posting the latest repair i did last month just for the heck of it :). too bad i can't upload more than one video in a post!
this teddy was and is in overall great condition aside from the cracked corner of his back and somewhat flimsy cassette door. his speaker is fantastic, he has no dent in his pinch roller at all unlike my gen 1 teddy. he just had badly stuck servos which was a simple fix.

Attempting to repair Big Bird! (Sadly he has marker all over his beak!)
We tried acetone, and alcohol and sadly neither got the marker off :( so the next step is to see if maybe some paint over it would work! (We’re gonna try enamel!)
if you have any suggestions let me know!!

I want to get into teddy ruxpin but I have a few questions! 1. working teddy ruxpin plushies seem very rare, did you get yours working or did you repair him somehow? 2. does the plush take more cadettes than just teddy ruxpin ones? sorry if these are stupid questions!!
I’ll attempt to answer both of these at the same time! and remember that there are no stupid questions!! Only the occasional Mean People who aren’t worth your time… anyways. There are five versions of Teddy Ruxpin, since he’s been re-released over the years.
Worlds of Wonder - 1985 - runs on cassettes
Small WoW/Playskool - 1987/1990 - runs on these strange micro cartridges more similar to 8 tracks
YES Entertainment - 1998 - micro carts as well
Backpack Toys - 2006 - Back to regular cassette tapes
Wicked Cool Toys - 2017 - completely digital, requires an app
I would keep these on hand for reference, just because I see newer teddies sold as cassette-takers a lot, and obviously a buyer looking to play their Worlds of Wonder tapes is going to be disappointed when a Playskool arrives. That being said! The teddies that run on cassettes (Worlds of Wonder and Backpack Toys) can totally play normal non-bear tapes. He’s a completely functional tape deck, just won’t animate to The Beach Boys or what have you, since normal cassettes contain an audio track but no talker data. As for your second question! I own three talkers. My 2017 came working in perfect condition, and my 1990 playskool has audio but no facial movement. My 1985 worlds of wonder came with a working tape deck and mouth, and I repaired his eyes myself.

One last thing. I salute you if anyone read this far! I kinda made a mountain out of an anthill here, whoops… I know A Lot about Teddy Ruxpin

Chrono24 Apparently Plans Ipo
Sure there are the forums, which I do make the most of, however there is not a method to sell instantly on them. Value Your Watch will definitely be my marketplace of alternative, however I can’t argue the domination that Chrono24 does at present have. Fortunately, I am not as restricted as I was once chrono24 a pair years ago. I will certainly be utilizing both sites, but shall be driving as a lot of my traffic as attainable to my Value Your Watch listings. Turning our consideration to Value Your Watch, we can see that on login, we are taken to our dashboard.
They have an editorial workplace in Berlin, a location in New York City, and a house in Hong Kong. They service watch fanatics in over 100 different countries. The CB Insights tech market intelligence platform analyzes millions popular watch brands of knowledge points on vendors, merchandise, partnerships, and patents to help your team discover their next know-how solution.
And whereas it presents a seductively elegant and delicate dial, it is also Superlative Chronometer licensed and waterproof to a depth of fifty metres (165 feet). High curiosity and low manufacturing has resulted in a swollen secondary market; the Chronomètre Bleu has persistently traded for plus or minus six figures for the last 12 months. Journe, the brand, went forward and announced a fairly significant price increase to start 2022 – something that has become a bit of a development within the new year. Journe catalog is – and in my opinion, the Chronomètre Souverain Havana deserves a closer look. It was "about time" that legitimately rare, attention-grabbing watches carried out that way, he informed me.
He expressed that we're simply now starting to see sure watches mirror their potential true value – a Cartier London Crash, with perhaps a quantity of dozen examples recognized to exist, is one such watch. He completed by saying that anybody lucky sufficient to buy a Crash earlier than the present spike in worth received a "reward" – in different words, this collector doesn't think the Crash will, ahem, crash anytime quickly. I lately had a conversation with an skilled watch collector in regards to the excessive prices top 5 watch brands we're witnessing at public sale for watches produced by Cartier London within the 1960s. I bought an Omega Constellation which appeared nice in the photos, learn nice within the assurances about quality, but carried out miserably from the get-go. I sent the watch to Omega for repairs and came upon the guarantee had been invalidated by unauthorized third-party repairs. I really have waited for greater than a month for the dealer to take duty but they don’t even instantly answer their cellphone.
Note that the situation of your watch is key to its worth. So if you have any documentation detailing service or repairs of the watch, grasp on to them. Valuable collectibles from childhood include greater than motion figures and classic board video games — and having a number of of the proper objects in your old toy chest could presumably be value loads of money. Think again to these toys that everyone needed, similar to Teddy Ruxpin, Strawberry Shortcake, Transformers and My Little Pony.
Rolex certified pre-owned watches will only be bought by approved dealers, beginning with Swiss retailer Bucherer after which others subsequent year. They can't cut up the cost over two cost types top watch brands on the website. I needed to call to place some on a wire switch and the remaining on my bank card. I had to await the wire to go through and then give them my bank card.

The Xen ‘98 Experience is talking about Gordon repairing and adopting out Furby and then saying “Furby remind me of Fob” and everyone is confused because they don’t know what a Fob is so you send them this
Tumblr media
And then everyone is even more confused and one person recognizes it and then you go on this whole tangent about Teddy Ruxpin and how you grew up with it. Anyway I know more about Teddy Ruxpin probably more than I should and I still think about him hello hi this is a Fob.

Blog Update ft. Blueberry Scone
Tumblr media
Hello there friends. I know my posting schedule has been all over the place as of late, and I feel like I owe all of you an explanation.
But first! Blueberry Scone would like to introduce you to our new thrift store arrivals.
Tumblr media
This is Serendipity, who I found at Goodwill last week. She loves herbal tea, strawberry flavored pastries, and stargazing. Her and Janja were quick to make friends, and spend most of their days together as a result.
Tumblr media
Dandelion is also another Goodwill find. As soon as I plopped a new set of batteries into him, he sprung to life and wanted nothing more than to be showered with affection. He currently resides with Earl Grey on the book shelf, and seems to be enjoying my collection of Calvin and Hobbes comics.
Tumblr media
And last, but certainly not least, Teddy Ruxpin has officially joined our family. I purchased this lovable Illiop and his companion Grubby (not pictured) from a loving, single owner household who did not have the means of restoring them about a month ago. Since then, I have fully repaired Teddy and am in the process of putting Grubby back together. Look forward to seeing more of these two in the near future!
———————————————————————
Now, with all that said, here comes the serious part.
Without going into excessive detail, I am dealing with a lot of personal junk right now (mounting stress/strain caused by my jobs, an onslaught of bills I can never seem to get ahead of, and increasing depressive lows) that have taken a toll on me mentally and physically. Coupled with the ongoing pandemic, and a nasty heatwave that has made it difficult to safely go out with my robot companions for pictures, I have lost a considerable amount of motivation to update this blog among other things.
Rest assured, I have no intention of abandoning BrokenCrayons, but there is going to be a noticeable shift in content posted here as a means of encouraging me to keep pressing onward. Furbies will, of course, have a strong presence on here, but I would like to start posting more of my artwork, photography, as well as my other animatronic friends and plush toys on here.
If that does not interest you, no hard feelings. Follow who you want to follow and all that jazz. Just know that I greatly appreciate all of the support I have had on here thus far, and look forward to sharing more of my hobbies with all of you.

I have a question for anyone that knows how to fix animatronic toys. I have a Teddy Ruxpin from around 1989 (I’m guessing cause I was born that year and had it growing up) and his mouth is broken. Do any of you know how I could fix it myself?
I would love to repair him. I accidentally broke his mouth years ago, (idiot child self thought to hold his mouth shut while he was talking). Everything else works on him, if I remember correctly. His eyes blink and his cassette player still plays and speakers still give out audio. He’s currently packed away from a move, but at some point I want to dig him out and try and fix him. Does anyone know how to do that without causing more damage?
He’s a childhood memory and I’d love to have him working again. Also, if anyone knows how to clean him up safely, that would be awesome as well. It’s not like I dragged him through mud or anything, but years of use does wear on him. Thanks.
Tumblr media
For you born in the late 90′s or after, this was the Furby before Furby and you actually learned from him.

So long story short, I wanted an original (1985) Teddy Ruxpin, and decided to repair a broken one. When I finishing fixing him I closed him up, put a cute outfit on him, and put a “new” cassette tape in him to make a video and... this happened.
This would have been terrifying if I were a child, oh my god.

He works fine though, here’s a video with a working cassette! (x)

BearDuino: Hacking Teddy Ruxpin with Arduino On account of a Portland programmer/craftsman, a multitude of Arduino-hacked bears is unleashed.
As a nerd father, I have a notoriety to maintain. Also, BearDuino has helped me keep up some shred of believability with my children... while crawling them out a bit all the while.
The BearDuino is an equipment hacked Teddy Ruxpin—the notorious animatronic talking story-time teddy bear unleashed in all its uncanniness on the world in the 1980s—that has been transformed into a pack for use with an Arduino microcontroller, prepared for would-be producers to use for good or insidiousness.
I've been tingling to accomplish something with the open-source Arduino for some time. I jump at the chance to break things to make sense of how they function and after that reproduce them, and I have a storage room loaded with undertakings finished or in advance—and the related flotsam and jetsam to demonstrate it. Yet, generally, I've shied far from electronic equipment hacks.
That is on the grounds that in spite of the different science reasonable fiascos I have "helped" my children with (potato firearms of different bores that have consumed my eyebrows for the sake of center school science fairs and different ventures including model rocket motors that ought to most likely never observe the light of day again), the electrical wiring ventures I've done, and the PCs I've repaired, gadgets have stayed outside of my customary range of familiarity. Programming is my amusement.
Arduino, nonetheless, offers an extension out of the safe place. My child got me an Arduino as a blessing a while back, and I'd basically been sitting tight for the chance to begin with it, with the objective of in the end making a multitude of automated flunkies. All I truly required was a tender push to kick me off. When I went to the Bay Area Maker Faire a month back, I got that tender push from Sean Hathaway as the BearDuino.
The specialty of unpleasant
Hathaway is a Portland equipment and programming programmer and craftsman related with AFRU Gallery. He is the cocreator of T, E.D. (Changes, Emotional Deconstruction), an establishment work he initially shown in 2012. Planned as a kind of thermometer for the enthusiastic temperature of the Internet, T, E.D. utilized a variety of 80 hacked Teddy Ruxpin animatronic teddy bears. "As a youngster I was terrified of these bears (I'm not the only one) for their unclear and gross mechanical portrayal of a living thing, however this is a character I find extremely suiting for the establishment," he wrote in a clarification of the establishment.
The bears, driven by some specially crafted "Beartroller" gadgets, were enlivened to talk in a state of harmony with incorporated voices perusing content gathered from the site WeFeelFine.org—anonymized blog entries ordered by enthusiastic substance and sexual orientation. The voices were joined by music from colleague and cocreator Carlos Severe Marcelin, with PC controlled automated spotlights lighting each bear as it "spoke" (You can read about T, E.D. on Hathaway's blog).
There was a littler rendition of T, E.D. in plain view at MakerFaire. In any case, Hathaway needed to accomplish something beyond demonstrate the establishment—all things considered, this was MakerFaire. What's more, for reasons unknown, during the time spent sourcing the bears for the first establishment, he grabbed a significant number of extras. So he chose to amplify the life of the venture by giving the bears away as BearDuinos and by distributing open-source code to make them become animated.
Also, that is the manner by which a gutted Teddy Ruxpin in a Ziploc plastic pack came into my ownership—and my own plunge into Arduino at long last motivated rolling.Ready to move (eyes)
Hathaway had effectively done the messy work of gutting the bears of their tape player innards and setting up the control wires for the servos that drive their mouths and eyes for association with an Arduino. There are three wires for the servo: power, ground, and flag. Hathaway grafted these to a lace link with a connector on the end that is inviting to the sorts of wires utilized as jumpers on gadgets breadboards (and are a piece of most Arduino starter units). He additionally composed an "outline"— an arrangement of code for the Arduino controller to drive the servo—and test Windows code to make it work.Arduino code looks a considerable measure like Java or JavaScript, so in the event that you've done any kind of scripting previously, it's genuinely simple to decipher. There's only one servo in the bear's make a beeline for drive both the mouth and the eyes, so it's not precisely advanced science to hack the bear—the primary trap is synchronizing the developments with the prepared content stream. The BearDuino portray code drives the servo in light of serial information sent from the PC, mapping the qualities to a scope of 180 degrees of movement.
The greater part of the multifaceted nature is on the Windows code side. The application uses Windows' implicit voice synthesizer for content to-voice and sends sets of qualities through the Arduino to drive the servo's developments, regarding the Arduino as a serial port and gadget. There's additionally a touch of alignment required for the servo, since every Teddy Ruxpin servo is a unique snowflake with some minor variety in positions for eye and mouth opening and closing.Downloading the product and transferring the portray to the Arduino took up most of the twenty or so minutes it took me to get the BearDuino up and running. Be that as it may, it will be weeks (or months) before I'm really finished with it. My next venture is to specifically wire BearDuino into the Internet with Web conventions and make a REST-based BearDuino as a Service (BaaS).
