Swimming Lessons Saves Lives! When I was a little girl in Hemingway, SC., I remember my mom telling me about these two brothers that drowned. One went too far out and lost control and began sinking in the middle of this man-made river, the other brother lost his life trying to rescue him. That was a very sad day for the community. As I grew up, I've heard more stories very similar, and it's one that will never sit well with my soul. I decided that when I had my kids, I would make sure that all of them knew how to swim before turning 10. Since becoming a doula, I've reconsidered that too! All babies begin life in water. All babies should take lessons sooner then later. Today on the anniversary of my mom's transition, I would again like to encourage all moms to get your child in swimming lessons.
