Learn About the Process of Installing a Bushing
In power transmission bushings like the taper bush is an indispensable component, allowing for a flexible drive system. They make us do modifications quickly and efficiently. Splined or keyless shafts are included in few specialty bushings.
Proper installation of a bushing can affect all other components within the drive whether by regular maintenance or the replacement of its companion item. Excessive vibrations, increased run-out, or breakage of the mating part can be caused by incorrect installation, inevitably damaging components and the shaft it engages.
How to prepare your bushing
It’s necessary to clean all involved parts correctly: OD, the shaft, the bushing bore, as well as the component bore (that of your sprocket or sheave). Bushings work through friction and force as above stated, so on any of these surfaces, foreign matter will inhibit the ability to work correctly. Remove all oil, dust, grease, dirt, and paint.
How to install your bushing
For proper installation you need to follow below steps:
Into the component, the hub inserts the bushing like taper lock bush and to the counterpart’s threaded ones align the bushing’s non-threaded holes. During removal, the threaded holes on the bushing will be utilized. By two ways QD bushings can be mounted, standard or reverse mount.
Through the bushing’s non-threaded hole insert the bolts then by hand thread into your counterpart, leaving the assembly loose.
Mount assembly as desired and install the key onto the shaft. To keep it in place, over the key tighten the set screw once final drive alignments are completed.
Until specific torque values are reached alternate tightening your bolts gradually. The bushing seat correctly and squarely by this progressive tightening.
The below steps are for taper-lock bushings only:
Drive the bushing into the hub using a rubber mallet and block on bushings and larger. Until the torque on the screws is the same before and after hammering it is important to switch between tightening the screws and hammering the bushing.
To exclude contaminants and reduce corrosion fills all unoccupied holes with grease. This is quite a preventative measure rather than a performance-related one used by taper lock bush manufacturer.
