When you get way too in to the paintball/capture the flag game that decides your teacher's fate that you think the game's over once you surrender to the last remaining person on the other team BUT YOU ALL COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT A CLASSMATE WHO SNATCHED THE DAMN FLAG ALREADY.

By that, it means everyone forgot that Ren was still in during the civil war until AFTER Karma surrendered. Ren was just waiting to snatch the flag and decided to watch to see how it played out, claiming it "looked too important to interrupt".
