Submerged Forest on Tanybwlch beach, Penparcau, Aberystwyth. Yes I know, there’s not much to look at! However, this peaty layer, with its odd knuckles of 4000 year old tree trunk, is all that remains of the “drowned forest” that would have been here millennia ago. Eminent local Natural Historian, Arthur Chater, noted that it had first been seen in 1974, following a severe storm which had eroded the material covering it. Research has not produced any photos from the 1974 sighting, so these shots, taken in January 2017, will be the start of recording on this site.
I will be keeping an eye on it, now we know it is here, and making sure to visit after any more violent storms. Watch this space...

RD21763. MERDDIN EMRYS arriving at Harbour Stn. by Ron Fisher
Via Flickr:
RD21763. After a covid enforced absence, I was itching to get back to Porthmadog and see the Ffestiniog Railway once again. So I grabbed an opportunity at the end of May 2021 and was rewarded with the sight of Double Fairlie 0-4-4-0T MERDDIN EMRYS steaming across The Cob towards Porthmadog Harbour Station soon after our arrival. It was working a return ‘Woodland Wanderer’ service from Tanybwlch. Saturday, 29th May, 2021. Copyright © Ron Fisher 2021.

RD21769. DAVID LLOYD GEORGE arriving at Harbour Stn. by Ron Fisher
Via Flickr:
RD21764. About an hour later steam was again seen approaching across The Cob and the FR’s other working Double Fairlie, DAVID LLOYD GEORGE, also came into view. They were both working return ‘Woodland Wanderer’ services from Tanybwlch. Saturday, 29th May, 2021. Copyright © Ron Fisher 2021.
