Context

Elenas’ goal is being the operative system for direct selling in Latin America. This early stage startup, previously called Descubre, was launched in early November 2018 in the Techchrunch Battle event in Brazil. As part of the launch, the Elenas name and new brand and identity were to be revealed, as well as a first version of the app under the Elenas moniker. All this was to be designed and developed in under a month, just in time for the day of the event.

Objectives

Create a strong and feminine brand and identity for Elenas

Design and develop the first version of Elenas Seller’s App

Empowering women to earn more in less time without risk

Elenas’ primary objective is allowing women to earn more money by creating an easier and risk free way to sell, using social media to share the products, and allowing the sellers to focus on providing a great service while Elenas handles logistics and payments. Our message of women empowerment needed a visually strong brand and identity to back it up.

Creating the brand

From some initial exploration mockups we came across a couple of ideas and shapes that resonated with the Elenas’ founders and the team. The idea of a logo that could represent both the Elenas initial and a form of natural power gave way to the final logo, a combination of the letter E with a shape that reminisces a drop of water or fireball.

Designing and Developing the first Elenas app

For this first version of the Elenas app we wanted to make use of our newly found visual language and voice to help women who were used to working on traditional direct sales to transition to a digital model where they could share content and products with their contacts though social media and earn a commission on each sale. The main section of the app is the feed, where sellers can see new products and content published on a daily basis, as well as read content and watch videos to become a better seller and earn more. A list of all the orders is also a tap away, so they can track the state and know how much and when they should get paid. In their profile, they can check their total earnings, last and next payments, etc.

Krisp: Armenian startup snags $5M A round as demand grows for its voice-isolating algorithm

Armenian startup Krisp has raised $5M A round as demand grows for its voice-isolating algorithm, TechChrunch reports.

Krisp’s  smart noise suppression tech, which silences ambient sounds and isolates the voice for calls got out in front of the global shift to virtual presence, turning early niche traction into real customers and attracting a shiny new $5 million series A funding round to expand and diversify its timely offering, the website writes.

Krisp applies a machine learning system to audio in real time that has been trained on what is and isn’t the human voice. What isn’t a voice gets carefully removed even during speech, and what remains sounds clearer.

It can work on practically any device, especially ones with AI acceleration units like most modern smartphones.

The company began by offering its standalone software for free, with paid tier that removed time limits. It also shipped integrated into popular social chat app Discord. But the real business is, unsurprisingly, in enterprise.

“Early on our revenue was all pro, but in December we started onboarding enterprises. COVID has really accelerated that plan,” explained Davit Baghdasaryan, co-founder and CEO of Krisp.

“In March, our biggest customer was a large tech company with 2,000 employees — and they bought 2,000 licenses, because everyone is remote. Gradually enterprise is taking over, because we’re signing up banks, call centers and so on. But we think Krisp will still be consumer-first, because everyone needs that, right?” he added.

Now even more large companies have signed on, including one call center with some 40,000 employees. Baghdasaryan says the company went from 0 to 600 paying enterprises, and $0 to $4M annual recurring revenue in a single year, which probably makes the investment — by Storm Ventures, Sierra Ventures, TechNexus and Hive Ventures — look like a pretty safe one.

Ser Becario En Silicon Valley Es Lo Mejor Que Puede Pasarte En Esta Vida

Llegar a una empresa, empezar a servir cafés y hacer fotocopias. Sin sueldo o, en el mejor de los casos, bonificaciones ínfimas. La vida de becario es dura, de eso no hay duda y, en muchas ocasiones, se convierte en un trabajo que se acerca más al de un asistente o secretario que un profesional en prácticas. Además, todo despiste o fallo es durante criticado y tachado de cagadas de becario.

Todos hemos tenido estas horribles experiencias y, aunque ahora podamos verlo con perspectiva y recordarlo hasta con cierto cariño, la verdad es que son épocas duras. Sobre todo para aquellos que se quedan en el puesto de becario más de lo necesario (crisis económica, bienvenida) y un contrato fijo se convierte en un sueño imposible. En la celebración del Día Internacional del Becario este lunes 8 de mayo no vamos a recordar los aspectos más horribles de ser becario; por el contrario, veamos la otra cara de este trabajo. Porque ser becario puede ser algo maravilloso.

Los becarios en empresas de Silicon Valley tiene en promedio un sueldo de 5.500 euros y ayudas para el alquiler

Pero solo si trabajas en Silicon Valley. En Estados Unidos la vida es mucho más cara y, en consecuencia, los sueldos son más altos. Normalmente, esta norma no aplicaría para los becarios (de los cuales a muchos no les dan ni las gracias) pero desde Silicon Valley han decidido cambiar las cosas.

La sede de empresas como Facebook, Google y Apple se han convertido también en un paraíso para los becarios. En este tipo de empresas existe una gran competencia por contratar a jóvenes talentos y, para ello, dan muchos incentivos a los nuevos becarios para que accedan a formarse con la compañía. Matrículas para gimnasios, cafeterías gourmet, oficinas de lujo… Todo sumado a un sueldo de más de 5.500 euros al mes además de ayudas para pagar el alquiler y bonificaciones.

En el caso de Google, la empresa ofrece a los pasantes 6.500 euros mensuales y otros 1.800 como ayuda para el alquiler. Microsoft sube el sueldo a 7.000 más 2.330 en alquiler y otros 4.600 en incentivos, la misma cifra que ofrece LinkedIn. Dropbox pone todavía el listón más alto con una oferta para los becarios de 8.000 euros mensuales y 4.660 para el alquiler, informó un estudio publicado en Bloomberg.

Los trabajadores recién llegados a una compañía de Silicon Valley tienen un sueldo promedio de 95.000 euros (unos 8.000 mensuales) más un bono de acciones de casi 12.000. En promedio, la Administración de Seguro Social arrojó en 2015 que el promedio salarial en Estados Unidos es de 44.000 euros, unos 3.500 al mes y muy por debajo de las cifras de Silicon Valley.

La inexperiencia como fortaleza

Con estos sueldos y prestaciones uno querría ser becario toda su vida. Además del sueño en Silicon Valley, hay otras empresas que también ofrecen buenas oportunidades y remuneración a los nuevos trabajadores. Sin embargo, hay becarios que sin importar las condiciones, lo tiran todo lo borda. Algunas veces son errores de principiante, otras son meteduras de pata que han provocado el despido.

Business Insider publicó en 2014 las peores meteduras de pata de los becarios y que serán recordadas hasta la posteridad, como la pasante que se de NBC que cagó (literalmente) en dos plantas diferentes porque los baños estaban cerrados.

Un becario fue despedido de su puesto por intercambiar buenas reseñas por MacBooks

Otro becario de TechChrunch que fue expulsado por escribir que publicaría buenas reseñas a cambio de MacBooks. Otro estudiante fue víctima de las redes sociales después de que enviara un mail a sus jefes diciéndoles que no podría asistir por problemas familiares y, más tarde, su jefe lo viera en Facebook vestido de hada y con una cerveza en la mano.

Ser joven puede ser el mejor arma o el peor peligro. En un momento en el que para muchos la fiesta es lo más importante y en donde quizá muchos jóvenes están empezando a aprender cuales son los valores más importantes en un trabajo, en Silicon Valley ven todos estos aspectos como una fortaleza. Las ganas de aprender y las nuevas y refrescantes ideas son lo más importante para algunas de las empresas más innovadoras a nivel mundial. Ser becario es un trabajo para aprender, peor también para compartir tu talento y demostrarlo. Y una buena remuneración y motivaciones es el primer paso para apoyar a los nuevos profesionales.
