still at Season 1 with my current BSG rewatch, going slower than I wanted, but
stray thoughts:
I have seen a lot of the episodes many many times, and I had one complete rewatch years ago with my family, but it is very exciting that I committed myself to do a full rewatch again. enough time has passed so that I can kinda see it with a new eye, even though most of the show etched myself into my mind and soul forever.
she is a big deal, but i still feel like we underappreciate Katee Sackhoff as an actor and Kara Thrace as a character in the show. she is just ELECTRIC. possibly my favorite fictional TV character, give or take a Nora Durst.
the David Weddle & Bradley Thomspon scripts sing like no others. Michael Taylor is going to be my go-to writer on the show later on, but they are indelible throughout, and the first ones to truly get the wavelength of RDM
i know many purists would rank the first season as the best, and i enjoy the very classical standalone structure and small-scale feel of it, but for me it's still probably at last place, even considering some rock bottoms of later seasons. also, I love the spiritual and theological rabbit holes the writers will write themselves into, and the show gets better for all the weird detours and strange turns of the worldbuilding and the narrative. I am very curious how the dead-ends and messiness of the overall arc will feel this time through, though.
Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down is by far the worst episode of the show thus far. I don't think EJO handles the screwball rhythms well as a director, and the characterization of Ellen this early in the run does not sit quite well with me, considering how they deepen her story later, especially in the New Caprica run. here it's just a crazy scheming bitch and a bros before hos posturing - her dynamic with Saul could (and will) be great and complicated, two people who get the very worst out of each other, which is spelled out in the episode, but isn't really depicted in an interesting way just yet.
also, can't wait for Tricia Helfer to really shine in later seasons. she is already amazing in her limited role of HeadSix temptress, and you can already sense the complexities behind her purr and anger and frustration.
Tahmoh Pennikett is not the greatest actor on the show, but he is amazing at giving a protector / big brother energy for Helo. he is just so rock solid. makes Helo a much better character than on paper, I think.
Flesh and Bone doesn't hit as hard any more (it was the episode that truly hooked me the first time, and one of my faves to revisit at earlier rewatches), but it is still the episode that has the first true glimpse of the thornier political and theological stuff that make the show reach next levels of greatness in terms of the cylon-human relations. Callum Keith Rennie is alluring and next to Tricia Helfer, the most un-human of the cylons.
the costumes in BSG are PERFECT. from the shiny chrome-silver flightsuits in the Caprica arc (both Helo and Sharon have such cute asses in those pants) to the standard blue uniform and the dogtag-sleeveless-tanktop combo of the pilots... so so so cool
the handheld camera shots really pay out whenever they zoom in a close-up of adama's pockmarked face or starbuck's trembling mouth. a huge reason of why Galactica (the ship, the crew) feels so lived in.
quiet moments like this one always make me cry:

~John Taylor Gatto

Worried Sick
“Make sure y’all keep a good eye on yer lil’ cousins!”
“Yeah, yeah, we got it.” Brandon waved off his grandma’s concerns as he followed the others out into the woods. Dipper had seen something strange or other and wanted to check it out- Brandon didn’t remember. He wasn’t really listening.
Taylor and Tyler- the “lil cousins” they were supposed to be watching- had clung themselves together next to Mabel. They weren’t going anywhere, really. How often could these two possibly wander off?
Often enough was apparently the answer, because when Brandon looked up from checking his phone five minutes later, Taylor and Tyler were gone.
“Hey, where are the little twins?”
“They’re right-!” Mabel looked around, suddenly confused. “Hey, whered they go?”
“Son of a bitch,” Brandon hissed. Dipper and Mabel blinked in surprise. “Yeah yeah, people swear, welcome to the real world. We need to find them.”
“It would be easier if we split up!” Jenny suggested.
“Yeah, that’s a good idea.” Brandon nodded. “Ok, me and Dipper and Mabel and Jenny- let’s get looking. They couldn’t have gone that far.”
“Taylor!”
“Tyler!”
Well, Brandon had to give it to them. Nine-year-olds know how to move when they want to. Seriously, why would they have split from the group so quickly? Turning the corner around a tree, Brandon got his answer-
In the form of Taylor reaching forward to grab a fairy.
“TAYLOR!”
She squeaked and fell forward through the bush. Tyler jumped and rushed backwards, landing on the ground. The fairies Taylor had been reaching for panicked, and one threw a handful of colorful dust at her. Once the dust cleared, the fairies were gone, and Taylor was laying on the forest floor.
“Shit shit shit.” Brandon hurried forward with Dipper behind him, and he kneeled down next to Taylor. “Hey hey, are you good?”
Taylor moaned, curling up and holding her stomach. As Dipper helped Tyler up to his feet, Taylor promptly rolled over and puked all over the ground. Brandon sucked in a breath and helped Taylor up. She was shaking a bit and still holding her stomach.
“We need to get her back to the shack,” Dipper said.
Brandon nodded in agreement. “Yeah. You go find the girls, ok?”
Dipper nodded and hurried off, and Brandon started walking Taylor back to the shack with Tyler following after them.
“Grandma!”
Bella jumped and quickly put out the joint she was holding. She coughed and waved at the smoke above her as the kids ran up to the porch.
“Hey, kids. Is somethin’ wrong?”
“Taylor’s been throwing up.” Brandon lowered his cousin onto the porch, where she leaned against the support beam, still looking sick.
“Oh, poor thing.” Bella frowned and lowered her hand to Taylor’s forehead. “Well we’ll ‘er inside an’-” Bella blinked in surprise, looking at Taylor’s face and feeling around her forehead, flipping her hand between the palm and the back.
“Is something wrong?” Tyler asked.
“...let’s, uh. Let’s get her inside, m’kay?” Taylor pulled away when Bella tried to lift her up, and she threw up again over the side of the porch. “An’ someone get her a bucket.”
Taylor sat on the living room couch, with Tyler hanging over the edge next to her, as Bella fumbled with the thermometer. A bucket sat in front of the couch where Taylor could easily reach it.
“Hey, what’s goin’ on?” Stan entered the room, taking in the scene.
“Taylor threw up. Ah’m tryin’a take her temp.” She finally managed to get all the wrapping off of the thermometer.
“You don’t need that thing. Just feel her forehead.” Stan pushed back his sleeve and set the back of his hand to Taylor’s forehead, only to frown in confusion. “What the heck…?”
“Ah know, that’s why Ah’m usin’ this,” Bella said. “Open yer mouth, sweetie. Tongue up.”
Taylor did so, and Bella set the thermometer in her mouth.
“She feels normal.”
“Ah know. But she ain’t… well, she definitely threw up. Multiple times.”
“Didja eat something weird, kid?” Stan asked. Taylor shook her head. The thermometer beeped and Bella took it, frowning.
“Her temp is normal.”
From the other room, Brandon, Jenny, and the twins were watching everything play out. Dipper pulled the third journal out from his vest and started flipping through it.
“It had to be something with those fairies,” he muttered. “That’s when it started, right?”
“Fairies?” Mabel tilted her head.
“We found them when Taylor was trying to touch one of these fairy things,” Brandon explained. “It threw this… weird dust stuff at her.”
“Oooooh.” Jenny peered over Dipper’s shoulder to read the journal.
“Ah, here it is.” Dipper skimmed the entry, frowning. “They’re called barf fairies. But there’s nothing in here about them making other people barf like this.”
“Maybe the author dude never saw them do it,” Brandon said.
“Maybe…”
“Well I guess that means we gotta go find them!” Mabel said. “Maybe they know how to make it stop!”
“It’s the best we’ve got.” Dipper closed the journal and tucked it back into his vest. “Let’s go.”
“Sorry, we can’t make it stop.”
“What?” Dipper frowned, kneeling in front of the fairy. “What do you mean, you can’t make it stop?”
“It’s a defense! It wouldn’t be very good if it just stopped.” The fairy folded her arms.
“Come on man, she didn’t mean to scare you,” Brandon said. “She’s just a kid.”
“I’m sorry, but we really can’t do anything,” the fairy repeated.
A cloud of the same dust from before appeared from the other side of the group, and the fairies quickly disappeared. The group of cousins backed away from the cloud, and when it parted, a fox was left, throwing up onto the ground.
The fox looked around before running off past the kids. Dejected, they began to head home, but then they found the fox again. After throwing up again, it was digging at a bush. It pulled up a branch of berries, ate a few of them, and bounded back up and away from the bush, seemingly back to normal.
Dipper’s eyes widened and he kneeled down to look at the berries. “Hey, maybe this is the cure!”
“It made the fox feel all better!” Mabel grinned. Dipper smiled and grabbed a few of the berries, cupping them in his hands.
“Let's hurry back.”
“C'mon honey, ya gotta keep yer fluids up.”
Taylor whined, sniffing and pushing the cup away.
“It’s Ginger Ale,” Bella said. “It'll help yer tummy feel better.”
“Grandma?” Bella looked up at Brandon in the doorway. He grimaced a bit, holding his stomach. “I'm not really feeling good now.”
Bella groaned and stood up, going over to feel his forehead. “Ya still feel normal. But let's get ya a bucket. Don’ wanna risk it.”
The two of them left the bedroom, and Dipper, Mabel, and Jenny entered behind them.
“We found a cure,” Dipper said, holding out the berries. “Eat these, Taylor. Ok? They'll make you stop barfing.”
Taylor looked sick at the thought, but she reached out to take a berry and pop it in her mouth. She perked up a bit, ate the rest, and grinned. She flapped a bit, bouncing up and down on the bed.
“Your tummy is better?” Tyler asked. Taylor nodded and Tyler grinned, hugging her tightly. Dipper smiled and pulled out the journal and a pen, adding to the barf fairy entry.

How to Watch Mad Men and More Great Shows for Free Right Now
Another day, another brand new streaming platform out there begging you to subscribe to its service so you can ignore your family members and binge-watch a bunch of TV shows and movies in the name of entertainment. This time, it's NBCUniversal's Peacock, which offers a free tier as well as two premium options (one with ads and one without). The service features a number of programs for free, including Friday Night Lights and even Parks and Recreation, but Peacock isn't the only place you can stream great shows without breaking the bank.
Below, we've gathered up a number of shows that don't require you to shell out money for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Apple TV+, HBO Max, Peacock, and/or whatever other streaming service subscriptions are out there. Sometimes you just need a simple freebie. And you know what? You deserve it. So check out the list below and take comfort in knowing it won't cost you a thing.
Watch it on: IMDb TV
Until recently you had to have a Netflix subscription to watch Mad Men, AMC's Emmy-award winning period drama from Matthew Weiner that was dedicated as much to style as it was to substance. The 1960s-set series, which traced the rise and fall of flawed Madison Avenue advertising executive Don Draper (Jon Hamm) through his own complicated relationship with identity, was a pointed commentary on the toxic masculinity, sexism, and racism of the era. It also changed the way we watch and talk about TV. If you haven't seen it yet, now's the perfect time to do so.
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Watch it on: Tubi (complete series), Pluto TV (complete series)
Realizing The Dick Van Dyke Show is streaming for free feels a bit like winning a secret lottery or viewing an exceptional piece of art without paying the museum admission fee. The popular comedy, which ran for five seasons, was created by Carl Reiner and starred Dick Van Dyke as the head writer of a TV show, while Mary Tyler Moore portrayed his wife. It's a timeless classic — one that took home 15 Emmys during its run, and if you've yet to experience it, you literally have no excuse at this point.

Watch it on: ABC app (complete series)
Felicity is best known as the show in which Keri Russell cut her hair (not to be confused with the show in which Keri Russell wore a lot of great wigs, aka The Americans). Depicting Felicity Porter's (Russell) college years and the struggles that accompany trying to figure out who you're supposed to be, the show is also famous for Scott Speedman's whisper-talking and the ongoing battle of Ben (Speedman) vs. Noel (Scott Foley). Although the WB series was previously streaming on Hulu, you can now watch it for free on the ABC app.
A reimagining of the kitschy original series, Syfy's Battlestar Galacticastarred Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Tricia Helfer, Michael Hogan, James Callis, and Jamie Bamber and explored the aftermath of a nuclear attack by the Cylons, cybernetic creatures invented by man who evolved and rebelled against their creators. The show was critically acclaimed for the way it tackled the subjects of science, religion, and politics, and for the way it explored the deeply complicated notion of what makes us human. Everything from the miniseries to the two BSG films (Razor and The Plan) is currently available to stream for free on Syfy's website, so there's no better time to watch it. So say we all!
Watch it on: IMDb TV (complete series), Tubi (complete series), Pluto TV (first 13 seasons), YouTube (first 13 seasons)
For many millennials, the fourth series in the Degrassi franchise, Degrassi: The Next Generation, is the defining iteration of the long-running Canadian series. The drama series, which was sometimes so overly dramatic it was actually funny, tackled everything from date rape and suicide to sexual orientation and teen pregnancy. The series, which launched the careers of Drake (then known as Aubrey Graham) and Nina Dobrev, is streaming on multiple free platforms.
Watch it on: ABC app (complete series)
Eli Stone really had it all, which is to say it had Victor Garber singing George Michael songs, Loretta Devine singing George Michael songs, and George Michael singing George Michael songs. What else is there? ABC's offbeat two-season comedy-drama starred a pre-Elementary Jonny Lee Miller as Eli Stone, a high-powered San Francisco lawyer whose brain aneurysm gave him prophetic visions — which usually involved his friends, family, and colleagues breaking into song. Aside from a couple of ill-advised plotlines (the pilot, which suggests vaccines cause autism, is best forgotten), the show was a blast: a weird but memorable cocktail that should have stuck around for more seasons because, as I mentioned, Victor Garber sang George Michael songs. Also, Sigourney Weaver played God?! -Kelly Connolly
Watch it on: YouTube (nearly every episode)
A true Canadian treasure, The Red Green Show was a long-running comedy starring Steve Smith as Red Green, a handyman who constantly tried to cut corners using duct tape and who had his own cable TV show. It was a parody of home improvement shows and outdoor programs and featured segments like Handyman Corner, Adventures with Bill, and The Possum Lodge Word Game. The show ran for 15 seasons, airing on PBS in the States.

Critically beloved but struck down before its time, My So-Called Life has been praised for its realistic and honest portrayal of teenage life, not just via Angela Chase (Claire Danes), but through the show's young supporting cast as well. Now considered to be one of the best shows of all time, it tackled topics like homophobia, homelessness, drug use, and more without ever feeling preachy or like an after-school special. Also, Jordan Catalano (Jared Leto) could lean.
Watch it on: CW Seed (first five seasons), IMDb TV (first five seasons)
If you don't have Netflix but still want to watch Schitt's Creek, you'll be happy to know you can watch the first five seasons of the heartwarming, Emmy-nominated comedy series, about a wealthy family who loses everything they own except the town of the show's title, for free on CW Seed and IMDb TV.

Watch it on: Peacock (complete series); IMDb TV (complete series)
You may never know what it feels like to have Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) be proud of you, but you can pretend by watching all five seasons of Friday Night Lights, a series that was as much about a Texas community as it was about the sport that united it. By the end of the show, you'll be asking yourself "What Would Riggins Do?" and tattooing "Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose" on your body, all while chanting "Texas forever!" Trust me, it happens to everybody.
Watch it on: CW Seed (complete series)
It is relatively easy to forget that The CW series The Carrie Diaries was a prequel to Sex and the City, because the charming show, which lasted just two seasons, was able to stand on its own. The coming-of-age series that followed a teenaged Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) was relatively innocent compared to the original series. The show's 1980s setting made it easier for the writers to focus on more harmless family storylines and teenage heartbreaks, but the show never shied away from the heartstring-tugging drama of young adulthood either. It's a shame the show never got the kind of ratings it deserved and wasn't able to exist beyond Carrie's high school years, but the Season 2 finale works well as a series finale, so viewers won't feel as if the story was left incomplete. android tv box
Watch it on: CW Seed (complete series)
It's a shame Bryan Fuller's saturated dramedy Pushing Daisies, about a pie-maker (Lee Pace) with the ability to bring the dead back to life, couldn't bring itself back to life after becoming a casualty of the 2007-08 writers' strike. A whimsical delight, the show featured the pie-maker teaming up with a local private eye (Chi McBride) to solve murders by reviving the victims for a brief time. Known for its quirky characters, eccentric visual style, and Jim Dale's pitch-perfect narration, it remains must-see TV.
Watch it on: IMDb TV (first seven seasons); Peacock
Columbo kicked off nearly every episode by revealing the crime and its perpetrator to the audience, which means unlike most crime dramas, the show was less about whodunnit and more about Peter Falk's iconic raincoat-wearing homicide detective catching them and getting them to confess. Oh, and just one more thing: it's great.
Watch it on: CW Seed (complete series)
The charming and playful Forever, which starred Ioan Gruffudd as an immortal medical examiner, was the one show that could have saved ABC's Tuesday at 10 p.m. death slot. But the network still canceled the series anyway, enraging the show's fans, who have never let the sting of its death go. Luckily, it now lives on, ahem, forever (aka until the content license expires) on CW Seed.
Watch it on: IMDb TV (complete series)
It sounds odd to say The Middle, which ran for nine seasons on ABC, was unfairly overlooked, but it always felt like the series, which followed the middle class Midwestern Heck family, was a bit of a hidden gem. It wasn't as popular with Emmy voters as, say, Modern Family, and critics also failed to give it its due, but it was a real, heartfelt, reliable family comedy with mass appeal, and you can stream it on IMDb TV for free. h96 tv box
Watch it on: ABC app (complete series)
Trophy Wife's short life — it was canceled after just one season — can probably be chalked up to its unfortunate title, which was meant to be ironic but ultimately kept viewers from tuning in and experiencing the warmth of the show and the relationships at its center. Malin Akerman starred as the young wife of Bradley Whitford's middle-aged lawyer, and the comedy explored the dynamics between the two, his children, and his two ex-wives, who were played by Marcia Gay Harden and Michaela Watkins. h96 max x3
Watch it on: NBC app (complete series)
Loosely based on the Biblical story of King David, Kings was a compelling drama before its time. Rudely cut down after just one season by NBC, the show starred Ian McShane as the king of the fictional kingdom of Gilboa, while Christopher Egan portrayed an idealistic young soldier whose counterpart is David. The show also starred Sebastian Stan, which is reason enough to want to check it out.
Watch it on: ABC app (complete series)
Ray Wise portrays Satan in Reaper, a supernatural dramedy about a slacker (Bret Harrison) who reluctantly becomes a reaper tasked with capturing escaped souls from hell after it's revealed his parents made a deal with the devil many, many years before. The fact the show only lasted two seasons is a crime against humanity. Luckily, you can watch it in its entirety for free on the ABC app. h96 max x3
Watch it on: IMDb TV (complete series)
A team of experts led by a kooky old scientist (John Noble), his son (Joshua Jackson), and an FBI agent (Anna Torv) investigate strange occurrences around the country, X-Files style, in the J.J. Abrams-produced Fringe. The series is one of the best broadcast science-fiction shows of all time, particularly in its first three seasons, and perfected the art of the serialized procedural by weaving the show's deep mythology and excellent character work into weekly standalone stories, making it easy to binge or watch in spurts. And by the time the end of Season 1 starts, you'll have a hard time stopping. -Tim Surette
Watch it on: Tubi (complete series), Vudu (complete series)
Although American TV producers would eventually adapt Being Human, the original British version, which followed three supernatural beings trying to live amongst humans, is far superior. The show, which ran for five seasons, starred Aidan Turner, Russell Tovey, and Lenora Crichlow as a vampire, werewolf, and ghost, respectively. So skip the U.S. version entirely and watch the U.K. series for free.
Watch it on: Pluto TV (complete series), Vudu (complete series), Tubi (complete series)
The Australian young adult-oriented series Dance Academy is not exactly what you'd call "great television," but it is great fun. Brimming with teen angst and melodrama, the series, which ran for three seasons and even had a follow-up movie, followed a handful of dancers at Sydney's National Academy of Dance as they trained in the sport they loved while also falling in and out of love with each other. The acting was sometimes questionable, but the series itself was addictive, not to mention one of the easiest binges you'll ever encounter. h96 max tv box
3rd Rock From the Sun
Watch it on: Tubi (complete series), Pluto TV (complete series), Crackle (all six seasons), Vudu (all six seasons)
You might think a show about a group of socially awkward, 1,000-year-old aliens in human skin suits who are trying (badly) to pose as a human family and blend into an ordinary Midwest town might sound ridiculous, and, well, that's fair. But 3rd Rock From the Sun was still charming in even its most bizarre moments and gave its cast a lot of room to play up their roles and create an ensemble of weirdos that, at some point or another, start to tap into their newfound humanity and relish their new home here on Earth. -Amanda Bell.

Memories
"Marcella?"
"Mom? Hey!" Marcella held the phone between her ear and her shoulder as she looked for her car key. "I have like, ten missed called from you. What's going on?"
"Sorry, Ah fergot y'were at work- sorry," Bella responded.
"You're fine. Is something wrong?"
"Well- alright, no one died," Bella said.
"Mom..."
"Ok, there's a long story behind this, but quick version- yer dad got his mind wiped an' lost his memories-"
"What?!"
"Don' interrupt me. Ah'll tell ya the whole thing when ya get here- if yer comin-" Bella sighed. "He's havin' trouble rememberin' everythin' 'bout you an' yer siblin's. Ah thought it might help ta have y'all here. T' trigger 'em. That's how the rest of 'em have been workin'-"
"I mean- what, like, he has amnesia?" Marcella frowned.
"Eh- sorta? It's complicated," Bella said. "But there's ways ta get his memories back."
"Well if it helps, yeah, I'll fly over," Marcella said. "Sky'll stay here to watch Jacob and Brittany. And Brandon can fly back with me-"
"Thanks, sweetie. It means a lot."
"Of course, Mom. I'll see you soon."
"Hey, sweetie!"
"Hey, Mom." Marcella hugged Bella, accepting the kiss she left on her cheek. "Is Dad ok?"
"Yeah- yeah, he's alright," Bella confirmed. "Lee jus' got here yesterday- Ella hasn' shown up yet, but she said she'll be here t'morrow, probably."
"Ok-"
"Aunty Marcy!"
Marcella grunted as Taylor and Tyler slammed into her and hugged her.
"Haha! Hey, you two!" She grinned and squeezed them back. A third body joined the group hug. "And Jenny."
"Hey, Mom," Brandon leaned against the doorway leading to the living room.
"Ah! Baby boy!" Marcella grinned and hugged the boy, squishing his cheeks and kissing his forehead.
"Mom, I'm not a baby anymore-" Brandon complained.
"Shush. Where's your grandpa?" Marcella asked.
"In the living room," Brandon said.
"You kids go on- let Marce say hi." Bella shooed the kids upstairs. "Dipper, Mabel!" Said kids appeared from the living room, Mabel holding a scrapbook under her arm. "Marcella's gonna say hi to Stan-"
"Ahh, are you one of Grunkle Stan and Graunty Bella's kids?" Mabel asked excitedly, eyes shining.
"Yeah! I'm your- cousin, I think?" Marcella said. "Wow, I haven't seen you since you were little! But, um- I'm not sure I've met you- Dipper, was it?"
"Y-you have," Dipper mumbled, glancing away and tugging his hat down a bit. "I'm, uh- I-I was-"
"He's my twin!" Mabel interrupted, throwing an arm around her brother. "We saw you when we were seven!"
Everything seemed to click into place rather quickly for Marcella.
"Ah! Ah, alright- yeah!" Marcella smiled. "Well, it's nice to see you again, Dipper. You guys were so small before! It's so weird seeing you both so big."
Dipper smiled and shrugged a bit.
"Alright you two, upstairs with yer cousins," Bella said, shooing them to the stairs. Marcella looked into the living room, where Lee and Stan were sitting on the couch. Stan wrapped an arm around Lee, noogie-ing his head.
"Ah! Dad, cut it out!" Lee laughed, shoving Stan off and adjusting his hair. "I have a thing goin' here."
"Yeah, no one likes the thing you have going on," Marcella teased, folding her arms.
"You don' know what yer talkin' about," Lee said.
"Sorry, who's the fashionista?" Marcella smirked. "Hey, Dad."
"Hey- ...which one are you, again?" Stan frowned a bit.
"Marcella," she said softly, walking over and sitting down. "Mom told me what happened. You ok?"
"Eh, great as I'll ever be." Stan shrugged. "So, uh- you're my daughter."
"Yeah. One of them," Marcella said. "Ella should be heading over. M-my twin."
"Is she the younger one?" Stan asked. Marcella perked up and grinned.
"Yeah! By seven minutes- you remembered!"
"Woah, wait, you're not dad-"
"Oh, um- apologies, I didn't mean to startle you," Ford said, folding his hands behind his back.
"Who- um- so, you're my Uncle Ford?" Marcella asked, frowning a bit.
"...I suppose so." Ford nodded.
"...I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude by staring-" Marcella shook her head, sitting down at the kitchen table. "Dad always said you were dead- it's a bit weird, seeing you."
Ford smiled a bit, turning to pour out a cup of coffee.
"What, ah- what are you doing up so early?" He asked.
"Ah, my routine has always started early," Marcella said, nodding for Ford to pour her a cup as well. "I'm not really doing my routine today, but I'm just used to waking up early. What about you?"
"I don't really sleep," Ford answered.
"...ah."
They fell into an awkward silence as Ford sat down. He ran a finger along the ring of his cup, glancing around.
"...you have polydactyly," Marcella spoke.
"Huh? Oh- yes, I do." Ford nodded.
"Dad told us about that," Marcella said, smiling a bit. Ford smiled back.
"I remember seeing you before the portal," he said. "You and your sister. You were... about two years old, I believe. And now, you're..."
"Old?" Marcella raised an eyebrow and smirked.
"N-no! Not- I didn't mean it like that." Ford sighed and rubbed the side of his neck. "You're grown up. When I saw you, I- I was excited to have nieces to watch grow up. But it never happened."
"...I heard a lot of stories about you," Marcella said softly. "From Mom and Dad. I always wanted to have an uncle like you. Uncle Michael and Jacen are cool, but not as cool as how you sounded."
"Ah- I'm not that cool."
"Ella sure thought you were." Marcella smiled a bit. "She loved hearing stories about you. Wanted to be just like you."
"I've made a lot of bad decisions. No one's goal should to be like me."
"Well, y'know, 'don't speak ill of the dead'." Marcella shrugged. "We never heard about anything really bad."
"...really?"
"Really."
"So, do we got a plan to help Dad's memories or what?"
"Well, Ah did dig out a ton'a old family movies," Bella said, setting down a box of VCRs. "Figured watchin' 'em might help."
"Oh, are there embarrassin' ones of Ella and Marcella?" Lee asked, grinning and digging through the box with Bella.
"Probably not nearly as many as there are of you," Ella retorted.
"Hey. Shut up."
"Hey. Make me."
"Moooom, Ella's being mean," Lee complained.
"Yer thirty-three, figure it out yerself," Bella said. "Oh! Here's the one'a us bringin' Ella an' Marcella home!"
She put the VCR in the VHS and got it to play, moving to sit on the couch. (Though, because it was so crowded, she ended up on Stan's lap instead.
"Alright! This here's the video'a us bringin' Ella an' Marcella home fer the first time-"
"C'mon babe, do you really gotta do this?" Stan was grinning either way, holding one of the twins. The other laid in the crib by their bed.
"Oh man, I had a mullet?" Stan asked.
"You had one up until we had to switch clothes to defeat Bill," Ford said. "We had to cut it so you looked more like me."
"Ah miss it," Bella sighed, playing with the ends of Stan's hair.
"It's April 5th, 1975- the girls were born two days ago," Bella was narrating, though hidden behind the camera. "We just got home from the hospital."
"Still don't see why we have to document it," Stan scoffed, setting the twin he was holding in the crib. "Can't we just, I don't know, call your parents and tell them all this?"
"One day yer gonna be glad that we got these videos ta look back on."
"Yeah, yeah." Stan waved her off playfully. "Make sure you get the girls on camera."
"Here, you do some recordin'," Bella said, handing the recorder over to Stan. She appeared on screen, looking tired but happy.
"Woah! You were hot!" Stan exclaimed.
They all burst into laughter.
"'Were'?" Bella questioned.
"Uh- well, you still are, obviously," Stan stammered. Ford snorted.
"Nice save."
"They're so small," Bella murmured, now holding one of the twins. "What the fuuuuuck. They were really in me?"
"Haha! Yeah, babe- that's how pregnancy works."
"Damn. Ah'm still sorta... in shock," Bella said, shaking her head.
"You did a good job, babe," Stan said.
"We did a good job. Though yeah, Ah did do most'a the work," Bella joked.
"Heh. ...how do I turn this thing off?" Stan asked. The camera moved around like Stan was looking over the recorder.
"Here, it's this button-"
"Ah think the rest'a that one is just their first month 'r so," Bella said, standing up and changing out the VCRs. "Hm... let's do one from after Lee's born."
"Yeah, I wanna see myself as a baby," Lee agreed. Bella smiled and put in a new VCR.
"Girls, say hi t'the camera!"
Ella looked up, her finger in her nose, and grinned and waved at the camera.
"Hello!" Marcella chirped.
"Hey, kid, keep still," Stan grunted. He was painting a design on her face with glitter face paint. Both the twins were dressed as fairies, and three-year-old Lee was running around as a pirate, including the eyepatch Stan wore for tours.
"Lee, are ya excited fer yer first Halloween out trick-'r-treatin'?" Bella asked.
"Yeah!" Lee exclaimed.
"Hey pumpkin, show off your costume to the camera," Stan said. Ella grinned and spun around in her costume, grabbing the fairy wings to make them flap.
"An' we're taking the dolls Daddy made of us!" Marcella added, holding up her doll.
"I still have mine," Marcella said softly.
"You do?" Stan asked.
"Mm-hm. You learned to sew just to make them for us. Of course I was gonna keep it."
"I have mine, too," Ella said. "It's under my pillow in the van."
Stan smiled a bit at the two of them before turning back to the TV, grin remaining on his face.
It was late when Bella woke back up. She, Stan, and Ford were asleep on the couch, and it seemed like Lee and the girls had covered them with a blanket. She smiled softly, stretching and sighing. She slowly stood up, making sure to not bother Stan or Ford.
Although- she probably should make sure they get to their beds. Probably a lot more comfortable.
"Psst- Stan," she whispered, gently shaking Stan. She gently tapped the side of his face, successfully waking him.
"Huh- what-?" Stan grunted, rubbing at his eyes. "Ugh- wha's goin' on?"
"We fell asleep," Bella said, helping Stan up. "C'mon- let's get ta bed."
"Uh, yeah, alright," Stan mumbled and yawned. Bella poked Ford's side.
"Hm-? Oh, hello," Ford yawned. "Sorry. I didn't mean to fall asleep."
"Yer alright. We all did," Bella smiled. "Get ta bed, m'kay?"
"Yes yes, alright," Ford said, nodding and standing up.
"Seriously- no coffee 'r work 'r nothin'," Bella said. "Just get ta bed."
"I will, I will." Ford smiled a bit. "Goodnight."
"Night."
