too much bubble tea. It doesn’t help that I work part-time at a bubble tea cafe.
I’m captain of the color guard team at my high school. I currently spin on both flag and saber and plan to spin in college with an independent winter guard.
I have horrible eyesight. My left eye is halfway to being legally blind(whoops).
I love making new friends! I hope to make lots of new friends with this blog. Feel free to send me a message if you want to chat!
My hopes for this blog is to raise awareness in the communities about the problems we face today. I want to connect with others who have similar ideas in the hopes of discovering ways to change the world we live in. As a young Asian American woman, I believe in raising awareness about the struggles we face from day to day. I believe in breaking barriers and creating new solutions. I hope this blog will help others like me to connect and come together. Until nexts times, Cheers!

I try to stay out of politics but this too offensive. If we want to be heard we need to work against violence not for it. We need to be innovative. We need a public program where people can report officers with violent or racist tendencies before things escalate to these extreme levels. No more George Floyd's! Training, reporting, justice, and mental health support needs to be available for all now! Criminals in places of authority such as police forces need to be stopped, Right now. Justice for ALL (Americans, Canadians, and Global citizens) Starts with change. Peace, and order are needed right now!!! #blacklivesmatter #alllivesmatter #georgefloyd # blackouttuesday #rightsforall #change # nomoreviolence #2020 #teenactivist #icantbreathe #pridemonth #nichememes # unitedwestand #landofthefreeandthebrave #endpolicebrutality (at Alberta) https://www.instagram.com/p/CA8ewgchahs/?igshid=ucfq4qgowusg

#SayIt #WithMe 🔊 ... Emma Gonzalez was #SetUp it was They #FakedIt she #DIDNOT rip the #USConstitution #AllLies A #DoctoredAnimation of #ParklandShootingSurvivor #EmmaGonzalez ripping the #USConstitution in two went #viral on #socialmedia after Gab, a so-called “ #freespeech #socialnetwork” that features the controversial #PepeTheFrog as its account image, posted it on Twitter. The #Tweet gathered 1,500 #retweets and 2,900 likes and only after a few hours did #Gab specify the #FakeAnimation was “obviously a #parody /#satire The #OriginalAnimation is from a #TeenVogueStory released March 23 featuring Gonzalez and other #TeenActivists , as #Allure & #TeenVogue #CommunicationsDirector #JaimeEllynMarsanico confirmed to #CNN . It shows Gonzalez ripping a #TargetPoster , NOT the #Constitution . #TeenVogue chief content officer, #PhillipPicardi , also set the record straight on Twitter: “The fact that we even have to clarify this is proof of how democracy continues to be fractured by people who manipulate and fabricate the truth,” Picardi said. The most popular debunk was from #DonaldMoynihan , a #professor at the #UniversityOfWisconsin at #Madison , who said: “Just a sample of what #NRAsupporters are doing to teenagers who survived a massacre (real picture on the right)”: However, this series of debunks did not stop the fake image from going viral, crossing platforms, websites and blogs. For example, sactor #AdamBaldwin , who has a #verifiedaccount on #Twitter , tweeted the #DoctoredAnimation to his 270,000 followers. The tweet was still online at the time of writing. Over the past few weeks, Gonzalez has become the face of the #NeverAgain movement that flooded Washington, D.C. and other American cities over the weekend for the #MarchforOurLives #rally . Her iconic speech in Washington, which included a prolonged moment of silence, is the latest in a series of appearances that made the 18-year-old a popular household name since a gunman killed 17 people on February 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. But her #GunControl #Activism also attracted a smear campaign and personal attacks from conservative figures and far-right fringes. A #SmearCampaign
