Good morning 🦋
I got up at 6am to do the moth trap and have all my flappy friends released and safely hidden under leaves or logs when the rain arrived.
& Friends, it was worth it. Behold the antennas on this male spongey moth. BEHOLD THEM!!
May your weekend be as fantastic as this moth's antennas.
This moth is considered a pest reportable to forestry services in some countries/regions. Luckily it's not a problem in my area, and this majestic floof flew on about its day.

Some more delicate, pearlescent box tree moths for your motivational moth enjoyment.
This moth was accidentally introduced to the UK in 2007, and it's generally described in very unflattering terms and as a pest on ornamental box trees. Which is fkn rude tbh - the moth didn't ask humans to transport it around the globe in their ridiculously faffy topiary. It's just doing what moths do, living it's best life, and I think it's beautiful regardless.
May we be loved even if we destroy the occasional over-pruned bit of twiddly-ass hedging. (& I would also like to be pearlescent)

Team moth
After risking my neck (or maybe just my pride) seeking out rare moths in the Avon Gorge I had a couple of much more passive encounters on a camping trip to the New Forest.
First up, I only had a brief glimpse of it but I think I might have spied a scarlet tiger moth flying past.
Then there was a green carpet moth, which we spied hanging out on the window of the shower block like a jade green peeping Tom.

And one evening I helped a buff ermine like this one to vacate its very dangerous hiding place near the door of the same shower block.

Next time we go camping I might just take a white pillowcase and see what’s attracted to a makeshift moth trap. Oh, and my camera so I have my own photos - that would be useful!

Good morning live from the moth trap, where I'm *trying* to release the moths but uhhh... Apparently some of them want their weekend lie-in 🤷 Most relatable moth ever! Just nopes and climbs right back to bed 😂
This one is a dusky thorn, holding its wings in that characteristic thorn moth way.
May we all get the rest we need this weekend.

Please enjoy the delightful antennas of these male spongey moths while I wait for spring and moth season.
This species is a relatively infrequent visitor in my area of the UK. In some countries/regions it's considered a pest on trees, but it's not reportable here - so these glorious beasts went on their way after I logged their visits
May we all have moments of looking this magnificent 💖🦋

Another variety of chonk - broad secret mustard. Or broad-bordered yellow underwing if you're being formal.
This species has sex dimorphism in colour- the sandy colour means they're a female. This one has only one antenna, but still keeps it preened. Also note their delightful stripey legs💖🦋
This moth eats weeds like dock and nettle. Please leave a little weedy space in your garden if you have one, to help feed this delightful beast. Thank you from the Moth Promotional Board 🦋✨
