Even though it was a very quick scene, I loved when Piper said ‘We have a wedding to plan’. Alex seemed like she was in a mixture of happiness, surprise and almost in a state of disbelief that this was actually happening. That they were actually engaged. She had to stop and take a deep breath before she could reply ‘in 4 years...when I get out’. It was a sweet scene and really proved how much Piper had grown and how into their relationship she really is.

I completely agree :) Just look at Alex’s face here....Have you ever seen that look on her face before? It's like she was mentally pinching herself in disbelief :)

Vauseman (I think this is their ship name... Piper and Alex)

What made you ship it?

They had really good chemistry starting from the early part of Season 1. It was obvious that Piper was in deep denial about what she really wanted and you could feel the UST as the show continued. I mean Vauseman are kind of the DNA of Piper’s entire arc/the overall OITNB story if you think about it. If they had never met, Piper wouldn’t be in jail and her whole life would probably be some boring WASPy story where she never learned anything. Meanwhile Alex would also have a depressing and cynical life. It was a mixture of the great acting/chemistry between Taylor Schilling and Laura Prepon that sold me on them plus no matter what ups and downs they have, it’s clear that there’s no one could understand them better than the other. 

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I love how despite being from almost polar opposite backgrounds they are drawn to each other like magnets and they actually find that they have so much in common. Normally, there’s no way two people like Alex and Piper would ever have even met in real life. The banter between them is really cute and hilarious at times, especially when they’re just teasing each other. I also love how fiercely protective they are of each other and the intensity of their feelings towards each other. 

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

It’s common for fandom to call them toxic but overall I don’t think it is, once they get past their rocky moments. It’s definitely no more toxic than most of the relationships in the series. I think that while they definitely do have their toxic/unpleasant moments, a lot of the critics and detractors don’t acknowledge how much they improved overall as a couple and learned how to be a supportive team later on. They went through a lot together and they changed a lot as people for the better.

OITNB SEASON 7 SPOILER AHEAD *about Vauseman*

This fucking retcon game that OITNB is playing is fucking DISGUSTING.

ALEX PEARL VAUSE has been MADLY IN LOVE WITH PIPER ELIZABETH CHAPMAN for well over 10 YEARS.

Even when they were apart, even when they hated each other, even when they BOTH said that they couldn't do it anymore, Alex loved Piper.

JUST LAST FUCKING SEASON Alex sold her services to Carol SPECIFICALLY to protect Piper. The whole reason this McCullough affair storyline was possible was because Alex stepped in the line of fire TO. SAVE. PIPER.

HOW ARE THEY SERIOUSLY GOING TO EXPECT US TO FUCKING BELIEVE THAT ALEX WOULD BECOME INFATUATED WITH MCCULLOUGH AFTER EVERYTHING SHE HAS BEEN THROUGH FOR PIPER AND WITH EVERYTHING SHE AND PIPER HAVE BUILT?! And let’s not even talk about how the cheating due to insecurities thing has been overplayed A MILLION TIMES, in three instances now on OITNB ALONE. 

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT, WHAT’S NEXT?

Well, what SHOULD have been next was definitely for Alex to struggle with inheriting Carol’s good favor, but for VAUSEMAN their struggles should not have been so simple. They have already overcome the “should we be should we not be” question. They have already done the “I don’t deserve you” thing. Piper left Alex with their relationship pretty goddamned SOLID. So if they wanted to show how relationships change from prison, this time with Piper on the outside, GREAT! THAT’S IMPORTANT! Have Piper repeat LARRY’S mistakes from S1 and  have her catch herself doing it! But ultimately this send-off should have been one of the easiest parts of the season because the rest of the storylines were so heightened, dramatic, and painful that Vauseman easily could have been the Bennett/Daya of S1, bringing some levity and sweetness to the season.

Now let's also talk about retcon.

Y'all remember in season fucking ONE Alex told Piper that she doesn’t do the nesting thing, that that was never her. In season fucking TWO we saw Alex with Sylvie and Alex apologized for Sylvie attacking Piper because she’s “new to the whole relationship thing. I don’t really know all the rules.” But in this season all of that is completely tossed aside as we see a VERY conventional Alex and Sylvie just before Alex and Piper meet for the first time. This retcon DESTROYS Alex’s character because it looks like Piper was a fling to get back at Sylvie or because her relationship with Sylvie wasn’t going how she wanted it. This OBLITERATES Alex’s laissez faire, fuck conventional life structures philosophy.

There are SO many things wrong with the Vauseman storyline of season 7 that I really could go on but I don’t want to take away from the shine of the rest of the season. It’s the absolutely outstanding quality of the rest of the storylines, however, that makes Vauseman’s disrespectful send-off all the more infuriating, however, because season 7 truly was a masterpiece with their themes and political representations. I’m just really disappointed that THIS is their send-off. Jenji and the team REALLY couldn’t just let Alex and Piper enjoy the fruits of their hard work and have a solid relationship with the difficulties one would expect of a long distanced (specifically prison) relationship. This was supposed to be a grande farewell for the people who have dedicated so much time and energy to the show and it really feels like the Vauseman fans were told to suck it.

Vauseman Predictions Season 7: I know I’m beating a dead horse but...

Its going to be really interesting to see how Piper and Alex cope with being apart especially because they are separated by distance and time. This is going to be their true test of their growth and their relationship. The only contact they can have now is either writing to each other, a phone call, visits limited to placing their hands against the glass because that’s the extent of their physical contact.

Now I know Im beating this horse to death guys but Kubra is a loose end that think they really need to tie up and I’m telling you it’s not too late for him to come back in some way. Next season Piper will probably be working to build a life for her and Alex. She’ll probably stay with Cal and Neri for a while and they’ll help her get a job. I don’t know why waitressing comes to mind but that seems most likely for her.

But just think it would be the perfect “Oh shit” moment  for them especially after everything had been so smooth sailing. Let’s say Piper is working as a waitress, how fucked would it be if Kubra were to walk in as just a regular customer. He doesn’t recognize Piper right away but Piper recognizes him and after a while, while servicing his table Kubra figures out who she is and he might say something that’s subliminally threatening towards her or maybe Alex.

What’s going to be hard for Piper is her decision to tell Alex or not, say maybe at visitation. Alex can always tell when something is wrong with Piper and is definitely not going to believe her if she says everything is fine. If Piper does tell Alex this is going to create anxiety on both sides. Alex can’t do anything to protect Piper from behind bars and Piper can’t protect Alex on the inside but knowing Piper she might try to “handle” it and might choose to get involved in something one more time for Alex’s sake. This will cause Alex to stress the fuck out because we all know that Piper is really bad at plans and this time this is something that could possibly get her killed. Alex might be desperate enough to even encourage her to just go to the police and let them handle it instead.

While Piper is trying to do away with Kubra as a her main priority I can see her maybe also trying to expose the justice system and maybe even tag team with Caputo to help Taystee and Blanca as well.

Meanwhile Alex will be trying to cope with things on the inside probably shutting down Madison’s bullshit every now and then. Things are going to be really difficult for her because if Kubra’s out there she will have to go to her bunk every night hoping that her wife won’t end up dead. She maybe wants to believe that Piper can “handle” it but honestly she can’t help but see that this will only go one way and that’s Piper getting herself killed.

Seeing how this is the last season I want to believe that they’re going to go all out with this and of course a lot of storylines will get resolved. And I’m hoping it does end with an ending monologue of Piper reading from her book living in an apartment with Alex showing snippets of what happened to everyone. It would be a good way to end the series because think about it, in season one how do we know Piper’s opening monologue wasn’t actually Show!Piper reading the opening chapter from the book she wrote after she got out in season 6 and finally wrote and published in season 7. The events of seasons 1 through 7 could’ve all just been one big flashback with Piper’s opening monologue being the segue into this series.

Because you mentioned OITNB in my previous ask -- what do you think of the way Vauseman was handled in season 4? We got a marriage proposal, but did you think the way it was done stayed true the characters and their relationship?

Honestly as much as I like Vauseman I think they rushed the marriage proposal���yet it was such a reckless Piper thing to think up. She’s definitely the type who would be like…okay, we’re in the middle of a prison riot but I’m feeling passionate so marriage has got to be on the table and act first without thinking. Girl gets caught in her emotions at the most unusual times and usually after she’s been through something traumatic (this time it was Piscatella’s battle with Red that seemed to have spurred her on the most). Alex’s reaction was also very…her - sarcastic, trying not to show that she’s secretly into it. 

Aside from that I enjoyed how they’ve been portraying them as a team - this season and the second half of Season 4 have shown them acting as a true team more than they ever have. Actually it may be my favourite portrayal of Vauseman we’ve ever seen - the most positive, mutual and strong from both sides. They’ve been bickering but mostly a light-hearted, old married couple bickering. I’ve seen fans say that Alex seemed pissed off at her, especially in the bunker in the final episode but to me it seemed everyone especially Alex was basically exhausted, stressed and scared giving the situation. Hence the reason why she was lashing out at Piper. Given the fact she’s just been tortured essentially, that reaction was very natural. That last shot of the prisoners in the bunker was very emotionally moving - Piper and Alex’s pose basically sums up where there relationship is at the moment. In spite of all the turmoil they’ve been through, when their life is in danger, their priority is each other and they truly love each other.
