Today we ran our first forty FREAKIN' two kilometers at The Bull Runner Dream Marathon in Nuvali. Woot woot! So many feels on the finish line and so much pain during the last 4k. Hahaha! WE DID IT!!! THANK YOU LORD! This is all You! I totally felt His burning love and protection whenever I called out to Him. Grabe! Felt like He was firing me up and sending angels around who cheered for me with all their might. Hahaha! Galing! Crossing the finish line was overwhelming especially when I had my husband by my side who never gave up. It would've been extra special if we had family greeting us there though. I just cried when I realized that that was it. We're done! We made it!!! Thank you to our dream chaser during the last 195 meters. You were a breath of fresh air! I haven’t read Kafka (only Murakami’s “Kafka on the Shore”), so I really wouldn’t know what anybody means when they say something is “Kafkaesque” (haven’t read Orwell’s “Nineteen Eighty-Four”, either - only his “Animal Farm”, but I have a vague idea what “Orwellian” means). Anyway, I’ve been seeing books by Kafka at National Bookstore (the Schocken Kafka Library editions with eyes on the covers) but didn’t really bother picking any of them up - to my regret. Reading a few pages from “Metamorphosis” has got me hooked! (It helps a lot that I’m in a Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition collecting phase.) ************ Also helps that I love Sammy Harkham’s illustrations depicting scenes from Kafka’s diaries shown on this edition. ************ Needless to say, I’ve placed Kafka in my #tbb (to be bought) queue on my online wishlist. It's been such a very long time since I did a #booktag, but hey I found the opportunity when @i.reads tagged me ages ago to do : #tbr2016 📚. My first read in 2016 will be #SixofCrows by Leigh Bardugo. I'll be buddy reading this book with two of my favorite bibliophiles @thebibliomad @istandforbooks , YAAYYY ! Can't wait because I've heard tons of awesome things about this book and I wanna see for myself .

The book on the right covers a few collections written before 1957, but voracious reader that I am, I want things complete. Not shown are my copies of “Eagle or Sun” and “Early Poems”. Am still waiting for “Figures and Figurations”, created with his wife Marie Jose Paz to arrive in the mail. ************ Gabriel Garcia Marquez: “A torrent of beauty, reflection, and analysis that saturated the century from end to end, and whose great wave will survive us for a long time.” Camilo José Cela: “One of the cardinal points of literature in Spanish.” Mario Vargas Llosa: “The living conscience of his age…” ************ Paz may not have been as prolific as Neruda, but he was equally intense and expansive. Yes, it's that time of the year again. Hard to be proud of the books I've actually managed to finish, which I can count with one hand, though the number of course includes collected volumes of poetry. ************ In 2016 I plan to finish reading all the poetry books I have by Derek Walcott and Gabriela Mistral. Not shown here are Walcott's plays, and "Omeros", "The Bounty", and "Tiepolo's Hound". And much much more, including poetry by local poets in my mother tongue. ************ I don't know if it's just me, but I find it difficult to read more serious verse alongside heavy fiction. By heavy, I mean moving. Somehow one has to "live" with an author for a certain period of time, silent moments included. I find that the gaps while I am not reading are as important in maintaining a certain mindset, an atmosphere if you may. Breathing if you must. ************ What makes it doubly difficult is I have to find time to write my own poems. All I have are urgent notes, and they bulge through notebooks and online notepads. I am always afraid of losing my touch, letting too much time pass by before rescuing wine from the dark and actually tasting it.
