The grotethe campaign has very little shipping in it, for me at least the characters are not really shippable with each other
So I was taken aback with infinights when the shipping was so strong lol, literally almost all the party members have some kinda chemistry. I don't ship Gum Gum with anyone romantically, tho, feels iffy. For me? Team Budd OTP~

I think the TF2 one where they depict him as a Soldier jumping in front of a sentry nest after pushing Hightower's payload is better

Even though a record number of kids died from the flu last year, the percentage of children getting flu shots continues to plummet. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Wednesday that as of Nov. 30, just over a third of U.S. kids — 37% — had gotten flu shots, down from 43% at the same time last year. The downward trend worries pediatricians who are starting to see an uptick in flu cases. “I always have a little bit of dread when flu season is around the corner,” said Dr. Kristina Bryant, a pediatric infectious disease doctor at Norton Children’s in Louisville, Kentucky, “because children experience illness and suffering during flu season, and much of that can be prevented through vaccination.” Just over half of kids, 55%, got the flu shot during the 2023-24 season, the lowest rate in 12 years, said Alicia Budd, head of the CDC’s domestic influenza surveillance team. “Flu coverage had been slowly increasing” before Covid hit, Budd said. “Flu vaccination levels have not rebounded to pre-pandemic levels.” This year’s flu shot covers the two main strains of the virus circulating so far, H1N1 and H3N2.

First of all, if Hell existed, I’d be going there for laughing at this meme.
Secondly, if I played TF2 and this happened to me, I’d use the grenade taunt so I can take the false-flagger with me.
Budd Doe caught pushing the payload on hightower. instead of accepting his ban, jumps directly into the enemy teams sentry nest.

It's here, the most wonderful time of year! Curl up with hot chocolate and a warm blanket and these fics! Make sure you leave creators some love!
❄️ Day 1 Reveals ❄️
Unexpected Places
[David/Patrick, M, 11,012 words]
The last thing David expected, or wanted, was for a phone call from his sister to interrupt his viewing of 'The Holiday' and drag him out into the Canadian mountains after her car breaks down. Add to that the worsening snowstorm as he travels further north and Alexis accepting a complete stranger's invitation to wait in his cabin until David can get to her and the day has taken a very different and highly unwelcome turn than the one he was anticipating.
But then he meets the stranger, and perhaps he can forgive Alexis this one. After all, he's seen the film before but Patrick is new.
*❄️*
David Rose and the Gingerbeard Man
[David/Patrick, M, 5,300 words]
David Rose has exceedingly low expectations of the Elmdale Christmas Street Party. After visiting the Kristkindlemarkts of Austria, Germany and Northern France, revelling in artisan wares and unique delicacies, he doubts anything can live up to the festive romance he experienced in his twenties.
Best Budd, Stevie, refuses to let David wallow through his second Christmas in Schitt's Creek.
Lured by the smell of baked goods and a smattering of tasteful stalls, David meets a gingerbeard man who makes him feel gooey inside. But David doesn't like gingerbread....orr gingerbeards. Does he?
*❄️*
Late Fees and Future Dreams
[Patrick & Johnny, G, 2,600 words]
While helping out at the church’s rummage sale, Patrick meets a well dressed man with horrible taste in gifts.
*❄️*
[podfic] Odd Man Rush
[David/Patrick, M, 31:56]
After the game, David intercepted Patrick on Patrick’s way back to the locker room. Stevie snapped photos as Patrick pulled David into a kiss. He held onto his stick in one hand, the wood precariously close to knocking David in the head, and the other pulled David into him by the ass, the glove lost in the blue and white of the jersey David was wearing, the name “BREWER” stamped loud and proud on his back.
Or, David is a hockey BF.
Odd Man Rush: An attacking move where the defense is outnumbered by the opposing team.

Could you please provide a list of each one of the power pills friends/ other important people from their part of the webcomic? i keep getting confused between each character friends….😭
:D
OC INFORMATION REQUESTED
Okay this is gonna be a long one strap in.
Also, have a little key for how important to the plot all the characters are
MAIN CHARACTER/VILLAIN | MAJOR PLAYER | MEDIUM PLAYER | MINOR PLAYER | JUST THERE TO GIVE A CHARACTER A FRIEND
TEAM SOUL SEER
CALEB BUDDE | SOUL SEER
The first member of the Power Pills. He's shy, awkward, and is somehow the unofficial leader of the Power Pills. Mostly everyone looks to him to make the final call on stuff because he's been around the longest.
GUY FOUST
Caleb's roommate and best friend. Went with Caleb during his first superhero mission and got physically shot while there.
KATE DHANANI
A friend of Guy's who eventually became a friend of Caleb's. She's the martial arts trainer for the Power Pills.
AVERY RODRIGUEZ
The first supervillain created by Future Tech. He's 16 years old and was given to Future Tech as an experiment by his parents in exchange for promotions.
TRAVIS BIRMAN
Guy's childhood friend and Merri's boyfriend. He's just the only friend character who doesn't know that his friend is a superhero.
TEAM WAX GUISE
DAN WIRSCH | WAX GUISE
The second member of the Power Pills. He's the literal embodiment of a theater kid. Despite his energetic and carefree attitude, he's one of the smartest members of the team.
JASON KENDI
Jason is Dan's roommate and the go-to costume designer for the Power Pills. He's a MASSIVE nerd and loves doing closet cosplay. He seems to have some kind of connection to Lightbringer.
LUCY CIPHER
The manager (and drum player) of Dan's band. She matches him in energy and personality.
NICO HYLAND
Lucy's fiancee and the keyboardist for Dan's band. He's the type to sit back and listen to Lucy's energetic ramblings for hours.
MAX ARMIJO
Dan's second roommate and lead guitarist for Dan's band. He's a more successful actor than Dan and does his best to help Dan get roles.
TEAM BULLETPROOF
MERRI BODKIN | BULLETPROOF
The third member of the Power Pills. She's a sweet-hearted individual with boundless optimism. She's the heart of the group. However a lot of her personality DOES come from the fact that she's a Catholic and her suppressed frustration tends to come out when she's fighting as Bulletproof in the form of a SUPER brutal fighting style.
AMBER LUPE
One of Merri's best friends. She is just as kind and sweet as Merri, but much less energetic.
PERCY VAN STONE
Merri's foil. She is energetic, she is bold, she loves everything Merri hates.
TEAM QUICKWIT
KRISTY EDA | QUICKWIT
The fourth member of the Power Pills and the resident "basically normal guy but with a bow" of the team. She's an independent artist trying to make it in the art world.
GEMMA VOSS
The sculptor to Kristy's painter. She has almost no shame and has no problems both speaking and acting her mind.
JAKE WESTLAKE
Probably also an artist of some kind but we haven't seen them do any sort of art so I'm not sure. They're relentlessly supportive of their friends.
TEAM STREAMLINE
Hahaaaa oh god sorry, Tate.
TATE PALMER | STREAMLINE
Tate is the fifth member of the Power Pills as well as the most energetic. She's a massive cosplayer and makes her living selling her work online.
TEAM THE WEB
(boy that one doesn't have a ring to it at ALL, does it)
SIBYL DEMIR | THE WEB
Sibyl is the sixth and newest member of the Power Pills. He's the resident scientist, studying biology. He's been through a lot, but once he settles into a network of supporting friends, he reveals that he is a a snarky, strong-willed man.
SEBASTIAN CROWL
A superpowered cult member who saved Sibyl and Caleb's lives when they were captured. He sacrificed himself to help the two of them escape. His status is unknown though he reassured Sibyl that the cult wouldn't kill him.
BENNY O'KEEFE
Benny is Sibyl's biology teacher and is the person who helped Sibyl through the darkest moment of his life.
VINNY RAMONE
Not seen onscreen, but he's Sibyl's ex.
JENNA BEGER
Sibyl's childhood friend who tried to trade away his life in order to join The Cult of Lacrima. Her status is also unknown.
TEAM ███████
MATT NOTTON
The recipient of the Pink Pill who needs to be put on a GODDAMN LEASH. The only pill candidate who decided to use their powers for selfish reasons.
DAMIEN BRIDGES
A man that Matt kidnapped in an attempt to learn how to control his powers. He's... god he's still there.
DALTON RENTFRO
Matt's teammate and a MASSIVE Matt hater.
OTHERS
????? | LIGHTBRINGER
The person who gives out the pills to the candidates. He's stoic but generally friendly.
??????
Only called "Scarecrow Lady" in comic so far, this is the woman who broke into Merri's dressing room in book 3 trying to kidnap her. Caleb erased her memory of their identities but she hinted that she had something "Way better" than her memories.
LONDON KURTZ
A mean girl who peeked in high school. She is obsessed with status.
PHYLLIS WORRALL
One of London's obligatory lackeys. The other of which, Lilith, apparently left London very recently for unknown reasons and has not been seen onscreen.
KRAVEN GREEVES
The owner of the martial arts dojo that the Power Pills train at. He knows what's going on with the superheroes, but he knows it's not his place to say anything.
And I reached the maximum number of images I can put on a post apparently so I have been hard capped here.
Btw if you want to see or ask more about my OCs you should check out @bookfanocs. I don't post much on there but you never know when I'll be inspired.

Hello, I just want to say I'm getting most of my film recs from you. And I was wandering, have you seen any fioms that aren't western that you would recommend. I just don't know where to start. Anyways, have a nice day.
hi!!! that means so much to me— i love sharing the movies i’m passionate about, and it means a lot when people tell me that they check out a movie because of me 🥹
by non-western films, i’m assuming that you mean films not from the US or from western european countries— if that’s not the case, please let me know!!
i actually haven’t seen a ton of non-western movies myself, and that’s something i’d like to address!! but as far as non-western films i HAVE seen and enjoyed, here’s some that i’ve recently seen or ones that are still memorable:
promare— japan, anime, action/scifi. follows the adventures of galo, an enthusiastic member of a team of firefighters facing off against a terrorist group of pyromancers known as the mad burnish. as galo learns more about the mysterious leader of the burnish, lio, galo comes to question the way burnish are treated in society and if lio’s actions are truly in the wrong.
perfect blue— japan, anime, horror/thriller. mima, a retired j-pop idol, is being stalked as she pivots to an acting career. she loses her grip on reality as a series of strange, violent events begin to happen around her, including a vision of her own former idol self.
sweet home- japan, horror. when a film documentary crew sets foot in the mansion of a notorious deceased artist to research and create a tv special about his frescoes, they awake a dormant evil. this movie is notable because its tie-in video game was a direct inspiration for the resident evil series!
noroi: the curse— japan, horror. this is kind of a found footage/mockumentary style film that starts as an exploration of a purported “curse” and the strange events surrounding it, and then escalates to become something absolutely wild and ABSOLUTELY terrifying.
beau travail— france/djibouti, drama/thriller. while this film’s director, claire denis, IS french, she grew up in colonial french africa, and this film as well as many of her others explore west african culture and issues. in beau travail, the disgraced french legion sergeant galoup recounts the tale of his fall from grace and his cardinal sin of betraying one of his own, a beautiful, kind, and noble young cadet named sentain. this film is a loose adaptation of herman melville’s story billy budd, and it also explores the ongoing effects of the french legion’s presence in djibouti!
nosferatu— silent film (made in germany), horror. if you’re interested in learning about film history at all, western or otherwise, you can’t NOT look at the german expressionist movement! this is a classic, quintessential vampire story— in fact, nosferatu was made as a dracula ripoff when the director FW murnau was not permitted to make an ACTUAL film adaptation of dracula.
metropolis— silent film (made in germany), scifi. this is another legendary entry in the german expressionist movement! in a far-off, hyperindustrialized future, the richest people in metropolis live high above the ground, oblivious to the constant, dehumanizing labor and miserable conditions that are endured by the workers living down below. a sweet, naive young boy from the upper levels named freder finds his way down into the guts of the city, and he is awakened to the suffering of his fellow man and begins to agitate for a workers’ revolution. the work and effects in this movie are BEYOND impressive, especially for something that’s nearing 100 years old!!!
good manners— brazil, horror/fantasy with some musical elements. in são paulo, a poor nurse named clara manages to secure a job as a house sitter, nurse, and nanny to a rich single soon-to-be mother named ana. as the two of them begin to fall in love, ana recounts the story of her baby’s father, and reveals that both he and her unborn child are werewolves. this is a gorgeous, sensitive, and original take on the werewolf genre, and the creature effects are amazing!
RRR— india, musical/action/epic. this is kind of a fictional “what-if” scenario about the meeting of two real-life indian revolutionaries. bheem is a man from a tribe living traditionally in the jungles of india; raju is living as one of the only indian members of the occupying british forces, a traitor to his own people. by rights, the two should hate each other— but they meet while cooperating to rescue a child and become best friends instead, neither one aware of their true identities or motives.
zindagi na milegi dobra— india, comedy/road trip movie. three childhood friends meet up to go on an adventure before one of them gets married, and along the way, they each find the courage to do something that they’ve always wanted to do, like skydive or run with the bulls in spain!!
monkey man— india, action. an anonymous young man going only by the name Kid undertakes a years-long revenge quest in order to avenge his family and village, long ago destroyed by a fascist quasi-religious leader. this film has a lot of american influences/people working on it, but given that its director and star dev patel has indian heritage and that the film deals so squarely with indian culture and politics, it felt fair to include it here.
flee— denmark/afghanistan, partially animated, drama/biopic. amin, an openly gay man living in denmark, arrived there as an unaccompanied minor from afghanistan when he was a teenager. using a combination of documentary-style interview footage with amin and animated recreations, flee tells the story of his exodus from his home and of his coming to terms with his identity.
i hope that at least one or two of these sounds interesting to you!! and if you meant something different by non-western (ex ANY non-english film, just films that aren’t from the US), please let me know and i might have some alternate recs for you :)

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
March 22, 2024
HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
MAR 23, 2024
As expected, Trump’s team has reorganized the Republican National Committee’s donation system, arranging for maximum donations to go first to Trump’s presidential campaign, then to Trump’s Save America political action committee, and finally to the RNC to elect down ballot candidates. The Save America PAC pays Trump’s legal bills. So far in 2024 it has spent $8.5 million on them. In essence, this new flow means Trump is using the RNC to raise money that is then diverted to him.
This morning, conservative lawyer George Conway suggested that “we should stop defiling the memory of the party of Lincoln by referring to the current organization” as the Republican Party.
Midnight tonight was the deadline for the continuing resolution that was funding much of the government, and the House finally passed the necessary appropriations bills this morning, just hours before the deadline, by a vote of 286–134. Democrats put the bill over the top, adding 185 yea votes to the 101 Republicans voting in favor of the bill. In a blow to House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), 112 Republicans joined 22 Democrats to vote against the measure..
As soon as the bill passed, Johnson recessed the House until April 9.
Because the deadline to prevent a government shutdown was so tight, the Senate needed to take the House measure up immediately. But Senate rules mean that such a quick turnaround needs unanimous consent, and right-wing senators refused to give it.
Instead, Republican senators Ted Budd (NC), Mike Lee (UT), Ted Cruz (TX), and Rand Paul (KY) demanded votes on extremist amendments to try to jam Democrats into a bind before the upcoming election. If the amendments passed, the government would shut down for the purely mechanical reason that the House can’t consider any amendments until it gets back to work in April. So the Democrats would certainly vote against any amendments to keep the government open. But this would mean they were on record with unpopular votes in an election year.
The demand for amendments was partisan posturing, but the delay was particularly nasty: Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), who was a key negotiator of the bill, needed to get back to Maine for her mother’s funeral.
In the House, the passage of the appropriations bill and the recess prompted significant changes. Representative Kay Granger (R-TX) announced she is stepping down from chairing the Appropriations Committee.
Another Republican representative, Mike Gallagher of Wisconsin, announced he will leave Congress early, stepping down on April 19. Gallagher is chair of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party and has voiced frustration with the current state of his party. His absence will shave the Republican House majority to just one vote, and the timing of his departure means he will not be replaced this session. Wisconsin law leaves any vacancy after the second Tuesday in April until the general election.
Representative Ken Buck (R-CO) announced last week that he, too, was leaving Congress early, complaining that “[t]his place has just evolved into…bickering and nonsense.” Today was his last day in the House. Before he left, he became the first Republican to sign on to the discharge petitions that would bring Ukraine aid to the floor even without House speaker Johnson’s support.
Despite the frustration of their colleagues, extremist Republicans are not backing down. After the appropriations measure passed, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) told reporters she has filed a motion to vacate the chair to punish Johnson for permitting the bill to pass without more extremist demands. Her threat will hang over the two-week break, but it is not clear what the House will do with her motion; they might simply bottle it up in committee.
Greene might not push a vote on the speaker right now in part because of pressure from her colleagues to cut it out. They understand that the extraordinary dysfunction of the House under Republicans’ control is hurting them before the 2024 election, and another speaker fight would only add to the chaos. There is also the reality that with such a small majority, Johnson would have to rely on Democrats to save his speakership if it were challenged, and a number of them have suggested they would vote to keep him in the chair if he would agree to bring a vote on aid for Ukraine to the floor.
Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) told CNN that he would “make common cause with anybody who will stand up for the people of Ukraine, anybody who will get desperately needed humanitarian assistance to Gaza, and anybody who will work for a two state solution. I’m up for conversations with anybody.”
The cost of Johnson’s withholding of assistance for Ukraine is mounting. Last night, Russia launched the largest barrages of missiles and drones since its war began at Ukraine’s power grid, leaving more than a million people without power and degrading Ukraine’s energy sector. The Institute for the Study of War assessed today that “continued delays in Western security assistance…are reportedly expected to significantly constrain Ukraine‘s air defense umbrella,” leaving Ukrainian forces unable to defend against missile attacks. Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky once again begged for aid, saying: “Russian missiles do not suffer delays in the way aid packages to our country do. Shahed drones are not affected by indecision like some politicians are.”
Ukraine has been using drones to attack Russia’s oil refineries, but Russia had a new problem today as a deadly attack on a Moscow concert hall claimed at least 60 lives. The Islamic State's Afghan branch, known as ISIS-K, which advocates for civilian mass-casualty events to weaken governments, claimed responsibility for the attack.

a harder ask:
you're on a cursed work retreat at a very vague place of work which i have not decided. as part of the retreat, you have to do team-building exercises. one of these exercises is an outdoor scavenger hunt. you're picked last (sorry) so you get to join whichever pair you want to. whoever wins gets a really good prize. pick the pair you'd be most likely to want to join, and the pair you'd least likely want to join:
TK and Carlos who are just married and literally cannot be detached from each other.
Alex Claremont-Diaz and Hunter Huntington III.
Henry Fox and Queen Mary.
Owen Strand and Pez Okonjo.
Roland Schitt and Sebastien Raine.
Paul Strickland and Moira Rose.
Marjan Marwani and the hopeless boyfriend from LS that got stuck in the flying porta-loo.
Mateo Chavez and David Rose.
Johnny Rose and Stevie Budd.
Jonah (as a baby) and Alexis Rose.
Then rank them in order of placings.
This was so much fun and took me way longer than it should have 😅
Would join: Marjan and the boyfriend (Caleb), because Marjan would kick ass and I think the boyfriend would be scared enough of her that her just do what he’s told.
Would absolutely fucking never join: Roland Schitt and Sebastien Raine - I do not have the patience to deal with Roland, and Sebastien is a shit human being
Rankings
1. Marjan and Caleb - as I said, Caleb would likely be scared enough of Marjan to just do what he’s told and would be less of an impediment than, say, Moira. Marjan is good enough to do everything on her own anyway
2. Alex Claremont-Diaz and Hunter Huntington III - ACD’s competitive streak is too strong, plus he’s scrappy and fast. Hunter, while a pretentious wanker, won’t want to be shown up so he will keep up with Alex, while simultaneously driving him mad. They’re slowed down slightly by Alex’s need to rant at and about Hunter periodically. If there are water ways involved, they’ll place lower in the rankings because Alex will push Hunter in.
3. Paul Strickland and Moira Rose - Moira is absolutely a hindrance to Paul, but she is charmed by him and he’s able to get her to cooperate. And if all else fails, he can just throw her over his shoulder. This slows him down just enough (because he tries to get Moira to cooperate for too long before just literally carrying her) that Alex and Hunter finish before he does, but only just.
4. Mateo Chavez and David Rose - okay first, the idea of David having to cope with Mateo is hugely amusing to me. There would be much eye rolling at Mateo’s enthusiasm and many “I don’t know what that means” in response to any and all superhero references. But the thing is, Mateo’s enthusiasm will go a long way, plus he’s a competent fire fighter who is capable of taking charge. And David, for all his protests, is the man who once shot a turkey and also carried his boyfriend up a mountain. If Mateo can give him some direction, I think they’re dark horses
5. Johnny Rose and Stevie Budd - they’ll be slow starters due to Stevie’s general lack of enthusiasm and Johnny bumbling some clues, but much like Steve Bradbury, due to the failure of some teams to complete the game, they finish higher in the rankings than anyone expects - even after Alexis convinces them to join forces so that Johnny can help with Jonah
6. Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor & Queen Mary - poor Henry, as athletic and clever as he is, he’s hampered by the sense of duty and obligation to his family that no amount of time living as Alex’s partner can erase. In this scenario, Mary is nothing but dead weight who will inevitably slow Henry down.
7. Alexis Rose and baby Jonah - assuming that Alexis cannot simply foist Jonah off on an unsuspecting spectator, my fave girl is very resourceful but I do not think she could cope with an infant. Like, at all. Ew.
8. Roland Schitt and Sebastien Raine - does this need an explanation? Roland would misinterpret the clues and Sebastien wouldn’t even try. Roland finishes the game, but hours late.
9. Owen Strand & Pez Okonojo - they start strong but Owen gets distracted by a side quest (does he hear a crime being committed? See a hot blonde he absolutely has no business dating? Could be anything) and once he’s wandered off, Pez finds more leisurely pursuits. They DNF
10. TK & Carlos lose because they don’t complete the game. They get ✨distracted ✨
I feel like almost everyone else you’re sending these too is going to have a much simpler job because they’re not choosing between characters from three fandoms lol

Shooting is underway at locations in Brisbane on A Vintage Christmas, a new romance movie from Jaggi Entertainment and Nicely Entertainment.
Written by Jennifer Snow and directed by Colin Budds, the movie will be distributed by Nicely Entertainment worldwide, excluding Australia, which will be handled by Jaggi Entertainment. Steve Jaggi and Kylie Pascoe are producing. Vanessa Shapiro is the executive producer.
The film stars Canadian actors Merritt Patterson (The Royals) and Christopher Russell (Reacher).
In the small town of Oak Creek, Noah Harrington’s (Russell) unpopular construction plans take a surprising turn when he discovers a cache of old Letters to Santa from the 1990s. Seeing an opportunity for redemption, he enlists the help of town historian, Tessa Findlay (Patterson), to fulfil the long-forgotten Christmas wishes. The pair embark on a heartwarming journey, rekindling the spirit of Christmas in the community, and before too long, an undeniable spark develops. But Noah is hiding a secret: Tessa’s own childhood wish is among the letters. Can Noah salvage his job and the love of his life with a Christmas wish?
Patterson commented: “I’m delighted to be back in Brisbane filming A Vintage Christmas with the Jaggi Entertainment team. I feel very at home here.”
Jaggi said: “It’s fantastic to be back in production here in Queensland. The Jaggi Entertainment team has a busy year ahead, and we’re thrilled to have Merritt and Christopher on board, along with our talented production team to create some Christmas magic.”
Shapiro, Nicely Entertainment’s CEO and executive producer, added: “We are thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with the whole production team at Jaggi Entertainment as this marks our tenth movie together! This is going to be a beautiful Christmas film, and we’re excited to have both Merritt and Christopher starring in A Vintage Christmas. We cannot wait to share it with audiences around the world!”
Screen Queensland’s chief creative officer, Dr. Belinda Burns, said A Vintage Christmas will be 100 percent made in Queensland with the support of the Screen Finance program and Post, Digital, Visual Effects (PDV) Incentive. “We are excited to see production underway on the latest film by Brisbane’s own Jaggi Entertainment. We are proud to provide end-to-end support in Queensland, with filming through to post-production taking place exclusively in our state. The film delivers benefits on a local scale, injecting a minimum $1.25 million into the local economy and providing employment for Queensland cast and crew. We are committed to supporting Queensland-based production companies like Jaggi Entertainment, who generate locally retained IP which reaches international audiences.”

LOGAN CLARINGTON
☆ FULL NAME: Logan Oliver Clarington ☆ GENDER: Cisman ☆ PRONOUNS: He/Him ☆ AGE: 36 (September 30th, 1988) ☆ TYPE: Full sibling; solo ☆ HOMETOWN: Chicago, Illinois ☆ JOB: Firefighter EMT; part-time Fire Science and Paramedic Studies Professor ☆ SCHOOL: Other ☆ SEXUALITY: Closeted Homosexual ☆ FACECLAIM: Chris Evans
ABOUT LOGAN
(tw: war related violence)
Logan is the eldest of the Clarington siblings and it’s the role he was born to play. He was lonely for a few years there, but quickly flourished as a big brother and human being the second his siblings were brought home. Logan was a happy and fairly popular kid during his childhood, forever playing the role of protector for his younger siblings, but also never missing an opportunity to tease them and pull the occasional prank. He was something of a jock, playing both hockey and basketball in middle and high school thanks to both his height and natural athleticism, but he also learnt to play the guitar and liked to bake, seen as something of a gentle giant amongst his peers.
Family life in the Clarington household isn’t easy, and Logan tries to protect his siblings from the worst of it, but when his mother abandoned them, Logan found himself with a lot of anger. He’d tried to keep his family together, tried to play peacemaker, tried to keep them all happy, but she’d just left with barely a word. It got worse as father proved exactly how useless and pathetic of a parent he was, and by the time they moved in with his grandmother, Logan started getting into fights at school, became sullen and withdrawn, and had, in a fit of anguish and rage at the whole situation, smashed the guitar that his mom had bought him for his eleventh birthday into smithereens. It was his grandmother that found him sat on the floor with his knees pulled to his chest, sobbing into his hands and surrounded by the remains of his guitar, and she’d said nothing, instead pulling Logan into her arms and hugging him tightly until he finally stopped crying.
Logan got a lot of therapy to deal with his parent’s abandonment (and a new guitar courtesy of his grandmother who joked that next time he got mad he should try smashing something a little less expensive to replace), and by the time his high school graduation rolled around he was in a much better place mentally than he once was. Despite his respectable B+ average and basketball scholarship, Logan really wasn’t interested in academics so rather than heading to college, he looked for an alternative, and settled for joining the army.
Logan became a Ranger, and while being away from his family was a little tough, he took comfort in the fact that they were proud of him because really that’s all he’d ever wanted out of life. His first tour of duty was largely uneventful, but towards the end of his second Logan’s company hit an IED in their vehicle and the aftermath was disastrous. Logan lost all but one of the members of his team, took a huge blast and chunk of shrapnel to his left side that sliced through his Kevlar vest like a hot knife through butter, and left him with some pretty gnarly scars. But his injuries were the least of his concern in the moment as he crawled across the sand towards where his friend lay bleeding out, his leg blown clean off, knowing that if he didn’t act quickly he’d lose a hell of a lot more than a limb. Logan managed to fashion a torniquet and did indeed save his friends life, returning home as a hero even if he didn’t feel like it.
He accepted an honourable discharge after six months of recovery and intense physio, having no desire to put himself in the line of fire like that again. He wanted a quieter life for a little while, or at least lower stress, and while it was nice to be back with his family again, Chicago was entirely too busy and loud for him when all he wanted was a little peace and quiet. After feeling a little listless and lacking in direction now that he was home too, Logan decided to take up an army buddies offer to stay with him for a while in Connecticut. It was far removed from the high stress environment of a warzone and the bustling inner city of Chicago, practically suburbia, and while initially bored, Logan found himself landing a job as a 911 dispatcher. It was initially supposed to just be a placeholder job, something for him to do while he figured out what he wanted to do next, it turned out that it was actually something he was quite interested in and passionate about.
He still felt uneasy though, and while he knew some of that was the PTSD he was starting to acknowledge and get help with, it was also partly down to the fact that sitting back and letting someone else do the rescuing didn’t sit right with him. So, he enrolled in the fire academy and took a paramedic course, becoming a firefighter EMT in the space of eighteen months. It was the nearest he came to his army days, and Logan found there was a similar comradery in being a firefighter as there was in being a soldier.
It was on his first run as a fully qualified firefighter EMT that Logan finds himself at the residence of a young woman who was not, in fact, trapped in a burning building or seriously hurt, but is instead a flustered and irritated woman who burnt her toast and couldn’t reach the smoke alarm to silence it. The woman was one Penny Sylvester, and before he left her home he made sure that he gave her his number just in case there was anything else that she couldn’t reach and needed a hand with. They started seeing each other almost immediately, and Logan found that not only was Penny objectively incredibly attractive, she was also sweet and funny, and seemed to understand him in a way that no-one else had ever seemed to no matter how hard they tried. She wasn’t just his girlfriend, she was his best friend too, and maybe that was why he proposed to her in less than a year. They were happy, blissfully so, Logan finding himself with everything that he’d ever wanted: a job that he loved and was passionate about, a wife that he adored, and the promise of a bright and wonderful future in front of him where he’d do everything that he could to be a better partner (and hopefully one day, parent) than his mother ever had been.
Moving to LA with his wife wasn’t the easiest decision, he loved his company in Connecticut, but knowing he’d be back around his family again helped the transition, as did living with his best friend. Logan settled in easily in his new firehouse, but rather than spend a hundred percent of his time out in the field (mostly in attempt to ease Penny’s anxiety over his job) he decided that teaching Fire Science and Paramedic Studies at PSU would be a great way of giving back to the community and inspiring the next generation of firefighters. But it was in LA that cracks started to show in his relationship with Penny.
You see, Logan had been pushing down a lot of emotions and feelings for a very long time now. He couldn’t put his finger on it for the longest time but there was something… off about him. Sure, perhaps the biggest bone of contention between him and Penny was the fact that he really wanted to be a dad, prove that he could it far better than Walter and then some, while she seemed to not have any interest in being a mom, but there was almost something about being with her that felt… wrong. Like he was lying to her, to himself every time he kissed her cheek or told her that she was the hottest woman he’d ever met. Penny was objectively incredibly attractive and sexy, and yet Logan didn’t feel that way about her anymore… not that he’d ever admit that out loud.
Still, life in LA wasn’t that bad, and Penny had placated his paternal urges by letting him get their beagle Zoë, so things were pretty good right now. Logan still bakes, still plays guitar, he surfs and plays volleyball, unable to admit that he fills his time with activities and chores to make sure he doesn’t stop long enough to think in any great amount of detail about how messed up his marriage has become. After all, he’s the eldest of his siblings, he’s the one that’s supposed to be leading by example and showing his siblings the right way to do things, and the right way to do things is wife, 2.5 kids, a dog, and a picket fence. Anything less than that would be letting all of them down and proving Walter right when he said that he would never be man enough to be a father himself.
FAMILY BACKGROUND
Walter Clarington comes from old money and used that as a means of funding his own career in film directing. In contrast, Monica Clarington (nee Peters) is an award-winning photographer who was hired to work behind the scenes for many of Walter’s projects. The two of them eventually married and began popping out babies whenever it was convenient for them career-wise. Any actual love they shared fizzled out when their children were still young, and arguments were a common occurrence behind closed doors.
Eventually, Monica had enough and left the family without another word. Walter struggled to balance his career with the children he was no longer sure he even wanted. He was financially present but his temper often turned towards him yelling at the kids, and they were largely on their own for a couple of years when it came to their emotional wellbeing. In 2002, their paternal grandmother stepped in and took over caring for them. Walter used that as an excuse to become even less involved.
Monica has made a comeback in her children’s lives multiple times over the years, but has never stuck around long enough to give the impression she actually wants to form a relationship.
