I need TUMBLR FANDOM TO SEE THIS
Can you imagine?!
And maybe they weren't able to get to him quickly enough too?! Did they think he was dead?! Were they allowed to look for him, or forced to finish the mission first?!

From Eriadu
Tumblr media
Hunter wasn’t sure he had ever felt such a sense of abject panic before, not even when Wrecker was sent flying by an unexpected explosion that took his eye and caused scarring down half his body. That was war. This was… something else entirely.
The Marauder seemed to be moving backwards. The usual whoosh as they cascaded through hyperspace felt like they were stuck in some kind of galactic mud. They had to move faster.
“Faster, Echo!” a guttural voice called, so unlike his own. Although he knew it was his.
Echo responded curtly but Hunter didn’t hear him, his face turned to the broken girl splayed out on the lower bunk. Her eyes continued to flutter open for a few seconds, only to close again with a grimace, her body curling up into itself in protection and pain. Blood seeped down her temple where the edge of her helmet had cut into her skin.
The Crash.
The fall.
Tech.
Hunter could have sworn his heart stopped beating at the thought of his brother, falling into the clouds below, Omega’s screams of agony, Wrecker’s desperate calls to prevent the inevitable. The silence as the car moved, the shrill screaming of metal upon metal and it crashed.
He remembered his tight grip on Omega’s wrist as she had moved to the edge of the car, his fear she would follow his brother out of the gaping chasm. Her empathy a parachute she would deploy so her beloved brother wouldn’t be alone on his final journey.
Hunter gingerly unwound the red fabric around her left wrist, tears prickling in his eyes as he noticed the dark bruising developing there, the signature of his desperation and his love for her.
He tried to focus his senses on her alone, his ears memorizing the rhythm of her heartbeat in case it should falter, his eyes, tracing the curls of her hair as it fell around her ears, his fingers gently tracing words on her bruised arm, writing her a sonnet she would never read.
He was so engrossed that at first, he didn’t notice Wrecker’s murmurs from the front of the ship.
“I let him fall, I let him fall, I let him fall, I let him…”
But as the worlds slowly filtered through his throbbing ears, his heart caught again. A lump that formed in his throat sank into his chest and grew into a boulder.
“Echo,” he rasped with the jerk of his head.
His brother, golden eyes downcast, gave Wrecker a gentle pat on the shoulder before coming at his Sergeant’s command.
“Watch her for a second, will ya?” Hunter said, casting a last look at Omega before reluctantly leaving her side.
Hunter approached Wrecker like one would a wounded animal. Casting one last look at Echo kneeling next to Omega, he pushed the button to close the cockpit door.
He grabbed the back of the pilot’s seat to turn it around before pausing and thinking better of it. He settled into the seat behind Wrecker, gently pulling on it so he was able to face his crumpled, giant of a brother.
“I let him fall, I let him fall, I let him fall” he continued as though Hunter wasn’t there.
He placed his hands on top of his brother’s shovel like fists, clutched together with white knuckles as though hanging on for dear life.
Wrecker let his brother guide his hands open, revealing bloody channels carved into the skin from desperately trying to buy them time. Desperately trying to save Tech. Wrecker would have given anything to save his brother, Hunter knew that. Would have traded places with him in a second if he could, just like Hunter.
Hunter reached for the med kit, splayed open and torn apart as they had desperately tried to stabilize their youngest member. He gently patted at the wounds on his brother’s hands, dabbing bacta gel and wrapping them gingerly, his usually steady hands shaking slightly.
“You didn’t,” Hunter said, finally his dark eyes taking in his crestfallen brother’s twisted face.
Wrecker’s eyes finally met his own. Large globular tears formed in the corners, cascading down his scarred cheek and dropping with an impossibly thud on his scratched armor.
“I couldn’t save him, Hunta,” Wrecker cried in a guttural sob that threatened to drown him, just like the floor of tears that were flowing so freely now they were ricocheted onto Hunter.
Hunter felt the tears prickle again. He needed to be strong. To keep it together, he was the leader after all. But he couldn’t. Wrecker didn’t need his sergeant; he needed his big brother.
Hunter stood, his heavy boots clanking on the floor of the ship as he crossed the short space between him and his brother and throwing his arms around his neck.
“We couldn’t save him, Wreck.” He whispered. “You tried. Tech made a choice.” His brother’s name caught in his throat, he tried to swallow to clear it, but it remained embedded there and perhaps always would.
Hunter felt his brother rise, his wampa sized arms circling him and pulling him so close his armor started to press into his body painfully, but it didn’t matter. No kind of physical pain could eclipse the loss of his brother. He almost wished he had a wound, that he was bleeding, a penance for Tech.
He tried to push the thought out of his mind. Tech wouldn’t want that.
Tech.
Hunter wasn’t sure how long they stood there, two soldiers, two brothers, clinging desperately to each other and they hurtled through space. It was at least enough time for Wrecker’s tears to run dry, for his body shaking sobs to lessen to shaking, rasping breathing as he tried to regain control.
Hunter wiped his face as his brother finally let him go. Not realizing that his feet had been suspended from the floor until he hit it with a clang.
Wrecker went to wipe his face before realizing his hands were wrapped. Hunter reached up, wiping his cheeks gently with his gloved hand, like he had done so many times when they were cadets.
“Thanks,” Wrecker said, his voice low and taciturn, devoid of the joy it usually held.
“Anytime, Vod.” Hunter said, his voice finally sounding some semblance of normal in his head. “We’re…we’re going to be okay, Wrecker. We have to be. For Tech.” He said, the name again getting stuck.
Wrecker nodded. Hunter hit the button to open the cockpit door as the blue glow of hyperspace dissipated into the starry blackness of space. He felt the tightness in his chest lessen as Ord Mantell glowed below them.
He crossed paths with Echo as he made his way back to Omega, pausing long enough to place a reassuring hand on his brother’s shoulder. Echo may have had experience with loss, but he and Tech were as much brothers as Hunter and Tech were, he wanted to make sure he acknowledged that.
“You, okay?” he asked, knowing the answer was obviously, ‘no’.
“Don’t worry about me, Hunter.” was Echo’s solemn response as he reluctantly took the pilot’s seat.
Hunter sat on the floor next to Omega’s bunk, resuming his vigil. His hands gently bushing her hair off her forehead as the Marauder careened through the atmosphere to their salvation.

Me watching plan 99: pauses it right before tech falls
Man I’m so glad that I paused that before anyone got hurt. Something bad could’ve happened right there but I stopped it.
I live in my delusions

“Did they teach you plan 72?”
Imagine Omega learning all the plans during one of her lessons with Tech, and the sheer horror on her face when she discovers what plan 99 entials. She’ll turn to him, terrified, and ask “we won’t have to use that plan, will we?”. He’ll look at her for a long moment, before eventually saying “I should certainly hope not”. Reassured by this, she’ll turn back to the data-pad and continue memorising the rest of the plans. But Tech will continue to stare at her for a long time afterwards, brown eyes sad behind his goggles. Because he knows, deep down, if the situation ever came to it;
He’d use plan 99 in a heartbeat.

What really sucks about Tech’s death is that we get a glimpse of what his life could have been like outside of the fighting and hiding. He could have been a speed racer, using his technical knowledge to outshine and outrace the competition. He could have joined Phee in her adventures, learning new things with each artifact they found together. Heck, he could have married Phee and helped to raise a beautiful family on Pabu - or not, if they preferred not to have children. We’ll never know.
Tech could have had a wonderful life, if he had just been allowed to live.

Watching the Darkness On Umbara arc, and because I still have Bad Batch brain rot, I’m thinking about how they would have reacted to Krell’s bullshit, so here’s what I’ve got:
Hunter: Sir, with all due respect—
Crosshair, flicking a toothpick: Which is none
Hunter, trying not to laugh: —we’re not doing that. Bad Batch, plan 43, let’s go!
Krell: Sergeant, you can’t—!
Wrecker: Too bad!
Fives, smacking Rex: Why can’t we be like them?!

Technically…
It’s BEAUTIFUL. STUNNING. GORGEOUS. Uzuriart crushed it. Again. This is my 4th commission from Uzuriart and I’m always blown away.
As stated in a previous post, every year on January 1st, I change my ig profile pic. I pick a character who I connected with and impacted me the previous year. I’ve always loved Tech but with The Bad Batch ending last year, this was the obvious choice for 2025. I know Tech wasn’t there for the final season but his presence was never more apparent. The finale of season 2 still guts me. Plan 99. Tech made the ultimate sacrifice for his family but he lives on in all of us. What an incredible group of characters that Star Wars gave us. And Dee Bradley Baker. What a legend. Thank you.
This makes my heart so happy. Thank you again Uzuriart.
May the force be with each and every one of us in 2025.
Tech lives.
*fixed my typo and now you can see his teeny tiny smile.
