hi! i've been using this old theme for years now because other myspace themes don't hit the same, but i've been tweaking a lot of it for personal use. i think it's been long enough since this theme has been abandoned that i can upload something that can handle itself better on modern tumblr.

friend space - ever wanna show off your friends? now you can with the friend space to show off your top 8 9 friends on your blog. don't have enough friends? no worries, you can always toggle it off

image space - wanna put a bunch of blinkies somewhere? you'll need to have a bit of html and css knowledge for it, but you can go into the code and add as many images as you'd like. just look for the section and start pasting those images. it's a little tedious but tbh that's just the authentic myspace experience isn't it? but if that's not your thing, you can also toggle it off too.

tweaked/deleted features

had to delete the music player :( sorry but it used flash and i'm not really sure how to make a music player in javascript yet

added username input because it was annoying me that your title could be your name and it didn't make sense in most cases

deleted infinite scroll because the script was super outdated

added the ability to change the "online now!" gif. the original gif will always be in the defaults of the code.

changed the text post header font to verdana because it was impact and you could not fucking read that and it wasn't accurate to a myspace bulletin anyways

deleted the feature that force showed all the pages you made on your blog. so annoying. it will look a little weird if you have asks/submissions deactivated, but i doubt many of you using the theme will have them closed anyways

changed the dead links to redirect to the actual myspace site

✦ Okay, I give in. Let's upload our gifs on the beta editor to prepare for a gif pack page. Resources are available at the bottom, so lets get started !!

So first things first, you can only upload 30 gifs at a time. Now for me, I will always upload as I gif, around every 20 gifs, then upload to the page (this also ensures I don't skip any or have doubles) and keep gifing. That used to mean that I don't have to wait for tumblr to load 300 gifs and die from impatience. For the rest of y'all that means you're going to have to batch upload. I know, I'm sorry.

Note: With the help of @nataliealynlind we discovered that the daily limit is 250 gifs! So if you have more than that, prepare to upload your gifs over the course of a couple days or use a second blog. (imo this is another great reason to upload as you gif! that way you don't have to get stuck at 250!)

So after you upload your gifs (in this case I only did 10)*, you're going to go to the gear at the top of your post and click it. Then scroll all the way to the bottom where it says Text Editor. This looks familiar, right?

*Note: If you don't save it as a draft first, your gifs will be in .gif format, not .gifv. This means you can skip removing this tag later on, but I'm not sure if gifs that are uploaded but never saved/drafted will later disappear at some point. To be safe, I would save it as a draft. I just forgot at this part tbh

Well the good news is, you only have to change this once! The bad news is, we don't do Markdown then HTML anymore bc Markdown doesn't strip any of the code anymore 🙃 So just change it to HTML

Now it should look like this! Fun!

Okay, now we're going to copy that text and take it on over to our new best friend, the HTML Cleaner! So you're going to want to paste it on the right side of the screen. Your gifs should appear on the left side. If both sides have text, that's how you know you pasted it on the left.

So in order to get ride of all this extra code, it's going to take a couple extra steps. First, you're going to check these boxes on the left hand side.

Now, on the right hand side, you're going to enter these under Find and Replace (copy/paste section below!!). I know you're like, uh what? Where the hell did you get those numbers? Well, I got them from our gif post code!

For easy copy pasting:

So after you add the specific widths for your gifs, you're also going to want to add the following:

NOTE: If your gifs are usually the same size, I would recommend saving these snippits above on your computer's sticky notes or a draft to copy/paste for future uploads! While I do appreciate the viewer traffic, I'm sure coming to this tutorial every time is gonna get old real fast.

After all that, click Clean HTML

And now, your code should look like this! If there's still a space between your image links, just click Clean HTML again and it should get rid of it!

Now your code is nice and clean to put into your gif pages! Not quite sure how to do that? Read the Setting Up Your Sidepage section in this older tutorial!!

Okay, this vaguely rings a bell now, actually; I've probably been told this before. I can confirm for you that it probably definitely isn't on his instagram anywhere- I went through it a while back and screenshot literally every Scott Pilgrim post in sight, so if it was there I'd probably have it. Like I get with canon characters from media, no one’s going to wait to get explicit permission but at least in the context of ocs?? It’s not ok if you don’t get permission. And EVEN if the character is from their favorite media, it’s still stealing. Like idk what’s so hard to understand about it. You can make aus for fun but just because you throw in headcanons and an outfit change doesn’t make them a completely new character

I'm a switch/verse shipper but I do notice how some verse shippers have been using verse as a moral high ground. For me, in the anime community, it's been used as an anti-fujo or anti-seme/uke rhetoric. But tagging is a different case. It depends on the fandom culture and I never expected the majority of the English-speaking sites like Ao3 to tag T/B, tbh. I wish, but I'm not so uppity about it.

I agree, though. I'm a verse shipper but even I know there tend to be leanings (to verse shippers it's more a spectrum instead of a rigid binary option). Just that most verse shippers don't mind moving the scale. There are, but not many, who actively switch the ships and try out different dynamics. They are usually smut or PWP writers but generally people write stories with plot and have only one or a few sex scenes nestled in between.

The seme/uke hate is ironic since some people will still use the classic domtop-subbottom dynamic, they will just argue that character A is not a subbottom like "what most people HC", but character B instead, followed by saying how it's better and progressive (esp if the alleged status quo of the "bottom" was a character with shorter, smaller, or feminine features). The whole, "I'm different and better" attitude irks me. You like a dynamic, so what? No one's interpretation is better than the other. We're all fans of the same characters.

Ao3 is dominated by short and smutty fics, so I get the frustration. I also wish people would tag better but it depends on the general understanding of T/B in your fandom.

I always tag my T/B but I've uploaded a PWP with no tag because it has no anal. Since I majorly write MLM, I BARELY tag who's the dom and who's the sub unless it's for peculiar dynamics like "power bottom [A]", "bratty bottom [B]" or "stone top [C]" and even then, it's only for very obvious D/S and I don't really write BDSM.

I know my leanings, I know my preferences, but I still think my readers will have to understand how I characterize them by reading the story themselves. Because a character has lots of nuance. A character who I often write as a bottom might act more dominant and jagged, very masculine sometimes, but I'm not against feminine or submissive bottoms and I have ships with both character types. Most characters in my ships have both feminine and masculine traits, a lot are GNC or enby-coded to me, and they have various roles and traits that makes it hard to box them into two or four categories. It all depends on my relationship with canon.

I usually use canon proof, like their backstory or confirmed character trait by the creator, to write but I have a ship where I reject canon because the writing sucked and I prefer how other fan authors wrote it. Fan to canon relationships are very determental.

I know Bucky and though I've never encountered that side of the fandom (maybe because I don't ship stucky), I can imagine what you are experiencing. I know he is really pretty and pretty characters tend to bottom more. Steve is also handsome but I know people tend to profile through facial features first before diving into personality. Next, most people love to woobify a difficult and traumatized character. Some woobification turns to feminization even though there is no canon proof Bucky has a feminine side, at least not as far as I know (I'm not deep into Marvel). There's also the fact that a lot of people project their own IRL experience and personal preference in their ships. Maybe they relate to Bucky and want to imagine themselves as Bucky getting rammed by Steve and basing Bucky's personality from themselves. No harm in that, I too use my irl experiences as fic reference almost all the time, I just have to know when to separate myself from the character.

I'm not surprised if some people don't realize or won't admit they are writing OOC!Bucky or Fanon!Bucky because there are so many who are used to fanon interpretation or even rejected some canon interpretations.

Between getting fed canon content once or twice every few months vs reading 3-5 stucky fics every day almost 24hrs, do you think some people won't get used to fanon versions more? It's usually this case.

I personally like Canon!Bucky just fine so I obviously only want to read Bucky with that flavor but lately I haven't been reading much. So if I encounter a fic that's slightly different, I'll get so bamboozled and my brain will be like, "since when??" even though that fic has been there for a few years.

If there are more stucky fics you don't like, I suggest writing for yourself instead of asking other fans to change, unless they want to.

Hello, I hope this is okay for me to send. I'm one of the blogs you blocked. (First off, this is your good right, and I completely understand and I hope this isn't a breach or invasion of privacy to send this from a different blog)

I always made sure to only tag content of Nolanverse Crane when it's really him and not any other Cillian role because I understand the frustration. And like I said, I absolutely understand that he's not a proper Scarecrow in your eyes. But it kind of hurts to get lumped into a group where I don't feel like I belong (if that makes sense)

Scarecrow in general is my favorite character in any comic related media. Arkhamverse Crane and Audio Adventures are at the top for me, and I also have a deep love for Fear State and little fan interpretations where he's just a funky little freak. My blog is Nolanverse centric atm because I just haven't gotten around to writing fics for the others. (And I'm worried I won't write them well tbh)

But all of that aside, my reason for actually sending this was because I was genuinely missing your posts and opinions on my dash. I was honestly a little worried that I didn't see anything from you before I realized what happened.

This isn't me being angry or petty and please don't think I feel entitled to seeing your posts (I don't want to be THAT person)

See, that post was mainly about people I blocked weeks/months ago. I often only block the fangirls, for lack of a better word. I actually made the Cillian post on a whim. reposting isn´t: seeing a fanart or some other creation -> liking it and reblogging it (the arrows that are in circles here on tumblr) because you wanna share it on your blog so other people can see it!!!!

reposting isn´t also: if you write a post on tumblr -> you want to make it better with a gif -> you go onto the search bar and search for a gif -> you post one (because the name of the creator is directly under the gif and everybody can see who made it)

screenshots are not mentioned because i just simply made them while watching gintama, i didn´t edit them. so if you are person who is lazy as fuck and you only wanna repost gintama screenshot my gosh then do it. i know i´ve made them and i´m smart enough to not claim pics i never edited. this whole thing is only meant for gifs and gifs alone. i´ve edited them. sharpenng, coloring etc. and it needs time. Ok so I saw that long ass post that anon sent you about the vote thing on Wattpad, and while I don’t agree with some of what they said where they told you what to do (which they shouldn’t have done, they were rude) I do actually agree with them where they said people don’t tend to look at the votes when deciding whether or not to read a story. I actually think the whole vote thing is just something only authors care about, not readers.

As an avid reader on Wattpad, I do give votes just because authors like it- but I don’t actually give a shit about how many votes a story has when I’m looking for my next story to read. I look at the number of views- which I think you’ll find most readers do, even though the view count can be skewed.

Either way, I do think the whole vote thing should be taken off Wattpad as to the majority of readers, they really don’t care about it and it doesn’t give a good representation of how good a story is

I've been thinking about this all a lot ever since the last anon came in. I'll probably avoid answering questions about this topic again, but there does seem to be disconnect between the writer and reader standpoint, so I'll try and explain my thoughts as best I can without waffling for ages lol

my answer is to this ask, but also to the topic in general, and thoughts I've had regarding that last anon.

it's a really difficult topic to discuss because wattpad has an algorithm that is never really explained to writers. i cant say its important because xyz - i can just give you my own experience. ive been on wattpad for 11 years and have seen it through many changes. i used to use the activity tab to find new stories, and i honestly think getting rid of that was detrimental to the user experience tbh.

as it stands, we don't know what the algorithm favours, so we have to do what we can.

and what can we do? we can tag our work, we can acquire reads and votes, and then we can do more laborious things such as entering award books run by other users and engaging with our readers in various ways.

the tag system, and trending stories under those tabs, are really skewed. for instance, I don't think any of my stories have ever made it onto the fanfic tab, nor have I ever ranked highly under tags despite having really engaged readers and metrics which would suggest I would be.

so, unlike what the last anon said, my stories haven't always been 'out there'. word of mouth, and some stroke of luck tiktoks, are what's pushed them more than anything. so in that way, yeah the desire for votes is flawed—but personally I don't think read count is indicative of quality. if we're thinking about it from a marketing standpoint and conversion rates etc, votes a far more indicative of quality and I'd rather be known for quality over quantity.

the last anon also specifically noted the number of reads/follows I have on wattpad, and suggested that I shouldn't care because those numbers are high—which, respectfully I disagree with. if I didn't care in the early days, I wouldn't have pushed myself to make it to where i am. you can't just expect me to switch off that part of my personality. I'm ambitious and I really care about the things I create.

my girliepop oc's tend to have ambitious streaks and personal goals that they work hard for. they take after their mother, in that sense.

i think what confuses me the most is why it irks people, when you boil it down. its a tap on the screen for readers—and having just uploaded an 11k chapter that took hours to write, to edit, to craft, only to then be told its not worth it? i dunno man, it's just mean lol.

you can think these thing by all means, but don't come into my space just to be cruel. sometimes it okay to keep your opinions in your group chats.

hii sweetest! yes, of course I can give you some pointers. first of all, welcome to tumblr authorhood!! may you receive many comments and find infinite motivation~

for me, I suppose I’m “self-taught”? but isn’t everyone on this app? lol. actually, I’ve been sharing fic on tumblr for… idk, 8 years on and off ?? omg that’s wild. but yeah, I’ve definitely learned some stuff along the way., here are my key takeaways:

(general) promote interaction:

there’s a couple things I do to try to improve the number of notes I receive on my posts, but there’s also a few things I try my best to do in order to improve my readers’ experience. first, I use tags on every post I publish. I have a tag for asks, for my fics, for my fic recs, etc. This makes it easier for a potential follower to go through with following you even if they don’t like 100% of your content, bc they can always blacklist the tag and they won’t have to see any of those posts. second, use links so that your readers can easily look through your stuff. a masterlist is KEY here as it’s the gateway for all your fics, but also, general navigation, or even linking your masterlist at the end of your fics can be beneficial too. I find it’s also really important to have links in your bio. this makes it way more approachable for any followers and it’s honestly nice to have for your own purposes as well. the only thing about that is, you have to make the links for your bio on the computer version of tumblr when you’re editing your blog. it cannot be mobile, something about it just won’t work. i can go into further detail on how to get those bio links but tbh i just looked it up on google 5yrs ago and it’s stayed the same since then lol~

theme:

obviously my blog doesnt have a “theme” theme when you visit it on computer, but i mean theme as in, all your navigation/general/fic posts are cohesive and they look like they belong on the same blog. you can achieve this by using the same fonts, text symbols (or emojis…. i guess. personally, side eye…), or dividers.

fonts:

so beyond the 3 fonts tumblr has in its posting formatting, i personally like to use copy paste fonts. they still work with embedding links and stuff as well. i like to use a font generator, where you type in whatever you’d like and it converts it for you. then you can just copy & paste.

text symbols:

these are a good for borders and dividers, or just generally spicing up your bio/navigation. i usually google “text symbols copy paste”, and browse through the results.

dividers:

when you’d like to use a photo divider on your blog, make sure it is a very skinny PNG file. PNG means it has a transparent background, so it will be more cohesive for your readers on regular white posts and also dark mode posts. I actually designed my own PNG divider (Azriel’s siphon of course hehe) on my iPad on ProCreate, but I know there’s a lot of blogs that make them and share them, which you can use so long as you give proper credits. that’s another thing that’s important— always make sure to credit others if you’re using work that isn’t yours!

most importantly, I recommend always TESTING these methods!! make sure to double check that all your links work, that the symbol you choose doesn’t become an emoji when you paste, that the font is all set. there’s a lot of trial and error involved in making your blog just right :) hope this helps & good luck anon!!

do you have any tips on how to start a npt / coining blog? they seem so fun and they all look really pretty!! (yours is so pleasing to look at btw)

ahhh thank you!!! tbh I don't think I have anything really beneficial to say?? it's honestly all about having fun and enjoying what you make! I personally started my blog (and my coining journey) off my special interest in persona and my love for gothic culture. things like that really makes me have fun coming up with coining posts or NPTs!

I also feel like coming up with the uncommon words and related troupes of certain requests can help you not get stuck and also will very much expand your vocabulary and how to brainstorm effectively. (for example, if somebody asked for detective pronouns I'd think what's associated with them? what are famous detectives or detective media? what's a common detective troupe? what's an attribute of detectives? could I pair detectives with something else that'd fit the realm of the theme? things like that! I also often look into synonyms of words for pronouns and titles, and look up names that may mean something relating to the theme or that may end in a similar sounding word or phrase as said theme! (ex. For a Villain theme, I'd find names ending with ain or in or directly meaning villain)

I'd also like to say that you don't have to make your blog aesthetic in any way! a simple layout is fine and sometimes is just what's best! (and also to be careful with it too, as I've heard a lot of Tumblr's customizable features are very inaccessible to those who use screen readers, and using fonts is pretty much a no-go if you wish to make your blog accessible as well)

Try to keep a coherent system between your posts not only for your followers but for yourself! I often like to keep the same tags, a similar post format, and some sort of request system to help me. For requesting formats, see what fits better! Is it easier to queue your posts so you have infinite content to post while you work on others? Would you prefer to upload them all at once / at the time you get to them? (which I personally do) Maybe you don't want to have multiple posts for one ask, and just put it all in one! Find what works best for you and don't be afraid to change it up if one doesn't work so well for you!

And lastly, work on your own schedule! Are you often busy or easily overwhelmed? Add an inbox cap and only take those requests at a time! This will help ease the load if your blog happens to get popular and you've got a lot of requests coming in. Or maybe it's just something you do in a pastime and you wish to collect up some requests to do when you're bored? Have a always open inbox so you can simply pick up a request for some fun brainstorming! Or maybe you're seeking to only get specific type of requests? Make limited requests to what you're tailored for and have some fun with your preferred medias!

At the end of the day, your blog is what you make it. You don't need to be like me, or any other npt / coining blog! Just be yourself, do what you please and have fun! I hope some of this helps because I'm not very good at explaining myself... Most of my drive for this stuff is my catastrophic autism doing it's thing 💀

Hii so I wanted to ask some advice for ppl (me lol) who want to write fanfics?? U obviously don’t have to but I do look up to you for your work and was wondering if you could give some tips :)) thank uu 💕💕

SUREE!! 🥹 it's a bit hard for me to come up with some things that are key points in writing fanfic bc i don't think I just write, but i guess i can point out a few donts or guidelines i think of, especially when writing "real people" fanfic?

i don't write anything relating to their actual family bc i feel like it's a bit much? idk, just not something id ever consider doing. pets are OK for me just family members not so much

writing about their insecurities that they've talked about feels icky. ive seen it happen a LOT and it just makes me feel like its crossing a boundary? idk

a big one: if the person you're writing about explicitly states that they do not like when people write ff about them, stop wititng it immediately. if any of the guys said it i wouldn't write anymore ever again, just a respect thing

a few do's i think of?

i often write genres and things outside of like modern life fanfics because i find it more entertaining (ie fantasy, scifi, etc) but tbh this is a personal preference so you can just write whatever comes to mind!

some people open asks for requests (not me bc I struggle with fulfilling my own ideas, i can't imagine having to follow someone else's) but it's a good way to start and get practice!

outlining larger fics, even if it's just key points. i actually don't (and really need to tbh) because you'll forget even when you say you won't 😭 so it's 100% a good idea to do that!

thesaurus is your best friend, fr. i have her open on the side everytime because a lot of words feel repetitive 😭 but having that helps a lot ! just make sure the synonym makes sense sjdhdjfh

tags are good too! especially when you're just starting, it'll help you reach a larger audience hehe

that's all I can think of! i often just start writing in random moments of inspiration, but we all have our own flow! don't get discouraged when you see others uploading faster than you, everyone has their own pace :>

Hii!! I’m a new reader and follower and I really enjoy your work so I wouldn’t mind reading it on AO3 or Tumblr. But, I think AO3 would be a lot easier because of better tagging and less issues overall with the hate and constant reporting. I also think there would be better feedback and discourse on AO3 since most people on there know how to behave and properly interact with authors. And it can serve as a backup blog in case you accidentally delete a work from tumblr. Hope this helps ❤️

(´｡• ◡ •｡`) ♡ First thank you for reading my works and following me ♡ And also tysm for the feedback honestly, cause I really needed to hear a second opinion on this - and feeback from readers is important to me cause it should go both ways. I’m not even sure if my work got reported or not- cause I haven’t received an email from staff about my works being flagged down, or even being told that my content is inappropriate? unless its been reviewed by them. ao3 has a much better tagging system to work with honestly. Uploading things there is a very tedious job, but at the same time really worth it - if only it included a way of interaction for authors to get comfortable with their readers though... not to mention the limitation of discourse there, mainly because people just stick to doing their own thing there yk? Another thing i like abt ao3 is the quality of the content. There is more leaning towards the plot of the story than smut; and that's what my content stands for. Not to badmouth tumblr, but it is really easy to get followers here. i was at 800 two and a half weeks ago and I just crossed 1.6k. it's to do with how often you upload things here rather than paying attention to the quality of the content that's being created. Not to mention the kind of fights authors get into with each other here, and the extent to which anons take hate is crazy. I never got subjected to it as i've usually stuck to my own blog and barely interact with anyone- but i have seen how ugly it can get cause i used to follow authors here in the past. Not to mention there is gatekeeping on both sides- authors and readers; which i'm not a fan of. And all this for what- a fictional character? Some of us are just trying to get our content out for you. Literally 'x reader' insert- for you (not to mention its for free too). and writing is also like therapy in most cases so blogs are safe spaces. The last thing anyone should bring there is discourse, arguments and correction of opinions. ao3 definitely has more civilized people tbh. And i do plan on shifting my works there cause tumblr isn't cutting for me anymore. Not to mention that i don't even get proper feeback here except from a few people when there are 1.6k followers here- So yeah I guess i'll be moving to ao3 thank you for dropping in and saying this - it really helps! ♡

How to run a aes blog ? I feel like no one is gonna see what I post. There are sooo many aes blogs , i feel like no one will engage with my posts :-(

well i only started this blog after abt 10 years of running another one, so i already had lots of lovely moots who followed back right away!! as for my uploads blog, i tag pretty much everything so people browsing through those tags will see. tbh i hope that soon i'll have enough followers where i won't have to do that anymore, but it also helps with organization.

most of all i found that posting consistently is key for getting new followers and having tumblr recommend your blog to other people, so just keep at it, and remember sometimes random posts can blow up weeks or months after you first upload them.
