🤔,👻,💥, and 🛏 for the ask game!
Thanks for the asks! ❤️
🤔 Are there any new characters you want to write about?
I'm actually super excited about this! I just found out about the Febuwhump event, and one of the prompts is perfect for some new characters I've loved for a while but never written about. I'm a HUGE fan of the Pendergast series by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child (my next cats will be named Vinnie and Aloysius) and have been thinking of writing a short fic about D'Agosta's reaction to Pendergast's sacrifice in Book 5: Brimstone. That will be posted in February but I'm already working on it so I can have time to get it as close to perfect as possible!
Another new kind of fic I might try to write is for C.J. Archer's Cleopatra Fox series, because as much as I love her slow-burn, low-spice detective stories, we are in book 9 (NINE) and there has been no real emotional progress and only two brief kisses that Cleo overthinks for the rest of that book and the next. Richard is perfect for her but she just won't admit to her pessimistic (and sometimes toxic-feminist) side that he's not like the guys she's seen in the past. I listen to the series on audio, and during the last book people at work actually thought I was mad at my spreadsheets but I was really just mentally shaking this girl by the shoulders like "Open your eyes, ma'am!" So (deep breath, don't continue the rant)...I would love to attempt a fix-it sort of thing where I finally get the resolution that I want and they go on happily solving crimes together, whether her family disowns her or not. Her family isn't particularly likable to begin with, except for Flossy who is a funny little dear, so I don't see where that's a huge issue.
Summary: If I write a Pendergast fic, I just want him and D'Agosta to acknowledge that at this point they are blood brothers, maybe for Aloysius to fess up a little about why he's so averse to hugs, and for them to admit that they would die for each other since they have each actually tried to like twice already. If I write a Cleo/Richard fic, I just want an honest admission by Cleo that she was wrong about love and that marriage to a man who she fell in love with at first sight who lets her do as she pleases and who "gets" her at a level that her family never could, would maybe not be so bad.
👻 Is there a new genre you'd like to write?
I'd actually like to try my hand at...I guess it's not really romance, because of the simple fact that I don't like what most romance/romantasy novels contain (to each his own, but I'ma pass). But stories like in The Secret of Chimneys by Agatha Christie, in which the guy and the girl actually are perfect for each other and their souls mesh the minute they meet, like "Wow what took me so long to find you?" At the moment that's my Cleo Fox/Richard Armitage HC story, or Tech/Phee and Hunter/Sheona (OC) for the Bad Batch. In the case of the Batch, they all deserve a happily ever after. I'm just not sure how well I could write that kind of thing.
💥Is there a chapter, scene, or WIP you're most excited to write? Share a snippet or tell us about it!
Yes! I'm super excited about writing The Codex, which I've talked about a little already but will happily do so again at length. It's in the very beginning stages but I would love to get it done this year, especially with the TBB comics coming out!
Basic Idea: Near the beginning of the Clone Wars, Clone Force 99 is assigned by Commander Cody to escort Obi-Wan Kenobi to an unexplored Outer Rim planet. Their objective is to find an ancient Sith/Jedi relic that has been coming up in underworld chatter, an object known as the Codex. (It's actually a real thing in SW. The Codex focuses and enhances a being's Force potential but was lost for millennia.) Kenobi hasn't met the Batch before, but as soon as he does he senses something like Force sensitivity in Hunter.
Without prying too much, the general tries to discover what the sergeant's abilities may be as the mission goes on. (Think random questions and conversations regarding Force things about which Hunter has literally no clue. The poor sergeant thinks Cody gave them the crazy general, which he did, but for other reasons.) When they get to the temple, a dark Force user is already there for the relic and a nail-biting race for the artifact ensues through underground tunnels, light sabers and blasters lighting up the dark, like a crazy Preston&Child chase sequence. Lots of opportunities for the young Batch to prove their stuff as relatively new soldiers -- cave-ins and explosions for Wrecker, split-second thinking and obscure knowledge for Tech, and stuff to kill and make fun of for Crosshair. Hunter is dealing with his own issues because of the Force thing but he's also thrilled to be out in the field, tracking and getting the job done. (Another side effect is that Obi-Wan is in real fear for his life at one point, sees these boys causing chaos and destruction, having the time of their lives, and thinks that it should be illegal for that much energy and death-wishiness to be packed into four men. It's enough to supply the entire 7th Sky Corps but somehow they got all of it.)
The plot twist is that Kenobi is emphatically not the hero of the story. The Dark Force user takes the "room temperature challenge" courtesy of an unlikely person who used the Codex and surprised everyone, including himself.
I just think a Force-sensitive Hunter would be a fun character to explore, and I like the idea of the Bad Batch saving General-the-Sithslayer Kenobi. I also think that Obi-Wan would see the four young batchers (scrawny in too-big armor, fresh off Kamino, arguing amongst themselves with intense stray puppy vibes) and just go "Adopt" because he's been around Plo too long and it's turned up his own dad instincts. (If not precious kiddos, why precious kiddo shaped?)
🛏 Is there a new trope you'd like to write this year?
Do AUs count as tropes? Because buddy do I have some stuff I've been thinking about. I love the Modern Batch AU my sister came up with; I also have plenty of ideas for an "Order 66 didn't happen (or if it did it didn't work bc Cody is awesome)" kind of AU. There's another one I've been thinking about, which I've been calling my Rescued AU, that also includes a Force-sensitive Hunter, but the Bad Batchers are much younger than the other clones, Ahsoka is older, Fives lives and Echo is never blown up, and Rex and the command batch figure out who the Sith Lord is early on in the war. Somehow this saves the galaxy and everyone lives happily ever after.
If not AUs, I think the "presumed dead" trope is fun (for me, obviously not the characters). It was done well in Brimstone and I've had a WIP called Glory and Honor that's been collecting dust forever, in which Cody is presumed dead after a terrible campaign that was caused by either Krell or Tarkin (still not sure if it's going to be an Umbara alternate or take place in a more original setting). Kenobi is distraught because he was wounded and taken from the field before Cody disappeared, and has no way to know for sure if the commander was killed instantly as reported or if he was left to die slowly in the carnage. Cody obviously survives and fights his way back to his Jedi and his men, and gets a good swing or two in on the bad guy responsible (which is why I'm kind of hoping it's going to be Krell, so I can have Cody kill him off as he deserves).
If you read ALL of that, I applaud you. I am notoriously long-winded😂Sorry!

Ways I’d be ok with the Tech/Phee romance:
-They actually develop it properly over a number of episodes
- in a series of comedic events, she tries to win him over and he doesn’t notice
- They’re watching the ship together and she begins telling him first about funny relationship horror stories she’s had, but then she begins to tell him about the good parts of romantic relationships. The comfort, the closeness, the understanding... And some part of Tech begins to want and he doesn’t know what. And for a few episodes he catches himself staring at couples and Phee and going off alone to think. And then one day he asks to hold her hand, just to see what it’s like, and they go from there
- they ditch all forms of setup and reveal they’ve been banging the entire time. Tech didn’t think it was relevant enough to tell anyone. Phee was waiting for most entertaining moment to casually drop it into conversation
- Tech and Phee are on a mission, someone starts aggressively hitting on Tech, he gets uncomfortable, and Phee pretends to be his girlfriend to save him. But what’s this?? They get trapped there and have to keep up the ruse??? Oh how the turntables
- dammit I think I just bamboozled myself into actually liking this pairing. Fml

I need hope for a happy ending in season 3, so I’ve been writing a lot of fluffy one-shots centering around this happy ending. It’s one of the ways I cope. Enjoy!
Summary: The Bad Batch decides to play matchmaker. Their targets: Phee and Tech.
Title: Matchmaking
Word count: 2,291
Crosshair could only say one thing about Tech right now, and that was how oblivious he was when it came to the female race. For someone as intelligent and as astute as Tech, he certainly wasn’t either when Phee Genoa was around.
Take this morning, for instance. Crosshair had watched as the two of them passed by one another, Phee looking hopeful for a greeting or a smile, Tech too buried in his blasted datapad to notice. If you asked Crosshair, his brother had an unhealthy addiction. Had Tech been a child, Crosshair would have taken the datapad away from him.
He decided he’d have to step in. Tech just needed a little push, that’s all. One little push. If that didn’t work, there was absolutely no hope for him. None whatsoever.
Crosshair decided the best way to go about this was to convince Tech it was a research assignment. His brother loved those. He’d spend hours researching one topic until he knew every little detail, every fact. He was probably on a mission to be the smartest intellect in the galaxy. Good for him, but it certainly wasn’t helping his love life.
Or maybe Crosshair could employ a little trickery. That might work, too.
He brought up his idea to the others when Tech wasn’t around.
Hunter looked skeptical. “You want to play matchmaker?”
“Awesome!” Wrecker said. “I’m in. What do you need me to do?”
“I don’t know about this,” Echo grumbled, rubbing the back of his neck. “I don’t like butting in on the private affairs of others. It’s none of our business whether or not Tech and Phee decide to pursue a relationship.”
“But they’re perfect together,” Omega argued. “Don’t you want Tech to be happy?”
Crosshair nodded. “I agree with the kid.”
“I second that,” Wrecker said.
Echo looked over at Hunter, imploring him to see reason. Hunter simply sighed. It was clear to him which battles he could win, and which he couldn’t, and Crosshair was determined to have it his way. They had all been through so much suffering. It was high time they worked on bringing a bit more happiness into their lives.
Starting with Tech and Phee’s budding relationship.
Hunter folded his arms over his chest and nodded at Crosshair. “What’s your plan?”
Crosshair hadn’t gotten that far. He’d been convinced he’d receive resistance from Hunter. He hadn’t counted on his older brother’s support, which he knew was needed now if they wanted to pull this off without Tech catching on.
“I know,” Wrecker said, saving him from having to answer. “We make it seem like we need help with something. We lure the two love birds to a nice spot with good views and let the sparks fly.”
“I think that’s a great plan,” Omega said excitedly.
“Someone just needs to get that blasted datapad away from Tech,” Crosshair said. “It’s a distraction.”
“That’s like taking a toy away from a child,” Echo said. “It’ll never work.”
“Want me to break it?” Wrecker suggested, cracking his knuckles eagerly.
“No,” Hunter and Echo said simultaneously.
“I’ll hide it,” Omega said. “I’ll hide it so good he’ll never be able to find it.”
Echo shook his head. “The more we discuss it, the more ridiculous this plan sounds. Face it, kids. It’s never going to work.”
“That’s how much you know!”
Echo raised a brow at her, but didn’t respond.
Crosshair flicked his toothpick at him. “If you’re so smart, why don’t you come up with a plan?”
“Because I don’t want to meddle, that’s why.”
Hunter scrubbed a hand over his face. “Let’s just forget about the whole thing, all right?”
Echo nodded at him. “Thank you. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got work to do.”
He turned and left the rest of the squad standing there. As soon as he was gone, Hunter cleared his throat, gaining everyone’s attention.
“Now back to the plan,” he said, grinning.
Omega pumped a fist in the air. “All right! I knew you were on our side, Hunter.”
***
Tech stepped down from the Marauder and was bathed in warm light from the setting sun. He lifted a hand to shield his eyes from the glare. After being inside the dark interior of the Marauder all day, he had to adjust to the new lighting.
He now considered the ship to be in perfect functioning order. He’d run a full diagnostic on all systems and made a few needed adjustments, then kept busy doing other small repairs just to keep the boredom from creeping in.
This quiet life was going to take some getting used to. During the war, he’d always had tasks and missions to keep his mind and hands active. Having settled on Pabu with the squad, he found he no longer had to devise elaborate strategies and calculate odds.
He also found himself thinking about Phee a lot, and he just didn’t know what to do with those particular thoughts. She was lovely and confident. When she was around, he was reduced to a stammering idiot who couldn’t think of one coherent thing to say to her.
So Tech had resorted to avoiding her. He knew his behavior was akin to that of an adolescent boy, but it saved him from uncomfortable situations he’d rather not have to face.
At times like this, he wished he had more confidence when it came to women. Hunter and Wrecker certainly had it. Hunter didn’t even have to try. He naturally oozed that physical masculinity that appealed to women.
Tech heaved a sigh. He wanted to ask Hunter for advice, but he didn’t need yet another thing to be embarrassed about.
He glanced up from his datapad and saw Crosshair coming towards him. Tech found it odd that his brother was smiling. Crosshair didn’t seem to do much smiling now, not since they’d rescued him from Mount Tantiss. Tech was suddenly suspicious.
“It isn’t healthy, you know,” Crosshair said in lieu of greeting.
“What isn’t healthy?” Tech asked.
“How much time you spend by yourself on the Marauder or with your face buried in that blasted datapad.”
“I hardly consider myself alone. If I were to activate my comlink, I would no doubt receive an answer from one of the squad.”
“Want to make a bet?”
“A bet,” Tech repeated, finding the notion ridiculous. They both knew who would win said-bet and it wasn’t going to be Crosshair.
“Yes,” Crosshair answered. “If you win, I will leave you to whatever it was you were doing. If I win, you give me that datapad. Go find something to do that doesn’t involve research or thinking.”
Tech considered it, then agreed to the terms, but only because it was a harmless bet and he considered it important to keep up Crosshair’s morale.
“Deal.”
Crosshair nodded. “Excellent.”
Tech activated his comlink. “Omega, this is Tech. Come in.”
No answer. This puzzled him because Omega always answered him.
“Wrecker, do you copy?”
Still no answer.
He glanced over at Crosshair, who was smirking as if he found the situation amusing.
“Go on,” Crosshair said, gesturing with a hand. “Try Hunter.”
Tech tried again. “Hunter, no one else is picking up,” he said. “If this is a game, I am not amused.”
No answer.
“Don’t bother trying Echo. He’s busy.”
Tech, being the good sport that he was—despite the very obvious fact that he’d been played—reluctantly handed his datapad over to Crosshair.
“I am not sure what is going on here,” he said indignantly. “But please be aware that I require my datapad back by tonight. I cannot sleep without it.”
Crosshair tucked the datapad under his arm. “Don’t worry. You’ll get it back.”
Tech wasn’t reassured. His comlink pinged and he activated it. “If I had been in trouble, your delay in returning my call could have proven fatal to my life,” he said dourly.
“It’s Omega,” came Omega’s voice. “I need help fixing something, Tech.”
“Where are you?”
“Down at the docks. Can you please hurry? It’s an emergency.”
“I’ll be right there.”
He considered wrestling his datapad away from Crosshair, but thought better of it. He stalked past him and took the path leading down to the docks. He muttered under his breath all the way, scheming up ways to get his siblings back without appearing childish. He knew he could come up with something far more elaborate than their poor excuse for a prank. Of all the rotten things to do.
Tech soon arrived at the docks, but he didn’t see Omega anywhere. It was possible she had gotten impatient and left, or the problem had been solved without him. Perhaps Echo had attended to it.
“Fancy seeing you here, Brown Eyes.”
Tech’s heart started pounding in his chest at the sound of her voice. He turned to find Phee standing there, one hand resting on a cocked hip. There was an amused twinkle in her eyes.
“I was told by Omega that she required my assistance and to meet her here,” Tech explained.
“Huh. What a coincidence. She told me the same thing.”
“I am beginning to think it isn’t a coincidence at all.”
Phee chuckled. “You know what?” she said. “I think that girl’s trying to get the two of us together.”
“Actually, she isn’t the only one,” Tech said. “I believe she is in league with the others.”
Phee moved closer to him. With nothing to occupy his hands, he suddenly wished for his datapad. His hands were sweating now. He swallowed, his nerves closing in on him, threatening to shake his composure.
Phee pointed a finger of accusation at his chest. “You’ve been avoiding me.”
“No, that isn’t . . .” Tech sighed. “Yes, I was avoiding you,” he admitted. It was no use lying to her.
“Okay, then.” She crossed her arms over her chest. “Any particular reason why? You didn’t go and meet another pirate now, did you? Don’t tell me. I bet she’s beautiful.”
He felt his ears go hot. “No, of course not! There is only one pirate in my life, and she is very dear to me. However, I am unsure as to how I should convey my feelings to her. My mind ceases to function at its normal capacity when she is near.”
Phee’s gaze softened. “I know you care about me,” she murmured. “I was only teasing.”
Tech was feeling bold now. He pushed on before he lost his confidence.
“I admire both your beauty and your integrity, Phee,” he said. “While it baffles me that a woman such as yourself has chosen a man like me to bestow her affections upon, I will endeavor to return your affections to the best of my abilities, and—“
Phee placed a finger over his lips, shushing him. “Don’t try so hard, Brown Eyes. I like you just the way you are.”
Tech was so surprised by her touch he froze, his eyes widening.
“Just do one thing for me. It makes it difficult for me to pursue our friendship when you avoid me like the plague. Just a simple smile or a greeting every once in awhile would satisfy me.”
“I believe I can manage more than a smile,” he said, then boldly captured one of her hands in his and brought it to his lips. He pressed a gentle kiss against her knuckles.
Phee seemed surprised by the gesture, then pleased, if the broad smile that touched her lips was any indication. Tech took this as a good sign. He pressed her hand against his chest so she might feel his heart racing in reaction to her nearness.
“Can I kiss you?” Phee asked softly. “On the lips, I mean . . .”
Tech had never been kissed before, but he was eager to find out what it might be like. He nodded, letting her know he was willing.
Slowly, gently, Phee took his goggles and raised them away from his eyes. Her face became blurry, but that didn’t matter. He closed his eyes as she draped her arms around his neck and closed in the gap between them.
Then she kissed him, slow and gentle. Tech didn’t know how to respond at first, but then he allowed his instincts to guide him. He drew Phee into his embrace and returned the kiss, enjoying it very much. It was just as nice as he thought it would be.
He made up his mind, then. Kissing Phee was much better than having his face buried in a datapad.
***
Omega came running into the Marauder, where Echo was sulking in a chair. Wrecker and Crosshair stood on either side of him.
“You can give him back his comlink,” she told them breathlessly. “The mission was a success!”
“What happened?” Wrecker wanted to know.
Omega leaned in like she was about to share a big secret. “They kissed!”
Wrecker made a face of disgust. “Is that all?”
Crosshair snorted. “What did you think they’d do, stand there and stare at one another?”
Echo snatched his comlink back from Crosshair. “Was taking away my comlink necessary?” he groused.
“If we hadn’t, you would have ruined the plan,” Wrecker said.
Hunter entered the ship, a broad smile on his lips. “The love birds are taking a stroll now,” he reported.
“Oh, so now we’re spying on them.” Echo paused, then asked, “What else?” like he was eager to hear a juicy bit of gossip.
“They’re holding hands.”
“That’s so cute!” Omega said.
Echo grabbed a pair of binoculars from his kit and headed for the hatchway.
Hunter folded his arms over his chest. “And just where are you going?” he asked, trying to bite back a smile.
“Birdwatching,” Echo replied, before hurrying on his way.

A surgical redemption: An everyone lives AU.
This is my 2nd contribution to @tbb-appreciation-week for 2023. This one is Tech, Everyone Lives, a Reunion, and "Please, Talk to Me". @intrepidmare here you go.
Tech knew what he had done on Eriadu would result in his death. He had come to accept that. That was Plan 99, after all, sacrifice. A cable knocked off his goggles which also knocked him out. At least when he hits the ground, he won't feel it. So when Tech awoke on a soft bed with every part of his body aching and a bacta patch on the side of his nose, he was astonished. What was going on? Is this where everyone goes after they die? Tech couldn't tell what time it was or even what planet he was on, so he didn't know what season it was. It was comfortable, though. And he could roughly tell he was in a bed. He looked over to a bedside table and saw some goggles, which he put on. The room blurred but was now visible, and he recognised a medical bay. Lights from the ceiling lit the room up, and Tech could hear the distant hum of an engine. He must be on a ship. He can smell and taste the sterile room, ship metal and the materials making up the bed he was lying in. The bed is reasonably soft and supportive. "Where am I?" Tech asked. He looked around and saw Plo Koon sitting next to him. "Is this where everyone goes when they die?" Tech asked. To his shock, Plo Koon shook his head. "No. You're alive. So am I. You've been unconscious for the past week," Plo Koon replied, looking at Tech concerned, "However, you would be dead if I wasn't there to separate you from the gondola you were attached to and then you didn't slam into the ground thanks to me," Plo Koon replied. "Thanks," Tech eventually replied after his brain stopped jamming. "No problem. But I have a question," Plo Koon replied. "What is it?" Tech asked. "Do you have any regrets?" Plo Koon asked. Thinking momentarily, Tech sighed and nodded, though he didn't tell Plo Koon why. His last conversation with Phee went badly. He had been distracted by ensuring everything was ready for their mission to Eriadu. In the process, he upset Phee. "Get some rest, Tech. Irala will remove the bacta patch in a couple of days," Plo Koon got up and started heading out, leaving Tech to his thoughts.
Over the next couple of days, his room would remain comfortable. Twice a day, Irala would come in to change the bed sheets. Tech would busy himself by surfing his holopad. However, he got bored sometimes. And when he got bored, he looked out of his door to see who else was there. He saw several familiar faces, including Fives, Kix, and Shaak Ti. The most intriguing to him, though, was that Irala turned out to be an age-accelerated version of Omega, which surprised him. He wanted to know more about her, but this age accelerated Omega was too busy to stay to chat. Other times, Tech's thoughts would wander to Phee. He needed to talk to her. But he would have to wait until the other squad members came to rescue him. Tech didn't mind waiting. He could scan the galactic internet forever and be OK. However, his thoughts kept drifting to Phee. What could he do to make things up to her?
Two days after he woke up, the age-accelerated Omega entered and removed the bacta patch on his nose. When he looked in a mirror, he saw no mark from the wound on his face. "Thanks for your help, Irala," Tech replied. Irala nodded, but at that moment, the alarms went off. "What's going on?" Tech asked, surprised at the sudden alarm. "All hands on deck, we need help moving a bacta tank," came a voice through the PA system. "We need half a dozen people to move a bacta pod. Unfortunately, with your goggles not working too well, I'm afraid you can't help," Irana replied as she left Tech's room. Soon, a dozen people moved a bacta pod past Tech's room. And if Tech was astonished he was alive, it was nothing compared to his astonishment at who was in the bacta pod. Phee Genoa being in a bacta pod was not how Tech wanted to reunite with her. Tech then did something out of character for him. He ignored the fact he couldn't see well and tried to leave his room to follow. "What is Phee Genoa doing here?" Tech asked once he exited his room. "Tech, please go back to your room. I know you want to help, but with your goggles not working properly, we can't take the risk," Kix called. "But I need to talk to her. I need to make things up with her," Tech replied. "Phee is currently not in a condition to interact with anyone," Kix retorted. "As a medic of Clone Force 99, alongside Echo, I can help," Tech said. "Not unless you've fixed your goggles. Now, back down, Tech. I've given you your path to help. But if you can barely see, you are more of a danger than a help," Kix glared. After a few moments, Tech sighed and then returned to his quarters. Irala saw this and asked, "Kix, can I go talk to Tech?" "Go ahead. Find out what about Phee has made him act like that," Kix replied. "Alright," Irala replied as she entered Tech's room, and Kix departed for the treatment room.
Tech was brooding on his bed when Irala entered. "What's up?" Irala asked. "I need to talk to Phee. I think I offended her or something with our last interaction. I want to make things right with her," Tech replied. Irala understood this feeling. There was a lot Irala wanted to say to her supervisor Kaminoan before the Empire rose that she never got the chance to tell. "Well, Kix did say that if you sorted out the goggles, you might be able to help him out. And I know where you can work on them," Irala replied. "Get me there. I need to ensure Phee is OK, and I can talk to her," Tech said. "Follow me then," Irala nodded and left the room. Momentarily pausing, Tech followed. When Tech and Irala enter the room, Tech sees the room is a mix of an optometrist and a glass forge. It was hotter in this room than the rest of the ship. Seasons aren't a thing in space. A lamp and the forge provide light to the room. Tech can hear the forge humming and can smell and taste the glass and plastic from the glasses frame. The ground is solid on his boots. "Now, Tech, can you please take a seat? We'll sort out upgrading your goggles," Irala said, pointing to a seat that Tech then sat on. "My goggles got knocked off my head on Eriadu. These are improvised goggles," Tech reminded Irala. "Right, that's why you had the patch," Irala replied as she placed the optometry device on Tech's head. Tech only realised the purpose of the optometry device when Irala inserted a set of lenses, and Tech saw his vision clear significantly. Tech was able to read the fourth line. "Good start. Now, one or two?" Irala asked. 'Two," Tech replied. The process continued a dozen times until they found ideal optical lenses. "Your eyesight is terrible," Irala admitted as she noted the specs. "You don't need to remind me of that," Tech replied as Irala removed the optometry device from his head. "Sorry. It's just I heard your eyesight was poor. I didn't think it was that poor," Irala turned back to Tech, "Now I'll get the forge going, and you should have your upgraded goggles ready in about an hour," "Thank you," Tech replied before he grabbed his Data Pad from the nearby table and started looking through it, holding it against his face. "Now that is near-sighted," Irala thought as she watched this.
An hour later, the lenses for Tech's goggles were ready, by which time the room had noticeably cooled. Irala struggled momentarily with the lenses for Tech's goggles before finally getting them in. Or so she thought, as when Tech put them on, Irala realised she'd put them in backwards. No problem. Irala switched them quickly, and Tech put the goggles on just as Kix entered. "We've been able to stabilise Phee for now. She'll probably briefly awaken soon, so if you need to talk to her, Tech, do it soon," Kix said to Tech before turning to Irala. "Have you got his goggles sorted?" Kix asked. "Yes," Irala replied. "Good. Tech, follow me," Kix said, and he exited. After a moment, Tech followed. When Tech entered the treatment room, the room assaulted his senses. Tech saw the lights, the bacta, and the chemicals. Everything in the room necessitated a moment for Tech to adjust. The roof and walls were off-white, while the room's floor was dull silver. There was medical equipment everywhere, including several bacta tanks and pods. Half a dozen beds occupy one side of the room, with five used by Clones or Phee Genoa. Tech immediately went to Phee's bed and sat with her. From what Tech could see, Phee was a mess. Phee only wore a medical robe and had bandages over most of her head. IVs stick out of several places in her left arm, her right arm fully bandaged, with more dressings likely covering a considerable portion of her body. Tech deduces Phee suffered severe burns. Phee's eyes flutter open, and she croaked, "Brown Eyes, you're alive," "Surprised?" Tech asked. "Kinda," Phee admitted, "From what the Wrecker said, you fell several hundred meters at least," "You can thank Plo Koon for saving me," Tech replied. "I'll thank him when I get a chance. I'm just glad you're alive," Phee smiled, which Tech slightly returned before he thought of something. "How did you wind up here? What happened?" Tech asked. Phee was hesitant. The events were still raw in her mind, and it hurt to recall everything. Tech gently took her good hand in his, then said, "Please, talk to me," Phee explained how Cid had, unknown to the squad, defected to the Empire and sold them out after they returned to Ord Mantell to save Omega's life. Phee continued with how Dr Hemlock had captured Omega, and then the Empire had returned to occupy Ord Mantell. Phee concluded with how she had learned about his death, how she had gone to Ord Mantell to confront Cid, and finally, how she wound up here when someone firebombed the Parlour. Tech felt a surge of anger as Phee explained everything. "And that is how I wound up here, staring at your handsome face," Phee teased, causing Tech to blush slightly. "T-thank you," Tech stammered, pushing down his newfound anger. Kix then appeared with them, "We've got to continue treatment, Tech. You're keeping us too long," "Oh, sorry," Tech stated as he stepped aside to allow Irala and Kix to wheel Phee into the operating theatre. Tech went to follow and got a look into the operating theatre. The floor, walls and ceiling were the same shades as the recovery ward. Medical equipment and Bacta Tanks dominated the back wall. A bed was in the middle of the theatre, lit by lights overhead. Medical equipment and life sign monitors dominated two entire walls. "What can I do to help?" Tech asked as Kix put Phee under anaesthesia. "What you can do is go and get the medication I'll need to treat Septic Shock," Kix growled. Tech recoiled in horror. Septic Shock. How had he not seen that Phee was slipping into it? "Alright," Tech said after his brain stopped jamming, and he finally registered what Kix told him. "I'll get the medication you need," Tech stated, adjusting his goggles as he spoke before heading back towards the recovery room, his stomach and intestines knotting painfully with guilt and confusion as he did so.
Once Tech reaches the cupboard, he tries to grab the medication but quickly realises he's having a panic attack. His breathing is short and sharp, and his chest is constricting. Realising this, he puts a hand on the cupboard and takes several deep breaths to calm down. As he does, he remembers Pabu and why he's here. He reassures himself that Phee will be OK if he gets the medication. After a few moments, Tech's heart rate calms down, and his chest, stomach and intestines loosen. Finally, he can focus again. He briefly searches through the cupboard and finds the medicine required. Tech returned to the operating theatre and found Irala and Kix arguing. "We need to treat the sepsis before we can put her in the bacta tank," Kix stated. "We do that, and Phee loses her arm at best. Her burns are bad enough that she needs to be in a bacta tank to treat it, or the Sepsis won't go away," Irala replied. Tech was confused by this argument. He gave Kix the medication, then remembered something Omega had mentioned during one of the times he'd treated her injuries.
Flashback: Omega and Tech were in the Havoc Marauder. The back room was warm and lit by a light in the ceiling. The scents of bacta and blood mixed as Tech strapped Omega's slashed forearm. The bacta bandage was smooth but slippery on his glove. Tech can hear his teammates discussing things in the other room and shallow breathing from Omega. Tech could sense Omega was in the early stages of shock. Sighing, he turned to her. "This bandage is the best we can do at the moment. You need a Bacta Tank to heal properly," Tech said. "You've done your best, Tech. And if you guys are OK with it, please stay with me while I'm in the tank, alright?" Omega asked. "Alright. But how are we going to check the progression of your healing?" Tech replied. "Well, Nala Se would put monitors on me while she tested on me or while I was in a Bacta Tank recovering," Omega replied. Once again, Tech felt that stab of anger course through him again at the Demagolka's name. "Eyeing your vital signs?" Tech asked. "Yes," Omega replied. "Alright. The nurses will want to keep an eye on your vital signs. Also, we won't help you change for obvious reasons," Tech said. "Privacy, I know. Don't worry, I'll handle that myself with the doctors," Omega replied.
End Flashback: "Can I interrupt for a moment?" Tech asked. It was enough for Irala and Kix to stop arguing and look at him. "Why not both? You can monitor Phee's vital signs while she's in the Bacta Tank," Tech suggested. They looked to Tech in astonishment. "How do you know that?" Irala asked. "Nala Se did that to Omega, your non-age accelerated counterpart," Tech replied, looking at Irala, who nodded. "Irala, get other workers. Tech, help me transfer Phee to this board, and then we'll bind her so she doesn't slide off. Alright?" Kix demanded. "Alright," Tech replied, and as Irala departed to find others, Tech assisted Kix in moving Phee to a special yellow board and binding her to it. Soon, Irala returns with three other doctors, and the sextet carefully transfers Phee to a Bacta Tank. Carefully, Tech, Kix and Irala lower Phee into the tank. The other three doctors carefully bind the board to the back of the tank to secure Phee's position. Afterwards, Tech and Kix attach IVs and monitors to Phee to ensure proper treatment. "Well done, Tech. Good work," Kix said, clapping Tech on the shoulder. "I'm just glad she's going to be OK," Tech replied. "You can stay around here or return to your room. I'll tell you when the treatment is complete," Irala said. "I think I'll stay in the recovery room," Tech replied, "You probably need this room anyway," "Well, we never know when we'll need it, so that's for the best," Kix replied. Tech returns to the recovery room while Irala and Kix watch Phee.
Twelve hours later, Kix and Irala remove Phee from the Bacta Tank and move her into a bed, the bacta having treated the Sepsis and burns. It was another eight hours, however, before Phee awoke. Tech, who had been scrolling on his datapad while sitting next to Phee. Immediately, he put his datapad away and turned to face her. "How are you feeling?" Tech asked. "Sore, but OK otherwise," Phee replied, her voice raspy from disuse. "Listen, Phee. I'm sorry I offended you in our last conversation before we left for Eriadu. I was distracted, ensuring everything was ready for the mission. Can you forgive me?" Tech said, sighing as a guilty shadow crossed his features. Phee gently caressed Tech's face and replied, "I forgive you, Brown Eyes. There's something I'd like to know," "What is it?" Tech asked, gently removing her hand from his face and taking it in his own. "Tell me how your brain works. I can tell it works differently from your brothers, alright?" Phee replied, smiling gently. "I will. We'll have plenty of time before my brothers rescue us," Tech replied. "I hope they know you're alive and we're here," Phee said. "If they don't know now, they'll find out. They'll find out you're missing, at least. Hopefully, they know I'm alive too," Tech replied.

Star Wars ships as colors (14/?) - Pheech
Brown - The color brown relates to quality in everything - a comfortable home, the best food and drink and loyal companionship. It is a color of physical comfort, simplicity and quality. From a negative perspective it can also give the impression of cheapness and stinginess in certain circumstances. Brown is friendly and approachable. It is loyal, trustworthy and dependable in a practical and realistic way. In color psychology, brown is honest, genuine and sincere. It relates to the hardworking, the industrious and reliable, with both feet planted firmly on the ground. It is sensual, sensitive and warm, engulfing one in a feeling of calmness and comfort. It is a practical and sensible color which implies common sense. It hides the dirt! The color brown is associated with wholesome, natural and organic produce and anything related to the great outdoors, agriculture and farming. Brown suppresses the emotions, creating a safe haven from the stresses of the outside world within which problems can be contemplated and solved. Brown is a color of structure, although by no means does it encourage perfectionism - rather it encourages orderliness and organization. The color brown gives reassurance. It is quietly confident but never the life of the party! Brown does not seek attention - it prefers to stay in the background, allowing other colors around it to shine. Brown is solid with strength and maturity. It prefers to function in its own safe little world - it is not carefree and spontaneous and doesn’t like surprises.

I’ve seen a few posts now that are anti Tech/Phee and their main reason is “no development”.
What type of development do you want? Dating? Kissing? Declarations of love or affection? Because they don’t got time for that.
Also there was a whole discussion that Tech had with Omega about how he doesn’t express emotions in the way his brothers do. He makes it clear that that doesn’t mean he lacks emotions.
Tech isn’t the type to give some big declaration of love or dabble in PDA (that would go for all clones I’d think since PDA is against military code). That’s not him. Instead it’s more the physical closeness (him standing near Phee or sitting next to her on Pabu for instance) and the noted glances or small smirks (like on Pabu).
I think there has been plenty of development but done in Tech’s way that people are missing. Honestly I think that goes for most of the clones. They were never supposed to experience relationships outside of the brotherly camaraderie of the military. Most will have zero experience in it.
Expecting the classic development of romance is unfair when it centers around the clones. I don’t think it’d be a romance displayed like Anakin and Padme.

Thoughts on Episode 5, Phee, and Shipping:
I love Phee, so first of all, jot that down.
That being said, I didn't really like this episode. Part of that is me being biased, because I wrote one (1) Tech/Phee fic and got myself attached, and their interactions in the first five minutes were promising enough to disappoint later, but a greater part is... where's the beginning, middle, and end? What's the point of the story? What plot has been pushed forward or what character has developed?
You could define the beginning, middle, and end by their location - ord mantell, inside the mech, inside the mech bridge - but that's not the plot. If the purpose was just finding the Heart of the Mountain, why did they have to leave it? Because stealing is bad? We got to see more Phee and I'm grateful for that, but the only thing that's really changed about the characters is Hunter's gone from not liking Phee to tolerating her. Are we going to find out why next episode?
My worry, biased and all, is that they're going to shoehorn in a Hunter/Phee romance where it doesn't make sense. If Hunter and Phee get more time together and a relationship that develops in a way that makes sense for the characters and the story, great! I will continue shipping Hunter/Echo and Tech/Phee and canon can suck my dick as always, but I won't be upset at the show. If there's no romance at all and it was all just rumors, I'm cool with that. If it's something that winds up crammed down our throats no matter the actual dynamic because "main character" and "pretty human he's not related to", I'm gonna be pissed.
I was also saying in response to last week's episode that I was really hoping for more character-focused episodes. This was not it. The main characters were very obviously Phee and Omega, with Omega in the role of the Wide-Eyed Wunderkind and Phee as the World-Wise Wench. We don't actually learn anything about Phee - her hopes, dreams, goals, character. The whole episode focused on her being intuitive and a treasure hunter and a storyteller - and at no point was any of that expanded or built upon from the exact impressions we got in her very first scene. It was more an advertisement of her skills than anything else. Nothing about Omega's character was changed, she was simply a crutch for the Phee advertisement instead of a sexy lamp (in the trope way, y'all, don't be gross) like the rest of the batch. In some ways, it felt like she got negative character development - like she was suddenly early Season 1 Omega again.
Maybe the point was to paralell Supply Run. Omega is safe with Phee like she isn't with Fennec - the last adult human woman to play a major role in the batch's lives other than the Martez sisters who were already proven allies to the audience (and if I shipped Hunter with any adult human woman it would be Rafa, but that's neither here nor there). But there were better ways to have shown that. Maybe the point was to set the batch up for more treasure hunting adventures in the rest of the season. Maybe that's important enough to need context later on. But there were better ways to have done that.
I'm also worried that if this episode is completely filler and irrelevant to the rest of the season, that's going to reflect on how fans treat Phee, which is going to impact whether or not we see her again. I'd really like to see her again - in this show or in others - but that's not going to happen if the writers and showrunners make all her screen time extraneous to the plot.
TL;DR: We have no plot, no point, no character development, just a handful of things that might be relevant later on and already concerning treatment of a promising Black female character by the production team. And I, personally, have a gut feeling we're going to get a poorly written romance that may very well actually doom the show if people react to it like they have to this episode.
But there's always next week, and I will choose to have hope things improve until they noticeably don't. 🤞

I feel like they’re almost certainly trying to set up some sort of Tech/Phee romance and I don’t know how to feel about it.
Like on the one hand, it’s ridiculous because are they really going to have their one adult human woman character of the season’s entire arch be a romance? If there were more woman main characters it would be fine but she’s pretty much the only one.
But on the other hand... I feel like I could like it maybe, if they develop a couple hundred significant things. Like it has the potential to be beautiful.
Like if you think about it, all we have for buildup is Phee flirting with Tech, and Tech glancing after her once. So, things we need in order for this to even vaguely make sense:
- them to have an actual serious conversation
-or a non serious one, I’m not picky, but a conversation that helps them to understand each other a bit more.
- We need reasons. Why does she like him? Why does he like her? They don’t have to say it explicitly, but give us something to drive their story. She needs to give him something emotionally that he can’t get from his brothers
- which brings me to my next point, Tech doesn’t run on the same emotional train track as the others. I’m not pulling this out of my ass, he literally had the “Just because I express emotions differently doesn’t mean I don’t feel them” speech with Omega. This is something they could have Phee understand more than the others.
- if they just develop literally everything more, I’d honestly be ok with it. but star wars isn’t exactly known for handling it’s romantic arcs well or realistically so I’m worried
