Antoine Fouchet - Bad Boys (1995)

Fouchet is shot in the leg by Detective Sergeant Michael "Mike" Lowrey while attempting to flee, leaving him incapacitated on the ground. Fouchet then draws a gun to try and kill Mike but is immediately shot multiple times in the chest when Mike fires first.

Passable streaming entertainment. The story was better than I expected.

Woo still knows how to stage action sequences. Though the doves are by now a little too cliché.

I like Emmanuel, but she wasn't entirely convincing during the fight scenes. But it's always a challenge to show a woman knocking out a couple of muscular guys.

LE MARGINAL (1983)

Le commissaire Philippe Jordan est un flic aux méthodes expéditives. Encombrant tant pour ses supérieurs que pour ceux qu'il traque, en raison de méthodes souvent peu licites, il ne manque pas d'efficacité. Récemment muté à Marseille, il veut mettre hors d'état de nuire Sauveur Mecacci, un des parrains de la French Connection et pédophile notoire, pour qui Jordan éprouve de la rancœur. Après une poursuite en hélicoptère, duquel il saute sur un bateau, il saisit deux cents kilos d'héroïne qu'il jette à la mer. Jordan est cependant saqué à la suite de la découverte du cadavre d'un indicateur dans son salon pour le faire tomber. Jordan se retrouve alors dans un commissariat de police parisien, un « placard à balais », où il fait équipe avec l'inspecteur Rojinski, l'un de ses amis dans le commissariat.

Jordan reste toujours fixé sur son objectif, coincer Mecacci, et ne néglige aucune piste pour obtenir des témoignages contre celui-ci. Il fréquente donc les lieux les plus mal famés de la capitale, se liant au passage avec Livia Dolores Maria, une prostituée qu'il défend contre ceux qui lui reprochent de parler à un flic. Il compte aussi sur de vieilles connaissances : Francis Pierron, patron d'une salle de boxe qui s'occupe aussi de machines à sous ; « Tonton », qu'il a mis à l'ombre, mais qui accepte de le renseigner à condition qu'il arrache sa fille au squat des Antillais. Ainsi Jordan arrive-t-il à « Freddy le chimiste », ancien complice de Mecacci. Contre une somme rondelette, Freddy accepte de témoigner, mais un des sbires de Mecacci l'élimine. Jordan rattrape le tueur, Marc Villa, qui ne dit rien. Mecacci fait ensuite abattre Francis car il a refusé sa « protection ». Jordan se venge en neutralisant les tueurs lors d'une course-poursuite en voiture.

Contacté par un certain Baldi, Jordan doit arriver jusqu'au caïd, mais il déjoue un piège en neutralisant les tireurs, qui tuent Baldi au passage. Avec l'arme de ce dernier, Jordan va à la rencontre de Mecacci et le tue. Plus tard, Rojinski annonce à Jordan l'assassinat de Mecacci. Celui-ci feint la surprise, se gardant bien de lui dire que c'est lui qui a éliminé l'impitoyable criminel.

Hateration holleration, Anne Parillaud edition:

LA FEMME NIKITA (1990): Vacuous and violent Luc Besson action girl trifle about a druggie punk named Nikita (Anne Parillaud) who's imprisoned for killing a cop and then coerced into becoming an elite assassin for French intelligence by a manipulative older man called Bob (Tchéky Karyo). Released back into the world under the alias Marie Clément, Nikita starts a relationship with a kindly supermarket clerk named Marco (Jean-Hugues Anglade), but every so often, she's called into action to assassinate purported enemies of the state, for reasons she never bothers to figure out. Jean Reno has a scene-stealing supporting bit as the comically murderous "cleaner" Victor. Stylish and hugely influential (even beyond the American remake and later TV series it directly spawned), NIKITA hasn't aged well, and it's hard to miss the movie's misogynist contempt for its heroine (underscored by the final scene, where Bob and Marco discuss Nikita's future with her nowhere in sight!). CONTAINS LESBIANS: Nope. VERDICT: Memorable but not very good, and it hates women the way Joss Whedon hates women.

INNOCENT BLOOD (1992): Disagreeable horror-action hybrid about a female vampire (Anne Parillaud) who decides to chow down on the local Italian mob and ends up creating a (literal) monster (Robert Loggia). Should be fun, but it's just sour and gassy, hitting wrong note after wrong note. Parillaud seems hopelessly out of place (not helped by hair and makeup seemingly styled with a lawnmower), while director John Landis sacrifices every opportunity to make the movie even momentarily scary, sexy, or exciting in favor of nudge-you-in-the-ribs smirking self-awareness, including the obligatory cameos by fellow directors (here Sam Raimi and Frank Oz) and a stupid leitmotif of minor characters watching older, better horror movies on TV. CONTAINS LESBIANS: Nix, and it's unpleasantly misogynistic to boot. VERDICT: The cinematic equivalent of a torn hangnail, and ultimately too rancid even for cheese. Just watch BLADE instead.
