So I made something…
Sick Day
A tiny Jerin oneshot.
Erin woke up to the sunlight filtering through the windows. It was supposed to be a nice day. She planned on doing things she needed, running errands, cleaning, maybe even taking a walk. The whole day was ahead of her, and she intended to make the most of it.
That is, until she heard the sniffles.
Erin turned worriedly to the lump under the blankets next to her. A box of tissues sat on the bedside table next to it, and a collection of snotty tissues already littered the table and floor.
"Jamie?" Erin called, sitting up. The lump moved and the blankets were pushed aside to reveal the bleary-eyed face of her girlfriend, dyed red hair catching the light of the sun.
Jamie opened her mouth to speak, instead reaching urgently for another tissue and nearly falling off the bed. One sneeze and some nose-blowing later, the older girl finally was able to speak.
"Hey, Erin. How ar-are you this morning?"
"Jamie! How long have you been up?"
"Oh, you know. I don-don't *achoo!* Don't actually know. The plague woke me up."
Erin stood and rushed over to her girlfriend's side of the bed and placed her hand on her forehead. "How long have you been sick? Were you okay yester- Oh my god, you're burning up."
"It's fine. It's jus a cold."
"You have a fever."
"It'll pass."
Jamie tried her best to sit up but Erin gently laid her back down, making sure her pillows were nice and fluffy. "I'm sure it will but for now you're sick. I'll take care of you."
Jamie choked out a laugh that turned into a short coughing fit. "I'm fine, Erin. Please."
"I'm not leaving you to be miserable all by yourself."
Erin stared Jamie down until she gave in. She may be shy but boy was she stubborn.
"Alright, alright. Through sickness and health, right?"
Erin turned away, flustered. "We're not- we're not married."
"Give it time." Jamie gave a pathetic excuse for a wink, which looked ridiculous given that she currently had a tissue stuffed up her nose.
"I'll go get you some water." Erin left the room only to return a minute later with a glass of water and some Tylenol. She set the glass on the nightstand and shook out two pills from the bottle, holding out her hand.
Jamie groaned and turned away.
"Jamie, come on."
"Not even the good stuff," Jamie murmured, half asleep. She grumbled and choked down the pills as Erin gently placed a wet washcloth on her feverish face.
"Do you want some Gatorade? Ginger ale? Soup?"
"No," Jamie croaked. "I just want you to stay with me."
"O-okay." Erin sat back down and turned on the TV. She put on an old Disney movie and laid back. Jamie settled down into the nest of blankets.
Jamie snorted. Well. It was supposed to be a snort. "The Aristocats? Really?"
"What? My mom used to always put on old Disney movies when I was sick. It's comforting."
Jamie grunted.
"What? More of a Barbie girl?"
Jamie sniffed and rolled her eyes. "Oh yes. I was a Barbie girl in a *cough* Barbie world. It's fan-fucking-tastic." She broke into a fit of coughing.
Erin soothed her, stroking her hair. "Calm down, Jame. You need to rest."
"I th- I thought you had things to do today."
"Some people are more important than a nice day."
Jamie grew quiet, and Erin realized she had fallen asleep. The brunette held her and fixed the cloth on her forehead. She chuckled softly under her breath.
"I love you," she whispered minutes before she too fell asleep, head resting on her girl's curly head.
If she knew Jamie was awake then she would never stop blushing.

Update:
Only two made it out alive. 😅 I owned up at fucking up the heart beat and getting Charlie killed (I genuinely missed him by the end), but I'm calling fuzzy buttons on Jamie and Mark!! The curator said good friends (and a chronicler) were essential so why did trying to save Kate get Jamie killed?? And where are you supposed to aim when the killer has Mark pressed against the ax?? She aimed everywhere on him and the reticle never turned red!
Overall, disappointed that we lost not one, but three wholeass characters. Though considering we've managed to keep every other DPA character alive up til now means we were due, I guess. In the end one of each of our characters made it which was funny. But most importantly....
PUBBY WAS SAFE. Connie such a good pupper and I love--
So, no spoilers please since I'm still not 100% done with it but,,,
The Devil In Me is the scariest game I've ever played.
It's unclear if I'm on Act 3 yet since the acts have been kinda weird on this one but I've cried. Twice. The other Dark Pictures Games I've been able to finish in one session with my partner, but this one?? I've had to genuinely stop playing because my nerves were getting so bad. I knew this one was gonna be a stand out but holy hell.
This is also the first Dark Pictures game I've officially lost somebody on first playthrough and I'm so distraught about it. Dx The 'stay calm' sections and I have never gotten along, and in retrospect I should have adjusted the accessibility for those but live and learn-- (Sorry [REDACTED], for me to learn, you had to, uh, not live anymore. 😔)
So to make me feel a little better (or worse, depending), I wanna know how others fared when they first played! How many characters survived your first run of the game?

Thanks again to everyone who contributed to this! Although I said you would be saving me many playthroughs, the truth is, I love any excuse to replay these games, so now I have my list to go through and try for myself (hiding under a cut in case anyone finds it spoiler-y and because of extra thoughts):
Matt and Emily(But everyone else ends up disliking Matt?) Mike and Jessica(?) Chris and Ashley(?) Mike and Sam(?)
Conrad and Fliss (maximizing earns a trophy, Theatrical) Alex and Julia (maximizing earns a trophy, Theatrical, can also have an empty relationship bar) Brad and Alex (maximizing earns a trophy, Theatrical)
Daniel and Taylor (maximizing earns a trophy) John and Angela (maximizing earns a trophy) Andrew and Angela(? Shared Story only? No gun?)
Eric and Rachel (Theatrical, screenshots coming - these two are being difficult omg) Jason and Salim (Theatrical)
Jamie and Erin (Theatrical) Mark and Kate (Theatrical - 2 different ways: Siding with Kate and/or Rekindled, screenshots coming) Charlie and Mark (Theatrical; can also have an empty relationship bar) Charlie and Jamie (Theatrical) Kate and Erin(? Curator's Cut only?) Charlie and Erin(?) (Basically, shout-out to the Lonnit crew for all of their potential)
If I make them happen, I’ll take a screenshot and link it to each pair. Question marks are beside the pairs that I’m extra curious about, but no one has confirmed yet (or these might have been suggested, but were unsure).
And ok, so, in full honesty 🙈 apart from curiosity (which IS true), this was born out of an added mini ulterior motive to see whether Jason and Salim’s ability to max out their relationship meter could be loosely considered canon evidence of romantic feelings*, given that the majority of the pairs listed are either characters who can interact classically-romantically (openly dating, admitting feelings, married, smooching, etc.) or familial. 👀 And they are not the latter. However! There are interesting exceptions that have popped up that I want to look into, such as Mike and Sam (UD), Kate and Erin (TDiM), and Charlie and Mark (TDiM). John and Angela and Andrew and Angela could potentially be considered outliers, too, except there are some Little Hope-specific reasons to still lump the pairs in with one of the two aforementioned categories.
Shout out to Conrad and Fliss for killing my “there are no other examples we have of complete-strangers-before-the-game meeting and being able to max out” angle ;) Also interestingly, and again, relationship bar spoilers: in Theatrical, Conrad and Fliss can max out before Alex and Julia, despite everything going amazingly with the proposal/at every turn and Fliss being mad at Conrad for flirting with her at the start 😬 Although given Julia’s fear-based hallucinations, maybe this isn’t so much of a surprise...
On a related note, I wouldn’t be mad if it turns out there are more potentials for platonic/friends maxing, too! In fact, I’m all here for it and sometimes even prefer it. Yu-Gi-Oh! taught me to believe in the power of friendship, after all!  😤
Update 7/16: Anddd Charlie & Mark and Charlie & Jamie have kind of debunked it! However, I'm happy for Charlie, given that he kind of gets left out of the romantic stuff within TDiM, so he deserves some good relationships, too! TDiM is unique in a few ways that I'll get into in a later post (hopefully), such as being the first game where the characters don't simply start off at neutral with one another.
Fellow TDPA fans! Need help for curiosity's sake (you'll be saving me many playthroughs):
Which pairs of characters in The Dark Pictures Anthology and Until Dawn can potentially max out their relationship meter together in-game (like FULL bar)?
I'm curious if it's a small club or if it's more pairs than I think, and whether the possibilities seem to lean platonic vs romantic. (And if there's already a list somewhere... please send - I tried to look but had no luck)
Please include obvious ones like big romance subplots and ones that are worth a trophy, just so I don't forget anyone 😆 And it's fine if you only know one or two, any help is great
Thank you in advance!

I’ve been talking abt TDIM a lot and no I will not stop
(Spoilers for The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me)
Honestly, I don’t think that Du’Met is supernatural. I haven’t seen this personally but apparently in the curators cut it explains how he got out of the wall trap that the crew set and it explains how he was able to attack the crew on the boat. But that still leaves when he fell off the roof. Realistically it doesn’t make sense that he survived, but it’s fiction, and we all know that fiction bends the rules. There is not much explanation beyond that.
Another part that needs to be addressed is the end of the game where he picked up his mask. I don’t know if that was Du’met. I could be wrong obviously, maybe it is still Munday but personally I think that it’s someone new, someone who has been closely watching and is now going to take on the persona of Du’met.
I do not think that Munday is a reincarnation of Holmes or is possessed by the devil. I do think those are completely valid theories, but I just don’t see it that way. That being said, I can’t really explain the curators list at the end. One thing we do see is the Hector Munday is crossed out, but Du’Met is not. Hector Munday is dead, but Du’met is still alive. This could be because someone else is now Du’met or it could be because Hector “died” when he faked his death and became Du’met. Both Herman Mudgett and H.H Holmes were on the list as well, and the names were crossed off, which to me implies that holmes is not at work as Du’met or is possessing him or anything like that. We see the curator visibly upset near the end of the game, I don’t think that is because Du’met is still alive. I think that Du’met was supposed to die, the curator was supposed to cross out that name, but for some reason he didn’t want to and he ripped out the page, which is what caused his boss or the entity or whatever to get make at him. I haven’t gotten to an ending where Mark complies and gets the next group to come, but I’ve heard that the Curator does not react the same way in that ending. The Curator isn’t upset that Du’met lives, he’s upset that Du’met dies.
I’m sorry if some of this just seemed like rambling or it didn’t make sense. If your opinion of the game and the characters differ from mine than that’s completely valid! Even if I don’t agree with the theories they do make sense. I just think the story is more complying without the supernatural and possession.

Some very amazing thoughts! I especially love your TDIM theory about it having less choices because the characters are less in control. That makes a lot of sense, and fits into the game's theme wonderfully. :)
About Man of Medan and Hidden Agenda (mostly spoiler-free):
In Man of Medan, you spend the entirety of the first act with getting to know the characters. There are a lot of conversations because of this, both optional and mandatory ones. Then they get to the ship and talk about their situation, but once the actions comes around and the characters separate from each other, there isn't really a need for long conversations; which is why there aren't nearly as much in the second and third act. Basically, once you get to know the characters and their goal, you're good to go.
Hidden Agenda is naturally a very dialogue-driven game; the characters constantly exchange their thoughts, which of course makes sense in a crime game. Once they start to put the clues together though, the choices became a little less and it's more about trapping the killer (pun intended). So, their investigation is full of choices, but once it comes to an end, they aren't that necessary anymore. :)
Really wonder how Directive 8020 will approach choices. Will it give us few, but meaningful ones? Or lots of choices to introduce the characters? Personally, I'm fine either way, though I do have a slight preference for long dialogues :)
Supermassive Choices
Have you ever wondered how many choices Supermassive's choice-based games actually have? Well, I did, so naturally, I decided to count them :D
For everyone who just wants the numbers, they are under the cut. For everyone who wants to know which choices I exactly counted, they can look them up in this document. I went for a mix between "good choices" and "maximum choices", so it is possible to make even more ... and it is definitely possible to finish the games with less. This is just an estimate on how many choices each game roughly has during a playthrough where you try to save everyone and get as many choices as possible without being too mean and without missing out on important scenes :)
Little disclaimer: Obviously, the pure amount of choices doesn't necessarily mean anything. A game you like can have few choices and a game you dislike can have a lot. But I still thought it was interesting to know ;)
So now, the numbers!
Until Dawn: 145 (91 in Act 1; 31 in Act 2; 23 in Act 3)
Hidden Agenda: 76 (32 in Act 1; 28 in Act 2; 16 in Act 3)
Man of Medan: 106 (64 in Act 1; 25 in Act 2; 17 in Act 3)
Little Hope: 127 (84 in Act 1; 22 in Act 2; 21 in Act 3)
House of Ashes: 90 (38 in Act 1; 43 in Act 2; 9 in Act 3)
The Devil in Me: 64 (33 in Act 1; 20 in Act 2; 11 in Act 3)
The Quarry: 203 (79 in Act 1; 48 in Act 2; 76 in Act 3)
----------
Until Dawn and The Quarry don't have official acts, but with a little help from @legenspeople, I split them up in a way I thought would fit. :)
So, what do you think? For me, there were definitely some surprises there, like Little Hope being the DPA game with the most amount of choices or House of Ashes and The Devil in Me having roughly as many choices as Until Dawn's/Man of Medan's first act. I was also surprised by how few choices you can have in House of Ashes' and The Devil in Me's third act, and how the overall number of choices usually decreases the farther you are into the game. There are even more interesting details in the listed document, like the chapters with zero choices - feel free to give it a look :)
Overall, this was a fun little project and I hope someone else enjoyed my findings, too :D
(Little Edit: These choices do not necessarily represent my own opinions. Especially with Until Dawn, but also with the other games, I had fun picking some "community choices" ;D)

Yeah so the Jack Green character in TDIM is straight up Jason, who went into acting after he left the military.
