Queers for Economic Justice
Media coverage of LGBT Pride Month tends to focus on the celebrations rather than the activism (not to say a celebration can’t also be a mode of activism). 
Here are a few links to the work that queer activists have done on economic justice. Shout out to Mattilda B Sycamore who is the likely reason why I first started this draft post (from 2016).
What’s distressing is that many groups seem to be defunct, or on hiatus. Even FIERCE NYC (see previous post) hasn’t been active on social media since 2017.

The video above “Shelter Matters: QEJ & Queer Homelessness” highlights Queers for Economic Justice work in organizing and providing resources for queer and transgender homeless people, within the context of the current state of homelessness in NYC. 
Sadly, while Queers for Economic Justice closed up shop in 2012 due to lack of funding, they left a legacy of awesomeness: “We do this work because although poor queers have always been a part of both the gay rights and economic justice movements, they have been, and continue to be, largely invisible in both movements.”

Two major projects are branching out of work that started at QEJ: Queer Survival Economies, which will continue under Hollibaugh’s leadership at the Barnard Center for Research on Women, and Jay’s House, an initiative by Toole to create the first LGBTQ homeless shelter for adults in New York City.

Amber Hollibaugh of Queer Survival Economies and Margot Weiss in a 2015 article: 
The LGBT movement’s laser-focus on marriage equality propagates the myth of gay and lesbian affluence as political strategy, leaving aside any analysis of class or economic inequality or poverty—much less an analysis of capitalism. LGBT people are typically depicted as affluent consumers with high disposable incomes, yet this is hardly the norm. The majority of LGBT/Q people are poor or working class, female, and people of color, who struggle to get a job or hold onto one, to pay their rent and care for themselves and the people they love.1 Yet that reality remains unseen by mainstream LGBT activists and activists in allied movements, including the progressive and activist labor movements of which we are a part.

A 2010 survey of 165 lowincome LGBT/Q and gender non-conforming adults in New York found that the majority (70 percent) had been homeless at some point in their lives; data from 2011 show that 19 percent of trans people have been homeless at some point in their lives. Job, health, and housing discrimination and harassment all produce inflated rates of homelessness among queer and trans adults.13 Homelessness also leads to increased interaction with the criminal justice system. This increased criminalization means that LGBT/Q workers are disproportionately hurt by the mandatory background and credit checks required for many jobs.

From ‘The Undermining of Dead Mothers in Contemporary Visual Culture’:
In the original Star wars trilogy, it takes Luke Skywalker/Mark Hamill three films to acknowledge his dead mother (Return of the Jedi, 1983). In How to Train Your Dragon (2010), Hiccup’s mother isn’t mentioned until 47 minutes into the film, “and then quickly brushed aside with a joke about her breasts” (Berit Åström 2015). In Jem and the Holograms (2015), a big deal is made of the fact that the characters were orphans, and that their father had left behind a legacy. At no point does the film reference or even consider that the mother is also, presumably, is dead. Repeatedly, a message is sent to audiences that dead mothers don’t matter, whether through totally neglecting to mention her at all in the narrative, or by emphasising the importance of the father-child bond. As observed in This is a dead mom essay (Maddie Taterka, 2015), “dead parent stories where the parent dies young and while the child is still old enough to comprehend what’s going on seems […] to almost always be about dead dads”.

Depois de um ano olímpico, a Momentum se preparou para 2017 com um grande plano de reestruturação que envolve a contratação de lideranças femininas e novos profissionais, além da conquista de novos clientes
Após três anos de trabalho intenso de planejamento, criação e desenvolvimento para Nissan, Bradesco e LATAM, grandes marcas que patrocinaram e apoiaram os Jogos Olímpicos do Rio, a Momentum entra em uma nova fase de reestruturação com a chegada de novos clientes e novas profissionais para a equipe.
Após o sucesso do período olímpico, a agência não teve muito tempo para descansar. Novas contas foram conquistadas no decorrer do segundo semestre de 2016, como a da operadora SKY, do canal GNT, e a da ONG Gerando Falcões. Segundo Maria Laura Nicotero, CEO da Momentum, “as olimpíadas, sem dúvida, marcaram a consagração da nossa eficiência de planejamento, execução e entrega. Fechamos 2016 com muita comemoração e com um crescimento de aproximadamente 25% em relação a 2015. Resultados assim nos dão ainda mais motivação para continuarmos sempre buscando a inovação das ações de experiência total de marca. 2017 mal começou e, em breve, teremos mais novidades”, conta a executiva.
Novas forças e lideranças femininas
Outro reflexo da reestruturação da Momentum foi a contratação de novos profissionais para o escritório de São Paulo. No final do ano passado, novos profissionais entraram para atuar em diversas áreas da agência e, para os cargos de direção, foram chamadas as profissionais Lissandra Duarte (diretora de geral de atendimento) e Dani Ferreira (diretora de produção). Mais recentemente, para completar o time de novas lideranças femininas, a agência contratou a criativa Fernanda Chaccur, que assume a função de Executive Creative Director.
Novidade na Criação
Formada em Comunicação Social pelas Faculdades Integradas Alcântara Machado, Fernanda está há 21 anos na área de criação. Possui experiência como redatora na extinta CP Comunicação, Eugênio e Dialog (na época, Pubicis Group), onde se aperfeiçoou em Brand Experience; e como diretora de criação na Draft/Lowe, Taterka e, por último, na Ponto de Criação, onde desenvolveu plataformas promocionais para o Banco Santander.
Fernanda já trabalhou para importantes marcas, como Renault, Nissan, Nestlé, Johnson’s e Unilever, sendo responsável por campanhas do grupo para toda América Latina e vencedora do prêmio Ampro – Associação de Marketing Promocional de melhor campanha de construção de marca para Rexona Teens. Também esteve à frente de trabalhos para McDonald’s e Natura que foram veiculados tanto no Brasil quanto na América Latina. “Estar à frente da criação da Momentum será, além de um desafio, um passo importante para a minha carreira. Quero contribuir com novas ideias que conectem consumidores e marcas, mantendo sempre a parceria com as áreas de produção e planejamento”, diz Fernanda.
De acordo com Maria Laura Nicotero, CEO da Momentum, “a Fernanda é uma profissional que traz a criatividade sempre alinhada com a estratégia e necessidade comercial, tudo isso com uma qualidade estética única. A experiência dela a credencia a realizar uma revolução criativa na agência, melhorando ainda mais a excelência dos trabalhos e dos nossos resultados”.
A executiva ainda complementa que “em um momento em que precisamos de mais mulheres líderes nesse mercado, foi fundamental para a Momentum a escolha de todas essas profissionais. O fato de serem mulheres com trajetórias profissionais bem sucedidas foi importante, mas as qualidades que elas reúnem, como assertividade, persuasão, flexibilidade, compreensão, entre outras, também foram essenciais para nos inspirar e nos motivar fortemente a apostar nesse novo modelo de gestão”, explica Maria Laura.
