“what’s your name? where do you come from?”

   xomara de lon, prefers xio, was born and raised in the streets of queens, nyc. she was born to two high school sweethearts, alberto de leon and imelda chavez.  things were okay in her household up until her fifth birthday. she can still remember how her father said ‘i have to run to your aunts for your gift! i forgot i had it sent there so you didn’t  see it if it arrived here, pumpkin.’ but he never did returned. despite things feeling off, especially when she saw him take two suitcases with him, xiomara really felt like her father would be coming back. but regardless of how he left, xio never stopped loving or thinking about her father, and despite her mother’s comments about him, to this day, she still searches for any clues on his whereabouts.

   growing up after her 5th birthday was tough in her household. her mother did not take her father leaving very lightly, instead, she turned to alcohol to subside her feelings but eventually that turned sour too. at the age of ten, along side her younger sibling (a year younger), faye moved to houston, texas with her mother. it was supposed to be a new start for imelda (her mother)  but she ended up falling more into her depression and bottles. even though things were rough behind the scenes, especially with her mother’s ever-changing boyfriends, xiomara did everything in her power for things to seem perfect on the outside. it helped that the girl had an eye for style and she used that to her advantage. by the time she hit high school, there wasn’t a day she didn’t look seemingly perfect with her glossed lips, always done hair, freshly done manicures, and perhaps one of the most important parts to her, her signature red scrunchy. she always tried to have her scrunchy on her whether it be in her hair or on her wrist, it was the only thing her mother ever said she looked pretty in. her favorite memory of those days was the day she met her ride or die(s), (WC NAME), (WC NAME), & (WC NAME).

“what are some things that you like? some things you dislike?”

    some of the things that make xio happy are animals, flowers, summer time, thunderstorms, the fresh smell of rain after a storm, most foods, her sibling, living life to the fullest, and, of course, the most important thing to her, her singing.. she’s the kind of person who will do pretty much anything with you if it sounds fun, like spontaneous road trips. some of her favorite activities are shopping with the girls, going to the salon, writing, drawing, gaming, occasionally smoking weed,  and traveling. things that don’t really fly by xio are cheaters, liars, anyone who hurts her friends, brussels sprouts, speaking ill about her family, people who spoil movies/tv shows,  and anyone trying to use her scrunchy.  she loves the ocean but she’s also terrified of it and everything that could be in it. despite that, though, she does enjoy the beach...just don’t expect her to go too deep into the water.

About the Physician

Down one of the many well traveled halls she walks. Arms full of cardboard boxes that stack near above her head. This tiny woman is moving quickly, despite her inability to see over the boxes in front of her. Her destination is the clinic.

Outside of the closed door, the woman drops the boxes, reaching into her pocket to withdraw a small plaque, engraved with her title.

Dr. Faye Church

She snorted at the irony of it all. She was, after all, in a church that represented the opposite of what one might think. The good doctor slides the plaque into the slot next to the door, effectively pushing out the old plaque. It clatters to the ground, next to her boxes.

Dr. Church smooths down her skirt, and reaches to grab it, making a note to trash the offending item later on. With a twist of her wrist, she opens the door and scoots her boxes in with the side of her leg. She is finally here.

“My qualifications are right up on the wall, take a look. I didn’t earn those degrees for you not to look at them.”

Appearance:

A very small woman, no taller than 5 foot 1 inch, but she’s constantly in heels so no one truly recognizes how short she is. Whilst very short, she’s somewhat curvaceous, having more hips than she does bust. If there’s one thing you’d noticed about her in... that department, it’d be the plush hips and plump bottom she’s got. Dr. Church has blue eyes, and long lashes. Her lips are almost always coated in some shade of lipstick, and she quite enjoys playing with her makeup. The doctor’s hair is dark shade of brown and reaches well past her chest if it is straightened, though she almost always wears it naturally. Her curls are either free, or thrown into a bun or ponytail to keep it from her face as she works. Dr. Church has a few tattoos, only one of which is plainly in view. There is a grey scale inked dagger tattooed on her inner wrist on her left arm. The hilt is the figure of a skeletal woman swathed in fabric. The faint edges of a scar can be seen just underneath the raised ink, it looks eerily like a cross. (Reference)

Her usual attire consists of skirts and feminine blouses, and you most certainly will not see her in pants if she can help it. Very often, she wears stockings and tights beneath her skirts, but that’s usually if she’s feeling cold that day. The lab coat she wears almost constantly, has a little bat embroidered on the left pocket. Most importantly, you won’t ever see her in anything but heels. The complex she has about her height is so incredibly deep rooted, that she’s never stopped wearing the ridiculous shoes, and never will.

Known History:

Dr. Church was working at a church’s clinic in UNDISCLOSED, providing her assistance for the homeless and those with no health care, and serving as the onsite physician. It’s said that an incident involving an investor occurred at the church, and the doctor fled. The clergy contacted her and she was hired on a eight months later. The once religious woman was… changed.

Quirks, Tidbits:

Don’t ever call the doctor by her first name, unless she’s told you her name. She’s very quick to anger, when that happens unpormpted. Names have power, after all.

Making fun of the doctor’s height is a sure fire way to irritate her, if that’s what you’re after.

She’s Australian, and has the accent to match, though she tries to control it.

Dr. Church, whilst religious enough, can not stand wearing the habit. She hates it. So, she simply refuses to wear one. She’s waiting until someone literally forces her into having to wear one. Until then… not happening.

Whilst being fairly new to the clergy is difficult for her, she’s an open book and ready to learn anything and everything.

Dr. Church can and will discourage anything that brings you to her clinic. Don’t get into a fight and come limping up to her if you don’t want to be reprimanded and flicked on the head. Get a butt plug stuck up your ass? Should’ve used one with a better flare, and she will make sure to mention how disappointed she is about having to fish it out. However, she’s never one to turn a patient away. Often times, her initial scolding will melt into her babying her patient, doing everything in her power to make them well again.

She’s godlike at dance/rhythm/music games. Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, Jubeats, all of it. Don’t ever challenge her unless you want to lose.

Broadway plays and musicals are a staple of Long Island Weekly’s arts and entertainment content. We love featuring the latest hits and sharing interviews with the stars of shows, as well as up-and-coming actors and actresses. Despite a record-breaking season, the post-Tonys slaughter was a bloodbath in 2019, with half a dozen shows closing soon after the broadcast and half a dozen more closing since. Though we were sad to see some of them go, the silver lining is that dozens of new shows have and will be opening in their place. We look forward to sharing even more excellent theater content in the upcoming year.

In January, I spoke with Eric Anderson, who played a fairy godfather-type role in Pretty Woman: The Musical. The show, adapted from the classic Garry Marshall film, starred Samantha Barks and Andy Karl and ran for exactly one year at the Nederlander.

In February, Christina Claus chatted with Angie Schworer about the glitz and zazz of The Prom. The musical comedy featured Broadway actors playing Broadway actors who make it their mission to help high school student Emma, who is banned from bringing her girlfriend to the prom. The Prom ran for about 10 months and will be adapted by Ryan Murphy into a Netflix film this fall.

Early in 2019, Jennifer Fauci spoke to Christiani Pitts, who starred as Ann Darrow in King Kong. The musical adaptation of the 1933 film featured the largest puppet ever created for the stage—a sophisticated animatronic/marionette hybrid that was impressively controlled by puppeteers on stage. A mixed reception resulted in a run length of less than a year.

In March, Dave Gil de Rubio caught up with Chazz Palminteri to talk about his musical A Bronx Tale, based on the Robert DeNiro-led 1993 film that handles topics of family, racial tension and coming of age. Palminteri toured the country with a one-man show version of the semi-autobiographical tale, and made a stop at The Paramount in Huntington.

In April, Jennifer Fauci interviewed Amra Faye Wright, who had, at the time, played Velma Kelly in more than 2,700 performances of the long-running Chicago. The following month, Anthony Murray spoke to Derrick Baskin of Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations. Baskin was nominated for a Tony for his role of Otis Williams.

Also in May, I had the privilege of chatting with Garden City native Joe Iconis about his outstanding musical comedy Be More Chill. No other show in history made it to Broadway by virtue of fan support alone. Buzz started with the viral music video of “Michael in the Bathroom,” and continued with the release of the original cast recording, which carried the cult sensation to the Off-Broadway and then Broadway stage. Iconis earned a Tony nomination for best original score, but the show was otherwise locked out of the award show. Unfortunately, Be More Chill closed after only seven months, but it will premiere on London’s West End this February and a film adaptation is in the works.

The following month, Christina Claus spoke to Sophia Anne Caruso and Kerry Butler, stars of Beetlejuice alongside Tony-nominated Alex Brightman. The ghoulish musical based on the Tim Burton classic embraces the topic of death and has no problem breaking the fourth wall as it pelts audiences with a constant stream of comedy.

Also in June, Dave Gil de Rubio interviewed master illusionist Criss Angel as he brought Criss Angel RAW-The Mindfreak Unplugged to the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre as part of its In Residence on Broadway series. The Long Island native discussed his signature levitation illusion as well as his thoughts on charlatans who use the guise of magic to prey on desperate people.

In July, I spoke to Lilli Cooper about her lead role in the comedy musical Tootsie, based on the Sydney Pollack film starring Dustin Hoffman and Jessica Lange. The Broadway musical featured music and lyrics by David Yazbek, a book by Robert Horn and Santino Fontana in the title role. It is scheduled to close on Jan. 5, 2020.

In the summer, I chatted with Christina Sajous about kicking butt in the Off-Broadway musical Broadway Bounty Hunter written by Joe Iconis. Joseph Wolkin interviewed Steven Skybell and Jennifer Babiak, stars of Fiddler on the Roof, or Fidler Afn Dakh, the Yiddish version of the beloved musical. The Off-Broadway production, which is directed by Joel Grey, will also close on Jan. 5.

Then in the fall, Jennifer Fauci celebrated the 25th anniversary of Disney Theatrical Productions with a combination feature on The Lion King, Aladdin and Frozen—three major, long-running hits for Disney on Broadway. She also reviewed Tennessee Williams’ The Rose Tattoo starring Marisa Tomei.

Last month, I was honored to interview Jewelle Blackman, Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer and Kay Trinidad, also known as The Fates of the Tony-winning musical Hadestown. Written by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and directed by Rachel Chavkin, the show intertwines the mythological love stories of Orpheus and Eurydice and Hades and Persephone as a breathtakingly beautiful folk opera that will hopefully have a home on Broadway for a long time.

Jennifer Fauci recently chatted with Campbell Scott about taking on a role his father once played in A Christmas Carol. As Ebenezer Scrooge, he rediscovers the warmth, generosity and true meaning of Christmas. She also spoke to Chris McCarrell and Ryan Knowles of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical about bringing the beloved book series to stage. Like many others, A Christmas Carol and The Lightning Thief both close on Jan. 5.

Finally, two weeks ago, I reviewed Slava’s Snowshow, the limited-engagement spectacle that enchants and envelops audiences in a snow storm they’ll never forget. See it at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre through Jan. 5. In the final weeks of December, Anthony Murray spoke to Andrea Martin, of A Christmas Carol, and illusionist Derren Brown, of Derren Brown: Secret.

In addition to our continuous coverage of Broadway and Off-Broadway, we make an effort to highlight the local theater scene. Through a multimedia collaboration with Waldo Cabrera, we bring features on productions by The Argyle Theater in Babylon Village and the John W. Engeman Theater in Northport to our readers online and in print. We also strive to give some love to The Gateway and Patchogue Theater out east, as well as community theaters in our coverage area, including Herricks Players and Creative Arts Playhouse in Syosset.

It's been years since I've looked in on Maggie and Hopey so this new graphic novel chronicling their adventures at a punk music reunion in Huerta was a perfect way for me to catch up on their lives. The girls have always had a complicated relationship and things haven't changed too much now that Esperanza/Hopey is married to another woman with a son and Maggie is in a long term relationship with a man. I loved the flashbacks to their younger days and unlike Dan De Carlo's Betty and Veronica, these women have aged and Jaime shows that beautifully. Love & Rockets fans must buy this graphic novel.

 Archie #708 - Nick Spencer & Mariko Tamaki (writers) Sandy Jarrell (artist) Matt Herms (colours) Jack Morelli (letters). Lots of mysterious things going on in this issue as Archie and Sabrina's picnic in the woods is interrupted while Jughead and Reggie's investigation into Reggie's father's disappearance receives a major clue. These modern Archie comics are so much more interesting than the old school stuff.

 Guardians of the Galaxy #10 - Donny Cates (writer) Cory Smith (pencils) Victor Olazaba (inks) David Curiel (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). The reunion with an ex-Guardian doesn't go well but not to worry folks, Groot and his pals come to the rescue. I like the new Magus reborn. Oh, and the cover is a total fib.

 Absolute Carnage #4 - Donny Cates (writer) Ryan Stegman (pencils) JP Mayer, Jay Leisten & Ryan Stegman (inks) Frank Martin (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). All seems lost when Carnage absorbs the Venom symbiote from a defeated Hulk but hold your horses folks, Eddie Brock will save the day. It's a major change for this character so you won't want to miss it.

 Metal Men #1 - Dan Didio (writer) Shane Davis (pencils) Michelle Delecki (inks) Jason Wright (colours) Travis Lanham (letters). Unlike the recently released Inferior Five we actually have the Metal Men in this debut issue. I'm glad I gave Dan Didio a chance because he impressed me with this story. The discovery of a sentient Nth metal might be similar to Marvel's Venom symbiote but I'm hoping the rest of this 12-issue maxi doesn't devolve into Will Magnus's Metal Men fighting this new entity.

 Superman Year One #3 - Frank Miller (writer) John Romita Jr. (pencils) Danny Miki (inks) Alex Sinclair (colours) John Workman (letters). Great Caesar's ghost that was a slog. I actually fell asleep partway through this. This 3-issue mini did not deserve the prestige DC Back Label imprint treatment. The writing was hackneyed and the art was unspectacular. I got tired of the clipped, repetitive captions after only a few pages because they ran on and on. And even though this is some of John Romita Jr.'s best work there was nothing special about it. These stories of Superman's early adventures could've been done in a 6-issue $3.99 US monthly and fans would have been happy. The big blue boy scout is not a good fit for Frank Miller. The style of writing he used in this last issue is more suited to someone like Green Arrow or the Question. If he follows through with another Superman story like he teased on the last page I would think twice before spending the time to read it.

 X-Men #1 - Jonathan Hickman (writer) Leinil Francis Yu (pencils) Gerry Alanguilan (inks) Sunny Gho (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). This is the first new X-Team book to hit the racks following the twelve issues of House and Powers of X that laid the foundation for Marvel's mutant revamp. It introduces the good guys (the mutants) and the bad guys (human scientists hell bent on eradicating mutants). The team rescues young mutants from the bad guys and safely return to Krakoa leaving behind a lot of dead humans. Yes, no more mister nice mutant. The team consists of Cyclops, Storm, Polaris, Magneto, Dr. Reyes, Jean Grey, Havok, Vulcan, Wolverine, Cable and Prestige (I know her as Rachel Summers). Only Scott, Ororo, Erik and Lorna go on the mission so no crazy Canucklehead antics this issue, sigh. I liked this enough to want to keep reading but not enough to add it to my "must read" list.

 Killswitch #1 - Jeffrey & Susan Bridges (writers) Walter Geovani (art) Brittany Peer (colours) Simon Bowland (letters). This sci-fi comic book is about a future where a small minority of people can see the future. They're called Augers. The rest of humanity fears them and have them rounded up in detention centres. Sounds familiar. The main character is Major Marcella Regula who turned in her own brother as an Auger. She's the new head of security at a detention centre in a domed city built on a comet. She hits the killswitch to try and save an Auger from dying but fails. Then she helps the dead man's friends to escape. I picked this up because I really liked the art but the story didn't spark joy. I'm hitting the killswitch on this one.

 The Marked #1 - David Hine (writer) Brian Haberlin (art) Geirrod Van Dyke (colours) Francis Takenaga (letters). This new book is full of magic and the art is stupendous. An ancient order of tattooed magic users tasked with fighting the forces of chaos have found a new recruit. So has a malevolent government agency after one of the Marked is banished. I cared about Saskia and her new friends by the end of this issue so I want to find out what happens to them. I'm going to read this as long as I can.

 The Batman's Grave #1 - Warren Ellis (writer) Bryan Hitch (pencils) Kevin Nowlan (inks) Alex Sinclair (colours) Richard Starkings (letters). The opening pages did not surprise me because I know someone who has their tombstone already in place. Batman investigates when a dead body is found in a tenement building. The victim had a wall full of Batman clippings and this 12-issue maxi is off and running. I love the detective side of Batman so I'm adding this to my "must read" list.

 Spider-Man #2 - J. J. Abrams & Henry Abrams (writers) Sara Pichelli (art) Elisabetta D'Amico (inking assistant) Dave Stewart (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Two issues in and Ben has met his MJ. Her name is Faye Ito and she's a pip. So much for the old secret identity. Also cue the super villain menace appearance. You won't hear me complaining that there are too many Spider-Man books on the racks as long as they're this good.

 Inferior 5 #2 - Jeff Lemire (writer) Keith Giffen (plot & pencils) Michelle Delecki (inks) Hi-Fi (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). That's enough for me. This is just too weird. If you're into weirdness, you will certainly like this.

 Something is Killing the Children #2 - James Tynion IV (writer) Werther Dell'Edera (art) Miquel Muerto (colours) AndWorld Design (letters). I like Erica Slaughter, monster hunter. She gives this horror story a lot of spunk.

 Contagion #3 - Ed Brisson (writer) Mack Chater & Stephen Segovia (art) Veronica Gandini & Andrew Crossley (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). I'll give Ed Brisson this, he sure knows how to string a Marvel maniac along. Jessica Jones was the one to entice me to read this issue and the heroes that show up to help fight the fungus next issue makes me want to read that too. And that's not to mention the Wrecking Crew either.

 Once & Future #3 - Kieron Gillen (writer) Dan Mora (art) Tamra Bonvillain (colours) Ed Dukeshire (letters). Evil King Arthur gets his Galahad while Duncan and his granny get help from a historian. I like granny's simple solution for keeping the bad guys from winning.

 Batman #81 - Tom King (writer) John Romita Jr. & Mitch Gerads (pencils) Klaus Janson & Mitch Gerads (inks) Tomeu Morey & Mitch Gerads (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). We're getting there folks. Bear with us. That Thomas Wayne is one tough Batman. He takes on Batwoman, Batgirl, Orphan, Huntress, Red Robin, Robin and Signal and manages to survive. Damn that no killing rule. Meanwhile, Batman and Catwoman get into Arkham Asylum to get to Bane. I liked how all the stuff leading up to this issue is explained even though it was hard to follow.

Chapter 2

“My sister from London” he replies, leaning over the counter to take the mug from Yoongi's hand.

“I see. Are you having anything?”

I turn to him. His eyes are heavy and full of a dark lust that send chills down my spine, his eyebrows raised and his lips slightly apart waiting for an answer. “Whiskey,” I quickly pick myself up from his sharp features. Yoongi doesn’t look very impressed with my order, yet a ‘not bad’ grimace appears on his face for a moment. Then I realize how irritated I am with all that situation.

Taehyung sits down in one of the tables and I stand next to him in the chair facing the door. The snow was now intense. “There’s a blizzard coming” he draws the words out of my mouth, sucking the beer foam with a noise. I want to ask if they are buttery like the ones in the movie, but that would sound stupid coming from me. I frown when a tattooed arm crosses behind my shoulder and puts a shot in front of me, leaving a sweet perfume that by itself already irritates me enough. I don’t thank him, and I put my cashmere coat on the back of the chair before spilling the dose at once.

“Faye, this is Yoongi. And Yoongi... that’s the girl we were talking before” Tae changes his inspection look between us two. Then, between a swallow and another, he pushes the mug away from his lips “That’s fucking warm” and walks to the opposite side, past the counter and disappearing into the back door, leaving me and the guy alone. While I look at the table I can feel his stare on me.

I fidget with the glass between my fingers and try to think of something, anything to take me out of here, because Yoongi seems as interested in talking as I do. The minutes go by and we only hear Tae from afar, in what I suppose to be a kitchen, cursing against something he had broken. It’s only after some time in silence that someone decides to speak. Curiously, it’s me.

“About me, mh?” I ask, referring to what Taehyung said, still half groggy with the bitter taste of the whiskey. For a moment I think he’s actually surprised I really said something.

“I wouldn’t flatter myself” he pulls out a chair and sits backwards. He throws the napkin over his shoulder, folds his arms in the wooden guard and stares at me. Deeply. “And then?”

“What?” I frown.

“Ten minutes and I only heard you speak for whiskey.”

My spine chills once again. I’m probably blushed right now. “You offered.”

“You accepted. You killed the dose, look” he runs his finger along the edge of the glass, cynical. I move back and watch his tattooed phalanxes playing with it.

“If you didn’t want to serve me then why did you offer it?” My voice sounds more annoyed than I really am, yet it doesn’t seem to have any effect on Yoongi.

He just sniffs and stands up, looks at me over by the corner of his eye before returning to the counter: “I didn’t say that.”

It’s ridiculous what a raspy voice does to me, especially the hoarse ones. I change my mind and immediately put my coat as I feel my arm hairs bristling, before anyone can realize my allergic reaction to a deep voice, tattoos and a handsome smile. Apparently Yoongi realized, or thought I was very funny, because he made his way back to the counter with a slight small laugh on his red lips.

For the first time in a while I feel like kissing and hugging Tae when he comes back from the kitchen, because my body was already collapsing by being here all alone with that guy. Instead of being all overwhelmed I should’ve been way smarter, too late now. Then I sit there with a crease in my forehead, instead of giving that Yoongi a very shrewd answer or anything that left him open-mouthed.

“Here it is” Tae drops a long neck beer cracking in front of us and sits in the same spot, sipping his. “No beer from the barrel, the refrigerator is broken. Didn’t you see it earlier?”

Yoongi's forehead wrinkles and he purses his lips in irritation. “Of course I did, don’t be stupid. Jungkook swung a ball at the wires, playing goal kick. I'll make him fucking pay for it.”

Taehyung burst out laughing. “I bet ten pounds he hit a pine tree and got lost on the road since yesterday. There's no way he'd come home pissed the way he was.”

The two laugh and Tae continues, wiping a tear in the corner of his eye “I think we should call him. Just to make sure. Ah! Sorry Fay, do you want something else? Since you like whiskey there's a scotch here and...”

“There is?” I was awaken from my reverie. I have in fact always hated beer, and contrary to my cousin I disagree it suits well the cold seasons. “Scotch sounds good” I say, and that's it.

My mother always disapproved my taste for whiskey. She says we don’t have to get pissed on the first chance we have, it’s quite eloquent actually. At the end it’s all bullshit. Grandma drank a lot, Uncle Pete spends Thanksgiving stupidly drunk — because we don’t celebrate it in England — and my mom herself sometimes get wasted with the whiskey on the living room she claims has decorative purposes, but the volume of the bottles is every time mysteriously lower.

And thank God it's Taehyung who serves me, Yoongi’s too busy on his cell phone, a wrinkle in the middle of his forehead. Does he have a girlfriend? I wonder.

“Jungkook” I say, as a glass lands on my hand with ice this time, “Is it a friend's name or some drunk random guy?”

“Both” Tae gives me his bright smile “I'll introduce you to him when we find him.”

“No need” I spill de dose and wipe my lips with the back of my hand. The scotch comes down burning my throat. I squeeze my eyes so hard that when I open them I see a thousand black dots.

“Don’t be so full of yourself. If you're going to stay, then you'll have to meet our friends” he smirks. I see from the corner of my eyes Yoongi looking up from his cell phone, suddenly interested in the conversation.

“Well” I release the air forcefully “Since I'm doomed to stay right here forever...”

“It happens” Tae shrugs, but to me he seems perversely happy with the situation “Moreover, you’ve just arrived at the perfect timing and I believe it’s a message from the universe.”

“Is it?” I sigh, surrounding the edge of the glass with my fingers “And what exactly does it say?”

“Says I'm taking you to Jade's tonight.”

A cynical cough echoes through the bar, “Mmh?”

It's Yoongi. He goes on like that for a while, leaning on the counter and staring at Taehyung, that’s why I get scared when he turns to me and asks “Do you wanna go?” His startling hoarse voice makes me jump in my chair.

For a second I want to say that I’d go wherever he wants. But I swallow hard and try to answer “I—”

Before I can open my mouth to respond, Taehyung gives a comic laugh, making me even more confused. “It’s not like she's going to get involved in a gunfight or get fucked up at molly, will you Faye?” Tae turns at me, “But if you like this kind of thing it’s fine.”

When he finishes, Yoongi has calm features and seems indifferent to me. “Can’t. You’re taking those girls tonight” Yoongi calmly states. At that point in the discussion, Tae's jaw was screwed up again and Yoongi's eyes are angry, I can feel he's about to punch him, don’t ask me why. “There’s no space for her.”

Tae shrugs and looks at me with a sad smile on. “Sorry, Fay, maybe next week?” I smile and nod at him. Even though I have no idea of to what kind of orgy my cousin’s willing to take me, I’m glad I’ll be home organizing my stuff. Jade’s doesn’t really looks like the right place for me, if it’s in fact a place for Tae. We don’t work together.

Yoongi stares at me. There’s no trace of disapproval or anything else, he just stares. And I'm glad the whiskey gave me enough gas to stare back for a few minutes, before I feel my cheeks burn at his intensity.

Minutes later I decide that I should go. I get up right when Tae decides to light a cigarette, talking from a distance with a not too worried Yoongi, who’s busy cleaning mugs. I give him a kiss on his cheek and he immediately smiles at me. “You sure you don’t want me to take you home? It's dark outside” and he exhales the smoke out. Back to my uncle’s house, his room smells like cigarettes, so it's like I've seen him with a roll of cancer between his lips before.

“You don’t have to. Stay and fix the refrigerator. I think I‘m still able to walk all alone around here.”

Yoongi chuckles behind the counter, but when I look at his direction he promptly pretends that laugh didn’t left his mouth. It reminds me that I have to get out freaking fast. I have no money with me, but luckily I find a few pounds inside my coat. I walk up to the counter and shake the paper in the air. This makes Yoongi look up from the mugs, stare at the money and then at my face. “How much do I owe?” I ask.

With his body arched over the counter and his shirt unbuttoned on the collar, I can see more tattoos on his chest and a silver necklace with a crucifix dangling from his neck, also full of tattoos. I stare at one in particular, it’s a name; He perceive my nosy eyes and stands straight in annoyance. “Since you asked, I say it's on the house” Yoongi licks his lips, wiping a mug on his quick hands. “You know, so you keep the customer loyal.”

I would’ve accepted and wouldn’t pay the other times too, because of Tae, I bet he drinks for free in here. But something in those green eyes tells me that Yoongi is not the kind of guy I'd like to owe anything.

“I insist.”

“I insist.”

I tighten my jaw. He won’t accept the money. I shrug and turn my back toward the door. I patiently wrap my neck with the thick scarf, freezing with the cold that makes near the door. I don’t know if I can walk to my uncles' house at night with heeled boots and whiskey in my veins without falling into the snow at least once. I’m already leaving when Yoongi’s raspy voice makes me freeze for real: “Wait.”

I don’t know if it's the cold or the voice behind me that makes me shiver, probably the second option. I turn around. He's staring at me and Taehyung is staring at him. “I just decided to go to Jade's. If you really want to go, then I'll take ya. Should know your brother doesn’t have many friends out there.”

His emphasis on the word brother makes me wonder if he knows the lie or not. By chance, I had a pretty sarcastic answer to that, but something in his gaze tells me he wants a serious response, so I give up. Taehyung stares at me now, apparently as surprised as I am with that. “Is there a problem for you? I’ll meet you inside.”

My mouth is probably half open. I lock eyes with Yoongi for awhile, his full of lust and that dark bright that makes me feel a grip in my stomach. Why does he wanna take me? He doesn’t even know me. I don’t know what’s going on with me when I shrug and answer before turning my back, my heart pounding.

“Fine” the words slip out of my mouth before I can even think of anything else.
