Facebook is one of the goliaths of the internet and today it’s buying another giant: GIFs. Well, not all GIFs, but one of the largest GIF-making and sharing websites on the web, GIPHY.com. The reported price of the deal is $400 million and Facebook says they plan to integrate the service with Instagram and other apps. If you use GIFs on the internet there’s a very good chance you’ve used GIPHY, even if not intentionally. Facebook says 50% of all GIPHY’s traffic was already coming from its apps, half of which from Instagram alone. GIPHY will be a part of the Instagram team and the hope is to make it easier to send GIFs and stickers with Stories and direct messages. The GIPHY API, which Facebook itself has been using in its products for years, will continue to exist for developers and partners. Many popular services rely on GIPHY’s API, including Twitter and Reddit. The company says GIPHY will retain its branding and continue to operate its library and creative tools for the community – at least for the time being. All of that sounds well and good for now, but Facebook is obviously buying GIPHY for a reason. It’s hard to see the service continue forever without any negative side effects for Facebook’s direct competitors who also rely on GIPHY for GIFs. What do you think about this news? . . . . #techies_page_facebook #techies_page_instagram #techies_page #techies #tech #technology #facebook #instagram #gif #giphy #api #deal #stickers #stories #messages #gifs #usa https://www.instagram.com/p/CAPOknMgZN7/?igshid=1pkyh14ytw9gs

Of course, the new design isn't universally liked, and it even has issues with text readability in a few dark mode screens. But that's the price of any early release. If you don't get prompted by Facebook's website to try the new look, there doesn't seem to be any workaround to force-trigger it just yet. The new Facebook web UI with the dark theme seems to be rolling out widely.  In a news post, Facebook discusses its planning and research efforts that went in to designing the new interface. Not everyone's been a fan of these changes, but at least we can hear Facebook out on why it thinks this new look is superior. . . . . #techies_page_facebook #techies_page #techies #tech #technology #facebook #facebookweb #web #interface #darkmode #update #australia #austria #indonesia #india #china #japan #jordan #vietnam #canada #iceland #sweden #switzerland #usa #uk #germany #rome #romania #france #ghana https://www.instagram.com/p/B_91jKBgBqk/?igshid=gwjml480jxep

It was back in 2018 when Facebook announced its plans to monetize WhatsApp by selling ads, a decision that didn’t settle well with the founders of WhatsApp. However, the Wall Street Journal reported earlier this year that the tech giant has dropped the idea of selling ads on WhatsApp. But, it seems that the plan hasn’t been completely shunned yet as there have been reports that Facebook still plans on putting ads in WhatsApp. As first reported by The Information, Facebook will go ahead with its plan around ads in WhatsApp in the future. But, the company first plans on unifying all its messaging apps - Facebook messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The advertising model would be based on using the phone numbers from WhatsApp and then match those WhatsApp accounts to Facebook accounts. This would help them with effective ad targeting for the users. Facebook had reportedly hired a team to handle the monetization process, however, the team had been disbanded and all the undergoing work had been deleted from WhatsApp’s code, revealed the WSJ report. This had also been confirmed by WABetaInfo, a site popular for posting regular updates around WhatsApp, who mentioned that everything around Status ads were removed from WhatsApp with beta version 2.19.356. But, those plans have been picked up again by the company. However, there isn’t any fixed timeline mentioned as to when you can expect Facebook to roll out ads in WhatsApp and there’s still a long way to go for the three instant messaging platforms to come together. It can possibly take years before the unification of these messaging platforms take place. . . . . #techies_page_whatsapp #techies_page_facebook #techies_page #techies #tech #technology #whatsapp #whatsappbeta #beta #betaversion #facebook #ads #monetize #messaging #apps #facebookmessenger #messenger #instagram #ad #facebookaccount #phonenumber #monetization #selling #usa #uk #unitedstates #unitedkingdom #australia #canada #india https://www.instagram.com/p/B_eaEFYAPEH/?igshid=6e6vs5n8mfq

The rumors were correct, Facebook is indeed upping the maximum limit of people allowed to participate in a group audio or video call on WhatsApp. The current limit is 4, but this will "soon" double to 8 for everyone, the company revealed today. The new functionality has already been spotted in beta versions of the app. As before, these calls, whether audio or video, are end-to-end encrypted, meaning no one else can view or listen to them, not even WhatsApp or Facebook. That's in stark contrast to the also just unveiled Messenger Rooms, which don't come with end-to-end encryption. On the other hand, Rooms does allow for up to 50 people to be on a call. Unfortunately, Facebook hasn't shared a specific launch timeline for the new maximum limit of participants for WhatsApp. Previous clues found in beta versions of the app implied that all of the 8 participants would have to use the latest iteration of the app, once the functionality launches in the wild. We'll have to wait and see if that pans out. . . . . #techies_page_facebook #techies_page_whatsapp #techies_page #techies #tech #technology #facebook #whatsapp #whatsappbeta #whatsappvideocall #videocall #videocalls #participants #beta #messenger #messengerrooms #encrypted #encryption #usa #unitedstates #uk #unitedkingdom #australia #calls #europe #call #zoom #googleduo #duo #videoconference https://www.instagram.com/p/B_Z5k7WAyVn/?igshid=1kj1s4837k67j

Facebook has announced it has invested $5.7 billion in Jio Platforms, part of the wider portfolio of the Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries. According to a blog post by the social media, the major reason behind the deal that made Facebook the largest minority shareholder is to combine JioMart and WhatsApp powers to “enable people to connect with businesses, shop and ultimately purchase products in a seamless mobile experience”. Having an IM platform go beyond its chat capabilities is no news in the mobile world. The Chinese giant Tencent is the owner of WeChat - a massive platform that allows over a billion users to communicate, purchase online or even make offline payments. Facebook investing in the Indian market is no surprise - WhatsApp currently has over 400 million users in the country. David Fischer, Chief Revenue Officer, and Ajit Mohan, VP and Managing Director in India, revealed some numbers - in less than four years, Jio has brought more than 388 million people online, and in just the past five years over half a billion of people have gained access to internet. . . . . #techies_page_facebook #techies_page_jio #techies_page #techies #tech #technology #facebook #jio #whatsapp #invest #investment #invested #reliance #shareholder #business #chat #shop #products #wechat #tencent #billion #online #communicate #purchase #payments #indian #india #usa #australia #uk https://www.instagram.com/p/B_T4nRngQR-/?igshid=helj0eycuhaf

The dedicated Facebook Gaming app has been in testing in some Latin American and Asian countries for several months now. However, news regarding the global launch of the Facebook Gaming app surfaced online when a report from The New York Times claimed that the app will launch on April 20th. As expected, the app is now available broadly on the Google Play Store and users can download it to watch and share live gameplay using just their smartphones. The app’s ability to help users share their gameplay right from their smartphones is what’s expected to give it an edge over competitors like Twitch, which require a complex setup to stream mobile games on the platform. You can sign up for the Facebook Gaming service using your Facebook account and start streaming on the platform right away. In case you’re not looking to start your streaming career anytime soon, you can also just use the app to watch other streamers. Additionally, the app also includes support for instant games that you can enjoy without downloading them onto your device first. To make streaming and watching games a more social experience on the Facebook Gaming app, the company has also included a Connect feature that you can use to join existing gaming groups and connect with other users on the platform. As of now, the Facebook Gaming app is only available on Android, but the company plans to release the app on iOS once it receives approval from Apple. . . . . #techies_page_facebook #techies_page_facebookgaming #techies_page #techies #tech #technology #facebook #facebookgaming #gaming #streamers #streaming #google #ios #android #apple #games #app #stream #googleplaystore #playstore #usa #latinamerica #unitedstates #unitedkingdom #uk #australia #europe #asia #twitch #fb https://www.instagram.com/p/B_O4XlBAr4-/?igshid=jb38bkcisryi
