I used to talk about this a lot but 

IDW Prowl is probably one of the most complex characters in the comics and I absolutely hate it when hes reduced down to “the asshole character”

Cause like

Yeah sure hes got a bit of a stick up his ass

But I feel like people just end there analysis of him there

Has he committed a lot of war crimes and done unethical stuff

Yes

But so has literally EVERYONE else in this universe

Starscream is literally the pinnacle of war crimes

The comics make a point calling out even Optimus for his questionable actions and orders during the war with the Dinobots saying he makes them do the dirty work for him

Megatron literally commits genocide and yet his story ends with an alternate version of him going free and exploring the universe with the LL

The literal war lord was treated better and is looked upon more positively than Prowl and I think it just came down to how fucked Prowl got by the writers

Because while Megatrons redemption was all in your face and you got a shit ton of flashbacks that try to justify the eventual atrocities he would commit you don’t get that with Prowl

Even when Prowl is absolutely in the right you constantly have it disregarded by characters making jokes about him overreacting (being mad OP is sending the space tyrant away with free reign of his own ship isn’t overreacting btw-) and as such you start to think of him as a genuinely irrational character when hes not

Prowl is bad at keeping the relationships he forms yes 

But he is not always at fault for that

While his relationship with CD ended poorly Chromedome is also shown to be kinda of a dick sometimes and commits his fair share of fucked up things such as when he literally ATTACKS PROWL AND FORCES HIS WAY INTO HIS MIND TO PROTECT HIMSELF FROM THE CONSEQUENCE OF HIS ACTIONS WHEN PROWL THREATENS TO TELL REWIND ABOUT THE SHITTY STUFF HE DID IN HIS PAST

This leads to Prowls inevitable snowball out of control when this attack leads to an opening for Bombshell (I think its been a while since I read the comics) to use his tech to mind control him forcing him into combining with the contructicons

Something we learn is an immensely intimate thing with their minds being kinda melded 

This was something Prowl did not want 

And when all was said and done and he was calmed down he still had to live with that gesalt he was forced into with them following him around like fanboys

Nobody ever even really stopped to check in on him 

And as such he understandable went a little bit insane

He had just faced an immensely traumatic invasion of his body and mind and on top of stress form feeling like everything was out of his control and like he couldn’t stop the bad things from happening alongside bitter emotions being brought back up with a return visit to Earth and reunion with spike AND the fact that he feels like Optimus doesn’t trust him and like hes just letting Starscream do whatever he want (something that understandably freaks him out seeing as how he spent 4 million years fighting Starscream) he just kinda snaps

He trys to destroy the space bridge so that no one else can leave or get through and so he can regain some semblance of control

Is it wrong

Yes

But he was not in a good state of mind and no one was helping him at all 

And immediately following his arrest afterward Prowl is confronted by OP who is supposed to be his friend and when Prowl doesn’t say the right things to him to placate him Optimus’ response is to punch him out a window and beat the shit out of him

And not being given any room to breath this is immediately follow up my him getting kidnapped by Tarantulas who is very obviously an impactful and negative part of his past

Prowl just has bad event, one after the other, happen to him over and over again and not only does no one check up on him afterwards to see if hes okay but everyone actively makes fun of him for being understandable unstable

Prowl is a fucking tragedy and not many people seem to be able to see beyond what characters in the comics think of him

in no particular order:

mtmte whirl: hes great, his introduction was great and DAMN the knowing he can change what makes him angry and spiteful yet not doing it cause he knows he wont have anything left to keep him goes gets me every damn time. also theres a comic dub that fucking nails his voice for me. a shame the never did more than 3 issues and a few snippits. also also hae you seen the stuff he says?? delightful.

tfp soundwave: holy shit the explanations on why i love him so much can and have gone on for several hours. in summary, hes cool hes competent, his look being uncanny (cybertronian-wise), his figthting is such a rare treat to behold in the way its almost a dance and!!! he has very subtle shows of emotion!!!! tfp season 2 episode 14 will forever be my favourite

TFA shockwave: what tfp makeshift failed to be, a proper shapeshifting decepticon spy. I love his creepyness so much and the fact his autobot disguise to grey like a corpse is just..... man its so neat. also the antenna remind me of deer antlers

tfp showckwave: antennas twitch n its the cutest thing to watch. honestly his animation is always super interesting, and the way they've done his head/eye in this design. He's super intimidating too, like when i watched tfp as a kid n saw him my jaw dropped - that entrance was spectacular especially after thinking he was dead just like everyone else in universe. MAN.

earthspark taurantulas: OH MY GOD you have no idea how exited i was to see him for the first time, i'd heard so many things about him and while he doesnt sound like i intially thought he would i atually prefer it so much more. Man just wanted to live in peace. My guy just wanted to be left alone. In comes this kid wanting to help him out and he tries to help him in return (but with the wrong idea) before actually helping him in return i think he's super sweet.

“Gerald,” he responds curtly, dropping his gaze to the wire once again. You snort.

“Gerald!” Of course, Asa would name a taurantula ‘Gerald.’

“How about this one?” you ask, pointing to the leaf insect creeping across a vine in the next terrarium. Asa’s eyes narrow. You can see him weighing the pros and cons of reavealing the odd name he’s chosen.

“Timothy.” You devolve into a fit of laughter. Asa throws his pliers at your head.

relatively wealthy, her parents are government officials (with her father aiming to take the political path) 

bitna hasn’t had any particular interactions with humans, but if they don’t bother her then why would she bother them? (some boys are cute though)

has never worked a day in her life and it shows. however, since young has been set on the path of high witch, dealt with tutors and etc over the years (till she finally refused)

despises being told what to do, as her mom would put it, she’s “ungrateful” just like everyone else her age

all in all, a snippy “proper” young lady (knows the mannerisms, is haughty, but ultimately hates that this is what she’s become)

parties though, well on the way to idk... reforming her image, gunning for some freedom to make her own decisions

hates her familiar (or rather, the form he’s chosen to take), mercy, has tried to killed him many times in hopes he’d come back in cuter form (she does not! care for spiders) -- so far nothing, though

frequently steamrolls people in conversations (means she’s bossy), she’s sensitive—so to counter that, bitna often favors going on the offensive first

father died young, something about eating the wrong tart (or screwing the wrong tart) and succumbing to his untimely death — he’s not too sure about the details but he and his mom moved back to seoul shortly after

his stance on humans are painfully neutral, larry doesn’t particularly like or hate them -- he supposes they’re bearable

had to "grow up" and take on responsibilities early on as the only son to a single mother

worked a ton of strange jobs in his community (mostly tending to his neighbors lawns, magical plants, getting rid of their pixie problem, etc)

his mood often fluctuates, ranging from highs (in which he will indulge his friends on outings and parties etc) to lows (in which he’d prefer to be alone with his plants and potions and grimoire)

keeps a personal grimoire with newly invented spells and enchantments (most of which he’s tested on himself or other objects) as well as plants etc (maaaaybe even some personal chapters if you flip back enough)

has a medium sized terrarium in his room (enchanted to keep at ideal temperatures), currently trying to grow a couple of interesting seedlings he swiped out of herbology

loves his familiar, for one, often found rubbing her stomach to better help digestion (for some reason, bell keeps eating like shit and larry is not sure why)

personality wise, he’s amicable, but often keeps people at arm’s length, most relationships (platonic or otherwise) often don’t work out given the fact that he’s on the aloof side, highly values his personal space and time (and so dips off the face of the earth for weeks at times)

As much as I dislike revamping/retconning a fakemon I’ve made relatively recently, I put a lot of thought into how to deal with really wanting to name an upcoming fake something similar to its old name “Taurantula”. The new design may look less physically imposing with its skinnier legs, but it now ostensibly bares a resemblance to an orb weaver- called “onigumo” in Japanese while Spinnotaur is based on an Ushi Oni. And while they’re both giant spider yokai, trust me, my Tsuchigumo fakemon will look completely different from this guy.
