Here is a spotify playlist of all the music I used, most of which fit the stories or characters in them. They do not flow into each other at all and there's an over-abundance of BRMC (they're my favourite band, shoot me), but these are all songs I really love. Apart from Let it Snow. That's there because I didn't plan any of this.

Final thoughts

Whumpuary2024 is the first month-long challenge I've undertaken, and it was extremely hard and really rewarding. I aimed to average a thousand words a day and blew clear past that most days, and a few times I barely stumbled across the line as beaten and bloodied as the people I was writing about. I'm incredibly glad I did it and I will probably try again next year (though maybe not a prompt a day next time!). Thank you @whumpuary for the fun event and for randomly crossing my dash at a moment when I was feeling creative enough to sign myself up

Findingway - wild magic sorcerer

I made her just to run through the game again as research for Something to Play For, but I really like her. She was born to a family of respectable and scholarly wizards in Baldur's Gate -- no one will confess to who made a deal or slept with a devil, but she suspects her mother. Either way, her appearance + her uncontrollable magic made her the odd duck out. She has a troubled relationship with her family.

At boarding school she met & became close to another tiefling student. He told her how some tieflings choose their own names based on who they are, or who they want to be -- and so 13-year-old Wilhelmina James, desperately trying to figure out where she fit in the world, became Findingway instead. Actually I took the name Findingway from the FFXIV Lopporit because I thought it was cute and didn't expect her to become more than a research vessel

She is a control freak who bottles everything up until she explodes and does something dumb, and/or makes a stupid power grab. She's eaten every tadpole, got the hag eye + ate the skin piece, exploding blood, etc etc and is mad none of them fixed her situation. Try as she might, she's chaos on two feet.

She has I think 23 Charisma and can talk her way into (or out of) aaaanything, but she's not very smart. She's not evil, but is closer to amoral than pure good; she puts herself first. She's romancing Minthara.

She hoards gold and food. It makes her feel important. She has about a million bottles of wine right now, and her future plans are to open a wine boutique in Baldur's Gate.

Yrollam - Dark Urge high elf barbarian

Yrollam woke up in a crashing nautiloid with no memories, but luckily there was this super cool necromancer there to help her. Now it's Yrollam's job to carry bodies and books for her new BFF Elberos (my husband's Tav), and she does it with pride.

She's very much a 'pleeease let me bloody my hands for you' type. Eager to please and with very few limits.

Before the game, she was scholarly and unethical, more of a mad scientist vibe. Currently, she is struggling with controlling her Urge. She's romancing Wyll while Elberos romances Minthara.

I drew her AU where she didn't meet Elberos and she went with Auntie Ethel instead

Sabine - drow druid. I put her at the end even though she's my favorite, since her info runs longer

She was born the third noble daughter of a very low Menzoberranzan House. Seeking Lolth's favor, her parents thought she would make a worthy sacrifice, so they left her as a toddler at the entrance of a giant spider nest. However -- the spiders were sentient but not Lolthsworn, leading to Lolth taking offense at their waste (leaving a precious noble girl out for random spiders? really?) and rejecting their clumsy 'offering.'

Lolth punished her parents instead with a cave-in (killing both her parents, and spelling doom for their now-leaderless House) which also cut off the heretic spiders from her city. The spiders, however, found the drow child, took her in, and raised her as their own.

Sabine is the closest name in Common to what the spiders call her, which is itself a bastardization of the drow name her parents gave her (Z'brnn) - so it's the name she uses aboveground. After reaching adulthood, she left to learn more about drow, figure out where she fits into the world, maybe find a new way into Menzoberranzan... she can wildshape into a spider, but she's uncertain whether she wants to do that permanently so she can return home and fit in with her family, or -- now that she's found so many friends and loved ones -- stay a drow and remain aboveground (more or less - she loves her spider fam, and will visit them whether spider or drow!).

I changed her hair when she got to the city + added some age lines.

She was the Tav I made in early access + again in my first runthrough. I'm going to restart her because I couldn't recruit Minthara back then. Also, she romanced Astarion/Halsin but I think she would be a better fit with Gale (very curious woman + excited infodumper) so I'm changing that on her new playthrough.

She was excited to meet the drow prostitutes. She hired them for several hours just to sit and talk with them about drow culture.

Her Dream Visitor took the appearance of her (bio) father, who she only vaguely remembers.

There's an AU where she was not taken in by the spiders, but by a different House who followed her parents to the edge of the city. They killed her parents in Lolth's name, destroyed their House, and took Sabine (Z'brnn in this canon) + her older sister. She's a Lolthsworn ranger in this timeline, traveling with my husband's Durge (who was redeemed in his playthrough, is evil in this one).

Bonus, Elyon (Ellie) - Dark Urge assassin rogue (based on my neighbor's kitten who went HAM on a pigeon outside...), but I lost heart in her. She was going to be my super-evil playthrough but I don't want to kill Isobel, so she's just stuck in Act 1 forever

Eotenweard: Northumbria (Session 4) Alun R. runs for José Feito, Paul Rivers, Sabine V., and Will H After last session's successful Revelation and resulting cliffhanger...we see the climactic battle to free the people of Brangarw from the influence of their malevolent priest, and conspiring leaders. There are competing claims of heresy, multiple pleas for aid from the Christ God, and a surprising response from...elsewhere. Then...despite both edging closer to death Solinus saves the innocent and Cadoc levels his lance in the name of Christ; Black Jell catches a villain...and let's him go; and Fynn confronts one of the Black Dogs of Annwn. Finally, back on the road following the path their god(s) decree for them, Solinus decides he needs a greater understanding of the power he serves...

Delta Green: Impossible Landscapes (Session 12) Shane runs for Blake Ryan, Mark (he/they), and Puckett The agents approach a demon for help finding the mysterious Hotel Broadalbin, but the route he suggests is bizarre, dangerous, and oddly connected to one of the agents' pasts.

Girl By Moonlight: Divine Engines (Session 3) Lowell Francis runs for Ethan Harvey, Patrick Knowles, Sherri, and Tyler Lominack The battle against the fallen cathedral world Leviathan is successful but takes its toll on the team. They return to the ship to regroup and try to rebuild themselves as a team. But the Bastion's jump to escape pursuit leads them to a star system Tav recognizes from the future--the site of Sia's death and his original time jump.

Girl By Moonlight: Divine Engines (Session 4) Lowell Francis runs for Ethan Harvey, Patrick Knowles, Sherri, and Tyler Lominack The team launches out to explore the mysteries of Tyrfing III, requiring them to disembark from the Engines to explore this silenced colony. After facing down and nearly being destroyed by mechanical guardians, the group comes face to face with the force which destroyed this world-- a face Tav recognizes as his own.

Free from the Shadow: Samurai Fantasy (Session 3) Lowell Francis runs for Cale P, Elle, Mike Minutillo, and Sherri We see the machinations of the clans go in various directions which seems to signal disaster. But progress on the Imperial project continues. With the aid of the Imperial Herald, the protagonists head to the site of an ancient duel in orders to uncover secrets. But they find a horde of undead and a more powerful being which lies dying belowground.

Hearts of Yokai (Session 2) Lowell Francis runs for Anders, Donogh, Matthew Doughty, and Sabine V. Mirage delivers her gift with unexpected results, Path and Scale have a moment or two of miscommunication, Lord Bloom deals with the location scouts and executes a party.

Hearts of Yokai (Session 3) Lowell Francis runs for Agatha, Anders, Donogh, and Sabine V. In the aftermath of Lord Bloom's party, Squeaktune returns. There's a moment of confession from Scale to Mirage, which sends Squeaktune scurrying away. Preparations for the ball celebrating the turn to the Court of Tides are interrupted by a flying dream sword--the pursuit of which leaves Mirage bleeding in the street.

So I finished BG3(spoilers) and well those endings were lacking, you can’t even talk with the companions. My Tav is a mindflayer and going with Karlach to Avernus with Wyll made sense for a selunite. If you do that you don’t even finish things with Shadowheart, also Astarion just runs lol

Love the game but this is maybe the weakest part.

Edit: I love drama and bittersweet arcs, so not endings things with a white hair Shadowheart is making me want to draw a proper ending, this is bad because I am also currently doing Shin and Sabine week prompts art. Help.

currently considering renaming my durge, who is currently named sabine. i picked that name out quickly and name meaning doesn't usually mean too much to me when i'm doing character design/creation stuff, the sound and aesthetics of the name is usually more important. but as i learned more about durge i feel like there being some importance to the meaning IS called for here, or at least is a nice addition.

(sabine would still exist as KIND of her name, the thing her adoptive family called her, but that name was taken from her. i think there would be a temptation to reclaim it post-lobotomy once some memories start filtering back in, but i think she'd feel she doesn't deserve to. more likely to just come up with a whole new name entirely tbh but we'll worry about potential post-game names another time.)

anyway the two names i'm considering:

Abaddon

Meaning/source: biblical name for both a place of destruction and an angel of the abyss, references to 'destroyer' in the etymology, etc

Pros: fun to say! easy for me to say too which is good b/c i talk about her out loud a lot. using religious imagery and names etc for my little OCs and AUs etc always kinds of scratches an itch in my ex-catholic brain. overall just kind of a cool name.

Cons: makes me think of the spn character of the same name. i've seen it used by other people for their bg3 durges and tavs, which isn't a bad thing at all but i always have anxiety over stuff like that lol. too many sounds are similar to 'Astarion', who she romances, which is me being nit-picky tbh. there being a real-world religious connotation is a con as well in a way i can't fully pinpoint. my instinctive nickname for the name would be 'abby', which is my niece's name so i can't, or 'don'/'donny', which is my dead uncle's name so i can't.

and then

Merripen

Meaning/source: manages to mean both 'life' and 'death' at the same time

Pros: the meaning is cool, love that. could nickname her Merry/Merri which i just think is fun in general but also especially for little miss murder incarnate. i just think it's a cute name! also haven't seen it used for other durges or tavs yet, which, again, would not be the Final Straw by any means but it's a thing i like to note. also no real-world religious connotation.

Cons: the way the name is pronounced is a little unnatural for me (mehr-RAY-pin), doesn't flow as easy for me specifically, which again is a thing i gotta note as i'll be talking about her out loud with my mouth words; i don't ALWAYS wanna call her merri. that's the only con that comes to mind immediately but it's a big one to me honestly ahaha

currently leaning more towards abaddon but i don't want to give up on merripen either. so. thinking about it. turning it over in my head. this is an extremely important decision after all.
