Bucket List -- Opt. Task #17

Return to college for broadcast journalism. (Haisley is currently a investigative journalist, & she thinks it's time to further her career by closing that chapter to move onto bigger things.)

Have at least one WWE tryout match. (Since her uncle is Ric Flair, she's familiar with the business. She's actually had a couple of training sessions, but sees it as just a little side hobby when she visits her uncle.)

Get married. (What girl doesn't want to marry her soulmate? For now, she's mingling to see if she can spark chemistry with someone.)

Become a mother. (Haisley lost her parents when she was just eight years old, so she really didn't get to have a relationship with her parents as she got older. With that history, she would eventually like to have a child to hold as her own.)

Be more social. (With the job that she has, it's extremely hard for her to have a physical social life instead of just a 90% online social life.)

Go to Tokyo Disney Sea. (Haisley is huge The Little Mermaid fan, so visiting here would simply be life fulfilling, since the park is designed as Atlantica.)

Travel the world. (This is something that Haisley put on her childhood bucket list, and always set her mind to do. So far, she's seen most of the world, but she yearns to see more of it.)

Learn to ice skate. (It's kind of an embarrassing goal. Haisley has tried multiple times to simply skate and has failed at every single one since she's kind of clumsy anyways.)

Be on Jerry Springer. (Again, one of her teenage bucket list goals. Whether it being in the audience or actually starring on the show, because she has been a fan ever since she could remember.)

Enjoy life to the fullest. (Something that is most important to her. Stop stressing so much. Defeat the illness of depression that she often suffers from. Always be happy in life and never take a single day for granted.)

Friends Forever

5 AM. Nicola was up before her alarm went off. Against her better judgement she shut off her alarm even though part of her was saying to reset it. She was always up,sometimes even before the sun came up. She threw the covers back and grabbed her running clothes from the stand next to the bed. She sighed as she changed from her pajamas and into her running gear. Looking at herself in the mirror she closed her hazel eyes for a brief moment before she pulled her hair into a ponytail. She wanted to get a short run in and it had been a few days since she had managed to get one in. Sitting on the edge of the bed she slipped her running shoes on and the went down the stairs as quietly as she could. She liked to have a clear mind in order to start her day off right. Before during her short run around the block she sat out her coffee cup and started the coffee pot. She put her headphones into her ears and headed out the door.

Even if it was for a few minutes the run gave her a little break from the chaos that life could sometimes be. She looked down at her watch and headed back home. She smiled softly to herself as she walked back in the house. She took her headphones out and laid them on the counter. She poured herself her coffee. Leaving it sit on the counter to cool she thought for a few minutes. Everything was different. Ever since losing Sarah Nicola has closed herself off quite a bit. Hearing her phone brought her out of her thoughts. Who could be calling her this early? Answering her phone she nearly dropped it when she heard a familiar voice, one that she hadn’t heard in years. “Miss me princess?” Nicola laughed. “Brady….you don’t call, you don’t write. Makes your best friend wonder if you ever really gave a damn.” “I was in a war, Princess.” “Well you still could have called when you got a chance to…I thought you were dead.” Brady laughed. “Nothing could tear us apart, you know that. Listen can you meet me?”

Nicola ran her fingers through her hair. “Of course. Do you remember the way to get to the roof of the gallery?” Brady laughed. “Of course I do. How could I forget how to get to the one place that meant so much to the both of us?” Nicola smiled softly. “Well Sargent meet me there in 15.” “Make it 10.” “Last one there owes the other a drink.” “You’re on Princess.” Nicola shook her head. “I hate it when you call me that.” “No you don’t.” “Brady…..happy Veterans Day.” He didn’t say anything for a moment. “You don’t have to say that Nicole.” Nicola rolled her eyes. She hated to be called Nicole but be was the only one that could get away with it. “Yes I do. You once told me that it doesn’t matter what happened in the past. What matter is what you decide to do from this moment forward. You said that to me when I felt like I was down a hole so dark that I’d never get out of. It is because of that kick in the ass that you gave me that I started to give a damn. You said that Sarah wouldn’t want me to not fight like hell to be a good person, to not take revenge.” Brady sighed.

“I couldn’t let you stay down. I had to pull a lot of strings to come see you that day. I never saw you like that before and that scared me more than anything that I saw. I should have been there for you.” Nicola sighed. “To be fair I didn’t let anyone get close not even Ryan. You said that I needed to. I turned our spot into something. I’ll see you in a little bit.” She hung up and quickly changed and headed to the gallery. Brady was the one person that could really talk sense into her and she had always been grateful. She had turned their secret place into a bar that she wanted to open and she wanted him to run it for her. She smiled softly as she remembered their secret way of sneaking in.

Once inside she walked up the staircase and waited. Hearing the door open behind her, she slowly turned. A soft smile came across her face. “Welcome home solider.” She said simply. He gave her a weird look. “Well I would have said it a hell of a lot sooner if someone would have kept in contact like they promised they would.” He laughed. “What have you done to this place?” She smiled. “Well after Sarah died I would come here and drink. I knew that it was a place that I could hide and no one would find me….not even Ryan. I would come up here and wish that everything was drink and then I remembered when we would come up here and confess a lot of things. Soooo I decided that a bar might be a good idea. It needs to be finished and it’s my way of saying thank you for everything….for your service….for being a friend. I named the bar Confess but if you want to change it….you can.” He looked at her. “I want to know how you’re doing if I’m really honest.”

She sighed. “Well I do have good days and bad days. But the good outweighed the bad. I have a daughter named Waverly and she is the sweetest little girl who is more like me than Sarah was. Sarah took more so after Ryan. Waverly has his eyes and that stare he used to do.” She laughed. “Are you and Ryan together?” Nicola shook her head. “No. It’s better for both of us if we’re not. We co parent and he doesn’t see Waverly much. I want to keep her safe as much as I can. I can’t have a repeat of what happened with Sarah. I can’t take it.” “I’ll help in whatever way I can.” “Right now Sargent why don’t we get a drink and catch up.” “Sounds like the best offer I’ve had all day.”

Someone in Elina’s family who was a veteran? There were plenty in the extended family that was the Rockefeller’s. But there was no one immediate and close to Elina that she held in the highest regard. So why was this holiday even important to an heiress like Elina? After all, when most observed the socialite, the last thing they would have to believe is that she would have an ounce of genuine sincerity towards someone who served for their country. However, despite what the average person would criticize, this day did mean something to the young woman. And the reason that it did came about in a rather unique and unexpected way. 

Ellie had always been born with a silver spoon, and needless to say, she was offered an enormous amount of opportunities that an average person would not. Yet, to every advantage, there was a disadvantage. For Elina, it was sometimes not having a figure life that could teach her humility. Being born into a name like Rockefeller came with an expectation for greatness. Most of her family were CEOs, politicians, or in some way changing the world. That high-up position put most members on a pedestal, including Elina. She had been expected to think highly of herself to achieve amplitude in society so that she could equally stand out like the rest of her family. On top of being a Rockefeller, she was Lauder too. For that reason, the pressure and weight felt heavier for Elina. So much so that when she was younger, Ellie didn’t think she could handle the pressure. She felt so lost, and yet, the Rockefeller heiress couldn't talk to her own family. Elina felt like she had to be perfect. There wasn't any room for less than excellence in a family as grand as Elina's.

However, when Elina was sixteen, she was asked to participate in a commemoration event for Veteran’s Day at the Rockefeller Center at Dartmouth. It wasn’t unusual for her family to attend these events. Especially, when so many family members served in the military. Though as previously mentioned, Elina had not been close with those relatives. It wasn’t until she met an army vet, Brad Carney, on the day of the event that changed her outlook on not just the holiday but the kind of impact she wanted to make later in life. Brad did not judge the heiress or think ill of her simply because she was born into a silver-spoon status. That day of the event, he only saw a lonely girl who didn’t know how to face her personal war. He offered his insight from his days of service. It became a tool of enlightenment for a young girl who didn’t know how to confront her fears. Their fears may have seemed so different from each other. Yet retrospectively, they were very similar. Also, it was rare that anyone asked how Elina was feeling. The fact that he not only shared something personal with someone as youthful and naive as Ellie as was, taught Elina an important life lesson and value that day. She then carried that lesson and value with her as she made her way in life. 

Now, every year Elina continues to co-host commemoration events at the Rockefeller Center at Dartmouth. Brad Carney also assists in leading the discussions on important social topics that regard the military. Recently, Ellie was immensely proud to help co-sponsor their panel about diversity and inclusion in the military. It was a subject that was very meaningful to Brad and opened Elina's eyes even further. He has become a mentor and quiet influence on Ellie's life, even if most do not know who he is. To El, he was a hero. Not just on the battlefront, but for aiding a little girl who was scared to face the world. Regardless of what she was born into, Brad gave her a chance which is what all veterans do when they lay their life down for strangers. Brad showed Elina what it meant to have courage and humility. For that, she would always be grateful.

Aizu Digital Museum This is a website about the Aizu War (especially about the Byakkotai). There are a lot of images, etc., and I think that it is a very easy-to-understand HP.

Cut through history There are person introductions, Japanese history quizzes and chats. By the way, I didn't seem to be able to do the quiz at all... I have to study a little longer... Pathetic... (^^;;)

Shinsengumi Encyclopedia If you are a fan of Hijikata-san, you should definitely check it out. It's a tremendous amount of information. Even if you are not a fan of Hijikata-san, if you have even the slightest interest in the Shinsengumi, please take a look. However, it's very wide so don't get lost (laughs)

Mangetsudo I have been writing about the Shinsengumi since the days of the Roshitai. I think that it is quite rare that it is written from the time of the roshi corps. In addition, there are various corners.

Hashimoto's Home Page This website is made by Aizu. At the end of the Edo period, the person who was active in Aizu is written.

Wolves of Mibu Introducing the Shinsengumi. There is also an introduction to historical sites. Historical sites are introduced not only in Tokyo and Kyoto, but also in Hokkaido, Wakayama, and Osaka.

Hajime Saito 1 to 5 There is a lot written about Hajime Saito. It is worth seeing that the chronology, materials, and places related to Hajime Saito are gathered together.

One Thousand and One Nights There are essays on Bakumatsu, domain maps, and a chronological table of traction. Walking around Ome introduces temples and other places in Ome City with photos. Also, there are quite a lot of links related to the Bakumatsu period.

"Shinsengumi ~Yoake Mae~" There is not much content yet, but I think that the number one, Shinsengumi, is written on the HP. (Somehow, it's not explained...) The name of the person who made it is very nice.

Room of Historical Novels It introduces the works of Michiko Nagai, Ryotaro Shiba, and Jugo Kuroiwa. For once, the center seems to be Michiko Nagai. This is the HP I found while riding the waves. The work is introduced very carefully.

Historic Sites in Kyoto This is a website made by a person who lives in Kyoto, and describes the stone monuments found here and there in Kyoto. It is recommended for those who want to go but cannot go to Kyoto easily. With photos, the explanation is also polite, so please take a look at it once. From the chronological table, you can jump to the page that explains it.

Hokushin Castle This page mainly introduces castles in Tohoku. It also describes the Hakodate War. I think it's a very interesting HP because it introduces regardless of whether it's famous or not. (Hello, it seems that they have started introducing other areas besides Tohoku.)

TASK 017 - IMPORTANT NPCs

Jackson Cole - Harrison’s father, and mentor. Business man, and sensible money maker, Harrison wanted nothing to do with the business but wanted to be everything like his father. While Jackson was wealthy and well off, he never lost sight of the things that are supposed to mean the most. Like family.

Genevieve Cole - Harrison’s mother, best friend, confidant. A lot of people would like to argue that Harrison lost his want to be close to anyone when he lost his mother. And while the love of his father was great, it had nothing on the love he had for his “Ma”.

Adelaide Cole - Harrison’s Gran, and the last living relative he’s got. His Gran now runs the empire his father left him, and tries despite Harrison’s aversion, to care for her grandson. She continues to encourage the seed his father planted that Harrison should be his own person while hoping he’ll settle down to bless her with great grandchildren to carry on the Cole name.

Unfortunately, I don't have a trash bag full of dollar bills lying around to throw off a roof. Instead, I opted to make these dollar bill roses to hand out around the city. 

I ended up tackling one of my other fears, which is making eye contact with strangers. Normally, I just look at my feet or bury my nose in a book when I walk, but today, I forced myself to make eye contact with strangers, hold it, and smile. If they smiled back, I thanked them, and handed them a dollar rose. 

It was surprisingly easy to get people to smile back. I think it's hard to initiate the smiling, but when someone smiles at you, it's a pretty natural reaction to smile back. Even blind people who have never seen a smile or been taught how to smile, smile when they are happy; it must be a human function engrained in us. 

It's difficult to muster the courage to be the first person at anything. As humans, we are most afraid of the unknown, and that makes us stick within certain boundaries that we know we can handle.  We have volition, but if we consistently limit ourselves from pursuing certain avenues out of fear, we deprive ourselves of all the possibilities. Every time I tell myself I can't do something, I now also ask myself if I've ever done it before and failed. The answer is almost always no; I just have it in my brain that I can't do a lot of things, even though there's no evidence to back it up.

Consistently scaring the shit out of myself by doing the things that I never imagined I could do, and actually succeeding at all of them has made me realize that all the doubts about yourself that keep you from doing things you want to do, are just that, doubts. They aren't evidence that you shouldn't attempt something. Most of the time, those doubts are keeping you from doing things you should do. It's okay to feel doubt, it's not okay to let those doubts keep you from doing something you really want. You owe it to yourself to at least try it out. 

I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of these new experiences, especially because I know just how easily I could've let them all slip through my fingers if I chose to end it all. Life is worth living, but it's up to you to make it that way.

Best Day Project Task #17: Drop dollar bills off of a roof.

Who has never had some sort of fantasy about money falling from the sky?
