hello again! do you mind going more in depth about the cutters and keepers (and the ideological divide between them)? you’ve already mentioned that propaganda has affected the keepers more- is that a purposeful thing done by the captiol? or something perpetuated by the keeper community themselves? a mix of both?
Hello, dear! I'm going to write this with as much neutrality as possible because the lore I have created is long and extensive and I don't want that clouding this response.
I want to stick to as close to the canon as possible and my interpretation of the canon without having what I created leech through [especially since it tends to get jumbled in my head].
Get ready for another long one, Backpacks!
I have always believed that post-Dark Days there has to be that separation between trade and industry, especially in a district that then has two principle industries. Prior to the Dark Days, there was much more community between the trades-folk of 2, everything was very unified and friendly to an extent, which is why Katniss mentioning the first rebellion and the Victor tributes holding has as a sign of unity between the districts mirrors that community and solidarity (CF, 258).
But war changes things in unbelievable ways. There were those who remained loyal to the Capitol of course, by way of taking their names that have Greco-Roman origins (Strabo, Sejanus, Cato, Brutus, Enobaria), and then there were those who remained loyal to their people and their trade, who saw the military industry as a disruption to their work and community and traditions. They were more aware of their slavery once the military entered their lands and held a stronger Capitol favor.
Gale had a point when he said: "It's to the Capitol's advantage to have us divided amongst ourselves." (THG, 14)
District 2 is one know for its strength in not just its manufactured, propagandized kind, but prior to that when it was full of stonecutters, mountain-miners, blacksmiths, etc. and that strength is just as strong if not stronger after the Dark Days among the trades-folk. Where before there was a healthy delineation between the natural trades of the district, after the first rebellion that bond grew stronger and closer among the working-class because of the military invasion. There was less care put towards whether people mingled between a hewer or layer mason (historically hewer masons [those who cut the stone] was a far more contentious and lucrative job than a layer mason [those who set the stone]) and more of an effort to maintain their community as trades-folk in the face of an oppressive military who wanted nothing to do with them.
So the clear divide between the two industries was done by the Cutters in an effort to steer clear of both becoming a part of the propaganda (in both industry and Games-realted) and siding with the new invaders. There was a high likelihood of ostracization among the Cutter community to those who became Peacekeepers once it was exclusive to 2—prior to the first rebellion, I think it was seen more like how Plutarch had explained it "[as] a way for their people to escape poverty and a life in the quarries. They're raised with a warrior mind-set." (MJ, 83). I do see that last sentence as being more appropriate post-Dark Days, but that's neither here nor there.
As for the Keepers, they are an oppressive, invading force that were not welcomed by the natives of 2 at large, but they are also amazing at brushing that off if it meant more of a chance of wealth and success within the district (and within the Games too, of course). They knew that they were in better favor with the Capitol compared to the Cutters after the Dark Days and more so because they saw themselves as better than the Cutters, still District and not Capitol, but at least they weren't Cutters. And those who came from the Capitol to be stationed in 2? Well, they were all kinds of high and mighty! But as I said in a tik tok breaking down District 2 and my love for it: "the loyalty of District 2 has always been in something that has been Capitol made." (1:42-149).
In regards to the propaganda having more of an affect with the Keepers, I believe it is a mix of both and it has to be. The superiority complex of the Keepers (as in: those born and bred for it, not Cutters who join) comes from sustaining the Capitols favor but it is because of that propaganda that is so deeply imbedded into the district. Once they came into the picture as the new Capitol favorite, they didn't flaunt it so much as usurp it once various military installations came about, like The Nut, that did away with various Cutter work. Maintaining that "warrior mind-set" works with children who saw that as a thing of pride and not a thing to do out of poverty and upper class mobility. I still am having difficulty distinguishing both a timeline and an explanation for how the propaganda becomes successful within the Cutter community because I simply can't see it as A Thing™ without an intense feeling of betrayal to both your heritage and your people*, but again, that's a question for another day.
By Panem, I hope I answered this well! I feel like I kinda dropped the ball on the Keeper bit, but then again, I'm in the minority & don't give them much thought compared to everyone else.
*Please ask me if you want me to talk about Lyme in regards to that sentence because OH BOY IS THIS ALL ABOUT HER!
Also I almost started this with an excerpt from my silly OC fanfic but a ficlet of a scene, only to realize that my open statement completely contradicts that! Anyway, here it is at the end so you can't say I didn't do it in the actual answering of this ask!
Because if the years of watching District 2 pairs reach victory has taught her anything, it’s that those from 2 are loyal to their community. Of masonry or military. And that it’s the worst part of watching The Games in District 2, how much the animosity grows amongst the crowd at even the slightest difference in trade or birthplace is put to question the chance of triumph as one tribute falls.  But is the answer so simple? A mere difference in industry? In home? The Cutters: hewer and layer masons, quarry-folk, stone and crystal miners, blacksmiths. The Keepers: soldiers—the common grunt and almost unheard of 2 born general—, cadets in schools, Peacekeepers stationed throughout the country never to return for 20 years, the hundreds working in The Peak*. The southern desert folk and their blunt nature, intrenched in tradition that mirrors what it was before. The northern mountain people and their river sweet ways, creating new rituals after living so close to their invaded neighbors.  No, nothing as simple as that. Their mutual destruction is not an echo of past rivalries, but of present vows.
*What I think the natives of 2 call The Nut since that name came about by the 13 rebels, not the natives

Me giving Coral trauma to live with for the rest of her life (tw: mentions of suicide)
Tumblr media
When she Father started to appear less and less, her grandfather came up to her and said "The Fisher bloodline must continue, and you are the only suitable person in your generation to continue it." She was 10🥰
When Coral was 13 she went out to sea for a couple month trip. 12 people died and she couldn't do anything about it and her and the remainder of her crew was sent home much earlier than they should've been😌
She got into her father's liquor cabinet when he was gone and drank herself sick because she was so tired of living 🥳
Coral faught her father whenever he came back to their place, which often led to her knuckles broken and the floors covered in blood<3
Coral nearly died to a shark attack while saving Mizzen. She was fine but a chunk of her leg was not🤗
Her grandparents are extremely strict with Coral since she was the only Fisher worthy of the Fisher fortune and what not, so she constantly dreads to see them
Coral would come home drunk and sobbing on some nights, or sometimes she straight up doesn't come home and finds herself knocked out on the beach ^^
She always talks to her mother every night, but when it gets extremely rough for her, she begs and sobs for her to come back :(
Coral killed her father with the Trident she inherited and by bashing his skull in very violently
Coral feels entitled to take care of Mizzen, Mags, and her mama, which is the only reason she hasn't tried suicide yet

i love how the origin of the dovecote clementines is endymion going “💕💕💕” at aelia and impulse buying fruit-
I love clemensias relationship with her father in your fics, but I feel like we rarely hear about aelia. would you be willing to share some thoughts about aelia and endymion’s relationship and/or aelia and clemensia’s?
Aww glad to hear you enjoy Endymion Dovecote's appearances! You're right - we don't hear as much from Aelia as we should, so we should fix that :)
Endymion Dovecote/Aelia Beauchamp
While they met during their Academy years, they didn't truly know each other/get together until University.
The clementines.
How it started: a sour clementine that Aelia was complaining about to Psyche (Felix's mom) and Endymion overheard.
Those words stuck around as he was looking for things to invest into. And oh, what's this, a new/sweeter variety of fruits? SOLD. He'll invest if they start their research with clementines.
He impulsively bought the rights to the clementine variety once it worked. And has since never regretted it.
Endymion didn't mean to pull a Pavlov with the clementines - but he sort of did, as he kept getting tongue tied around Aelia. (Nero Price made fun of Endymion for weeks as he watched this unfold)
Eventually Endymion got past that, finally got the ball going on conversation. Sparks flew and the rest is history :)
Terrified that she'd scared Endymion off after the first time she'd introduced him to her family, but he decided to stick around and she was like 'Mine.'
Despite him being well off, after getting married, Aelia continued to work at the Beauchamp owned jewelry business - Lavinium. (Some of the 'old guard' look down upon her working - "it's her merchant class roots" - but neither her or Endymion care for the rumours.)
Aelia's jewelry is well known amongst the elite - one, she comes from a jewelry family. Two, every year for her birthday, Endymion schemes to get her something custom and gorgeous.
Aelia & Clemensia
When pregnant with Clemensia, she was craving clementines a lot. Enough so that she could polish a good amount in one sitting.
Definitely the one who Clemmie got her fashion from. Pre-Rebellion, Clemmie was probably one of the most stylish infants around for blocks.
Probably brought Clemmie around Lavinium too during that time. (Unexpected bonus - Clemmie boosts sales when she goes up to customers and is like "Woah, you look so pretty ❤️" The Dovecote charm has customers being like, "You're right, it does look gorgeous! I'm buying it. 🥰")
Aside: ulterior motive - get Clemmie associated more with Lavinium and considered a possible contender to inherit after Aelia's brother. The Beauchamp family inheritance is messy if you've seen previous posts about them haha
Actually not that great with hair - Aelia can do basic hairstyles on her daughter, but Endymion is actually way better at it. (She's a bit jealous haha, but Endymion will do her hair too).
Aelia is a bit stricter of Clemmie's parents and in times of stress, also the more level-headed. (Neither are super strict, it's just that Endymion is more likely to give in to Clemmie than she is).

thalassa cure. daughter of neptune cure, the governor of district four. a once-legendary composer, thalassa married into the moss family after her premature and unexpected retirement. she disappeared shortly after the birth of her first and only child, iphigenia. many speculated on her disappearance, some even accusing moss himself of killing her though nothing was ever proven. her music still existed far into the capitol's future but she was never to be seen again.

Some Bobbin Lore
Okay, so I realized I've never actually posted anysort of deepdive into the lore I've developed for Bobbin. This won't be a super comprehensive post but It will include most general things.
General Lore
Bobbin was born in the Weft sector of District 8, on October 27th 204 P.C.E *This year is taken from Tbosas set dressing
His entire family is made up of factory workers on both sides
Bobbin is his parents, third child, and the middle of five.
He was involved in a factory accident at age four that caused the loss of the lower portion of his right arm
The Powers Family
Bobbin's parents Darney and Lisle Powers, were loving people but had a rather tumultuous relationship, often getting into loud screaming matches in front of their children and neighbors, or rather insignificant things.
Bobbin had two brothers, Brocade and Berwick, and two sisters, Barathea and Broidrey.
Barathea died in the first rebellion when Bobbin was 3 she was 7 at the time and he has no recollection of her.
Broidery and Darney Powers both died when Bobbin was 7 in a factory fire, they were 4 and 45 respectively.
After their deaths, Lisle became very distant from her remaining children, mostly ignoring them except to take care of their basic needs, and Brocade became the parent of the house in an emotional sense.
Berwick Powers is the last of Bobbin's siblings to die, contracting and then dying of Measles at age 6, Bobbin was 11 at the time.
Shortly after Berwick's death Lisle, simply never comes home neither of her remaining children knows what happened to her, Bobbin believes she abandoned them, but Brocade insists she must have died.
Brocade Powers
Brocade is Bobbin's only living relative at the time of his reaping, he is also their household's sole breadwinner.
Bobbin and him have a strained relationship, resenting each other for the ways they responded to their family's death. Brocade simply pushes the dead to the side in order to survive, while Bobbin attempts to truly mourn them despite their circumstances.
While Brocade is the family's sole provider, he is often riddled with severe anxiety that controls most aspects of his life.
Bobbin loves his brother but generally doesn't like him very much as a person.
Brocade loves Bobbin more than anyone and has a tendency to view Bobbin as his son, having cared for him most of his life. He is completely unaware that Bobbin does not view him as his father.
Brocade is 23 at the time of Bobbin's death, this event causes him to undergo a mental breakdown, reducing him to a shell of a person for years to come.
I'd be willing to expand on any of this so let me know if you have any questions!!

Hi! Thinking about your fic about Felix and his 36 rats again when I saw this video. But I was imagining one of Felix's rat in place of the guinea pig haha🐁
(actually now that I think about it, how big are his rats?)
Maybe Felix is playing for one of his rats.
Alternatively, he made Clemmie play for one of them. This is what happens when one of your friend's 36 rats enjoy listening to you play piano, I guess 😆
re: ratvinstill fic
oh my gosh that’s amazing!! felix serenading max ratvinstill to the piano (courtesy of clemmie giving him piano lessons for this exact purpose) - his rats need their nightly lullabies after all!

In district four, we have the wealthy, middle class, and the people in poverty, like normal. But district four is a much richer district than most, save district one and maybe two. The most known family there besides the Mayor's family, is the Fishers. The Fishers have always brought up a strong, successful fisherman/pirates, The Fisher's heirloom is a golden trident with a mermaid carved into its handle. For each new generation of Fisher, the eldest of each family must compete with their cousins for the trident. Once they get their trident, they are to get a tattoo of the tool. The Fishers are very male dominated, but Coral earns the Trident at 11 years old, making her the youngest, amd the first girl, to earn the heirloom.
Coral, born September 14th, to her parents Iver Fisher and Sedna Fisher, her father being Fisher blood, was the one that every Fisher knew was going to be receiving the Trident. She has a sweet spot for her mother, but she acted as a brute. She was competitive, even as a child. She would win in every wrestling match with her cousins, no matter how many times her aunts and uncles called her out on being to 'unlady like'. Her grandfather, one of the best Fishermen of all the Fishers, knew that out of all his grandchildren, Coral Marie Fisher was to take the Trident.
Coral's household, her manor, really, soon grew to be broken. Her mother gave birth to her baby brother Mizzen when she was five years old. Coral loved, absolutely adored, her baby brother, and she was so proud of her mother, but her father seemed to be distant. As Mizzen and Coa grew up, Coral noticed her father drinking more and more, rarely coming home, and ignoring her mother. This upsetting her mother deeply, as she was in love with her husband, and truly believed he was the one. But he ignored them more, yelled at them sometimes, left lots of adult things into Coral's hands, and this all caused her Mother to become dead to the world. One morning, when Coral was ten years old, her mother didn't come down for breakfast. Her father hadn't came home yet, and last night he had yelled and hit her mother, but Coral stepped in so her Mother could be safe. When she went up to her parents, her mother's room, she found that, while still alive, her mother was unresponsive. She begged, cried, and yelled for her mother to come back. Before they had all went to bed the previous night, her mother told Coral to take care of her brother, and Coral had promised to. So, on this day, Coral vowed to do everything in her power to keep her house running.
She took on many jobs, but mainly, she was a salior. She sailed on her family boat with a crew of men twice her age and triple in size and weight, but she grew into their captain, taking full responsibility of the ship at 14 years old. While doing this, she was still in school, taking care of her little brother and mother, and keeping the house. Her grandparents and aunts and uncles made no move to help her, wanting to see if she was capable of keeping the Trident. This was upsetting to Coral, as she was still a child. But during this, her best friend, Mags Flanagan, the daughter of a retired high ranked peacekeeper officer, was always besides her. Mags took care of Mizzen while Coral was working, alongside with her mother and she even kept the manor tidy. Coral owes her her life, even though Mags insisted that as Coral's closest friend, it was something she would do for her without any questions.
Coral and Mags have been friends since they were seven years old, and Coral didn't need anyone else besides Mags to be her friend. They did everything together, from playing on the beach when Coral was free, to spending holidays together. Mags is practically family to the Fishers, and Coral's grandparents suspected Coral and Mags would marry one day. The first time Coral was over to Mags's home, Mags's parents freaked at the thought of a Fisher visiting. They were fine, as Coral knew her manners and was mainly there just for Mags. Once, on a new years, they spent it at Coral's manor when they were eleven, and on that night, they kissed. The joked about it, before and after the kiss, but Mags may have caught feelings for Coral there, and Coral may have thought that their friendship might progress into something bigger. Mags was Coral's anchor. When Coral got drunk, Mags was there to bring her home and let her sob into her chest. Coral never wanted Mizzen to feel horrible for her, so she always went to Mags. On stormy nights, Coral would take walks down to the pier. On her path there, was Mags's house. Mags figured out Coral did this every night it rained, and so she always waited for Coral by the window, joining her on her walks. Coral, at first, was shocked, but soon she was used to Mags waiting for her. These two knew every little thing about each other, whether they shared during their stormy night walks or drunk at a bar, drinking away any sorrows and pain. Mags was there for every bit of Coral's life, including her tattoos.
Coral, in total, has six tattoos. An anchor on her left bicep, earned by joining her crew. A Trident on her right bicep, earned by earning her rightful heirloom. Two seastars with Mags and Mizzen's initials on her inner right wrist, not earned, not really, but people saw her determination to protect and care for them, and that's how she got that one. A shark on her lower back, earned by surviving a Shark attack at thirteen years old. A fishing hook on her left shoulder blade, earned when she hauled home her first catches. A pirate's hat on her collarbone, earned when she became captain of her crew.
Uhh I'm just going to stop my Coral backstory here but if you have any questions you can ask ^^
I should write out my Coral/district 4 lore and share it

Another D2 Tradition: Onyx
Para @julietasgf, tu tradición favorito!
This is another part of creating lore that comes from research. I want everything that I make to be based in realism, to seem as though it could be practiced in our world. So when researching Colorado quarries I ended up on onyx, which is historically mined pretty predominately enough in the area. And with every new stone I encounter, I always go through whatever meaning is usually associated with it.
For onyx, that's a talisman used predominantly for labor and delivery for a smooth and easy birth. (I can already hear ya'll typing "but what about unakite?" Shut up, I'll get to that!) I wanted to continue that lore for that stone in 2, so here's the tradition: at an announcement of pregnancy, women are given onyx; rough (not tumbled) onyx by the community (many people will have them on hand as they're prevalent to the area and hand them to pregnant women), representing the ultimate difficulty of pregnancy. Many expected parents in the district would be so overwhelmed with the amount of onyx they'd be given that they would set a small basket outside their home for people to come by and place their stones in. The closer to the due date comes, she’s given smoother onyx until the baby comes, when she’s presented with final fully smooth stone.
The future parents would hold onto the first stone of each month in a separate, smaller bowl. At the Home Name ceremony, the baby is given the final, fully tumbled one, which is usually turned into a bracelet for the child to wear for always, reminding them of their life, how difficult and painful and sharp it is, and will ultimately become smooth and simple. Many Cutter kids end up having that as their token in the arena, if they don't take a small satchel of their families stones, that is.
If a pregnancy and subsequent labor was particularly difficult, it’s pretty common to have that child be named Onyx, Home Name or not.
As for unakite, I'm leaning more towards it as a grounding, healing stone. It's usually placed upon the sick or injured as a healing talisman on either the area affected or some families put it on the meridian lines.
Onyx is a labor talisman, to help mothers throughout pregnancy, to remind them of the difficulty and beauty of creating life. Unakite is a healing talisman, to aid those throughout any painful journey, to remind them all that what is being done can and will end. The two are not mutually exclusive. Onyx gives life, unakite sustains it.

Ravinstill Extended Family Lore: The Deaths of Gnaeus and Marius
For the uninformed, Marius and Gnaeus Ravinstill are (in my worldbuilding) Felix's two older cousins. Marius is the eldest surviving Ravinstill cousin and the heir presumptive.
I have for the longest time just handwaved their deaths as a part of a confusing mess that happened in the aftermath of Felix's death via Coriolanus orchestrated car crash, but I have recently been privately rotating them in my head:
I have always known that Coriolanus uses Felix's death to try and turn Marius and Gnaeus against each other.
After giving this some thought, I don't think it works against the Ravinstill cousins, but it does work on their supporters.
Marius' position as Ravinstill heir has always been tenuous in that Gnaeus has always been the better pick. There are a lot of people who would support Gnaeus if he wasn't himself supporting Marius.
I don't think it would take much to convince Marius' supporters that Gnaeus is a threat. The ones that are solely loyal to Marius and see Gnaeus as some encroaching relative who's bullying the Ravinstill heir
Maybe, Coriolanus helps them along with rumors and by slipping something into their communications, but there was always going to be suspicion
Marius and Gnaeus are probably dealing with their great-uncle's grief and their own (and an upcoming state funeral), but when a call comes saying that Gnaeus needs to meet with a few advisors about something, well, it doesn't raise that many questions, Gnaeus was always the one with a better head for politics
And it doesn't matter if Marius' supporters decide to call him themselves after the deed is done or if Marius gets impatient waiting to pick out what coffin they're putting their younger cousin in, he shows up to whatever office or home that Gnaeus has been called to either way (although I lean more towards the latter)
Marius is more impulsive than the average Ravinstill, but I think he's stunned into inaction by the dead body of the cousin that he tried to replace two brothers with. EDIT: Marius is presented with the sight of Gnaeus’ severed head
I think he leaves that night and retires home numb, but the next day, he jumps into action
And what does it say, that as the news breaks, he doesn't seem to contact his great-uncle?
I think Marius purges his own followers and then waits. I don't think he really knows what he's waiting for, but well, Gnaeus was always the better schemer. Marius just avenged his cousin, and he knows that Gnaeus had a lot of friends too. Marius has gotten rid of anyone who would want to protect him.
He's not in the right headspace, so I think Marius greets whoever comes for hims with a smile.
...
I wrote Pater Patriae before I fine-tuned this idea, so this isn't entirely intentional, but what does it say that Max doesn't know the exact details of what exactly transpired? He knows the same version of the story that the public hears: after the death of one grandnephews, the other two pointed fingers at one another and died. I hate that man (I love him and show it by destroying his life)
Fun fact: I was thinking that maybe Marius' supporters might bring him Gnaeus' head, but I don't think they're putting that much work in (to cut off a guy's head). This was to further the fact that this thought I've been rotating started off as a reference to Gnaeus' namesake Pompey (Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus) who sought asylum from Julius Caesar in Egypt and was then beheaded because the Egyptians feared him taking control and also sought to win Caesar's favor.
Anyway, I thought the killing someone for someone else's approval was enough of a reference. Beheading didn't fit Capitolites doing a semi-quiet little murder...
EDIT: I changed my mind. Canonically, (in my canon,) Gnaeus Ravinstill’s head gets cut off and presented to Marius.
I should make a death recap for my Ravinstill extended family. I think it would emphasize the tragedy and would be fun for me. Anyway, Marius and Gnaeus get a tag now! I used to just lump them in with the ravinstill extended family lore tag!
