Beta Reader Needed
Hello! I don’t have a lot of followers, so I’m not sure how many people will actually see this (and I would deeply appreciate any signal boost), but I am looking for a beta reader for what was my contribution to the Mystrade Advent Calendar. The story is less than 5,000 words, post-Season 4, and it’s slight angst with a happy ending.
I’d love feedback on readability and grammar. I’m also an American, so any britpicking would also be helpful. Thank you!

Update: To Capture Light
My contribution for the Mystrade Advent Calendar got some real slash and burn editing done tonight. The wee one went to bed and I just got it out and plowed through it on paper. Can’t wait to make the changes when I get another chance. Feels good!

I have family visiting for the week. I so badly want to go back and edit the ficlet for the Mystrade Advent Calendar, but between my guests and my infant daughter I have not been able to do it!!! Argh!!!

Update: Fic Idea #5
Thanks to the Mystrade Advent Calendar, I have started a new fic. Since it can’t go over 5,000 words, I can write it in one week and spend a couple weeks in edits and then submit.
If this idea stays below 5,000, that is. 😬
Still working on Fic Idea #1, a few hundred words each day while working on this short story. Fic Idea #1 clocks in around 40,000 words so far. I’m getting a new chromebook this week and then I’m downloading Scrivener. I’ve been writing in GoogleDocs so that I can access it from anywhere, but I think I can just put finished chapters (plus the notes and ideas and written future scenes) into Scrivener and keep the current chapter on Gdocs.
So, that’s it for the update! Wish I had more time to work on my other fics, but I’m doing what I can!

I did the thing!
Mycroft Holmes has sequestered himself in a desolate part of the world as he struggles with the consequences of the events at Sherrinford. He is confronted with the unexpected when a visitor appears on his doorstep.
Read on AO3.

Update: Fic Idea #5
I left the first draft of my short story alone for three days, without even looking at it. Today, during lunch, I locked myself into my office and read it aloud. I didn’t make any real edits, just marked where things didn’t sound quite right. It was a helpful exercise, and I feel like my story is really going somewhere.
Next, I’m looking at structure. I think it’s a bit heavy on the beginning hook, and not heavy enough on the ending payoff. We’ll see how that part of the editing process goes.
Btw, I’m using the steps on editing from an article called “How to Edit Your Story Like a New York Publisher.” Has some very helpful suggestions!
