okay, so since you came to my blog only to check, heres a full explaination:

animation like that reaches my department ALL the time, and nobody who works in my exact department gets respect or recognition for fixing it. the original thread was also FULL of CFX artists and technical animators who pointed out that this was not how its done, not good and in fact unclean work (specifically talking about the insanely broken body of the character, there is no reason for her chest to be crushed up like that), and they were all dismissed as "not knowing what they are talking about".

I have to hold meeting at least every couple of months for animation departments to teach them NOT to do this, that we have different means and ways to solve this, and crushing up the characters animated body is absolutely not the way to go about it- because they will either have to go back in and fix it themselves, or someone else has to do it for them.

in the case of the poster it looks like it traveled on, and the material of the body aswell as the cloth proxy provided are so smashed that they are unusable for most simulation rig inputs (sorry for jargon, but i want to be precise on what the issue is). this means it needs to be fixed into a usable shape by *someone*, and since the poster thought this was how it ended up in the movie, he obviously didn't do it himself.

...and instead somebody who earns about half his wage and has to do just as much overtime because his job starts even later in the pipeline had to do that ON TOP OF all of the simulation work.

THAT is the issue. THAT is why that post is disrespectful. THAT is the falsehood I am correcting.

also, i would like to point out that 3D cameras have more possibilities and tricks up their sleeves than IRL cameras. this could also have been solved in compositing, or by duplicating the character and using the duplicates hands at a different distance. all of these issues would have created a clean output, but the poster chose to create an unclean output.

on top of that, I need to mention that VFX=/=VFX. within VFX you will find several vastly different departments, and an FX artist, a rigger or a comper will not necessarily be bothered by the broken anim output, but people who have to directly work with that (CFX, TechAnim, Crowds) do, and you could see that clearly reflected within the original thread.

I will admit that I was being somewhat mean, but that does not change the fact that I am actually currently in crunchtime because our animation department delivered unclean work just like that, and cleaning their outputs takes up 60% of our time that is not accounted for within our schedules. also- clean work does not mean "invest more time".

they could have extended her arms without crushing up half of her body. it's literally as simple as using the character rig correctly.

here is my apparently bad take of the day:

don't talk about fields you know nothing about, and don't correct people on things you know nothing about.

Not sure if you thought of this but are the animals organic or cybaranimal or alien? I really don't know lol, not sure if there will be beastformers or Predacons in that world. Since there are fur and all that Megatron wears.

They’re a mix of cybernetic and organic! Thorns and Thrones is a soft body au, so nothing exactly ‘transforms’ mechanically (mecha, techanimals, beastformers)

This AU does have mythical elements added to it as well! Transformations are totally on the table if you’re dealing w Sorcery, Curses, Demonic possession, or Changelings

The furs are absolutely from a variety of techanimals that exists in this world from cyberwolves down to cybercattle, mythical techbeasts exists too, but they’re rarer to come by nowadays. However, since the Allspark’s disappearance, it seems more and more that strange, dangerous creatures are showing up out of thin air.

The ancient Predacons were rumored to be nothing short of half-beast, as not many outside of their people shared the knowledge on how they could seamlessly communicate with and command anything from titanical serpents to dragons. The Predacons aren’t in the current timeline of the AU, but many speculate that the Dinobots tucked away in the unclaimed Isles are descendants of them!

Dinobot armor is highly sought after since it’s believed that the scales of fallen dragons have been passed down through those family lines. Trading for this impenetrable, fire proof, material rarely ever happens. It’s more common to negotiate a hefty hand-crafted weapon or brilliantly colored fabrics, the latter kudos to skills brought in by the Seekers who merged with the Dinobots, than it is the ever get your hands on scaled armor. Because of it’s rarity, Dinobots who venture out of the Isles frequently conceal their coveted armor in furs.

so crash course, furs, scales, hides, and teeth, some materials used more commonly than others, are techno organic materials used to create clothes and armor in this world outside of the usual metal ore!

So what exactly did Laserbeak look before she became a Techanimal?

I currently have no ideas (and didn’t really plan to reveal) on what both her and Ravage’s pre-Technimal forms looked like.But what I can tell you is this:

When she was known as ‘Railwreck’ and a big beefy train bot of a femme, Laserbeak had a hefty body, one where she used more quadrupedal locomotion to move about as it was easier than going bipedal which she was also capable of doing and also bore a pair of rather humanoid hands. Think a little like how iguanodon’s are currently depicted as moving on all fours but capable of rearing up and using their front legs to manipulate things.So if anything she probably looked a little like that in shape. Using train carriages as a sort of tail/counterbalance to her weight.

Ravage, I might as well put this info out as I’ve HEAVILY implied it already, used to be a Submarine named Coldseep and he was part of a trine with Seaspray and Depth Charge.

6 Month: Post 29

Hey guys I’m really excited so i’m giving you a gif early.

It works! I’m starting the fascia layer or the fat layer tomorrow...I’m quite excited. Then there is the progress on the alpha that I’m making. I’m making great progress I need to do the load for my main menu and fix the controls prompt then my alpha is ready. I also started my marketing material. This material is like a draft icon for my game.
