🏘There is a hotel under these hills. Today it is called Montfort, previously known as Hotel Polana. People from former Czechoslovakia know this very much, as it was one of the most protected areas in the state. Why? . Vasil Bilak, communist leader from the 70's who invited Soviet army to occupy the state, loved walking in the forest and this location seemed as best location for a secret spot where no one except communist leaders was allowed to. Oh, weather is unpredictable these days... ⛰ Imagine weather last weekend of October. Imagine how that weather can look like at alpine meadows. If you imagined rainy, cold days with strong winds and spots of snow here and there, you were wrong. ☀️ At altitude of 2000 meters above sea level, we were walking in t-shirts, sweating. Afterwards we were lying in the grass for long minutes and enjoying the 20°C with no wind whatsoever... . When this happened, we were on a ridge of smaller hill. I started running and looking for best spot for taking photos like crazy, because I knew it would not last long. ⛰ ROOFTOP OF SLOVAKIA ⛰ . It was late September when we decided to hike up to peak called Volovec, and then see nearby smaller peak called Lucna, both on Polish-Slovak border. . We started quite early, because the hike is almost 20km, most of the time steep ascends and descends. Day was supposed to be sunny, and it was. And also quite warm, reaching up to 20°C at the ridge. But in the morning, 6am, we experienced chilling 2°C. That is how it is in the mountains. 🌄 M O R N I N G 🌄 . . We were playing a game during the night hike. The mission was to spot shiny pair of eyes staring at us. To my surprise, no one won. We didn't see/hear single larger animal on the way up, which was both disappointing and satisfying. . Another big chapter was weather forecast. It was supposed to be morning without any clouds.
