#yeah I just saw a post#tbfair the post itself ended on a humorous ish note so it's fine but the notes gods the notes#It's not a gotcha to go 'well aCtUaLLy I wOuLdN't' without examining a wider context#anyway the reason stories of eternal life reflect on the grief of losing friends over time is BECAUSE#in our short lives we do experience grief over losing friends#not in SPITE of it#it's not a case of 'well immortal one you're not special we also lose loved ones'#it's a case of 'what does this work of fiction explore about the human fucking condition'#you can disagree with the premise that immortality is torturous and argue that the fleetingness is part of the beauty carpe diem etc#you can absolutely think that the pros of hypothetical eternal life overweigh the cons#you can also be bored with the fact immortality is always treated so dramatically#but gods please stop the bad faith analysis#carrot has an opinion
