Another one of these, but I really wish I understood how Taobao worked. I've tried looking at guides, the website won't even let me search/click on something before bringing me to an untranslateable page, and I have no idea where to even begin to look for someone to help me buy through lol. I miss out on so much stuff because I find the whole thing too complex for my apparently tiny brain to comprehend which is such a pity.

This Thanksgiving, I'm thankful that I have a lolita platform big enough to reach many people when I post a reminder that DevilInspired is not a good place to shop from.
#lolita fashion#devilinspired#at least clobba will tell you the brand of the items#if you don't want to use taobao at least shop them instead

You guys do know that those posts that go like "I just found out about this awesome lamp that unfolds into a dragon! Check this out!" or "I wish I had this adorable cat-shaped beanbag... OMG I FOUND THE LINK!!" are ads by dropshippers, right? You do know that's not a regular user organically sharing a neat find but a seller trying to promote their product, right? You do know they're mass-produced Chinese products, likely bought and resold at a markup from Taobao shops, with inconsistent quality and opaque manufacturing practices, and not some small business artist's craft? Right? If you just don't care, that's another thing, but sometimes I see people acting like they genuinely believe the "hey guys I just found cool thing :)" veneer on those posts. Just want you to know what you're getting yourself into.
#i do not advise buying from dropshippers i kind of hate letting them win#even with the problems with cheap chinese junk aside... if you are really into that stuff it's more economical to learn to buy direct#taobao is hard to shop on for westerners but you can save a lot and be more discerning about where it's coming from#rather than being shrouded by layers of dropshipping mystery#because there ARE genuine small businesses on taobao that are just some lady making trinkets in her home. and actually good products#I obviously don't live in China nor can I read Chinese but if anyone cares you can send me an ask and I can explain how I buy from TB

also i LOVE posting outfit pics cause i have a thrift shopping problem!!!!!
#qkmlh#replies#hehe no the leather jacket and boots on the left came out the goodwill bins and were $2.60/lb#most expensive thing there is the leather jacket on the right.... which was $15 cause i got it on purple tag day at goodwill (plus tax tho.#so it was marked $30 but was half off!!#pink skirt is from urban.... but like u know when they're about to purge last season's stuff (which means it gets#'donated' to other countries if it doesn't sell.... and those countries are all having issues getting rid of our crap)#and put it half off clearance so it was $2.50 lol#pants are hand me downs from my mom and the corset top is from rainbow (same thing as urban) when they do clearance things bogo#so it was $5!!!!#i don't remember where the top on the left or the flower shoes came from tho#(i think they may have been from when i had a taobao shopping service affiliate lol... but i stopped doing that cause like#i feel really bad buying plastic unless it's about to be dumped)

Hi! Do you know if are there any hanfu clothing stores outside of mainland China (ex: Taiwan)?
Hi, thanks for the question, and sorry for taking ages to reply!
I have a rec list of non-Taobao online hanfu stores here, most of which are based outside of mainland China.
In addition, my Q&A Masterpost has a “Buying Hanfu & Hanfu Accessories” section that contains replies to previously asked questions on where to buy hanfu outside of mainland China, including in: Hong Kong, Singapore, and the U.S.
The above-mentioned stores are pretty much all online, though. If you’re looking for physical (in-person) stores, I don’t have as much information.
For Taiwan specifically, Tumblr user @miich mentioned here that they offer a hanfu rental service in Taiwan. Do any followers know of physical hanfu stores in Taiwan and other places outside of mainland China? If so, please share and I can compile a list in this post.
Hope this helps!

Introducing 42Lolita
Have you heard of 42Lolita? 42Lolita is the official Lolita shop of 42agent. I’ve been a loyal customer of 42agent since 2013 (back in their Taobaoring days!). You may have seen my blog posts about Taobao shopping (here: post 1, post 2, and post 3). Lots of great Lolita indie brands are on Taobao, and 42Lolita makes it even easier to snag cute clothes and accessories. If you’d like to shop there,…

How to use Taobao: Do you get told to log in? Make an account using a tutorial online.
Does it immediately get locked? You have to make an Alipay account and give them your information to verify you. You need to give them an ID and a bank card. Then you can follow the steps to unlock your account depending on the warning it gives you. (Google translate is good enough to figure out which one is the reason behind the lock out.)
There's no way around that and if you can't or aren't comfortable with that then get the link from someone else and use Superbuy/Spreenow/42agent or NewCloverSinging.
Taobao has an image search function. See something on m00nlight or somewhere else and want to know who made it? Toss that shit in the search bar and it should try to find similar item listings.
You can also have shit just sent to a warehouse to avoid having to pay bonkers shipping every single time an item is finished. Usually it's a couple bucks within China.
Most items have their wait times and order periods posted somewhere on the images of the order page. 2-4 months is common for outfits. Some makers are even 6 month waits. You will pay a deposit that is also listed on the page. Check back after the wait period is up. There may be a new listing with the item you ordered called Final or Tail when translated. That is how you pay the remainder of your item and it will be shipped once payment is confirmed.
This is as much as I can say on the matter. I've tried too many times to help some people and I don't know how much more information I can give someone. Your problem can be copy pasted into Google and usually someone on Reddit has figured it out. Peace.
