(gif not mine!)
You sat in the RV on the way to a location unknown as per usual. Though knowing it was Alex’s turn to pick the location was quite nerve-wracking. He hadn’t let you in on anything, not even the slightest detail. The one thing you did know, was that he was very excited about it, and that scared you even more. Nothing about this seemed normal, and you were dying to know where he was taking you.
You looked at him and sighed. “Al-” you started. “Nope, no, I’m not saying a thing,” he interrupted you, knowing exactly what you were going to ask him. You huffed and crossed your arms. “You don’t even know what I was gonna say,” you said to him and it was his turn to sigh. “Seriously? You’ve asked only about 8 million times in the last 31 hours,” he scoffed. Chelsea, tanner, and Dakota chuckled. “I'm with her on this, I want a hint of some sort,” Chelsea said and looked at Alex with a raised brow. “Not until later,” Alex stuck to his plan. “You’re no fun,” you whined and poked his arm. “I’m fun, I have a great spot for you guys to stop at while I tell everyone about the location,” he informed you and tossed an arm over your shoulder.
It wasn’t long before you pulled up to the place and got out of the RV. “I’m small enough compared to you giants. What is this place?” you questioned and looked at your boyfriend like he was crazy. Everyone laughed and tanner ruffled your hair, you swatted his hand away. “You’ll have fun I promise,” Alex said and kissed the top of your head.
“Oh hush, I know I will. I’m with these two fools, and Chelsea of course,” you said and nudged her side and she laughed softly. Tanner and Dakota looked at you in mock offense. “Fools?” they questioned simultaneously. “Fools,” you confirmed with a large grin.
“Oh, you’re gonna get it,” Dakota said. You noticed that he was about to run and so of course you sprinted away from him. You could hear him running after you and you laughed breathlessly. About halfway across the parking lot he caught you and picked you up and spun you around until you begged him to stop. You let out a yelp and laughed as he set you down, trying to gain your balance back. “I still think you’re a fool,” you whispered and he looked at you with a look as if saying ‘what did you say?’. “I said nothing,” you said and shrugged before quickly walking back to the group.
“Alright, I’ll see you guys in a bit, go have fun on big objects,” he gestured to what was in front of him and behind you. You chuckled before kissing his cheek. “Love you, Alex,” you said while watching him walk away.
“Shall we?” you asked and pointed to the attraction. “We shall,” Tanner answered and you chuckled before linking arms with Chelsea and making your way back across the parking lot.
As you walked across the lot you saw a large chair and to your surprise a mailbox. “Imagine the packages you could get in there!” Chelsea said and you laughed. “For some reason, I feel the need to climb that chair despite my crippling fear of heights,” you pointed out and directed the camera toward the chair. “I’d pay to see that,” Tanner laughed and so did you. “You just want to see me fall off of it,” you jabbed back and he looked at you with a hurt expression. “Is that what you think?” he asked in surprise. “That’s just what I know,” you smiled brightly at him. He grinned at you, “Alright, alright, you know me too well,” he said. “I know,” you said and they laughed.
You walked further in and came across a giant pencil. “Look at the pencil!” Tanner exclaimed and you chuckled. “Tanner we finally found something that is taller than you!” you proclaimed excitedly. He tossed a glare your way while Chelsea and Dakota laughed. Chelsea jumped to try and touch the eraser and when she couldn’t you decided to try. “Ok, wait! I need to try!” you said and set your camera down. You stood under the pencil and did a couple of test hops before you jumped as high as you could. Ultimately not reaching your goal. “Damn it,” you huffed and they all shook their heads. “Sorry, I guess you’re just too small,” Dakota teased you and you glared at him. “Don’t worry I couldn’t do it either,” Chels reminded you and wrapped an arm around your shoulder.
“Oh my gosh, it’s a big ass bird cage!” you enthusiastically pointed at it before running toward it. “It has a swing!” you said excitedly and sat down on the seat before swinging yourself back and forth. “She is so easily entertained, I don’t understand honestly,” Tanner shook his head. “Right, I mean, it’s just a swing,” Dakota said. “I think it’s cute,” Chelsea said as she watched you happily swing in the cage.
“Alright, move, we want to swing too,” Dakota said and you got off of the swing so they could sit down. Chelsea hopped on the side of it and you smiled. “This is like, the cutest thing we’ve ever done,” Dakota stated and you chuckled a bit. “Not gonna lie here, you guys do look adorable right now,” you said and smiled at them. “I need pictures!” you exclaimed before holding your phone with one hand and taking a few pictures of them. “I need a picture with everyone,” you said. They all sighed jokingly. “C’mon, you know you love me,” you joked and they all agreed.
Tanner sat on the swing and you hopped on behind him. You had a foot on either side of him as you held on so you wouldn’t fall. You both smiled widely as Chelsea took the picture. Next up, it was you and Dakota. It was an awkward and hard-to-hold pose but you made it work. You were determined to be taller than him and so you sat on your knees on the swing right next to him. He had his arm around your waist to steady you as you rested your head atop his. Your smiles were wide as you tried not to laugh and fall off. He helped you down and next it was you and Chelsea. Seeing as you never wanted a normal pose you and Chelsea both stood on the swing. “We better get this before we both fall off,” she joked and you laughed loudly and smiled over at her. And later on, you found that that was the picture. You smiling over at her while she smiled at the camera. It was one of your favorite pictures you had with her.
Dakota was the last one on the swing, and Chelsea took the opportunity to close the cage door. “I’ve always just wanted to-” she spoke as she shut the door on him. And you all laughed. “He makes a great bird,” Chelsea joked and you laughed loudly. “A beautiful bird,” you agreed teasingly.
“Now, to ascend the giant mailbox!” you declared and they chuckled. You all made your way up to the top and you smiled at the view from up there.
“What do you think Alex is talking about right now?” Dakota wondered aloud. “Probably the usual,” you shrugged. “Yeah, probably something depressing and scary,” Tanner added and you softly laughed. “It has to be that,” you pointed over at him and smiled. “Ok, I think the adrenaline of climbing a giant mailbox has worn off. I’m literally about to panic. Can we get down now?” you questioned and they all nodded. “Right, c’mon let’s get you back onto the ground,” Tanner said and took your hand to guide you back down.
As you walked back down to the parking lot to meet up with your boyfriend you smiled at the thought of him being so excited.
You saw him by the RV and took off in a light sprint. He chuckled at you and opened his arms for you. You crashed into him and he huffed at the impact, laughing breathlessly as he kept you both from falling over. “Hey, babe,” he said and he heard your muffled hello against his neck. You pulled back and smiled up at him. “Did you have fun?” he asked, and you nodded your head. “Yeah, I did. Got lots of good pictures too,” you told him giddily and he smiled at how happy you looked. He leaned down and pressed a kiss on your forehead. “Good, I’m glad,” he said and hugged you close again.
The others joined you and you smiled brightly at them, “ready guys?” you asked and they all nodded before following you into the RV. You sat next to Alex on the couch and Chelsea sat down next to you. Alex tossed his arm around your shoulder to fit you snuggly against his side, and to make more room for Chelsea.
It was a few minutes into the journey when everyone turned their cameras back on. “Alex is in control!” Dakota exclaimed and you smiled up at him. “You have a little pep in your step today,” Chelsea teasingly pointed out and you chuckled. “We’re all excited. It’s not just me,” Alex said and you laughed. “Everyone’s excited about this,” he added and you shook your head. “What?” Tanner asked, “Honestly, like you couldn’t actually believe that,” you joked and looked at him.
“Let’s do a poll. Tanner, how do you feel about Alex picking?” Dakota asked. “Not very comfortable in the slightest,” He states and you nod in agreement. “That’s only one out of the four. Dakota?” he asked his friend. “I’m nervous as hell,” he expressed and you smiled. “And Chelsea?” Alex asked. “You freak me out a little bit, man,” Chelsea answered and you chuckled. “Ok, y/n?” he questioned you. “Honestly, you’re being a little too excited for me to be excited about this,” you told him, “your excitement scares me,” you said and he chuckled.
“You keep smiling like something is up,” Chelsea stated. Alex shrugged his shoulders and you rolled your eyes. “Oh no,” you mumbled and he smiled down at you. “I’m just gonna break it to you guys right now. For my haunted location, we will be doing solos the entire night, with no flashlights,” he broke the news and your jaw dropped a bit.  “What is wrong with you?” you question in exasperation. Everyone groaned in protest, “That’s the worst idea ever,” Tanner complained.
“I just don’t know Alex, about your decisions, your ideas,” Chelsea said to him and you chuckled. “I’m with Chelsea here, the things you do for your locations can be questionable,” you said and everyone snickered.
“We are in the middle of nowhere, like, where the hell are you taking us?” Dakota queried.
“We have been sitting in this RV for a very long time now, and I do have something planned for us. Right now we are on our way to an abandoned grain silo that has been renovated into a rock-climbing facility,” Alex explained his plan for you all. “How tall is this?” Tanner asked.
“The tallest one is about 65 feet,” Alex said and your eyes widened. “This sounds pretty intimidating,” Dakota said and you nodded your head. “Very intimidating, I hate heights,” you told him and gave him a tight-lipped smile. “I’m sorry babe, but there is a competition involved. Whoever gets up the highest will win this competition and it may or may not tip the odds in your favor for the overnight,” Alex informed you. “Damn it, you know how competitive I am,” you shook your head. He squeezed you tightly and kissed your head.
“So, like, whoever wins, whoever gets the highest won’t have to do a solo?” Dakota asked hopefully. “No, no, no, no. That’s funny. That’s really funny,” Alex said and you lightly hit his chest. “That would be a great reward for me,” Dakota spoke up again. “What is it?” you asked Alex. “Let’s just say, you are going to want to try and get to the top. You wanna win, trust me,” he told you. “I definitely don’t trust you but ok,” you countered.
“I don’t know what’s scarier. Climbing this high in an abandoned silo, or not winning the contest,” Dakota said.
You put your cameras down and you sighed. You were nervous about climbing so high. You hated heights and Alex knew this about you, but he also knew how competitive you were and obviously hoped that would outweigh your fear. Surprise, surprise: it didn’t.
You didn’t want to do this, and honestly, you didn’t trust Alex’s little advantage. You knew him a bit too well, to know that it was something good.
He looked down at you and noticed your brow begin furrowed. He lifted his hand and let his thumb smooth out the crease between your eyebrows. Your eyes darted up to look at him when you felt his touch. “What’s up babe, you ok?” he asked and you instinctively leaned closer to him. “I just really hate heights,” you said and rested your head on his shoulder. “You’ll be ok babe, I won’t let anything happen ok, and if you feel like you need to come back down that’s fine, you know no one will be upset with you,” he explained to you and stroked your hair to soothe you. “I know, I just- I hate losing too,” you said and he laughed softly. “I know babe, maybe Dakota will give up before you,” Alex joked and it was your turn to laugh quietly.
“I heard that,” Dakota said and you laughed again. “Sorry, Dak,” you said and he rolled his eyes. You hid your face in Alex’s shoulder as you laughed quietly and he smiled down at you. “ I love you (y/n),” Alex spoke softly. “I love you too Alex,” you said and leaned up to kiss him softly.
The rest of the drive was short, and as you came to a stop you looked outside and sighed. “Oh shit,” you mumbled to yourself knowing that your fear would eventually kick in.

Just Say Yes --A Destination Fear One Shot (Dakota Laden/Reader)
A/N: Fic can also be found here on AO3. Inspiration from the proposal that happened at NJ Paraunity Expo.
The crew and you were on the road again after being in Savannah, Georgia investigating the Old Candler Hospital. It had been a successful investigation with the best evidence captured by Tanner and Chelsea. The two caught a picture of an apparition hanging from the Hanging Tree, also known as the Candler Oak. As the road trip continued, you all tried to recuperate as well as you, Chelsea, Tanner, and Alex tried to figure out where Dakota was taking you next.
Hours pass before Dakota gave a hint, “Rather than going the daring, over-the-top type of pit stop, I decided to go a bit more historical.”
You turn your head to give him a puzzled look as you were already sitting next to him with his arm around your shoulders while Tanner, Alex, and Chelsea give him an inquisitive look from across the RV. Chelsea was already facing him while Tanner and Alex had to turn their heads as well.
“Aren’t there historical parts of every state?” you question.
“Yeah, that isn’t much of a hint, dude,” Alex complains.
“Well, yes, there are historical parts in every state. Where we’re going though isn’t a state,” Dakota proclaims.
It all seemed to click for you and the rest of the crew with that hint as you all almost shout out in unison "We’re going to Washington D.C.?!”
Dakota chuckles before he responds with “Yes we are.”
“Any specifics on where in DC?” Tanner asks.
“So, there is a place called the Tidal Basin. Around it is many monuments to stop by, plus the cherry blossoms around the basin should be in bloom around this time of year,” Dakota explains.
“That sounds so picturesque,” you say, daydreaming a bit about the beauty you are about to see.
“I sure hope it is,” Dakota says with almost a nervous smile.
You almost missed the smile while daydreaming a bit. Key word being almost. This causes you to start overthinking a bit. Why would Dakota be nervous? This was his location and pit stop that he picked. You only remember a few times in the years you two have been dating of him being nervous: once being when he asked you out, once being when he asked you to join the cast of Destination Fear, and once being when he told you “I love you” for the first time. There does not seem like a reasonable explanation for him to be nervous here. Maybe he is hoping for cool cinematography through the cherry blossoms or even interesting photographs from Alex Nelson while at the pit stop.
You settled on the idea that you misinterpreted the smile Dakota gave when he told the rest of you “We should be there in roughly half an hour.”
Once the half an hour passes, you all pile out of the RV with filming equipment in hand. What you see are trees littered with pink and white blooms surrounding the reservoir on a bright, clear day. The weather was not too cold either. Overall, this adventure could not have been more perfectly timed.
“So, the closest memorial we are near is the War Memorial. There are others around the basin. We could split up after the War Memorial so we can prioritize which memorials we want to see,” Dakota suggests to you all.
The group nods and head towards the War Memorial. The memorial commemorates any citizen from DC who served in World War I. What was the most fascinating was that no matter the race, ethnicity, or gender, those who died in the war were commemorated. Usually, history tends to not acknowledge those of different races, ethnicities, and genders that helped during the war, so it was refreshing to see everyone properly acknowledged. After witnessing it, you and Dakota decided to go in the same direction you started heading in while Chelsea, Tanner, and Alex decided to go the opposite way.
The two of you continue to walk the path, stopping at upcoming memorials such as the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and the George Mason Memorial. You would often be a few steps ahead of Dakota, excited about seeing all the sights, causing you to miss the fact that he kept fiddling with something in his pocket that would be the surprise of your life. After witnessing the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the two of you slowed down as you have seen most of the memorials by this point.
Dakota points up ahead to one specific tree, stating, “That tree is called the Indicator Tree. It apparently blooms a week or so before the rest of the cherry blossoms.”
“That’s so interesting,” you tell him as you continued walking towards it.
As you slowly approached the Indicator Tree, you felt Dakota grab your hand and turn you around before kissing your cheek, your hand still in his.
“You know how much I love you, right?” Dakota asks with a nervous quiver in his voice.
“Yeah,” you reply feeling like you are missing a part of the picture.
“I still can’t believe that this show brought us together,” Dakota says while getting a little bit sappy, “So I find it fitting to have the show involved with this.”
You give him a puzzled look at the second sentence before noticing that he put his camera down and that he was slowly going down on one knee. You quickly put your camera down to cover your mouth in shock.
Dakota continues while pulling a box with a gorgeous ring out of his pocket, “I know you’re the one I want to share the rest of my life with, and I hope this is an indicator of just that. Will you marry me?”
Happy tears streamed down your face as you enthusiastically tell him “Yes!”
He quickly gets up, hugs you, and kisses you before placing the ring on your finger. You hear cheering from around you. At first you thought it was just people passing by, but as you turned you noticed that Chelsea, Tanner, and both Alex’s were there. They must have been hidden around where you were to capture the moment. It started to make sense now why there was the idea of separating at the Tidal Basin and why Dakota seemed to have a nervous smile earlier: he was planning this.
“Congratulations!” the rest of the group shout while pulling the two of you into a group hug.
You could not be any happier in the moment. You were surrounded by people who care about you, and you have someone you know you will spend the rest of your life with. What more could you ask for?

Ashmore Estates pt.3- Alex Schroeder x Reader
word count:3566
warnings: language, fluff, I think that's it
summary: based on season 4, episode 6 of DF. so all credit goes to the crew, the show, and the channel/network. The packet is read, and it's time to start the investigation.
Tumblr media
(gif not mine!)
“Sequestered within the never-ending cornfields of eastern Illinois, can be found the decaying remains of Ashmore Estates,” Dakota started. “Opened in 1857 as the Coles county poor farm, it had 30 buildings spread across 260 acres,” He continued. “The day-to-day operation of the poor farm was unmonitored leading to unhygienic and unsafe living conditions. In the 1870s alone 12% of the residents passed away. One such inmate was Joe, a maintenance man for the almshouse. He had been walking back from town when he was hit by an oncoming train. Though a good samaritan carried him back home his injuries were too grave and he passed away,” Dakota explained and your heart sank. It always made you sad, when you heard stories like that, life truly was just unfair and unkind sometimes. “That’s so sad,” Chelsea said. “I was just thinking the same thing. I couldn’t even imagine,” you said and leaned your head against Alex’s shoulder. He squeezed your waist as Dakota read on.
“But perhaps the most tragic death to occur was that of 5-year-old Elva Skinner in 1880 in a building previously on site. She had been left alone inside while the adults went out to work the farm,” He said and your heart dropped. You knew this was going to be terrible, and it was.
She had passed away after her dress had caught on fire despite them doing everything they could to help her. Everyone at the table was horrified by the way she died. “What a terrible way to die,” Chelsea said and you couldn’t help but nod. There had been accounts of seeing her and hearing giggling.
“Dude when we were here last time and we were all in our sleeping arrangements there was a girl giggling that was captured on camera,” Dakota brought up. It all came back to you, you remember watching the footage back and it scared the hell out of you.
“That, like, puts validation to what happened to us,” Dakota said. “And now going back we have a name to go off of,” Alex spoke. “Elva Skinner,” you repeated the little girl's name out loud.
The packet was handed to Chelsea and she began to read. “Those lucky enough to stay alive had to contend with truly atrocious conditions. Flies reportedly swarmed everywhere and there was noticeably rotten food prepared for dinner,” she explained and you shivered at the thought. “That’s disgusting,” you said and shook your head.
“By 1916, the conditions were so appalling that the original buildings were torn down and a new one was built in their place, operating for the next 40 years. It then transitioned to a private psychiatric hospital. Allegedly the most violent patients received electroshock treatments. It closed its doors in 1986,” Chelsea stopped.
“I forgot how layered this place is,” Dakota said.
The packet was then handed over to Alex. “The most active areas include The first floor. This floor is active with every kind of paranormal activity imaginable,” he said before holding the packet in front of you. You accepted it from him and began to read.
“The second-floor green room. A former poor house resident named Mary can be found in this room. People have heard her raspy breaths follow them through the building. She’s known for throwing and knocking over items,” You finished and passed it to Tanner.
“The boiler room. Joe. the former maintenance man is found here. While he is normally friendly if he feels disrespected, he can become quite agitated,” Tanner read. He was known to not like females in the boiler room, they would get shoved, grabbed, and even have their hair pulled.
You reached for Alex’s hand and he held yours tightly. He knew you didn’t fare well with that kind of information when it came to an overnight. It made you impossibly nervous, and he always made sure that you were ok before, during, and after.
There was a man who had actually been thrown across the room after defending the girls he was investigating with.
Alex held you tighter. He knew how much worry you held for your friends and so hearing that was something that made you very uneasy. You got protective easily, and so it was something you didn’t like to hear.
Alex picked up the packet and began again. “The third floor. This entire floor is incredibly active, especially by the former electroshock therapy room. Though Elva, the five-year-old who passed away on site is known to play up here there is another unknown entity that grabs people appearing as a phantom mist before disappearing completely,” Alex described. That entity was known to cause scratches and hurt anyone who may be vulnerable when up on that floor. It’s like he can sense it and preys on the more sensitive and weak.
“We did not know about that phantom mist on the third floor, reaching out and grabbing people,” Dakota said. “What I captured on film looked exactly like that description,” Tanner pointed out and it immediately took you back to that night, and what you had seen on camera. It was terrifying, especially back then when you were completely new to all of this.
“So creepy, like I have the chills right now,” Dakota said and you nodded your head. “I do too, I remember that so well,” you added.
“To be honest what you caught there was the reason I wanted to see this location so badly,” Alex admitted. “I have to see this for myself,” He added.
“I think it’s going to be a jam-packed night. What do you say we load some gear and get going,” Alex suggested and you internally cringed at the thought of staying there again.
“Let’s do it, dude,” Dakota said and Alex replied, “let’s start this night,”
You all got up and walked back to the RV to get your gear. “I cannot believe we are back here,” You said to yourself as you looked at the building over your shoulder. “It’s been so long, I wonder if they will remember us?” Chelsea wondered aloud. “I bet they will,” you said and shook your head. You headed into the building for the first time in almost 7 years and it took your breath away. It was like taking a step into the past. You remembered your exact words when you first stepped into the building.
“Guys I think we’re screwed,” you repeated yourself from 7 years ago. “That’s exactly what you said when we first stepped into this place,” Tanner recalled and you chuckled. “Well, it’s equally as true now as it was then,” you said. Everyone chuckled, and Alex walked over to wrap his arms around you. “Everything is going to be just fine, I promise you. I won’t let anything happen to you. I know you can do it, babe,” he said softly and kissed your head.
“I hate solos, Al,” you spoke quietly. “I know, but just think when it’s over we won’t have to come back. I know you’re nervous, but I also know how strong you are. You have so much more experience than you did last time, I have full confidence that you can handle this. And if anything happens I’m right here, I’m gonna be right here,” he tried to put you at ease. “Ok,” you breathed out and wrapped your arms around him tightly. You pulled away the slightest bit so that you could lean up on your toes to place a kiss on his lips. Your hands clutched the fabric of his shirt tightly and his rested firmly on your hips.
You pulled away and softly smiled at him. He smiled back before pressing a lingering kiss on your forehead for good measure.
“You guys ready to start?” Dakota asked and you looked over at him before sighing. “I’m ready when you guys are,” you said and looked up at Alex as if asking him the same question. He just nodded his head. “I’m ready, let’s go,” he said and grabbed your hand in his.
“So we just got done setting up the gear room, we are about to jump into solos,” Alex announced and you shifted your weight nervously. “Who’s ready?” He asked. “I am never ready for solos,” you told him. “I’m not ready either,” Dakota followed up. Everyone else agreed, and you chuckled. “See, this is not a good idea Alex,” you said and softly glared at him. “You guys will be fine,” he playfully brushed it off and you rolled your eyes. “This is the worst. And we have no flashlights,” Tanner reminded everyone. Your heart dropped.
“Tanner!” Alex spoke up. “Yeah?” he asked. You could tell he was not excited at all, and you couldn’t help but feel the exact same way. “Since you won the contest today, and you are a superior athlete, and a strong man,” Alex continued. “Yup,” Tanner said as if telling him to continue. “You win the privilege…” Alex paused. “The privilege,” Tanner repeated. “Of going into Ashmore Estates, first,” Alex finished and your jaw dropped. “What?” he asked incredulously. You could hear Dakota snickering beside you and you slapped his arm. “Why?” Tanner questioned again. “You won the contest. You get to go in first,” Alex shrugged his shoulders like it was obvious. “That’s not a prize, that’s losing,” Tanner said. “Alex that’s just mean,” you said and glared at him. “Well first place goes first right?” he shrugged again and you shook your head.
“It’s so mean, to let him go in first,” Dakota joked. “You wanna take his place?” Alex asked and looked at him, “No,” Dakota admitted and you chuckled. “This is a crappy prize,” Tanner said and you agreed. “Then pride is your prize,” Alex suggested and you once again rolled your eyes. “Pride is my prize?” He asked quizically. “You are a sore winner,” Alex told him.
“This literally makes no sense. Did you put any thought into this?” Tanner questioned your boyfriend. “You know-you know what?” Alex slightly stammers. “Go for it,” Tanner encouraged him. “How about, oh, I don’t know maybe you’re wearing the enhanced recorder the entire time,” Alex spat out. “Oh no! I’m so scared. Not!” Tanner mockingly said. “Alright, this is good!” Alex said back. “Perfect,” Tanner retorted. “This is good,” Alex reiterated. “Cool,” Tanner said one last time. “Whatever, you know I’ll just go in there first,” Tanner said and you shook your head. “Stir it all up,” He told you and you sighed heavily. “I mean there you go, that’s super positive of you,” Alex said in mock positivity.
“Alright, let’s get going,” Tanner breathed out heavily. Before he walked away you went over and wrapped him in a hug. “You got this Tanner,” you said and he smiled softly and kissed your head. “Thanks, (n/n),” he said before taking a deep breath and making his way into the building. “Remember, you’re a winner,” Chelsea called after him. “Biggest winner out there,” Alex reiterated. “Doesn’t feel like a winner,” Tanner spoke up. “You’ve got this!” you tried to encourage him.
As soon as he was in the building you walked over and smacked your boyfriend's arm. “That was no prize Alex,” you said with a slight look of annoyance. “It was for us,” he shrugged and smiled down at you smugly. You rolled your eyes. “You’re gonna be the death of me Alex, I swear it,” you mumbled and he chuckled before tossing an arm around you and pulling you into his chest. “You love me,” he whispered before kissing your head. “You’re lucky I do,” you said and held his arm that was around you.
“That I am,” he said and leaned forward to kiss your cheek.
“Hey, what about us?” Dakota asked with his arms out in mock hurt. “Aww, I love you guys too,” you said and walked over to hug Dakota before kissing his cheek and doing the same with Chelsea.
“They’re such babies,” she said and you laughed. “They really are, honestly. I don’t know how I put up with him sometimes,” you nudged her shoulder and she chuckled. You all sat at the table once again. You set your camera down so you could grab his free hand and hold it in your lap. Just to hold him in some way. It eased your nerves.
“That was kinda mean, not gonna lie,” Dakota said and you nodded your head. “He’s right Al,” you said and looked at him. “Are you like mad at him?” Chelsea asked softly. “No. He just won. The prize was not a good one at all,” Alex explained it simply. “Obviously Alex,” you said and nudged his shoulder. “What’s the moral of this story? Don’t win? Don’t try?” Dakota asked curiously. “Just be cautious. Watch your back,” Alex told you. “Oh wow, that’s nice,” your sarcasm practically dripping from your words. “A prize can turn into a surprise, real fast,” Chelsea spoke up and you gave her a tight-lipped smile. “True, true,” Dakota agreed with her.
“Do you think he’s ok up there?” you asked nervously. “He’s Tanner, I’m sure he’s ok why don’t you check on him if you’re worried?” Chelsea asked and smirked playfully as she handed you the walkie. You rolled your eyes and took it, “I’m not trying to scare him I’m just gonna check on him. But if it does scare him then that’s what happens,” you shrugged and softly smiled. They all chuckled. “You’re too good of a person,” Dakota shook his head and you laughed. “Sure, ok,” you said and stuck your tongue out at him playfully.
You held down the button for a few seconds before speaking, knowing that it might not scare him since he would hear that. “Hey, Tanner,” you said. “Shit,” you heard him curse and you internally cringed. “Yeah, go for Tanner,” you heard him say and you could tell he was already a bit drained from being in there. “I’m sorry to scare you, I just wanted to check in and make sure that you were ok,” you spoke. “It’s ok, I just wasn’t expecting it. It’s freaky up here honestly,” he told you and you nodded despite him not being able to see you. “Are you ok?” you asked sweetly. “Yeah, I’m ok, just a bit freaked out. I’ll see you in a bit ok?” he asked and you just sighed. “Alright, We’re here if you need us at all,” you said genuinely hoping to ease his nerves. “Thanks (n/n),” that was the last you heard.
“Are you ok?” Alex asked and pulled you closer to his side. You rested your head on his shoulder and nodded. “I’m ok, just uneasy,” you said and sighed. “I know this may sound weird, but why don't you go next?” Chelsea suggested with a small smile. You looked at her with wide eyes. “What? You want me to pee myself?” you asked in disbelief. Everyone chuckled, “No, I just thought it would be a good idea to get it over with and not have to wait and let anxiety build up even more,” She explained and you let your shoulders fall.
“You’re probably right, it would just be easier for me to go and get it over with. Gosh, this really sucks Alex,” you said and nudged him. He kissed the top of your head and smiled down at you.
“Can I talk to you before I go in Al?” you asked him and he looked down at you in concern. “Yeah, of course, babe,” he said and you began to get off of your seat. They all looked at you in worry. “Is everything ok,(y/n)?” Dakota asked and you just nodded. “Yeah, I just wanted to talk to him for a second. “We’ll be right back,” you said and grabbed Alex’s hand. You both set your cameras down before walking away a bit.
“Is everything ok?” Alex asked as he placed his arms around you. “I really am scared Al, what if they do recognize us and something bad happens?” you told him. “What if something grabs Chelsea if she’s in the basement or something and she gets hurt? What if one of you gets hurt? There are just so many what-ifs and I’m scared,” you relayed your fears to him. He looked down at you with a soft gaze. “Hey, hey, don’t think like that. I know you’re scared but nothing will happen. And even if something does, we have each other. All of us have each other's backs, that’s the way it’s always been and I’m sure that’s the way it will always be. So if you need to break down or fall apart, we’re right here. I’m right here,” he said and pulled you in close.
You wrapped your arms around him and held onto him tightly not wanting to let go. “I just want us all to be ok,” you spoke softly and he leaned down to kiss your head. “We will be,” he said and pulled away from you slightly so he could look at you.
You moved your arms up and around his neck to pull him down and place a kiss on his lips. He reached up to place a hand on your cheek and you leaned into his touch. He couldn’t help but always want you closer, he could never put his finger on it but something about you was just so endearing. Maybe it was everything?
Just like that, he made you forget where you were, and what you were about to do. He made you feel at home, and secure. That was always the case, he took the fear away even if only for a few seconds. It was just gone.
Before you knew it you had to pull away, and for a few seconds, you felt like you could breathe. He smiled down at you and pushed a strand of hair away from your face. “Promise, you’ll be here when I get back?” you asked looking up at him with a worried gaze. “I promise you,” he reassured and kissed your forehead. “Ok, ok I’m fine,” you said trying to be sure of yourself. “You ready?” he asked and placed his arm around your shoulders. You nodded your head curtly and took a deep breath. “I’m ready,” you said and he guided you back towards your friends.
“Hey, you ok?” Chelsea asked when you sat back down.” Yeah, I’m ok,” you smiled softly at her. Before Dakota got to speak Tanner came rushing out of the building. “Woah, Tanner are you ok?” You asked as he quickly made his way over to the table. “I just heard whistling,” he told you, you could hear the shock in his voice. “What? A whistle?” Dakota asked incredulously. “Like on the second floor, I started to hear this faint whistling. There’s no way if I didn’t have this device that I’d have heard it,” Tanner explained and your heart rate picked up. “That’s crazy, Tanner,” you expressed. Alex and Dakota let out a simultaneous ‘what?’.
“Yes, it was the second floor,” he informed you. “That’s freaking terrifying,” Chelsea said.
“Dude, I heard it multiple times,” He told you. “Whistling, for sure?” Dakota asked. “100%” Tanner assured him. “Like, it, enough to where it, it, froze me,” He described his experience.
“That’s super weird because there’s supposed to be a woman, Mary, on that floor. She’s a poltergeist on that floor, she’ll move things around, and other claims are that there is raspy, like, whispering and breathing,” Alex explained some claims from that floor. “Did you go like, approach where it came from?” Dakota asked. “Fuck that,” Tanner stated and you chuckled. “I concur,” you agreed. “See, thank you,” Tanner said and gestured to you and you just nodded at him. “You didn’t go towards it?” Dakota asked again. “I am not exploring this place by myself the entire night. Someone else can take that second floor and do the follow-up,” Tanner said. “I’m proud of myself. I’m calling it quits,” he said and you just nodded. “I’m proud of you too Tanner,” you said and got up to give him a high-five. He instead wrapped his arm around your shoulder and brought you into a big side hug. “Alright, (y/n), It’s your turn. You’re next up,” Alex said and you sighed heavily.
“This is great, I’m so excited,” you said sarcastically and threw your arms up in mock excitement. They all chuckled. “You’ve got this,” Tanner said and squeezed your shoulder. “Alright, alright fine. I’m going,” you sighed and you got handed the Ovilus. “Bye guys,” you waved and as you walked away you felt someone come up behind you. You turned around to see Alex and smiled. “What? Did I forget something?” you asked. He just leaned down and pressed his lips to yours for a few seconds before pulling away. “Just that,” he said and smiled back at you. You shook your head, “You’re too much sometimes Al, now go on, I have to get this over with,” you said and shooed him away. “If I die, I love you guys!” you called over your shoulder. “We love you too!” you heard them call back.
“Alright guys, let’s do this,” you spoke and opened the door.

so, you guys! I'm back. I know it's been ages and I'm so so so sorry. I've been doing school. and I suddenly made the decision to drop out after some major life events took place last week. I know it's probably annoying but If you could pray for me or just even send kind thoughts it would really give me hope and it's more than more appreciated.
I love you to the moon and to Saturn!

“I’m gonna flip out,” you thought to yourself. Tanner noticed your unease and gave your shoulder a gentle squeeze and sent you a reassuring smile. You smiled back gratefully.
You exited the RV and immediately you looked up to see how tall it was. You held Alex’s hand, “you guys ready to climb?” he asked and looked back at you all. He gave your hand a squeeze and pulled it up to place a kiss on the back of it.
“That is so tall, I cannot climb that high,” Dakota said as you walked closer to the building. “No, you’re gonna do great,” Alex told him and you shook your head. “I’m gonna freak out,” you said quietly. “You’ll be ok babe, I promise,” Alex had heard you and pulled you closer to place his arm around your shoulders. He kissed your head once you had stepped into the building.
The whole group could tell that you were nervous and they all worried that you might get scared up there. When Alex let go of your hand Chelsea was quick to grab it and you smiled gratefully at her. “Thank you,” you mumbled and she just smiled at you. “You’ll do just fine, (y/n/n),” Dakota said and gave you a side hug. You sighed in relief at the thought of your friends being there with you. It was nice to have a support system in times like these when you really needed them.

Yeah, you climbed to the top of the giant mailbox, but this felt different. You were relying on your strength to get you to the top of a giant concrete wall. Where you could easily lose your footing and fall, whereas there were guard rails and stairs on the former.
You all got geared up, and ready to climb the wall, but your nerves began to build up even more at the thought of being so high up. Your heart started racing faster and your stomach began to turn.
You all chalked up your hands and were ready to climb the wall. Were you physically prepared and safe yes, but in your mind, you thought of all the things that could go wrong. You were very out of it, you couldn’t focus and that was making it all worse.
You walked into the silo and looked up. To put it simply, you were screwed.
“Woah!” Chelsea was in awe of how high it went. “Oh, damn. Look at this,” Tanner said as he looked around him. You backed up and ended up hitting Tanner’s chest instead of a wall. “Shit, I’m sorry,” you said and moved away from him. “Hey, no you’re fine. Are you ok?” he asked as he took in the expression on your face. You looked scared and it worried him. “Yeah, yeah. I’m totally ok,” you told him, and just as he was about to say something Alex spoke up.
“Now you guys already know the rules. Whoever makes it the highest is going to be very happy for solos tomorrow. Dakota, Chelsea. You guys wanna go first?” he asked and looked at them expectantly. “Let’s do it,” Chelsea said. “Game on,” Dakota directed at his sister and she said the same thing right back.
They got all hooked up and were ready to go. “Here we go,” Chelsea said as she prepared to climb as high as she could. “No matter how much we hate each other at the end of this, we’re still family,” Dakota turned and pointed at his sister as he spoke. Despite his comment that would usually make you laugh all you could think of was having to climb up there.
“Alright, you guys ready?” Alex asked. “Let’s do it,” Dakota said.
“3,2,1, Climb,” Alex gave them a countdown.
You watched as they both began their ascension of the wall.
“Let’s go,” Tanner encouraged them, and you immediately reached for Alex’s hand. He looked over at you and his gaze softened at the fear on your face. He could feel how scared you were by the shaking of your hand in his. He pulled you close and wrapped his arms around you. Your back was to his chest as he rested his head on your shoulder. “You’re ok, nothing is gonna go wrong I promise you. It’ll be over before you know it, and you won’t have to do it again alright?” he said softly so that only you could hear him. You slowly nodded your head as your eyes stared above you. You held his arms tighter around you. “I need you to answer me ok, talk to me,” he said and you let out a shaky sigh. “I don’t think I can do it,” you said and shut your eyes tightly.
“This is actually not easy,” you heard Chelsea say and you shook your head. “Al, I don’t wanna do this anymore,” you told him fearfully. “Are you sure you don’t wanna try?” he asked just to make sure because he knew how competitive you were and you might regret it later that you never even tried.
“I’m sure, I don’t think I can do it right now,” you breathed out nervously. “That’s ok babe, you don’t have to do it,” he told you and held you tighter. “I’m sorry,” you mumbled. “Don’t be sorry, it’s completely ok sweetheart,” he said and kissed your head softly. You let out a huge sigh of relief and relaxed against him a bit.
“Oh my god, my arms are already losing strength,” you heard Dakota complain and you giggled a bit. You kept silent as you watched your friends climb higher.
“Dakota,” Chelsea spoke to her brother. “What?” He called. “I’m scared,” Chelsea admitted with a nervous chuckle. “I’m scared too,” He retorted. A small smile took its place on your face during the interaction.
“I see some wiggling arms are you getting tired?” Alex asked. You heard Dakota curse as he tried to hold on. “Ok, I’m actually at my strength capacity, I think,” Chelsea said and you squeezed Alex’s arms tighter. “She’s fine babe,” he said and hugged you tighter for a second.
“Ok, I’m calling it,” She announced and you let out a breath you didn’t know you were holding.
“Keep going dude, you’re almost halfway there,” She encouraged Dakota.
“You got this Dak,” Alex tried to motivate his friend. “I don’t know if I can go any higher,” Dakota said and made the ultimate decision to make his way back to the ground.
When his feet touched the ground you smiled. “I beat you,” he said to Chelsea and you chuckled. Alex let you go in order to get ready for his turn. “You guys are up next,” Chelsea stated. “Let’s do it,” Tanner said and got to his spot. Dakota, Tanner, and Chelsea looked at you when you stayed in your spot. “Aren’t you coming?” Tanner asked and you gingerly shook your head. “No, I um- I just- I-” Alex spoke up to get you out of having to explain. “She doesn’t want to and that’s fine, she doesn’t have to,” he told them and you smiled thankfully at him.
“Yeah of course, no, that’s fine,” Dakota said and went to stand next to you. He tossed his arm across your shoulders and squeezed you reassuringly. You smiled up at him. “No worries, (y/n), it’s no big deal,” Chelsea said and stood on the other side of you. You leaned your head on her shoulder. “Root for me guys, I’m counting on you,” Tanner said and smiled at you. You chuckled and shook your head at his antics.
“Who do you think’s gonna win?” Alex asked. Chelsea and Dakota looked at each other. ‘Tanner, for sure,” Chelsea said and Dakota agreed playfully. “Screw you guys,” Alex said and you smiled over at him hoping to encourage him. “I believe in you babe,” you said and shot a thumbs up his way. “At least someone is rooting for me,” He said and everyone chuckled.
“Climbers, are you ready?” Dakota asked “Yeah,” Tanner confirmed. “Ready,” Alex spoke up.
“In 5- Go! Go!” His raised voice made you flinch a bit. Immediately they started up the wall and your hand reached out for Chelsea’s.
“Oh, man,” you already heard Alex sigh. “Slow and steady wins the race,” Dakota advised teasingly. “Tanner’s really high up there already,” Alex said and you looked over at him to see that he was in fact very high up. “Tanner, how do you do that?” Alex questioned. “Tanner!” Dakota exclaimed. “He looks like Spider-Man,” Chelsea compared and you chuckled. “Be careful guys,” you called out.
“They’re making us look so weak,” Dakota complained to Chelsea and you giggled. “Well, I think you guys did great,” You said. “At least you did it,” you said softly.
You smiled softly at them and they both gave you a side hug.
“I don’t think I can make it,” Alex spoke up. “You can do it Al!” you tried to keep his spirits up. “Keep going Al, you got this!” Chelsea shouted after you. “Damn, Tanner’s gonna make it to the top,” Dakota said.
Just as he said it Tanner called down. “I did it!” you chuckled and shook your head.
They both came down and you all congratulated Tanner on his victory. You walked over to Alex and wrapped your arms around him. “You did great bub,” you said and smiled up at him. “Thanks, babe,” he said and leaned down to kiss you softly.
Alex walked over and gave Tanner a high-five. “You won,” He said. “You did, fair and square,” Chelsea said and you nodded in agreement. “Alright, no more fun and games. Let’s go read this packet,” Alex announced as you all headed out.
“This was fun. But my forearms are on fire right now,” Tanner said and you chuckled. “Oh, yeah,” Alex agreed and you wrapped your arm around his. Placing a kiss on his shoulder while you walked.
As you walked back out to the RV you began to think about the packet read. You were excited, to be honest, but as per usual there was a bit of fear in you as well.
“Are you guys excited about the packet?” Alex asked and everyone looked at him like he was crazy. “Are you kidding me?” Chelsea asked with a raised eyebrow. “Honestly, I kind of am,” you said and looked up at him. He beamed down at you and kissed your head. “See, at least someone is,” he told them and teasingly stuck his tongue out at them. They all laughed and shook their heads.
“Are you not scared?” Dakota asked you. “Of course I’m scared, but he’s been so excited about it that it kind of has me excited too,” you laughed softly. “You’re crazy. His excitement is scaring me,” Tanner told you and you laughed again.
You all got into the RV and took your seats. The skies had begun to melt into pastel pinks and layers of scarlet. It was your favorite time of the day.
You looked out the window as the clouds melded blue with pink. “You know, this time of day always reminds me of you,” Alex said softly. You peered up at him and smiled. “And why is that?” you asked and reached out to interlace your fingers with his. “I can always find you at a window reading, or just watching at this time of day. It’s your favorite,” he explained and your smile brightened. “Yeah, it is,” you said and reached over to kiss his cheek.
You sat there with your head against his shoulder as the last of the sun’s rays warmed you. He kept you close while he scrolled through his phone, following suit of everyone else for the time being. As the sky grew darker you knew it was time to pick up where you left off.
“You just got to the top like it was nothing,” Dakota said to Tanner. “I wanted the mystery prize,” Tanner explained himself and you laughed. “Well you definitely got it,” you said and reached over to give him a high-five. “I’m pretty curious what this whole prize is, but I’m even more curious as to where we’re going,” Chelsea spoke up and looked at Alex expectantly.
“I have another surprise,” Alex told you all and you sighed heavily. “Are you kidding me? Can you stop?” Tanner asked tiredly. “Really Al, there is no stopping you,” you said and shook your head.
“You’re gonna ruin the word ‘surprise’ for me,” Chelsea told him and you nodded in agreement.
“The spot that I’m taking you guys right now, might bring back some bad memories,” Alex informed you all and you let your head lull back in exhaustion. “What?” everyone questioned. “What do you mean?” you asked him. “I can’t tell you that yet, but we are getting close so I do want all 4 of you guys to go up there if you can and keep your eyes peeled,” Alex told you all.
“Ok, I don’t think 4 will fit up there so I’ll stay back here, just tell me what it is,” you said and let them go up front. “You’ll know it when you see it,” Alex told you all. “I’m incredibly curious,” Chelsea said and made her way to the front. “What the heck are you doing to us, Al?” Dakota questioned. “We are in the middle of nowhere,” Chelsea stated. “This is gonna be terrible isn’t it?” you looked over at your boyfriend for confirmation but he just smiled at you. “I think I see it,” He said and you sighed. “What?” Dakota asked and looked ahead as best as he could.
“Wait a minute,” Chelsea started. “Oh,” Tanner said in shock as he turned back to look at Alex. “Yup,” Alex confirmed. “Wait is that?...” Dakota didn’t finish as Tanner raised his voice.
“Dude! That’s Ashmore!” he exclaimed and your eyes widened. “What the hell? No way!” you said in shock. “It totally is!” Chelsea confirmed.
“It’s been like six, seven years since we’ve been here,” Dakota explained. “A little trip down memory lane,” Alex said and you could’ve sworn your stomach actually sunk.
This place was definitely not the best memory for you. It was your first overnight and you came out of there more scared than you had been before even going in.
“This is the first location me and (y/n) ever slept at,” Chelsea reminded. “I remember it so vividly, it still freaks me out to this day,” You explained and she nodded in acknowledgment.
“This is where it all started,” Dakota pointed out. “None of us ever wanted to come back here, ever,” Tanner spoke and you couldn’t help but agree.
“Alright, here we go,” Alex said as you all got up to exit the RV. “This is not going to be a good night,” you breathed out. Alex placed a hand on your back as you stepped out. “You’ll be fine babe, one step at a time,” he said and kissed the back of your head.
“You guys ready for this?” He asked everyone and turned around to get their reactions. “Oh, holy crap, dude,” Dakota said in awe as he stepped out. “Oh my goodness,” Chelsea said as she looked on at the tall building ahead of her. “I had to see the look on your faces when we pulled up to this place,” Alex said and you chuckled. “Of course, you did,” you said and playfully smacked his shoulder. “I mean it is kind of cool to be back,” Tanner said. “It’s cool, but I’m nervous,” Dakota stated. “I am too,” you said and you both looked at each other with uneasy glances.
“I did dig up some new, and kind of disturbing information about this place. What do you say, we read the packet?” He asked and your shoulders sagged. “This is gonna be so not fun, I am not excited anymore,” you said and everyone chuckled. “I never was,” Chelsea said and you laughed.
You set up the camera and all sat down to read the packet. You shivered a bit from the wind that was blowing. Alex wrapped an around your waist and pulled you closer to him.
“This is a place that has definitely left its mark on all of you,” Alex began. “It’s so crazy how much we’ve grown since the last time we were here,” Chelsea said. “We definitely left with a lot of questions,” You stated. “I’m just curious to see if your new information gives us any answers,” you spoke again.
“I also have another surprise,” Alex stated and you let your head drop to the table in annoyance. “No, stop,” Dakota said. And everyone just begged the questions ‘why?’ and ‘what?’
“When we’re done reading this packet we are going to be going right in,” He said and your eyes widened in shock. “Absolutely not,” You said and waved your hands around in objection. “Absolutely,” Alex came back. You screwed your eyes shut and took a deep breath.
“I should’ve seen this coming,” Dakota said and you just sighed for the millionth time that day.
“Dakota, do you want to open it?” Alex asked and held out the packet. “Here goes nothing,” Dakota said as he began to open it.
“Ashmore Estates,” Chelsea and Dakota read at the same time.
And so it began.

You Catch Each Other Staring- Tanner Wiseman x Reader
word count:376
warnings: fluff, more of a blurb, sorry guys!
summary: You catch each other staring.
Tumblr media
(not my gif!)
“I think you have a staring problem,” Chelsea whispered to you, and your brows furrowed as you turned to look at her. “What?” you asked. “You stare at Tanner all the time, and he’s surprisingly oblivious,” she said with a sly grin. You shook your head, “I do not stare all the time. I stare on occasion but not all the time,” you tried to defend. “That’s a blatant lie,” Dakota quipped and you looked at him in shock. “No, way, you’re in on this too?” you said and sighed.
A few days went by and you had been trying your best not to stare, and they would chuckle if they caught you even looking. It had begun to get on your nerves and so you decided to ignore them as best as you could. You heard laughing from across the RV and you smiled at the sight of your boyfriend being so happy. You could help but let your eyes scan his face as he laughed and made jokes with Dakota.
A smile spread across your face as you watched him, nothing else was truly in focus and it was in these moments you realized how lucky you were. “You ok babe?” you heard Tanner speak up and you shook your head. Your head rested in your hand and you just smiled at him. “I’m just fine,” you said happily. Dakota snickered next to him. “What’s so funny?” Tanner asked. “She was obviously staring at you,” Dakota said and you sighed. “Aww, you were?” Tanner asked once again and you blushed softly. “Maybe,” you said and looked away. “Don’t be embarrassed about that, I mean I do it too,” he said and you blushed, even more, knowing he looked at you like you looked at him.
“You guys seriously got on me about it, what about him?” you said to Dakota and scoffed. “Seriously?” you asked and shook your head. “Wait, what happened?” your boyfriend questioned. “Dakota and Chels teased me about staring, that’s why he was laughing,” you explained. Tanner hit the back of Dakota’s head, and he flinched instinctively moving forward. You chuckled. “You can stare all you want, I mean why wouldn’t you?” Tanner joked and you smiled and shook your head.

"Random Memory"- Tanner Wiseman x Reader
word count: 1308
warnings: fluff!
Summary: "A Random Memory"
Tumblr media
(gif not mine! again random sorry)
You walked into the house with an exhausted sigh and set your things to the side. All you wanted was to sit down and watch your favorite movie with your boyfriend. You had gotten fired and the only thing that you knew would help you was spending time with Tanner. You quietly walked down the hallway and to your bedroom to see the door slightly ajar. You gently knocked on the partially opened door and peeked into the room just to see him lying on the bed scrolling on his phone. “Hey, Tanner,” you said quietly, he looked up from his phone with a smile on his face at the sound of your voice. Quickly noticing that you weren’t smiling he frowned and got off of the bed. “Babe, what’s wrong?” he asked as he made his way over to you. He gently placed his hands on your cheeks stroking just under your eyes. You once again sighed heavily before closing your eyes. He felt your lashes flutter against his skin and noticed that your lashes had begun to get wet.
“Hey, hey what’s wrong?” he asked and let go so he could pull you into a hug. You wrapped your arms tightly around him, trying to hold on for as long as humanly possible. “I’m just so tired,” you said between harsh and broken cries. He let one hand cradle your head to his chest while the other stayed firmly around you. You grasped his shirt tightly in your fists as he let you cry. “I woke up and thought today would be good. I thought I’d have a good day at work but, no. My boss decided that it was high time that he replaced me. He notified me just before I was about to leave, and so now I have no job.” you could feel your voice break from the strain you were putting on it. He could feel you shake in his hold and it made him cringe. “It’s ok (y/n), it will all be ok,” he said and gently picked you up to carry you to the bed. He set you down and sat next to you, you wiped furiously at your eyes trying to will yourself to stop crying. He wrapped his arms around you once again. “It’s ok to cry, you don’t have to keep it in,” he said trying to take your hands away from your face. He knew you were trying to keep it in and he knew it would only make things worse. “I’m sorry I’m being such a baby,” you said and took a deep breath. “You’re not being a baby. You’re feeling hurt and upset and that’s valid, you have the right to feel the way you feel and you never have to hide it around me,” he reassured you. You looked up at him with your bottom lip between your teeth. He raised one hand to gently tug your lip back into place and kissed you softly. You felt your lip quiver again and you sighed shakily, “I thought it was going really well. I mean I’ve been there for what almost 2 years,” you said and choked up a bit at the end.
“Your boss has always been an asshole to you and everyone else. You deserve better than that, and you’re going to find better than that,” Tanner promised you. “Really?” you questioned. “Of course,” he assured you once more. “I know it’s tough right now but you’ll find somewhere better for you, and it won’t make you upset. It won’t make you have to think about forcing yourself to make things go well. It just will, it’ll fall into place and everything will be ok,” he said. You nodded your head swiftly and sniffled softly. “Ok, you’re right,” you said and grabbed onto his hand tightly. “I always am,” he said and it made you chuckle lightly. He saw a small smile on your lips and it made him smile. “I know, it won’t happen immediately, but trust me when I say something’s gonna happen. It will happen,” he said and you let out a louder chuckle and nodded your head. “I know. It always does, just like that road trip last summer,” you said and shook your head with a large smile. “Exactly, see. When have I ever steered you wrong babe?” he asked with a raised brow. “Oh, don’t get me started, 'cause I remember a few times you literally steered me wrong. Remember we also did get lost on that road trip and it was definitely not my fault,” you said. Your voice was still a bit hoarse. He chuckled, “You were giving me the directions,” he defended himself. “You took the wrong turns!” you also took a chance to defend yourself. A smile crept onto your face at the memory.

“Ok, so take the next exit, and merge onto the freeway,” you instructed your boyfriend. He nodded at your directions and just totally passed the exit. “Babe, no, you just missed the exit!” you exclaimed. “You said it was the next one though,” he said and you sighed. “That was the next one,” you said and pointed your thumb behind you. “Well ok, we’ll just take this exit and I’m sure we can find our way to the freeway,” he said while turning the blinker on to make the right. “Tanner, this is what always gets us lost, you get us all turned around,” you said and let your head fall back against the headrest.
“I’m not the one reading the directions,” he said. “But you miss all the turns and exits,” you said and pinched the bridge of your nose.
“Just trust me, babe, I’ll find the way back,” he said and you shook your head. “I’m the ultimate problem solver, and the best driver you’ve ever met,” he said with a big smile. You looked over at him and once again shook your head but this time a smile was placed on your lips and a laugh came tumbling from your lips, not a sigh. “I’m not sure about the latter,” you said and looked over at him. He glanced over at you quickly with an incredulous expression on his face. “What?” he asked in offense. “I’d have to say, that I’m the better driver of us two,” you expressed your thoughts. “Oh sure,” he said sarcastically. “It’s true!” you exclaimed. “I’m not the one who has gotten flipped off multiple times,” he said. “You jerk! I’m not the one who gets honked at and flipped off every other car they pass,” you said and stuck your tongue out at him. “Ok, ok, maybe we’re both not very good drivers. “I’ll admit just this once, you’re not a terrible driver, except when you get us lost the moment we have to drive over 30 minutes to get somewhere,” you said and threw a sly grin over at him. “I’ll take the first half of that and let the other stuff go just this once,” he said and you chuckled. “Alright, let’s find the damn freeway or we’ll be stuck here forever,” you said and reached over to grab his free hand.”
--
“That was a good trip though,” you said and leaned your head on his shoulder. “Yeah it was,” he said and kissed your head. “You’re not a terrible driver,” he admitted and you chuckled. “Thanks, babe,” you said and smiled up at him. “You want to go for a drive?” he asked randomly and you smiled brightly at the idea. “Yeah I do,” you said happily. “I promise, I won’t get us lost,” he said and you sighed with a smile and a shake of your head. “Honestly, I wouldn’t mind it so much,” you kissed his cheek. “Let’s get lost for a while,”

Tumblr media
(not my pic!)
It had only been a couple of days since your first location of the road trip and you were already exhausted. You could tell that everyone else was as well, and it made you chuckle a bit.
They all looked at you with confusion as you let out a small laugh. Your boyfriend Tanner looked down at you sitting next to him with his brows drawn together in confusion.
“What are you laughing about weirdo?” he asked. “I just think it’s funny how exhausted we are after one location. I always forget how much energy it takes out of you on these road trips,” you explained.
They all nodded in agreement, and Tanner wrapped his arm around you to hold you tighter to him and you sighed in content while relaxing in his hold.
“Yeah, I forget how depleting these road trips are. Even right off the bat, it’s like one of these locations can just suck the energy right out of you.” Chelsea said.
“Yeah.” Dakota agreed. “We have so much road trip left,” she spoke again.
“I’m tired. I’m like seriously so tired.” Dakota expressed his own exhaustion.
“That was a long night,” Alex added. “Yeah honestly, it was a huge location.” you agreed with him.
You looked to Dakota as he spoke up again. “That was a really massive location that took a lot out of us, and this next one is equally as big.” you let out a sigh as you rolled your eyes and let your head lull back in exasperation. Tanner chuckled at you before asking a question. “Where are we going now?”
“Right now, we’re headed to a place called Jailhouse Pizza,” Dakota confirmed your next destination. Your eyes lit up and you gasped.
“Pizza?!” you exclaimed. You looked up at your boyfriend in excitement with a wide grin and he laughed before leaning down to press a kiss on your forehead.
“I love pizza!” Chelsea beamed at her brother. She reached over the table to high-five him as he expressed his excitement as well.
“Good call.” she praised.
“Seriously, I’m stoked right now.” you professed your elation.
“It actually used to be a jail and then it was abandoned. And they came in and renovated it into a pizza place.” Dakota revealed.
“Pizza in a jail?” Alex asked. “Uh-huh,” Dakota confirmed. “Is it haunted?” he asked the question that you were sure most of you were wondering, or at least you were.
“It is haunted.” Dakota once again confirmed.
You let out another sigh, one of the many you would let out throughout the road trip.
“For once can we go to a place that isn’t haunted? Like damn Dakota.” you expressed and he laughed. “I guess keep your guard up while you’re taking a bite.” he shrugged.
You flipped him off and everyone chuckled.
“I hate you sometimes Kota, I swear,” you complained a bit and he just tossed you a Cheshire grin.
You huffed and curled in on yourself so you could fit next to your boyfriend and leave some more space on the couch for Alex.
“It better be some damn good Pizza,” you grumbled and Tanner chuckled.
---
You pulled up to the place and piled out of the RV. One of Tanner’s beanies sat atop your head and a need for food filled your stomach.
He grabbed your hand and interlocked his fingers with yours and squeezed slightly. You squeezed his hand back and he brought it up to his lips to place a kiss on your knuckles. It made you smile brightly at the small yet incredibly sweet gesture of affection.
“If a Pizza place prisoner ghost gets me. Promise to find love again,” you said to your boyfriend and it made him laugh. He pulled you to a halt before grabbing your waist and leaning down to kiss you sweetly, his nose was cold as it bumped yours but his lips were warm. He pulled away. “I make no promises.” he joked and tugged you toward the entrance where your friends waited.
Tanner held the door open for everyone before walking in behind you so he could wrap one arm around your waist and hold the camera with the other one.
“Let’s check this out,” Dakota said and you all walked around the place, acting silly.
Dakota closed one of the cell doors and you could hear Tanner whine and it made you giggle.
“That’s not very nice dude.” your boyfriend whines as he’s let out. “This would be foreshadowing, I don’t know,” Dakota said and you looked at him with a confused glare.
You all decided it was time to sit down and order, you entered your “jail cell” and looked through the menus. You were seated between Tanner and Chelsea, as you looked through the options.
“What do you guys even like on your pizza?” Dakota asked everyone in curiosity.
“I’m a cheese gal,” Chelsea revealed and you looked at her and chuckled. “Same as her,” you told them.
“Just the cheese?” Alex questioned incredulously.
“Yeah, guys,” you said and chuckled. “That’s so boring,” Alex exclaimed. “I know,” Chelsea said.
You just rolled your eyes and let out a laugh.
“They have a pizza called the Electric Chair. It says “Warning, eat at your own risk,” pepperoni sausage, jalapeno peppers, hot sauce, and it says “Caution, very hot.” “ Dakota described the pizza to you all.
“I’m going to order that,” he stated. You laughed. “You boys are not gonna handle it very well I swear.” you joked and they looked at you in offense.
---
The pizza arrives and your eyes light up, “You guys! Look at this! I have never been more ready to eat a pizza in my entire life!” you blurted in excitement. They all laugh before reaching to grab their pieces. “Time to try the hottest pizza in the state,” Dakota announced.
The boys took their first bites and their eyes widened at the heat of it. Tanner fanned his mouth and Alex stuck out his tongue and whined. You looked at Dakota and saw him rubbing his eyes. “I’m actually crying,” he said and you grinned. “I told you boys.” you nagged and Chelsea laughed. “Well, let’s see you try it then!” Alex challenged. You brought the pizza up to your mouth and took a bite, you could feel the heat but it wasn’t nearly as bad as they made it out to be. Your assumption was correct, they just couldn’t handle it. It wasn’t really bad, honestly, it tasted really good. They all looked at you as you calmly took another bite and chewed happily. “What the hell is wrong with you?” Your boyfriend asked. “It’s honestly not that hot, you guys are obviously just babies,” you said with a shrug and a smile. Chels took a bite and looked at you with no sense of discomfort just like your reaction had been. You raised your hand and gave her a high-five. She chuckled as you all continued to eat.
Dakota set down his drink and spoke. “Do you guys want a hint about the main haunted location we’re going to tomorrow night?”
His question made you nod your head with fervor.
“Sure,” Tanner answered.
“There were people at this location who literally spent over two decades in total darkness,” he said. “What?” your boyfriend questioned in shock. Your eyes widened and you reached to grab Tanner’s hand, he held it in reassurance. “Two decades?” Chelsea inquired.
Dakota hummed in confirmation. “So much so that they went blind. By the time they went out, they couldn’t see anymore.” He explained. “That’s horrible Dakota. What the hell?” you said.
“That is messed up,” Alex added.
“I can’t imagine being stuck in darkness enough for you to go blind. I don’t even know like a type of place that would do that to a person.” Tanner spoke.
“I got nothing,” Chelsea said.
“I honestly have no clue…” you said softly.
Tanner looked down at you and let go of your hand to wrap his arm around your shoulder knowing that you were afraid of the dark. It was always a hard part of being on the road trip, being in the dark for hours on end really freaked you out.
He leaned down and pressed a kiss on your hair before whispering. “You’ll be ok babe, I’ll be there I promise.” you nodded and leaned into him a bit more.
---
You all got back into the RV and took a seat. You sat next to Tanner at the table your back was against the wall and your legs were draped over his. He let his hand rest on your thigh drawing comforting nonsensical patterns. He could tell you were even more nervous about the location because of the information Dakota had disclosed earlier.
The hours leading up to the packet read weren’t very easy for you. All of it was stressing you out more so than usual. You hated the dark and you had a feeling that Dakota was going to have one of his stupid ideas and center it around that. It gave you anxiety like you couldn’t believe. The only thing keeping you grounded was Tanner being close to you and giving you as much comfort as he could.
You pulled off of the road and you knew it was time to get out and read the packet. It was time to figure out where you were going next, and honestly, you weren’t ready to know. You Tanner, and Chels sat across from Dakota with the packet in his hands. You were tense and Tanner could tell  so he pulled you closer to him to try and help you relax a bit. He rubbed his hand up and down your back in soothing motions helping to release some of the tension that had been building all day. “Alright. Are you guys ready to find out where we’re going? Dakota exhaled the question. “I mean I’m definitely nervous.” Your boyfriend answered. “I am definitely not ready for this.” you exhaled heavily. Chelsea reached over and gave your hand a reassuring squeeze. “There’s an experiment that I do have in mind for this location, something that we’ve never done before,” he said and your heart dropped. You knew he had something up his sleeve, he always did. “Those never end well.” you rolled your eyes at him. “Hey! They aren’t that bad.” he protested. Chelsea raised an eyebrow at her brother.“Fine ok, they’re horrible but they’re effective,” he said. “Now let’s just say this is going to be a night we’ll probably never forget. So you guys wanna open the packet?” he questioned. He passed the packet forward toward Tanner and he took it from him. You watched as he slowly revealed the location you were going to stay in the next night. “The Missouri State penitentiary!” you all exclaimed. You internally cringed not wanting to hear anything about it as Tanner began to read the packet. “Once infamously labeled ‘the bloodiest 47 acres in America,’ the Missouri State Penitentiary now sits vacant stoically decaying along the Missouri River. In operation for 168 years. The prison held some of America’s most notorious criminals, including Robert pretty boy Floyd, anarchist Emma Goldman, and even murderer James Earl Ray. It was from this prison that James Earl Ray escaped and assassinated Martin Luther King Jr.” Tanner finished. You sighed heavily and Chelsea took the packet next and begun to read. “The violence of this penitentiary was legendary and nearly 2,000 people died on-site.” She handed the packet over to you and you sighed before starting to read. “One inmate firebug johnson was kept in the dungeon cells of housing unit 4 for 17 years after he started a fire that killed four fellow inmates.” you stopped and looked up from the page in disbelief.  “Can you imagine being locked in a dungeon isolation cell for 17 years?” Dakota asked. You could’ve cried, it was almost like you could feel yourself locked away in pure darkness completely alone. You were terrified to go to this location. “With no light, of course, you’re going to go absolutely crazy,” Tanner said. “I have never heard that at any penitentiary before,” Chelsea added. “And it gets worse. Trust me.” Dakota said. Your muscles became tense once again and Tanner noticed that this wasn’t going to be good for you at all. He was honestly scared for you, he knew you were strong but you needed him to be there for you more than ever and he would be.  “Forty death row inmates were executed here, most in the gas chambers that are still on the grounds today.” Chelsea read. “Gas chambers!” you exclaimed“I didn’t know that was a thing in the U.S.” Alex revealed. “No,” said Dakota. “I really didn’t,” Alex said. “That is disgusting,” Tanner stated. You grabbed the packet that chels handed over to you. “In 1953, the prison had the notorious distinction of executing a woman, Bonnie B. Heady. Putting her and her partner, Carl Hall to death at the same time. They had kidnapped 6-year old Bobby Greenlease the son of a multi-millionaire auto dealer and demanded 600,000 dollar ransom for his safe return.” you finished. You were disgusted completely by these people. “Why write a ransom if you’ve already killed the son?” Chelsea asked. “You know it’s hard to feel bad for those types of people when they do something so horrific like that,” Tanner said and you nodded. Continuing on you read, “It’s said that Bonnie’s soul is still contained inside the gas chambers to this day.” you finished with a slight tremble of fear in your voice. Tanner kissed your temple before squeezing you tightly. Dakota takes the packet and furthers into the hauntings. “Haunted accounts.” he starts. “The prison has immense paranormal activity, and many claim it was haunted even while it was still in operation. Since it closed in 2004, the activity has increased tenfold,” he said. They all noticed how uncomfortable you looked. They had no idea why it was affecting you so badly this time because it never did this much damage to you before. They were worried. “You ok (y/n)?” Alex asked the question everyone had on their mind. “Oh, um yeah. It’s all just incredibly disturbing you know. It’s just hard to think about.” you explained to them. Not wanting them to know what the exact truth was. “You sure?” Tanner asked and moved a stray hair out of your face gently as you looked up at him. “I promise,” you assured. You let Dakota continue. “The most active areas include Housing Unit 1. People report seeing full apparitions of female prisoners walking into cells. Intense class A EVP’s have also been captured. Including one that said ‘somebody cut me apart’. Your eyes widened in surprise. “What?” you asked in fear. “Alright, Tanner,” Dakota said and passed the packet back to his friend. “The gas chambers, a woman’s voice can be heard softly speaking. Many believe it’s Bonnie Heady. She’s been heard whispering ‘love’ to those who enter.” he read. “Who else would it be?” Dakota queried. “And she was executed with her boyfriend, so it’s almost like she’s talking to her boyfriend or searching out for him,” Tanner explained his thoughts.Chels took the packet next. “The dungeon Cells!” she exclaimed. “Yep” her brother confirmed. “Otherwise known as solitary confinement, located in Housing Unit 4, people report having their hair tugged, their ankles grabbed, and being viciously scratched. Menacing entity resides here appearing with half a face next to visitors and transferring his distress and pain onto them until they are so overwhelmed they flee the area.” she continued. “What the fuck Dakota?” you sighed heavily and shook your head. “I know, it’s insane,” he said. Chelsea hands the packet to you and you take a deep breath before reading. “3d Punishment Cells. These are the basement solitary confinement cells for Housing Unit 3, and many people refuse to be down here alone. The energy is very unsettling and violent.” you read. “Ok screw that,” Tanner interjects. You nod aggressively in agreement with your boyfriend. “There is also an 8-foot tall shadow figure sometimes the figure becomes a full apparition that opens its mouth and silently screams until they leave.” you read in disbelief. Your heart starts racing at the thought of being alone down there completely in the dark. You grab Tanner’s hand and interlace your fingers to try and find some sort of comfort. He rubs his thumb on the back of your hand in soothing figure eights. “Yeah,” Dakota said. “Are you kidding me?” Tanner said incredulously. “That’s just creepy,” Dakota spoke up. You glare at him. “That’s out of a damn nightmare Dakota!” you practically shout. They all look at you in surprise at your tone of voice. Dakota could tell you were especially uneasy and began to feel a bit bad, but it had to be done. He didn’t know you were going to react this way, he couldn’t do anything about it now. Tanner squeezed your hand in an attempt to calm you down. He knew you were scared and it hurt him to see you this way, you’d never reacted this way before. You looked up at him with a glint of fear in your eyes and he tugged you closer so you could lean against him. You sighed and shook your head before going completely quiet. Everyone tried to shake off your little outburst and Chelsea spoke up to ease some tension and get the attention away from you, she could tell you felt bad and wanted to make your feelings lessen. “Dakota, you don’t have the best track record with prisons.” She said to her younger brother. “No, I don’t. I do not like prisons. They scare me more than any other location. And this one could get the best of us.” He said. “This is going to be difficult,” Tanner stated. Everyone nodded in agreement. “Well, you guys it’s time to wrap this up and get some rest for tomorrow because God knows we’re gonna need it,” Dakota spoke before rising from his seat to get ready to head back to the RV. As everyone headed back you kinda hung back, your mind was racing and you knew for a fact that you would get absolutely no sleep that night. You had no idea you had stopped walking until you felt a hand on your cheek. Your eyes snapped up to see Tanner standing in front of you with worry clouding his eyes.  “Babe, I know you’re not ok. I know you’re scared, but we’ll be ok.” he tried to reassure you. You shook your head. “Tanner I don’t know if I can do this one. I really don’t know if I can,” you spoke up and placed your hand around his wrist. “I know it’s scary, but what else has you so worked up about this location?” he asked gently. Your eyes teared up and you sighed shakily. “It’s so dark. I know that it’s always dark and I know that you know I hate the dark, but something about this one is too much for me.” you began to explain to your boyfriend. He nodded his head in understanding letting you know he was listening to you. “People were locked in the dark for 17 years. They were locked in the dark until they completely lost their sight until everything in their lives went totally black. The history is so horrible and the hauntings are worse. An eight-foot-tall shadow figure, Tanner, I don’t think I can do this one. I don’t want to end up alone with that thing, and Dakota’s experiment. Fuck, those are never good, and especially at this location, I’m sure it’ll be even worse. I’m not ready for this Tanner.” you were crying now. Tears ran down your cheeks and your boyfriend wiped them away. His eyes held sympathy and worry, they also held understanding and love. “Oh, babe, I’m so sorry. I know it seems horrible, and it is honestly. I know how much the dark scares you, I know all of this information is hard to hear and horrifying to take in, but I promise that everything will be ok. I know you don’t feel ready for this, I know you don’t think you can handle it, but I know how strong you are. I know how brave you are, and look how far you’ve come, you have overcome so many of the things that you fear, and I know you haven’t conquered the dark yet but you will. Even if you don’t I’ll be right there next to you in it. You won’t be alone I swear. As for Dak’s experiment, I’m sure that it will be ok. I know it’s scary not knowing what will happen, but I promise I won’t let you go through more than you can handle. You’ll be ok.” he said and brought you into his arms. You let out small cries as you held tightly to him not wanting to let him go. He cradled your head to his chest and whispered words of encouragement. You pulled away from him just a bit so you could look up at him. Your eyes were puffy and red and mascara had stained your cheeks. “I love you Tanner.” your voice broke. He leaned down and pressed his lips against yours in a sweet kiss. You pressed up on your toes a bit and wrapped your arms around his neck while his arms weaved around your waist. He pulled away first and your feet landed flat on the ground again and your cheeks were flooded with heat as he lovingly looked down at you. “I love you too,” he said and kissed your head. “Now how about we go try and get some rest before tomorrow. I’ll protect you I promise, let’s go get some sleep,” he said and grasped your smaller hand in his to pull you toward the RV. you held his hand tighter and followed along.

You’re Shy- Tanner Wiseman x Reader
word count:1897
warnings: fluff, hurt feelings, sweet end
Summary: “You’re Shy”
Tumblr media
(gif not mine!)
You walked by Tanner with your arm looped through Chelsea’s he smiled brightly at you and you blushed and looked away. His smile fell not knowing why you wouldn’t look at him, he watched you and Chelsea walk away and sighed. “What’s up with you Tanner?” Alex asked. Tanner looked up at him and just shook his head. “She won’t even look at me, I mean she’s never been rude to me but she just avoids me like the plague. I don’t get it.” He ranted to him. Alex’s brows furrowed for a second before realizing who he was talking about. “She’s just shy man,  she’s never been great with people and being open. Don’t take it to heart.” Alex told him. “But, I say hi, and she whispers hello back and either goes completely silent or walks away as fast as possible.” Tanner explained to him. Dakota walked up to the boys and looked between them in confusion.”What’s going on?” he asked the boys. “(y/n) is just super shy around Tanner and he’s wondering why.” Alex explained. “Go talk to her Tanner, I’m sure she’ll listen especially if you tell her you need to to talk to her. She’ll get nervous and shy but she won’t walk away from that.” Dakota told Tanner.
Tanner looked over at him, “You sure?” he asked. Dakota nodded in confirmation.
“Alright, I guess I will. Wish me luck you guys.” Tanner said before taking a deep breath and starting to walk toward where you and Chelsea were sitting on a park bench.
“You’ve got this Tanner!” Alex called. Tanner smiled a bit at his friend’s encouragement.
You were sitting there on a park bench with Chelsea trying to get as much sun as you could before you had to go back on the road for a while. “I know you like Tanner,” you heard Chelsea say and your eyes widened. You looked at her, “What?” you asked quietly. “I know you have had a huge crush on Tanner for years and that’s why you get so shy around him.” she explained with a shoulder shrug and a grin.
You were becoming extremely flustered and didn’t know what to say to hide it. You sighed in defeat and covered your face with your hands in embarrassment. Chelsea chuckled and moved to grab your hands and pull them away from your face. “Hey, don’t be embarrassed. It’s so cute, you have to tell him!” she smiled brightly at you. “No, no way. I cannot tell him Chelsea. I cannot tell Tanner that,” you frantically stated.
“Can’t tell me what?” You heard Tanner’s voice from behind you. You immediately froze and Chelsea’s smile grew and she squeezed your hands. “She wants to talk to you about something,” Chelsea said for you and you looked at her in fear. “Really? I was just coming over to talk to her to,” Tanner explained in surprise.
“Yeah, here take my seat.” Chelsea said and got up and let go of your hands before giving your shoulders a squeeze to give you some encouragement. She then walked away and Tanner took the seat next to you.
“Hey Tanner,” you said softly. He looked at you with a smile after hearing his name fall from your lips. He rarely heard that unless you were on an overnight, his heart melted at how soft your voice was.
“Hi (y/n),” he said. “You wanted to talk to me? Did I do something wrong?” you asked shyly and fiddled with your fingers nervously. He looked at you in surprise, “What? No, no of course not.” he said quickly. You let out a sigh of relief at his words and nodded your head.
“Why would you think you did something wrong?” he asked in curiosity. Your eyes darted around trying to avoid Tanner’s gaze at all costs.
“I just-usually when people want to talk with me I jump to conclusions and get really nervous I’m sorry,” you apologized to him. “Hey, look at me, let me see you,” he said in a gentle tone. Your gaze is immediately fixed on the ground instead of darting around. He didn’t sound upset or angry, he sounded sweet and sincere. So, you decided to take a chance and look up at him, when you did you saw him smile and it immediately made your cheeks heat up.
“There you are,” he said and his words inevitably made you smile softly. “I just wanted to know why you won’t talk to me, you know. We’ve always been close, but like, it’s not the same as you are with everyone else,” he explained his feelings to you. Your eyes widened in surprise and your heart deflated knowing you had made him feel left out and like you didn’t want to be close to him when in reality you felt the exact opposite of that.
“I’m so sorry Tanner. I never meant to make you feel that way. I actually um- well I guess I should say this now.” you said and began snapping the hairband on your wrist in anxiety which was a bad habit that you had picked up when you were younger after seeing your mother do the same thing. She and your friends usually had to stop you from doing that so you wouldn’t hurt yourself.
Tanner reached over gently and grabbed your wrist to stop you from snapping the band against your skin. “Are you ok?” he asked you in concern. “Yeah, yeah, I’m ok. This is just hard to say cause I don’t usually do this kind of thing. I know I’m shy, I’m sorry if I ramble. Just stop me if I do ok.” you took a deep breath before speaking again. “Ok, I um- I stay to myself around you because I have feelings for you. I have for a long time now, and I just don’t know how to act. I get so shy and nervous. You just make me flustered and I get all clumsy and I don’t know really how to act. So, I’m really sorry that I ever made you feel like that.” you said and let out the breath you didn’t know you were holding.
Tanner looked at you in shock, and let out a surprised laugh. He was in disbelief and it made him laugh because he had no idea that you felt that way. You looked over at him and immediately your eyes filled with tears and your stomach filled with dread. “Why are you laughing?” you questioned shakily trying not to let yourself cry. He chuckled a bit, “It’s just funny,” he said and those words made the first few tears fall. You tried to cover your mouth to hush a cry before standing up and beginning to walk away as fast as you could. He saw you walk away and heard you cry and immediately got up and went after you. He was quick to catch up to you and he reached out to grab you but was immediately stopped by Chelsea. She looked at him in anger, “don’t.” she stated sharply. Tanner sighed heavily and watched Chelsea catch up with you. She immediately brought you into a hug, and you held her tightly and just cried. She stroked your hair comfortingly, and lead you away and back into the RV. The next thing he knew Dakota and Alex were standing in front of him with features that matched Chelsea’s anger. “What the fuck did you do?” Dakota questioned him.
Before he could answer Chelsea stormed out of the RV and marched over to him, “You laughed at her? You laughed at her when she told you that she had feelings for you? You said that it was funny!?” she seethed. Alex and Dakota looked at their best friend in disbelief.
“It’s not what I meant ok. It’s not what I meant, so just let me go fix it,” he said trying not to get angry.
“No, no way, I’m not letting you near her right now.” Dakota stepped in. “Yeah man, you’re not gonna talk to her right now,” Alex spoke up. Chelsea stood in front of him angrily. You could see in her posture how absolutely pissed she was.
“C’mon just let me fix this,” tanner pleaded. He looked at each of them with pleading eyes. “Let me fix it,” he said. Chelsea narrowed her eyes, “one chance Wiseman. One chance.” she threatened. He sighed heavily before quickly walking into the RV. He immediately heard you crying and cringed knowing he did that to you.
He walked to the back and saw you sitting on the bed crying. “(y/n),” he spoke. You immediately tried to stop your crying. “what ?” you asked shakily. “I’m sorry for laughing like that. I just thought it was funny because I feel the same way and I just didn’t know how oblivious I was.” Tanner explained. You looked up at him, your eyes were puffy, and your bottom lip still slightly trembled.
“You feel the same?” you questioned in confusion. “Yeah, yeah I do,” he said and tentatively moved closer to you. You let him move closer, “you could have just said so,” you said softly and looked away from him. “I’m sorry (y/n), it was just my reaction and I’m sorry about it. Can you forgive me?” he asked. You sighed heavily and nodded your head. He sat next to you and wrapped an arm around your shoulder, you tensed up and your breath hitched at the unfamiliar contact.
You turned to look at him finally and he smiled softly at you. His smile made you calm down a bit and relax in his hold. You smiled up at him shyly and he chuckled before leaning down to press a kiss on your head. Your cheeks heated up at the affection and you smiled even wider. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest at the sight of your smile, you were so sweet and kind and he was just in awe of the fact that you had feelings for him.
“Are you ok (y/n)?” you heard Chelsea say from the door. You chuckled a bit, “Yeah, everything is ok Chelsea.” you called to her. You heard everyone get in the RV and Chelsea’s footsteps, when she saw you guys a huge grin broke out on her face. You shyly looked away from her strong gaze, “You make her cry like that again and I’ll actually kick your ass,” She said and you let out a chuckle. “I wouldn’t expect any less,” Tanner said. “Hey, are you guys ok?” You heard Dakota and Alex call and they stood with Chelsea.”We’re pretty good honestly,” Tanner responded.
Dakota looked at you guys and just like his sister he grinned at the sight. “Oh,” he drew out the word, before he could say anything smart Chelsea turned around to push everyone back to the front of the RV so you and Tanner could have a bit longer.
“Ok guys, c’mon let’s leave them alone,” Chelsea said as she pushed the boys away.
“This is gonna be an interesting road trip isn’t it?” Tanner asked you and you looked up at him. “Yeah, it definitely will be,” you said before timidly leaning up to place a kiss on his cheek.

You Catch Each Other Staring-Alex Schroeder x Reader
word count:421
warnings: Fluff, more of a blurb, sorry guys
summary: You catch each other staring
Tumblr media
(random gif again sorry guys!)
You were sitting on the couch with your eyes fixed on the tv in front of you. You were watching the newest episode of the show curled up in a blanket. You never went on the road with them and so you always got excited when the episodes finally came out. Alex sat next to you and chuckled at how into it you were, he always found it funny when you jumped and hid under the blanket. He couldn’t help but stare at you as you watched, just thinking of how lucky he was.
He knew what was coming next and tried to hide the smile on his face. It was the Loftus Hall episode and the shadow behind Dakota was about to show up. He saw your fingers grip the blanket as hard as you could and your eyes go wide. “Holy shit, did you see that?” you asked and whipped around to face him to see him already looking at you. “Were you staring at me?” you asked and he chuckled. “I’m not surprised you didn’t notice seeing as how invested you were,” he shrugged and you shook your head. “It was getting good!” you defended yourself and he laughed.
“You’re mean, creeper,” you said and stuck your tongue out at him. “I’m not a creeper, I just like to admire my girlfriend that’s all. That’s not creepy at all,” it was his turn to defend himself and you rolled your eyes. “Sure,” you dragged out and gave him a small grin that you couldn’t hide.
He reached out and grabbed you, pulling you into his side. You let out a yelp at his sudden actions and chuckled when he painted your face with kisses. “You’re gonna be the death of me, I swear,” you joked and he chuckled. “I can proudly say the same,” he said and you smiled before leaning up to place a kiss on his lips softly.
“I guess you’re not a creeper, 'cause that would make me one too… I won’t lie, I stare too,” you said and hid your face in your hands. “No, c’mon don’t hide from me. I wanna see your pretty eyes,” he said and gently pried your hands from your face. “There they are,” he said and let his gaze linger for a while. Your gaze was just as unwavering as his before he leaned down and pressed a kiss on your forehead. “See, staring isn’t so bad is it?” he asked and you laughed softly. “I guess not,”

"One instinctive thing gets pointed out"-Dakota Laden x Reader
word count:1226
warnings: Fluff!
Summary: "One specific thing you do instinctively in your relationship until someone points it out"
Tumblr media
(gif not mine! again random sorry)
Dakota had been stressing out over the next road trip and so you had been trying to help him calm down for a while now. You were at home, sitting on the couch next to your boyfriend. “Everything is going to be ok Dakota, it’ll go great,” you said and placed your hand on his shoulder. He turned to look at you and you sighed heavily, he looked so tired and it really worried you. You let your fingers move into his hair gently running through it. He placed his head on your shoulder and you leaned over to place a kiss on his head.
“What if it’s not?” he asked softly. “It will be babe, you’ll have a great time and it’ll go really smoothly,” you said and continued to run your fingers through his hair.
“I wish you could come with us,” he said softly and sighed. “Me too, babe,” you said and let your head rest against his.
“How is your work going anyway?” He asked and moved to face you on the couch. You knew he cared but he also wanted to get his mind off of the trip for a while so you humored him.
“Well, it’s been busy. A lot of really good opportunities have come along, and I’m really excited. There is one I’m actually thrilled about,” you said with a big smile. “And what might that be?” he asked with a smile to match yours. “It may be silly to you but, someone is wanting an actual photoshoot for their dog. Their dog!” you exclaimed with a laugh. He chuckled at your excitement “I assume you took that opportunity,” he said and nudged you gently. “Of course I did. How could I ever turn down a dog? He’s so small and chubby, I couldn’t deny him,” you said and you could feel your cheeks start to hurt from how much you were smiling. Dakota laughed, “I can’t wait to see the pictures, what’s his name?” he asked.
“His name is Bubba, and he’s a dachshund. I already adore him,” you said and sighed happily at the thought of the cute animal.
“He sounds amazing,” Dakota said and you nodded enthusiastically.
He couldn’t help but look at you and just take in the fact that you made him so happy. He reached over to you and grabbed your waist pulling you onto his lap and holding you as tightly as he could. He leaned in and nuzzled his nose against your neck to make you laugh. In his success, he smiled and pulled away. “What are you doing?” you asked with a giggle. “I just love you, so I’m showing you,” he said and placed his hands on your waist. You leaned forward and rested your forehead against his. “I love you too Dakota,” you said and kissed his nose. You sat there with him for a while, just letting that moment sink in.
You always seemed to rest your head against his, or against his shoulder when you sought out comfort. He did the same, and it was just something done unconsciously that was such a small gesture. It was instinctive.
It was a few days later when you were hanging out with the boys, you could tell that Dakota was still stressed and it made you worry. You looked over at him with concerned eyes before he rested his head on your shoulder. You turned to kiss him and rest your head against his. He let out a heavy sigh and you grabbed his hand.
Alex looked over at you two and noticed your little habit had once again shown itself. He had begun to notice that Dakota was leaning on your shoulder a lot more than usual. So much so that it became something hard to ignore. He had noticed that you did the same thing, especially on days when one of you seemed off or stressed. He had picked up that it was a comfort thing and he really wondered if you ever noticed that you did it. He wondered if it was just something you did without thought when you needed each other.
Tanner had noticed it too and thought it was adorable. He knew that Dakota had been stressed and just to see him find comfort in a simple gesture made him happy for his friend. Finding someone that could do that for him.
“You ok Dakota?” Alex asked his friend. Dakota looked over at him in confusion. “Yeah, I’m fine why?” he questioned Alex’s question. “You’ve been resting your head against her shoulder a lot lately. It’s easy to tell that it’s sort of a comfort thing, so I just wanted to know if you were alright,” Alex explained. You and Dakota looked at him with confusion cloudy in your eyes.
“What do you mean?” you asked. “Well, it just seems instinctive for you to find comfort that way. Do you even realize it?” Tanner asked this time. “This is weird. Do we not realize what? That I rest my head on her shoulder?” Dakota questioned.
“You guys are so difficult sometimes,” Alex said and sighed. “Do you realize how often you do it? Is it something you think of doing or do you just do it?” he asked. “I guess it’s just something we do. I don’t really think about it, it’s just…” you trailed off and realized that they were right, it was like an instinctive comforting gesture. “It’s comforting,” you finished. “See, we told you! We knew it,” Tanner said and leaned over to high-five Alex. “You guys are really weird to notice that,” Dakota said and shook his head. “It’s kind of hard not to notice when it happens every five seconds,” Alex pointed out. “It does not happen that often and you know it,” you scolded them. “It totally does,” Tanner said under his breath, and you sighed.
You let your head lull to the side and rest on Dakota’s shoulder, once again seeking relief from the two teasing boys. “See, there! You just did it again,” Tanner quickly called attention to the affection once more. “Ok, no, I’m done with this,” you said and got up off of the couch to get some water. “What, where are you going?” Dakota called from his seat. “I’m getting some water, and by the time I get back I expect the subject to be dropped,” you said and pointed at them all with a stern gaze. Tanner and Alex rolled their eyes. “You guys just can’t keep things to yourself can you?” Dakota asked dryly. “It’s cute,” Tanner defended his outspokenness. “He’s right,” Alex agreed. Dakota rolled his eyes at his friends, “You two will be the death of me, I swear,” he said and shook his head.
Tanner was just about to speak again when they heard your footsteps getting closer. He swallowed his words, and the subject was put away before you stepped back into the room. You quietly sat next to your boyfriend and he kissed your head, “I love you, babe,” he said softly and you smiled gently. “I love you too,” you said and rested your head back on his shoulder.
That was the last of the topic, well, until a few months later when Chelsea just so happened to bring it back up.

(gif not mine)
You stood there getting everything together as your thoughts just raced, everything but the next few hours seemed to dissipate. Chelsea walked over to her brother, “Go talk to her, she’s clearly upset,” she told him and gently pushed him in your direction.
Your back was turned to him as you did your best to slow your mind down and keep it from wandering a darker path than it already was. All you could think about was your candle going out and having to be in the pitch black. Sitting in the dark not knowing what was around you, you know that every little sound will be amplified because of the nothingness that is going to be around you. Sure you’ll have your boyfriend but you’re determined to sleep just a little further away from him so that you might feel the slightest bit normal on the last overnight. Do you personally think it’s a good idea to do that? No, but will you do it for the sake of the fans and not letting your friends down? Yeah, yeah you would. Your aching seemed to be incessant, and your fear unrelenting. You felt tears come to your eyes and you covered your face with your shaking hands. You took in an uneven breath trying not to cry.  You felt something touch your arm, flinched harshly, and let out a yelp. Everyone turned to look at you.
“Hey, hey, it’s just me,” you heard your boyfriend’s voice. You shut your eyes tightly willing the tears to go away. “I didn’t know you were there, sorry,” you apologized before turning around with a smile on your face. It was one of the fakest smiles you have ever put on and it hurt just to keep the corners of your mouths slightly tilted upward. “You don’t have to be sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you,” he said and placed both of his hands on your arms gently. “Is everybody ready?” you asked, trying your best to get the attention off of yourself in fear that you would fall apart right then and there. “It’s ok if your not,” is how Tanner answered instead of a yes or no. “I’m fine, let’s go ok,” you kept your tone as steadfast as possible though they could hear the slight break that slipped out. You knew that Dakota was going to talk with you once you were alone and you dreaded it but you also couldn’t deny the fact that there was a part of you that needed him right now.
“Please be honest,” Chelsea pleaded. “I’m being honest, now let’s just go ok,” you said and removed yourself from Dakota’s grasp before picking up your things. Your hands, arms, and shoulders were sore and hurting as you carried your things. The group eventually dropped it knowing they needed to get on with the night. You all got to your sleeping locations and you being you and in the state, you were in had to walkie everyone to make sure they were ok.
Once you got your confirmation that everyone was indeed alright, you sighed and nodded your head. You were currently closer to the entrance than your boyfriend was seeing as you decided you wanted to be as separated as you could be for the last overnight. You hated the fact that you had only a god-forsaken candle as light, but you were glad to be treated equally and not once again have to bend the rules.
Dakota was unsure and very wary at the thought of letting you be so far from him, he wanted you safe and so he decided to check up on you. You heard footsteps coming down the hallway and you immediately jumped, almost falling off of your cot. You saw a familiar figure coming into view and sighed with relief. You weren’t ready to face the dark completely alone yet, and so it was a slight comfort knowing that your boyfriend was in fact in the same building as you, just down the hallway.
“Hey, babe, you ok?” he asked as he came to sit next to you. You sighed heavily but nodded anyway. “Yeah, I’m fine,” you answered trying not to let your fear show. “You know, I can tell when you aren’t telling the truth right?” he asked with a raised brow. Having two candles was much better than one you had to admit you wished you could keep his and have him stay with you. You were sure that if you asked he would, but you wanted to be brave, you needed to be.
“I really am fine,” you tried once again, but he shook his head. “I need you to be honest with me right now,” he stated firmly.
“Dakota, I’m being truthful,” you said. He sighed and shook his head, “No. you’re not. There is something obviously wrong, and I’d be stupid not to notice my girlfriend struggling. Tell me what’s wrong,” he said and grabbed your hands gently in his. You knew you couldn’t lie anymore, and in all honesty, you needed him right then. You let your shoulders sag and a deep sigh exits your lips. He looked at you with a look of concern as you slowly let your walls down.
“I’m sorry, I know I’m supposed to be brave right now, but it’s so hard,” you said shakily. He let go of your hands so he could carefully wrap his arms around your shaking figure. “You have no reason to be sorry, it’s ok to be scared, you have good reason to be,” he said and kissed your head. “I just, I’m in so much pain, and it’s not just physically my mind is racing just as fast as my heart is and I don’t know what to do. I don’t want my candle to go out, because then it’ll be completely dark and I don’t know what’s in the dark. All I know is that I am so scared,” you admitted to him with tears now gathered in your eyes and hanging from your lashes.
Having his arms around you made you feel protected and safe, and you never wanted that feeling to go away though you knew it had to eventually. “I’ll stay with you as long as you need me, and I promise I won’t let your candle go out. If it ever does I’m gonna be right here next to you, I won’t let anything hurt you. Why don’t you lie down and try to get some rest, I’ll be right here with you,” he said and gently moved you both around to find a comfortable spot. Once again his back was to the wall and your back was to his chest. You had his arms wrapped around your middle and his chin gently resting on your shoulder. You sighed at the feeling of yourself relaxing against him and your head turned to the side to press a kiss on his cheek. “You know, I can’t keep you here forever right?” you asked sadly. You felt him shake his head in disagreement. “I’ll stay right here forever, as long as you need me,” he said and placed a kiss gently on your shoulder. “I have to be brave though, I have to finish the trip right, and that means alone,” you told him. “Are you crazy? Do you think I’m letting you be here on your own? No, I’m staying here the rest of the night,” Dakota declared. “No, Dakota I have to do this on my own,” you told him firmly despite the fear that had a vice grip on you. “I don’t want to let you go, not right now,” he said and held you tighter.
“Believe me, I don’t want you to but please let me do this,” you said and glanced over your shoulder at him with pleading eyes. You tried to tug yourself away from him but his hold was tight enough to keep you in place without hurting you. “No,” you heard him say as he gently pulled you back to his chest. “Ok, you can stay here for a little while longer, but only a little while,” you said and let yourself lean against him once again. You swore you heard something down the hall and your head perked up. Dakota looked at you in confusion, “What’s wrong?” he asked. “Do you hear that?” you asked him and he listened before shaking his head. “No, I don’t hear anything,” he said and you reached to grab his hands in yours. “What do you hear?” he asked softly. You heard what sounded like feet dragging across the floor, and some soft scraping sounds. “It sounded like someone dragging their feet and scratching the walls,” you said as you felt a pit of fear form in your stomach.
“Something doesn’t feel right,” you said and clung to your boyfriend tighter. He kept a firm grasp on you. “Nothing’s gonna hurt you, I promise,” he said and rubbed the back of your hands soothingly. You wanted nothing more than for the night to be over. You shut your eyes and felt your chest get tight, hearing how loud those sounds were and how much they reminded you of Loftus Hall. The scratching at the walls was really beginning to scare you, as it brought back the memories of the same noise you heard only two nights ago.
“Something’s scratching at the walls, just like before Dakota, what if something followed me?” you asked and curled closer to your boyfriend. “It’s all ok, (y/n), nothing followed you, you’re ok. You’re with me now, and nothing can hurt you,” Dakota said softly and rested his head against yours. “This night won’t last forever and neither will this fear, I promise you that,” he said and felt you nod. “I just want it to stop,” you said and sighed warily. “It will,” he said and brought your hands up to place kisses on them. You have no idea how long you sat there with him just holding you but it felt like forever.
The scratching noises would come and go, getting louder as they went along.
All of a sudden Dakota’s walkie goes off.
“D-Dakota,” Chelsea came through. You let out a short yelp at the sound and curled further into your boyfriend’s embrace. Dakota jumped too and his grip got tighter for a second. (ok since it’s all pretty much static, I’m gonna make up some of his dialogue for this part, sorry)
“Yeah, go for Dakota,” he answered back quickly. Your eyes were wide with fear. “What’s wrong?” you asked.
“Dude my candle just went out next to me when I was laying in the bed,” Chelsea responded. Your mouth dropped slightly open at her words. “You need to come over here, can you please relight my light?” she asked frantically. You looked at your boyfriend with scared eyes. “Dakota you have to go relight it for her. She’s your sister, don’t do that to her,” you said trying to convince him to go light the candle for her once again.
He sighed, “I- but Chels, the rule is that we can’t relight it,” Dakota explained to Chels. You reached your foot out to kick his leg. “Ow, what the hell?” he asked and looked over at your stern face. “You go relight that light Laden,” you said with a serious tone, worried for your friend currently stranded in the dark.
“I can’t even hear you dude, please come over,” she sounded like she was on the verge of crying. Your heart broke for Chelsea at this moment. Dakota looked conflicted. “You better go over there right now, and relight that candle or so help me God-” you got cut off. “Alright, alright, let’s go,” he said and let go of you. “I’m staying right here, I’ll be fine I promise,” you said and gently nudged him off of the cot. “No way, I’m leaving you here,” he tried to argue. “Just go relight her candle, I’ll walkie you if I need you, just go,” you said and made a shooing motion toward him. He knew he had no time to argue and so he reluctantly lets you stay while he runs out into the night to relight his sister’s candle.
The moment he left you knew it was going to be difficult for you. This was the first time you had been alone since before the packet read, and you were terrified. Maybe you should have gone with him, but it was too late now. You already didn’t feel alone in the dark, the scratching sound had gotten louder and the shuffling got closer. You began to feel sick to your stomach, thinking about what lingered there. There were said to be three entities that would come together to form one. You felt the anxiety begin to settle in and images began to flash behind your eyelids every time you blinked. You could practically see these ‘entities’ every time you closed your eyes and you were horrified by them.
All of a sudden everything went completely dead silent and all you could hear was your rapid breathing. In a matter of moments, you had descended back to that place you were stuck in at Loftus Hall. You felt like everything was closing in on you, and something was just dying to break through the dim candlelight. You wanted to run out of there and find your boyfriend but you stayed where you were crippled by fear and anxiety. Though you weren’t sleeping in A-Block you felt as though the building was going to collapse on top of you, and you would be stuck there forever. You wanted nothing more than to be at home in your bed, not fearing that something was going to spring out of the dark at you, not fearing that you would hear terrifying whispers floating around you in the silence cutting through it like a knife.
Through the silence, you could softly hear something coming from down the hall opposite the entrance, and your heart started to race. Something was wrong and you could just tell, you could sense it. You curled your legs up to your chest and wrapped your arms securely around your knees. The noise sounded like whispers and it was starting to make your head dizzy as you focused too hard on your surroundings.
“Please stop, please stop, please stop,” you mumbled to yourself as you heard the voices get louder. You kept trying to block the noise out but it crept through every time. It now sounded like a full-fledged conversation, and you were absolutely horrified. “Go away, just go away,” you said louder this time with a quiver in your voice.
You felt as if something was taunting you, and you had no idea what to do. You just wanted it to all go away.
Something caught your eye down the corridor and you jumped immediately crowding yourself against the cold hard wall behind you. It seemed to move quickly and you were beginning to feel yourself lose control. Tears were already pouring down your cheeks, and soft sobs were wracking through you. You didn’t know what it was and didn’t want to know. Your eyes stayed glued down the dark hallway as you held yourself tighter praying that the night would end soon.
---
Dakota had relit Chelsea’s candle and was now on his way back to you. He was going as quickly as he could, not wanting you to be alone for longer than need be. He finally reached the building and walked inside.
What he found was heartbreaking. You sat there on the cot pressed tightly against the wall with your arms wrapped around your knees being held to your chest. He could see that you were shaking and could hear you crying.
“Damn it,” he muttered as he quickly made his way over to you. He set his camera down and gently placed a hand on your knee.
You cried out in fear and jumped as your head whipped around to face him. He could see that you had been crying for a while now and his worry was visibly etched across his face. You cried even harder when you realized it was him. “It’s just me babe, it’s just me,” he said and gently moved you so he could once again sit behind you. Once he was settled you burrowed yourself against him and let the tears continue to flow until they dried. He stroked your hair and placed a kiss on your head. “How do you not hear it?” you croaked as you moved your face so you could look at him. He looked at you in confusion. “Hear what?” he asked and moved a piece of hair from your face. “The voices, the shuffling and scratching, how do you not hear it?” you asked nervously. “That’s what you hear?” he asked in fear. You nodded your head sharply. “I saw something too, I swear I did. It was down the hall. I’m scared Dakota,” you said and grabbed his hands tightly in your own. He looked beyond shocked at your words. “You saw it?” he asked in disbelief. You just nodded your head once again. “I swear,” you said shakily. He let go of your hands to bring you closer to him. “You’re not staying alone for the rest of the night,” he told you and you sighed in relief. “C’mon we’re going to my spot, it may be better for you,” he said and began to get up. You looked at him with wide eyes at the thought of moving but you knew that you’d be ok as long as you were with him. He saw the look of hesitance in your eyes and his gaze softened. “I won’t let anything hurt you, I promise. I’ll take care of you remember?” he asked softly and looked into your eyes. You simply nodded your head before reaching up to wrap your arms around him tightly. “I love you, Dakota,” you whispered, “I love you too (y/n),” he replied and slowly pulled away from you.
“Grab your camera and candle, you can leave the rest here, my cot is enough,” he softly instructed you. You grabbed your things only then realizing you didn’t have a free hand to hold onto him. You didn’t necessarily need it, but you wanted it, it’s what made you feel safe. Your heart started pounding and you just had to stay as close to him as you could without being clingy. Dakota noticed the tension in your shoulders, “What’s wrong?” he asked softly. “It’s just that I don’t want to lose you, what if we get separated somehow?” you explain your fear. “C’mere,” he said and lifted his arm that held the camera and slung it around your shoulders. He already knew that the camera footage and angle were going to be shitty but in that moment he didn’t care, he just wanted you to feel safe. “I won’t let go,” he said and gave you a gentle squeeze not wanting to irritate your already sore shoulder.
You began your walk to where Dakota’s spot was located and as you made your way there you did your best to block out every other sound than his breathing. The faint talking had slowly begun to cease, and the figure had seemed to disappear. Which in all honesty made you even more nervous. You reached his cot and set your things down before sitting on it. It wasn’t until you had finally settled against your boyfriend that you realized where you were. You were only feet from that room with desk covered in candle wax and nails. You quickly turned away from that direction and buried your face in his sweater. Dakota’s eyes were wide with concern as you seemed to cower away. He looked around and saw nothing, “Babe, what’s wrong? What happened?” he asked trying not to panic.
“There’s a room over there, that Alex, Tanner, and I walked into earlier. It just scared me that’s all. I’m sorry Dakota,” you apologized and moved slightly away from him. He felt you move but pulled you right back. “You have nothing to be sorry for, I’ll protect you ok, you’re safe with me,” he reminded you. You just leaned toward him and rested your head on his shoulder. Letting him be your safe-guard. He wrapped his arms around you and rested his head on yours.
You sat there with him for who knows how long just trying to keep calm. Your body was exhausted and so after a certain amount of time you began to close your eyes. Your body was aching and your mind was foggy with sleep. Dakota noticed this and kissed your head softly. “I’m right here, try and get some sleep,” he whispered and you just nuzzled against his sweater.
What felt like seconds later a loud bang caused you to spring up and let out a scream. Dakota jumped as well, “What is that?” he asked nervously. He held tightly to your waist, making sure to not let go. “It almost sounds like a freakin’ drum,” he stated . You sat there with fear swimming your (e/c) eyes. Your heart was in your stomach at this point, knowing it had come from the direction of the room. “Hello,” Dakota called down into the dark hallway. “Dakota, don’t,” you said with a quiver in your voice. “Is there somebody down the-” he was cut off by the banging starting again. You felt tears spring to your eyes as you moved closer to the edge of the cot. You began to cry and covered your mouth tightly not wanting the sound to come out.
“What the fuck is that?” Dakota questioned quickly getting up from his spot. You quickly reached for his hand. “Dakota, stop,” you said louder this time. He could hear the shake in your voice and he paused. “Everything will be fine, I’ll be right back,” he told you before kissing your forehead. “Please don’t go over there,” you pleaded again. “I’ll be right back I promise,” he promised before grabbing the candle and his camera, and walking down the hallway.
Before you knew it another bang sounded and your boyfriend freaked out, “Oh my god, oh my god. It’s coming from this fucking room,” he said frantically. Your heart leapt into your throat as you called out to him. “Dakota!” you shouted. “I’m ok!” he called back and your heart slowed the slightest bit. You saw him open the door and just stand in the doorway for a few seconds. “Is there somebody in there?” he questioned before walking in. You shook your head, and shut your eyes tight not knowing what could be in there or not. You knew it wasn’t anything good, and that’s what scared you the most. But for the sake of your boyfriend you slowly got up and walked down the hallway. Your fear for his safety overcame your own as you entered the room. “Dakota,” you said softly and walked over to him. “It’s just like some kind of dormitory, let’s just go back to our sleeping arrangement,” he said and grabbed your hand before pulling you out of the room. You were thankful you didn’t stay in there long. He ushered you ahead of him and quickly got situated again, though you weren’t relaxed one bit, you were wide awake and horrified.
“I hate that it’s coming from down there too because that’s the only part I really can’t see anything.” Dakota explained. You hummed in agreement before tucking your legs to your chest and resting your head on your knees. “I don’t want to be here anymore,” you said quietly hoping no one would hear you. To your dismay your boyfriend heard you loud and clear. “It’s almost over, just a little bit longer and we can go,” he said and ran his fingers over you hair soothingly. Another bang sounds and you instantly let out a cry, your shoulders began to shake and you felt your boyfriend jump as well.
“Okay, fuck that, we’re out of here,” he said and grabbed his walkie. All you could do was sit there it’s like you were paralized by your fear. “We’re done, we’re actually done,” he said and moved to the edge of the cot. He put his arm around your shoulders and pulled you closer to him.
“Yo, Chelsea,” he walkied his sister. “Hello,” he got in response. You continued to shake in his arms, small cries coming from you every now and then. “Did you just like throw something on my building?” he asked her in a panic. “No, I’m sitting next to my candle in my bed I have not moved,” she answered him. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He placed his head on the back of your shoulder, “Don’t cry babe, it’s ok, we’ll be ok. It was just a noise, it’s ok, I’m here,” he comforted you and you reached up to grab his arm that rested around you. Desperate for that security he always provided.
“I don’t know what that was, that was a huge noise,” he said as he lifted his head. “Hello?” he called out once again and you sighed shakily. “I’m not even gonna go back down there, we’re both scared stiff,” he spoke.
You sat there in that position almost unmoving for quite some time, before he got you to lean on him again. Your eyes were red and puffy with slight mascara smudges underneath them. Nothing happened the rest of the night though both of you were on high alert until the sun came up.
“Let’s go babe, our time is up,” he said softly and kissed your cheek. You just nodded your head. You said nothing as you gathered your things and made your way out of the building. When the fresh air filled your lungs you took a deep breath and felt your shoulders relax when the sun hit your skin. You felt like that weight was lifted off of your shoulders. A small smile was placed on your lips as you saw your friends come out safe. Dakota looked over at you and smiled to himself. He was so proud of you, but he also knew there was a long way to go, to get you back to where you were before this. He knew it would take a while but he swore he would do anything to help.
You felt a kiss being placed on the back of your head and you smiled. “HI,” you said softly as you turned to face your boyfriend. “Hey, babe,” he said and reached up to hold your face in his hands. “You know, that I’m going to be here every step of the way right? I’m always-” you cut him off. “Going to take care of me, I know,” you said and rested your hands over his. He leaned down and pressed his lips to yours, your arms slowly moved their way around his neck, effectively pulling him closer. He broke away from you and rested his forehead against yours. “I love you Dakota,” you said “I love you too (y/n),” he responded and kissed you one more time.
“Hey, what about us?!” you heard Tanner call. You pulled away and chuckled. You walked over to the group and opened your arms, they all walked over and wrapped you in a group hug. “I love you guys too, so so much,” you said. “We love you too (y/n),” they answered together. You chuckled at their unison.
You all pulled away and you smiled at them widely. “I never got to thank you for being here for me. I know I’ve been really messed up but you were patient with me and I can’t thank you enough for that,” you thanked your best friends. “We’ll always be here for you, and we know you’d be here for us just the same,” Tanner said.
“You know what, I think it’s time we wrap this up. Let’s go film our monologues and get the hell off of this Island,” you said and chuckled a bit. “Let’s go,” They all said and you went your separate ways.
You found a nice spot to sit and pulled out your camera to record.
“A location like this was definitely one to end on. You know, it really made me realize that leaning on the people you love for support isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Without them, I wouldn’t have been here, and honestly without them I don’t think I’d ever do this again. This was the most challenging road trip to date, and honestly, I’m proud of us all for making it. And if you’re wondering if our journey is over, believe me it’s far from it. This isn’t the end for me, I’ll see you next time. “
You finished your monologue and sighed heavily before getting up from your spot. Noticing that your boyfriend was still in the middle of his you went to stand by your friends. “I can’t wait to take a fucking nap,” you breathed out and everyone laughed out loud and agreed. “I think we all deserve it,” Chelsea said and you nodded your head. “Definitely,” Alex said and you smiled while leaning against him.
Dakota looked over at you and smiled at the sight of you with the group. You looked happy, and that was one of the best sights he could ever dream of seeing.
Looking at you he just knew that things would be ok. With the people you loved supporting you you’d heal.

Spike Island pt.5-Dakota Laden x Reader
word count:2444
warnings: anxiety and nervousness, very short chapter. so sorry guys I have been incredibly busy lately and haven't been able to write very much!
summary: Based on season 3, episode 16 of DF. so all credit to the crew, the show, and the channel. sleeping arrangements are made, and Dakota's plan is unveiled.
Tumblr media
(gif not mine!)
You shivered as you walked back to the gear room, and Dakota could feel you shake while you held his hand. “You’re shaking,” You heard him say and you looked over at him, “I’m just cold that’s all,” you told him, though it wasn’t the full truth it would do. Your body was tired from being pushed so much and you were beginning to struggle against the cold.
“I didn’t think it would rain, you know,” you said and let out a shaky sigh. “Well, hopefully, it’ll stop soon and we can warm you up a bit, how are you feeling?” He asked. “I’ve been better,” you told him. “But, I’m ok right now,” you followed up. “Honestly,” he tried to coax it out of you knowing that you wouldn’t tell the truth in hopes of not letting him worry. “I’m being honest, I promise,” you tried. “I know you too well,” he said and looked at you with those thoughtful eyes you could never lie to.
“Just, don’t want to move anymore, my body is working against me right now,” you admitted to him. He wouldn’t have been able to hear you if you weren’t so close to him.
“It’ll be over soon, and then you’ll get to rest for as long as you’d like. I promise I’ll take care of you,” He promised you and leaned over to kiss your head.
You all entered the gear room and were preparing for the last few hours of the overnight.
“We believe that when you’re alone, you’re much more scared which in turn brings out the paranormal activity,” Dakota explained as usual. “We’ve all agreed on the four scariest locations for us to go sleep,” he said.
Your brows furrowed, “Wait, why only four?” you asked. You knew that they would keep an eye on you tonight but you didn’t expect them to bend the rules for a second time just for you. Sure, you were scared but you didn’t want things to change just for your sake.
“Cause, we aren’t letting you be alone, not this time,” Chelsea explained. “I’m not bending the rules again,” you told them and they sighed. “We just want you safe,” Dakota tried to tell you. “I know, but you guys won’t always be with me and I’m gonna have to be alone at some point no matter how much I don’t want to be,” you told them. “Even if we let you, there are really only four places for you to be and there are five of us, so it’s inevitable right now,” Tanner said. You sighed heavily and shook your head. “It’s ok to not be alone,” Chelsea said and placed her hand on your shoulder. “I just want to end this right,” You told them. “You’re here aren’t you? After everything that happened you’re here, I think that’s right enough,” Dakota told you. You looked at him with an unsure gaze and he just nodded at you. “It’s ok,” he assured you.
“Ok, but this is the last time,” you said with a heavy sigh. You were embarrassed about it, but you knew it was four against one and you would just have to deal with it. “When the locations are drawn you can choose who you go with ok,” Dakota said giving you the freedom to choose who you spent the night with.
“Yeah, ok,” you said and wrapped your free arm around yourself in order to stave off the cold negativity the prison seemed to send your way.
“Ok, so as I was saying: we’ve all agreed on the four scariest locations for us to go sleep. First, we have the A-B Block. Then we have the A Block, whoever gets this, they will be the first to see it, and A Block is in such bad condition that whoever gets that one, they have to sleep in a hard hat. Then we have the Punishment Block. For our final sleeping arrangement, we have the tunnels,” Dakota announced and you cringed, not wanting to choose any of them, especially not the tunnels. You knew for a fact that you weren’t going to choose the A Block, mainly because t was falling apart but also because there was only one hard hat. You were just nervous overall. You wanted nothing more than to feel safe and currently, as you had to decide where to go you didn’t.
“So, Tanner is going to write those out on a piece of paper, then we’re gonna draw and that’s where you go sleep for the night,” Dakota finished explaining. Tanner quickly scrawled the locations onto pieces of paper while you stood off to the side trying to calm yourself down.
Dakota walked over to you and placed his arm around you. “You do know that you can stay with me right? No one will care, they probably expect it,” he said and you rested your head on his shoulder. “I know,” you breathed out shakily. You closed your eyes as you reveled in the warmth he provided. “I just want to be brave,” you told him sadly. “You are brave, just being here is you being brave. You don’t have to prove anything to anyone. All of us including the fans know how much of a fighter you are, and even the bravest people have to take a step back sometimes, and that’s ok. Don’t feel embarrassed for not sleeping alone this time. No one will think any less of you. You’ll be ok, everything will work out,” he said and held you tighter. You nodded your head, “Thank you, Dakota,” you said and leaned up to kiss his jaw. “You never have to thank me,” he said and let his arm slide down to rest around your waist instead of your shoulders.
Tanner finished writing and stuck the papers in the bag for them to choose from.
“Alright, who wants to draw first?” Dakota asked. Everyone just silently looked at him before Alex lifted his arm to point at him. “Me?” Dakota asked with raised brows.
He took a breath and rubbed his hands together nervously obviously hoping for the best. You were of course worried for him, as you were for everyone. Choosing sleeping locations always made you nervous despite yourself not showing that fear. You never wanted to show such fear over what seemed to be a tame task to some people. You were terrified most of the time and did well at hiding it at most locations, you tended to be one of the people who stuck out the harsh ideas with almost no complaints.
Right now it was clear that you could see the fear in your eyes. You knew you wouldn’t be able to hide it this time and you just had to accept that.
Dakota stuck his hand in the bag and fished out a paper. “I hope you get the tunnels,” you heard Alex laugh. That’s the spot you were most worried about and you wouldn’t want any of them to get it if you had the choice. Your boyfriend unfurled his paper and announced his location, “A-B Block,” he told everyone. You felt your breath hitch for a second knowing he got the one you would most likely have chosen if you had the choice. Not liking the sound of the Punishment Block despite having been in the A-B Block before and not having a great experience there. . “I’ve never been there, I don’t know what to expect,” he said and you shook your head, remembering how it made you feel but betting it was better than the Punishment Block.
“I think Alex should draw next,” Dakota said and you rolled your eyes. Chelsea began chanting for him to get the tunnels and you shook your head. You were scared for any of them to get the tunnels, Al and Chelsea always seemed to have the worst luck and it never sat right with you. You just wanted everyone to be safe, and you knew on these overnights that you weren’t always going to be, especially being alone.
Alex dug around in the bag before pulling out a piece of crumpled paper. Your hands shook and ached as you held your camera tighter in your hands.
“Ah, no dude!” Alex shouted in disappointment. He showed his paper and your heart stopped for a second. He got the tunnels, and your heart ached for him knowing that he would be alone in the dark winding corridors that seemed to go on for miles. You didn’t want any of them to go there, and of course, it just so happened to be Alex who had to go. You heard the group laugh, and you shut your eyes tight. You weren’t gonna laugh or joke you were too on edge, your stomach began to turn at the thought of him sleeping alone down there. You desperately didn’t want him to go.
“How do you always get those?” Dakota asked in amusement. “I don’t know,’ he said in frustration. “You wanna trade?” Alex raised his voice. “No!” Dakota exclaims. You felt your nerves begin to kick in even more seeing as someone else had to draw now. “Alright, Tanner you draw next,” Alex spoke up again. You shifted your weight uncomfortably. “Okay,” Dakota agreed. “Alright,” Tanner said and got ready to draw. You hear Chelsea giggle and you cringed just wanting it to be over now. He grasped his paper and unfolded it, “A Block, great!” he shouted and you sighed once again feeling your stomach churn. He had to sleep in a building that was absolutely falling to pieces. This wasn't safe at all and you were not happy.
“A Block, you get to wear a hat!” Dakota exclaimed. “I get to wear my hat!” Tanner exclaimed in mock enthusiasm. “Yeah!” Alex shouted. “Fantastic!” Tanner raised his voice sarcastically.
You reached out to grab whoever’s hand was closest and it just so happened to be Alex’s. He looked down at you in confusion as he took your hand softly. He could practically feel the anxiety and fear radiating from you. You wanted nothing more than to say something to make it all stop but you knew you had to let it happen. It was just how these trips always went and you had to become okay with that again.
“We haven’t been there before and now I might get hit in the head with rocks,” Tanner broke you out of your little anxiety-induced daze. Alex kept glancing down at you in worry, “You ok (y/n)?” He asked softly. You looked up at him after hearing his voice. “Yeah, just a bit nervous, sorry,” you said to him and almost let go of his hand in fear of bothering him but he didn’t let go of yours. “Everything will turn out ok, only a few more hours,” he said and nudged you gently. You gave him a tight-lipped smile and nodded. “Ok,” you said and leaned against his arm.
“Chelsea’s got the punishment block,” Dakota announced and you let out a shaky sigh. She grabbed the last piece of paper from the bag and shook her head. ‘I did not expect to return here. “This is going to suck,” she said, “Yeah,” her brother agreed with her. You rolled your eyes at him. “(y/n), where are you staying?” your boyfriend asked. “I’ll stay with you,” you said quietly once again nervous about the judgment you may receive for choosing to stay with him. “Alright, that’s settled then, you’ll be with me,” he smiled at you, and you smiled shyly back. “Also, you guys,” He spoke up again and your heart dropped. You knew it wasn’t going to be anything good. “What do you mean ‘Also, you guys’ ?” Chelsea questioned in frustration already knowing it was going to suck. “Also?” Alex asked in disbelief. “You can’t do ‘also, you guys’,” Tanner said. “What is it this time?” you asked in annoyance trying to keep your voice from shaking too much.
He looked over at you with an apologetic gleam in his eyes. You just knew it was going to be bad, and that was probably one of the reasons he was so dead set on you not being alone. “Instead of sleeping tonight with flashlights…” Dakota began, “No!” Chelsea quickly butt in. “We are going to be sleeping with candles,” he finished. You stared at him with wide eyes, before letting go of Alex and turning around. You shut your eyes tightly and took a deep breath.
You were scared to turn around because you knew you would have to face anything else he had to say.
“What?! That’s not going to be enough light,” Tanner expressed loudly. “Exactly,” Dakota confirmed. “This is about amplifying the fear. Intensifying the fear, by replacing our flashlights where you can clearly see down a hallway with a candle where you can hardly see five feet in front of you.” you felt yourself begin to tremble again as you turned back around once again reaching for Alex’s hand. He graciously held your hand as tightly as he could without disturbing your injuries. He felt you shaking and decided to just put his arm around your shoulders instead.
You let yourself lean gratefully against your friend as your boyfriend continued on with his terrible plan. “But you only get one light. Once you get to your sleeping arrangement we will light the candle and you better not let it go out because I’m the only one with a lighter,” He ended his explanation. By this time you were shivering continuously and your heart was in your stomach. You felt sick, “Great,” Tanner stated sarcastically. “Let’s do it, let’s get out of here,” Dakota said. “Hey you guys, if I don’t show up in the morning, that’s probably because the building fell on me,” Tanner tried to joke but it just made your fear worse because though it seemed crazy things like that where he was going could be a real possibility. “But, no, dude you have a hard hat,” Dakota reminded him jokingly. “Oh, I have a hard hat. I should be perfectly fine over cave-ins,” Tanner once again commented sarcastically.
You gathered your things and sighed heavily as you thought of the night ahead of you. You did not want to do this, especially with what Dakota was having you do. Despite being with him you knew you were going to have a hard time. Your fear of something lurking in the dark was going to amplify tonight and you weren’t ready to face it.

you’re shy- Dakota Laden x Reader
word count:1755
warnings: fluff!
Summary: “You’re shy”
Tumblr media
(not my gif!)
“Hey, (y/n),” Dakota said and smiled softly at you. You gave him a small smile before promptly sitting in the corner furthest from him with your nose buried in a book. His smile fell at your actions, he didn’t know if he had done something to upset you but you weren’t as warm with him as you were with the others.
You were shy, he knew that, but he just didn’t understand you weren’t very open to him. You sat on the couch in the RV and hid behind your book, slightly cringing at the interaction you just had with Dakota.
You had always had a huge crush on him, but you were much too shy to do anything about it, so you stayed a good distance from him. Hoping that the feelings would leave you alone. But of course, they didn’t. They got even worse, you were pretty sure you were falling in love with him and you knew that if you let your guard down with him you would fall even faster and harder.
You were honestly scared and had no idea what to do.
“So, how are you? I know the last location was pretty rough for you,” Dakota tried to start a conversation. You weren’t used to this and so you became flustered. You nervously set the book down and tried to calm the heat in your cheeks. You were blushing and nervous, you fiddled with your fingers and twisted the rings on your fingers in anxiety. “I’m fine. Just a rough time like you said. I um-I guess I’m ok you know.” you finally got out after a few seconds of silence. He looked at you and sighed. Your eyes went wide at the sound of his sigh, believing that he was somehow upset with you. “I’m sorry-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you, Dakota,” you rambled out.  He looked at you in shock at your words, he noticed that you had curled more in on yourself. “Wait, wait, wait. I’m not upset with you. Why would I be upset?” he asked softly, hesitantly moving toward you. You sat there in silence for a few seconds not knowing how to respond to that very well. “I-uh-I don’t know. You just sighed really heavily and I thought I may have upset you,” you said shyly, doing your best not to look at him.
His heart ached at your words, he had no idea why you acted this way around him and he was so confused. “I’m not upset with you at all. I do wonder why you won’t speak with me though. You’re so open with everyone else and it just seems like you kind of shut me out.” he finally explained his feelings to you. Your heart dropped at his words you had no idea you were hurting him. You cringed and sighed shakily.
“I don’t mean to seem so cold. I’m just so shy, especially around you and so I get really nervous and don’t know how to open up,” you told him truthfully, not wanting to lie to him at all. His eyes widened in surprise, “Why are you so shy around me? Is it something I did?” he asked in confusion. “No, no, it’s nothing you did. I just…” you trailed off, not knowing how to express your feelings because you knew you had to. You couldn’t get around this and make excuses because if you did guilt would eat at you and you’d end up caving anyway.
You wrung your hands and he sat there patiently waiting for your response. He could see how nervous you were and sat across from you, still keeping some distance but wanting to be close to you. “Hey, take your time ok. I’m not here to pressure you,” Dakota said comfortingly and you felt the slightest bit of relief at his words. Dakota always made you feel like you were safe with him, so if you were split up with him during locations you always felt protected. Even him saying that just now you felt safe and unjudged.
You took a deep breath before closing your eyes getting ready to admit your feelings to him with full knowledge that you could be completely rejected.
“The reason I’m so shy around you is that I really like you, Dakota. I am falling for you and I’m so scared of it. I’m scared to share my feelings and open up because I don’t want to get hurt and I’m just so shy and I’m so sorry.” you rambled out really quickly. He looked at you with wide eyes but you didn’t see them because still, you refused to open your eyes. Your eyes were still closed and the silence was killing you. After a while you began to get up from your spot, ready to walk away from him with tears in your eyes.
“I’m falling for you too and I have been since the moment I met you,” Dakota said and your heart stopped. you immediately sat back down and carefully let your eyes flutter open. You looked over at him shyly to check his features for any signs of dishonesty.
“What?” you question softly. “I love you,” he told you flat out. “I love you, and I want to know you, I want you to open up to me. It doesn’t have to be now, but hopefully, in time you will,” he said with hopeful eyes. Your eyes were glassy and when he saw this he reached over gently to grab your hand. He took your shaking hand and interlaced your fingers with his.
“I won’t hurt you, I won’t let you get hurt. And it’s ok that you’re shy, I think it’s sweet, but you don’t have to be with me,” he told you and tentatively placed a kiss on your hand. Your cheeks flushed immediately and h smiled at the effect he had on you.
“We can fall together?” you asked softly. He smiled brightly at you. “Together.”
---
It had been a few months since you and Dakota had begun dating and things were actually going very well.
You were opening up more, and so here you were sitting in your room at home with Dakota next to you. The TV was on and one of your favorite movies was playing, he just looked at and how enthralled you would get with it. He’d seen the movie before but each time he saw it with you it never failed to make his heart melt. You would mouth some of the lines sometimes and he had to hold back from chuckling, he thought you were adorable.
You were leaning back against the pillows and he had his arm around your shoulders pulling you closer so you could lean more into him. You were still shy, but getting better around him, you had actually opened up more than he thought you would with him. He looked down at you and kissed your head. You looked up at him and smiled softly at his affection, and reciprocated with a kiss on the jaw.
“Can I ask you something?” he asked suddenly. You looked over at him with confusion on your features and the slightest bit of fear as well. “Yeah of course you can,” you told him.
“You know, you’ve done all of this opening up to me and still, I don’t know your favorite flower. So what is it?” he asked and moved his hand up to let his fingers gently brush the side of your face. You smiled brightly at his question.
“You want to know my favorite flower?” you asked. He nodded his head. “It’s a (y/f/f), they’ve always been my favorite they used to grow by my house and I would pick them every summer for bouquets or flower crowns for me and Chels,” you told him with a big smile at the memory attached to the beautiful plant.
He admired how beautiful you looked when you smiled like that, you didn’t seem scared or nervous, you just seemed soft and warm and sweet.
“You’re so beautiful,” he spoke. Your eyes widened, not expecting that from him and so you bashfully turned your gaze away. “Hey now, don’t look away from me. I wanna see those beautiful eyes,” he said and tried to coax you into looking at him again. You looked at him shyly and he leaned down to place a kiss on your forehead. When he pulled away you looked up at him and with some sudden surge of confidence, you sat up and got on his lap. You now had one leg on either side of him and your hands were holding his shoulders. He looked up at you in surprise but placed his hands on your hips. You looked down at him and you knew you had to do it before your confidence left you. You leaned down and pressed your lips against his, your hands moved from his shoulders and into his hair. His hands moved up to your waist and held you tightly. He sat up more so he could pull you closer to him. Your lips melded with his perfectly and he couldn’t help but deepen the kiss. He did it slowly wanting to make sure you had time to pull away, but you never did. He hummed against his lips and tilted your head a bit for a new angle. Soon the need for air is too much and so you pull away from him. Your cheeks are red and he can tell that you’re retreating into your shyness. So gently he placed his hands on your face to keep you in place and pull you back. “You don’t have to hide from me, why are you hiding?” he asked while stroking your cheekbone.
“I just don’t usually do that kind of thing. I’m sorry, it was really forward,” you told him timidly. He chuckled just a bit. “Don’t be sorry babe, that was perfect. It wasn’t too forward, it was amazing and if it’s alright I’d like to do that more often,” he said with a silly grin. You blushed even more and shook your head with a loving smile.
“I think that’s ok with me,” you said gently before slowly leaning back in to place another kiss on his lips. He smiled into the kiss before holding you closely, you followed suit, and just like that, you were overcoming yet another bashful fear.

Spike Island pt.3-Dakota Laden x Reader
word count:3713
warnings: language, fluff, anxiety, and nervousness
summary: Based on season 3, episode 16 of DF. so, all credit to the crew, the show, and the channel. You arrive at the prison and the night begins with you, Tanner, and Alex exploring A-B Block. then everything goes awry.
Tumblr media
(random again, gif not mine!)
You walked into one of the buildings to set up the gear room, and as you looked around you became very uneasy.
You were setting up when you felt hands on your waist. You smiled slightly at the feeling, knowing that it was your boyfriend you turned around to face him. He smiled down at you, “I didn’t tell you but you look really beautiful today,” he said and placed a hand on your cheek. You let out a chuckle, “You do realize that I’m in jeans and a hoodie right?” you asked with a raised brow. “Yeah, you’re beautiful,” he said and leaned down to press a kiss just above your raised eyebrow. “You also realize we’re in the middle of an abandoned building in the middle of an insanely haunted prison right?” you asked once again. “ That doesn’t matter, you know I’d tell you that you’re beautiful no matter where we are,” he said with a smile. You smiled shyly and looked away. “Hey, don’t hide that smile from me,” he said and gently turned your face back up so he could see you properly. You had no idea how he did it, but he always managed to pull you out of the space you were in and into your own little world with just him. Away from the haunts, the legends, and the dark.
He placed his other hand on the other side of your face and leaned down to kiss you softly. You reached up to wrap your arms around his neck to pull him even closer to you. You were completely immersed in him, and your fear was gone. You felt safe, and secure you didn’t feel the anxiety and worry, you just felt him and that’s exactly what you needed right then.
Dakota reluctantly pulled away from you and as he did he just felt you cling to him tighter. “Please don’t go yet, just don’t let go yet,” you said and moved your arms around his waist. He wraps you delicately in his arms so you can rest your head against his chest to feel his heartbeat. Just hearing his heartbeat was soothing and steady. It gave you one more thing to focus on instead of the fear. You pulled away after a moment and looked up at him with a small smile. Once again he placed his hands on your face, “Are you ready?” he asked while stroking your cheekbones softly. You nodded your head, “mmm-hmm,” you said and he leaned down one more time to kiss your head.
He gently tugged you outside along with the others, all of you getting ready for the last night of the road trip to officially start. You let go of your boyfriend’s hand and went to stand by Tanner so that Dakota could inform everyone of the plan he had for the night.
“We just set up our gear room in one of the abandoned buildings on the property. I think we should just start in groups right away,” He said and you nodded your head in understanding of his thoughts.
“Chelsea I’ll be going with you, to the punishment block,” Dakota said and pointed at his sister. You were a bit surprised but not completely worried seeing as you were going to be with Tanner and Alex who you were extremely comfortable with. You felt safe around them, therefore you were perfectly ok with being in their group without your boyfriend. “Tanner, Alex, (y/n), you guys will be going to A-B Block,” you nodded your head once again. “Ok, I’m cool with that if you guys are,” you said and looked back at the boys. “All good with me. You, Tanner?” Alex asked. “I’m cool with that,” Tanner said and you smiled at them both, grateful that they wanted you despite your condition. “Let’s do this you guys!” you crowed. “Yeah, A-B Block,” Tanner piped up. He bumped his fist against yours, and you repeated the action with Alex. “Nothing could go wrong there,” Alex spoke dryly. You looked at Dakota and smiled softly at him, and he smiled back. Before you went your separate ways he walked over to you.
“I wanted to send you with the guys cause I thought it might be good for you, you know. A good change,” he explained his actions. He thought you might be upset with him for it, “Dakota, you don’t have to explain to me. I’m excited to spend some time with the guys,” you told him softly. “You’ll be ok with them right?” he fretted. “I’ll be just fine. I feel safe with them, and they’ll take care of me they always do you know. Family takes care of family,” you told him with a sweet smile. He nodded his head, “Ok, as long as you’re ok,” he said and you leaned up to kiss his cheek. He stepped back from you and turned to find the other three in quiet conversation. “You all ready?” He asked. There was a chorus of yes’ and you chuckled. “I never am but here we go again,” you said and laughed dryly. “Why did I know you were going to say that?” Chelsea asked with a hand on her hip and a grin on her face. “Cause you’re my best friend and I’m pretty sure you own part of my mind,” you joked. They all laughed.
“Alright, let’s go,” Chelsea said as she and Dakota began to walk away. “Bye, guys,” Dakota bid you farewell as you went your separate ways. “See ya, be careful,” you called behind you. “You too,” Chelsea called back.
You walked with Alex and Tanner doing your best to keep the fear away. You didn’t want to ruin this for anyone, and you didn’t want to be a burden on the boys. “You doing ok (y/n)?” Tanner asked as he looked over at you. You smiled softly, “I’m ok right now,” you told him. “You let us know if anything starts to change ok,” Alex said and gently nudged your elbow. “I will, I promise,” you told them.
You looked around you and saw the buildings old and looming. They were beginning to make you nervous. You knew they weren’t empty by any means. They weren’t dead either, they were very much alive and that’s one thing that scared you so badly.
Alex and Tanner glanced at you as you stared at your surroundings. They shared a worried look and knew they would have to be on high alert that night.
Before you knew it you had arrived at A-B Block, “This is it,” Tanner said and you pointed your flashlight straight ahead at it. You had no desire to enter the building, thinking back on the packet read. You didn’t even want to be near it, but here you were with two of your best friends getting ready to investigate it. “Wow,” Alex said as he ogled at it. “I already hate this,” you expressed.
Tanner walked forward and placed his hand on the door handle turning it downward and pushing the door open. You could hear it squeak when it opened and the small high-pitched noise made you jump a bit. Alex and Tanner had decided to put you in the middle of them, not wanting you to wander away from them at any moment. “Woah,” Tanner let slip as he entered the building before you or Alex. You followed him in and immediately a feeling settled itself in the pit of your stomach. You didn't know exactly what the feeling was but you knew for a fact that it wasn’t anything good.
Walking through the building there was a feeling of heavy unease.  You felt like your anxiety was starting to worsen, and your fight for control with it was only making it worse.
The walk was quiet, and you tried to focus on your breathing as you wandered through the halls. Tanner suddenly stopped walking and just looked in one of the rooms. “Tanner, what is it?” you shifted your weight repeatedly. He just walked into the room and you followed with slight hesitance. “What is this?” he asked and shined his light on a side table that had nails sticking out of it accompanied by a candle and a hammer. The sight sent a shiver up your spine, you had no idea what it was or who could've done it and it was not good for your struggles right then. “I’ve never seen anything like this before,” you trailed off. “I haven’t either,” Alex said.
“Like, it’s candle wax everywhere and then nails sticking out the whole time,” Tanner described the scene. “Like, what’re we missing. I don’t get… it’s creepy,” he finished. “I have no idea. I don’t know what that means, but that’s really bizarre” Alex spoke. “It doesn’t feel right. It feels heavy in here. I’m getting really nervous you guys,” you told them truthfully.
A hand gently placed itself in yours, “Then let’s get you out of this room,” you heard Tanner say and felt Alex pull you out of the room. “What did it feel like? I mean do you need to get out of here or do you think you can keep going?” Alex asked you. “It was just very heavy. It was making me anxious. I can continue, just not in that room I’m sorry,’  you explained to the boys. “You have nothing to be sorry for (y/n), it’s not your fault let’s get you away from here,” He said.
Alex held your hand as you continued your walkthrough of the building. You felt like you shouldn’t be there and you were becoming more nervous, but you didn’t tell them because you didn’t want to cut this short. You didn’t want to be the reason for lost evidence, and so you sucked it up, you held his hand tighter and carried on.
Tanner stopped once again, “We do have some gear here. Do we wanna break out the REM Pod and ask some questions?” he asked and you looked up at Alex. he nodded his head. “Yeah, I think that’s a good idea” he agreed with Tanner. “Sounds like a plan,” you said and let go of Alex’s hand so he could get the REM Pod. He handed the REM Pod to Tanner and let him explain to everyone what it did and what it was for.
“Alright, so in my hand is the REM Pod. this is a device that is able to pick up electromagnetic fields. If something gets close to this antenna it’ll sound an alarm and flash a light.” Tanner clarified.
You all sat down on the floor to ask some questions. You made sure to sit next to one of them close enough that you didn’t feel uncomfortable being too far away. Sitting next to Tanner you brought your knees up to your chest partially to keep you warm and partially because it made you feel safer that way.
“We have a device that will let us know that you’re here,” Tanner spoke up once again. You let out a heavy sigh as you felt like the walls were getting closer. You tried to shake off the feeling but it was getting difficult. You didn’t want to tell the boys and so you hid it as well as you could. You tried to count your breaths to just give you something else to focus on. It usually worked in situations like this.
You were broken out of your thoughts when Tanner said something else.
“Martin Cahill, can you please set off that alarm,” He said. Your eyes darted around the hallway trying to find purchase somewhere that wouldn’t make your vision blurry and your head dizzy.
“We need to know that you’re actually here. So, please make this REM Pod go off,” Alex spoke this time. The silence was almost deafening and you could practically feel like someone was watching you all.
“I definitely feel like someone’s here with us,” Alex whispered. You nodded your head in agreement, “I do too,” you breathed out. Suddenly the REM Pod goes off and it makes you jump. Everyone immediately turns their attention to the small device sitting on the floor in the middle of the hallway.
“What?” Tanner said. “That’s the temperature. It’s picking up temperature change, right now. Someone is standing over that,” Alex explained. “Right after you asked for something to come stand over it, it went off,” you spoke up softly. The REM Pod continued to go off and you began to feel even worse. No one had noticed a change in you and honestly, you were slightly grateful. You didn’t want the investigation to stop because of you and you swore you would do your best to keep it under control. That’s what you were trying to do, and it wasn’t working too well anymore.
“Who’s here with us right now?” Tanner asked and looked down at each end of the hallway. You instinctively shifted closer to Tanner out of fear. “Can you make a noise in the direction you’re at?” Alex asked. Tanner noticed you move closer to him and looked down at you with concern. “(y/n), are you ok?” he asked softly, and Alex transferred his gaze to you. All you did was reach to grab Tanner’s hand. He let your hand go and you looked at him in surprise before he gently placed his arm around your shoulders. “Do you need to leave (y/n)? Cause we can get you out of here if you need us to,” Alex said softly. You shook your head, “No,” you said quickly with a wide-eyed gaze. “No, we don’t have to leave,” you said slower and softer. They both looked at you in uncertainty. “You have to be honest with us,” Tanner said and softly squeezed your shoulder. “I am being honest. We can stay ok, if we need to leave I’ll tell you,” you breathed out a heavy sigh. They could see how anxious you were getting. “C’mon I think we should go,” Tanner said and was about to get up. “I don’t think you should be in here anymore.” He said.
You were beginning to get frustrated, you just wanted to get the investigation done and get it done right. Were you feeling horrible? Yes. Did you actually want to leave? Yes. Were you going to leave and force everything to a halt? No, no you weren’t.
“Tanner, I swear on my life if you get up right now I’m gonna be so pissed,” you stated angrily. He looked down at you with wide eyes. “(y/n), seriously, it’s probably best that we get you out of here,” Alex decided to try to convince you this time. “I’m staying right here. I don’t care what you say. I’m fine and we’re staying, so stay where you are, and let’s do this right,” you were clearly getting upset. Tanner and Alex looked at each other warily. They knew they wouldn’t be able to convince you and so they decided to just stay and get it done so you could leave.
“Ok, we’ll stay,” Tanner said softly and put his arm around you again because he could tell that you needed that sense of security. “Thank you,” you sighed.
Your anger was decreasing and once again being replaced with anxiety.
You sat in silence for a few more seconds before Tanner sighed and decided it would be best to just start speaking again.
“We know that some of the worst of the worst people were housed here. Are any of you still here?” he asked. Still, all you got was silence.
You and the boys sat there for about 50 more minutes just trying to communicate but getting nothing.
“We’ve been trying to communicate with Martin Cahill and Brendan O’Donnell, and we’ve gotten nothing,” Alex explained. “It’s getting late in the night. I think we should head to the gear room and just see what phase two is,” Tanner said.
“I think that’s a pretty good idea,” you agreed with him. You all got up off of the floor and gathered your stuff. “Alright, let’s do it,” Alex said.
You all navigated your way back out of the building. The walk felt longer than it actually was seeing as you were anticipating a breath of fresh air. You just wanted the anxiety to go away and relief to come wash it all away. You wanted to see Dakota and make it all go away even just for a while.
You walked out of the building and sighed heavily. Alex gently nudged you in front of him, and you gladly took the chance to be further away from that building.
“How’d it go over there?” Dakota asked. You felt your shoulders relax at the sound of his voice. “It’s active in there,” Alex told him. “I’ll tell you right now, I don’t want to sleep in there,” Tanner explained how he felt about it. “It’s definitely not a place I'd like to go again,” you said and moved to stand by Dakota. When you got close enough he wrapped his arm around you and you leaned into him. He looked down at you with slight worry at the way you said that. He could tell something was wrong. You noticed him looking and glanced up at him with a soft smile. He smiled back just as you had and held you tighter.
“Not only is the punishment block scary, but just the island. Just being here is terrifying. Let’s just go back to the gear room. Let’s get some water, let’s take a quick break,” Dakota said as you all headed back to the gear room.
“Are you ok babe? What happened in there?” he asked you. “I just got a little nervous, nothing horrible. I’m ok now that I’m out,” you told him not wanting to explain how bad it did get. “Are you sure? you look pretty shaken up,” he said. “I’m sure. I’m ok it was just nerves I promise,” you lied. You felt bad for lying but knew you were doing it to not worry him anymore. He kissed your head, “Well, I missed you,” he told you softly. “I missed you too Kota,” you said with a smile.
You got to the gear room and set your things down. Dakota immediately wrapped his arms around you and you reciprocated happily. You sighed in relief at the feeling of his arms around you again. “They took care of you?” he asked as he once again placed a kiss on your head. “Of course they did,” you answered him honestly and pulled away slightly so you could see his face. “Good,” he said and leaned his forehead against yours.
About 5 minutes later everything got flipped around and things got chaotic.
“What?” Dakota asked frantically as Chelsea and Alex began to panic. “What? What?” Tanner asked just as frantically as your boyfriend had.
“It’s like a cannon went off!” Alex exclaimed and your eyes went wide. “Wait, what?” you asked as you grabbed your camera. “What happened?” Dakota asked. “Holy shit! There’s like explosions outside,” Alex went off. “Yeah, like huge booms,” Chelsea described to you all. You looked at both of them in shock. “Dude, like, full-on explosions, just come outside,” Alex directed.
Dakota and Tanner were trying to get the thermal going and everything was just in a complete flurry around you. You quickly followed everyone outside in a panic, with anxiety rising in you faster than before. You were honestly scared, you didn't want to hear the ‘explosions’ and booms they were talking about. Everything had seemed so much louder in your ears since that night. Every whisper, every creak, every footfall, seemed like fireworks going off right next to your ears.
You shook and it made your body ache. Everything seemed to be happening all at once and you felt lost in it.
“Guys it was literally gunshots on the island that way,” Alex pointed ahead of you. “It sounded like it was on the island,” Chelsea explained. “We weren’t even recording,” Dakota said in disbelief at what was going on. “No, we were just out here taking a break,” Chelsea said in bewilderment. You were silent as everything was happening, just trying to bring yourself back. Before you could do anything you felt a hand grab yours and you were being tugged along. You looked up from the ground and saw Chelsea in front of you with your hand in hers. “What’s happening?” you asked fearfully. You wanted to curl in on yourself but with her holding your hand you couldn’t pull back.
“It sounded close,” She said and your heart clenched not wanting to go near where they heard it. You wanted to go back to the gear room but you knew you had to keep yourself as strong as you could for their sakes. Dakota looked over at you and saw the flash of fear in your eyes. He immediately walked over to you and took your hand from his sister’s grip. Chelsea looked back in confusion before noticing it was her brother who had taken your hand instead. You looked up at him with wide doe-eyes. He felt his heart skip a beat as he looked at you so frightened trying to do your best to fight it. “It’s ok babe, I won’t let anything happen to you,” he reassured you and you just nodded your head. You gripped his hand as tightly as you could without hurting your own hand.
“Anything on the thermal, Tanner?” Dakota asked Tanner. “No,” he said in frustration. “It must’ve been freakin’ loud cause it’s so windy out, the fact that we heard that,” Chelsea said incredulously. “We’re pretty far away from the mainland like it wouldn’t be loud,” Alex stated. “It was so fucking loud,” Chelsea exclaimed. It made you shiver, you were scared to hear it. You knew it would make your head spin and it could possibly send you spiraling. You didn’t want to be scared like that anymore, You just wanted to be ok and in all honesty, you weren’t.

“It’s ok Dakota, I’m ok I promise. Go see Chelsea.” You told your boyfriend. He kissed your head and walked towards his sister pulling her into a hug. You let out an unsteady breath and your hands shook in fear. Though you needed Dakota his sister did too and you didn’t want to take him from her.
Tanner noticed how scared you looked and walked over to you. He put his hand on your shoulder and you jumped a bit. “Hey, hey, you ok? C’mere,” he said and pulled you into a hug. You let him hold you for a bit with your arms wrapped loosely around his middle. Your shaking continued and his hold got tighter for a second before he decided to let go, took a step back, and gave him a small smile. “Thanks, Tanner sorry I’m shaken up a bit.” you apologized and shook your head. He shook his head, “No, it’s ok I would be too. Don’t be sorry for that, we’ve all been there.” he reassured you and squeezed your shoulder.
Dakota looked over towards you to make sure you were ok when he saw Tanner holding you. His heart wrenched a bit at the thought of not being the one to comfort you. You sent him away, and he couldn’t help but wonder why. In the back of his mind, he knew that you thought his sister needed him more, but couldn’t help the thought that you just didn’t want him to comfort you.
You all decided to head back to the gear room for a tiny break. On the way back you walked alongside Chels and Dakota. The walk back was pretty silent but fast-paced all of you wanting to get you and Chelsea back quickly.
You thought over what had just happened and your hands began to shake once more, you didn’t tell any of them that something had touched you not wanting to bring much attention to yourself. You were never one to be in the spotlight too much, you were a part of the show but tended to be on the quiet side. You shut your eyes tightly for a second and let out a shaky breath remembering standing in a room on your own, the feeling of someone or something watching you. You asked a question wanting to know who was in the room with you. And it didn’t go as expected.   Then loud footsteps were heard coming towards you and Chels that’s when you both let out screams and the boys came running.
--
You and Chelsea were sent up to the third floor together because it was known that the entity who loomed there touched and targeted women. You looked at the boys like they were crazy when Dakota suggested you and Chelsea go up there alone. You threw your boyfriend a glare as you turned to walk onto the third floor with Chels. “I hate you Dakota!” you called over your shoulder. “I love you too (y/n)!” he called back. You and Chelsea looked at each other and rolled your eyes, “These guys are gonna kill us one day. I swear.” she let out a breath and shook her head.
You walk further down the hall, “Hey Chels, stay here for a minute I’m gonna check out room 303 ok?” you said. She looked at you with furrowed brows. “What, alone?” she questioned quickly.
“Yeah, alone. I’ll be ok I just wanna test something. I’ll be quick.” you explained to your best friend. She looked at you wearily, “I’ll do a digital recorder session out here. If something happens come get me, and we’ll leave.” she said. “Ok, call me if you need me. I’ll be quick,” you said before wandering down the hallway to room 303.
You took a breath before walking into the room. “So this is room 303, it is said that this is where a woman took her own life. People have said that there is an entity in here that suppresses her from communicating with anyone who tries. I’m gonna try and talk to her now.”
You sat down on the bed that was still there and pulled out the ovilus. “So I heard that there is a woman here that took her own life in this room. They said your name is Annie Paige, is there anything you would like to say?” you question. Your heart rate picked up a bit at the feeling of someone or something watching you. You let the question sit for a few seconds and when you were about to ask another question the Ovilus goes off.
You jump at the sudden sound that emitted from the device in your hand. “Careful.” your eyes widened “What do you mean? Are you telling me to be careful? Why should I be carefu-” you were cut off by the ovilus going off one more time. “It.” you jumped to your feet in fear ready to run from the room if necessary.
The room grew colder, and you felt tears come to your eyes. You felt cornered and you didn’t know what to do. All of a sudden you felt a presence behind you and a strong pull on your hair almost bringing you to the floor. You didn’t even know how to respond no noise even escaped you, you were scared enough that you couldn’t let out a sound. You didn’t want to alert Chelsea and scare her even more, and so you kept quiet about what happened as you quickly exited the room. You luckily didn’t drop your camera from your shaking hands when “It”  pulled your hair.
You made your way towards Chelsea, to see she was standing up from her position on the floor.
“Did you get anything on the digital recorder?” you asked as calmly as you could.
“No, I didn’t. Did you?”  she responded.
“Um, no not really, just an eerie feeling,” you said, not wanting to alarm her more than she already was up there.
Just as she opened her mouth to speak the sound of rushing footsteps coming towards you. Both of you let out screams and almost ran into each other as you backed away from the noise.
That’s when you heard the boys running up the stairs towards you and Chels.
--
Dakota turned to look at you after he heard you let out a shaky breath and his eyebrows furrowed a bit. His hand brushed yours and it made you flinch, he had seen you scared before but never like this. His worry began to build when you sent him a tight-lipped smile.
You got back to the gear room, and you and Chelsea were getting asked questions on what had happened.
“What happened up there?” Alex asked. “Me and (y/n) decided to separate. She went to 303, and I stayed back to do a digital recorder session and when she came back into the hall we heard footsteps running towards us,” Chelsea explained. “It was so loud, I swear it sounded like an actual person running at us,” you said deciding not to tell everyone just yet.
Your cameras were all set down for a second, and when you had a moment without being filmed you quickly walked towards your boyfriend. Tears began to form in your eyes and a lump in your throat grew. Dakota was changing the battery in his camera when he felt a tug on his jacket. He turned around quickly and saw you standing in front of him with teary eyes. His eyes widened, and he placed his hands on your cheeks. “(y/n), what’s wrong are you ok?” he questioned hastily.
Concern laced his words as he saw your lip trembling and fear-filled eyes.
“ I know I shouldn’t be like this. I know I should be able to handle this but I’m scared. I’m sorry but I’m scared Dakota.” you cried. Small hints of embarrassment dripped from your words, but you knew Dakota wouldn’t judge you.
His eyebrows knitted together, and he grabbed your hands and pulled you away from the group so you could speak in private.
“Babe, what happened? Are you hurt?” he asked as you clenched his jacket in your fists while his hands placed themselves on your cheeks once again.
You let tears fall down your face and tried to form proper words.
“Something happened up there… I’m so scared Dakota. I don’t- I don’t want to go back there. I know I shouldn’t be this scared but I really am.” he kissed your head and pulled you close. He could feel you shaking and his heart wrenched at the feeling.
You could hear his voice softly ask you the question you were scared to answer. You didn’t want to relive it but you knew he needed to know what was going on.
“Can you tell me what happened up there?” he asked while pushing you away slightly, so he could see your face. One hand was on the back of your head gently playing with your hair, and his other rested securely on your waist. Your eyes were glassy, and your breath was unsteady.
“I was- I was in room 303. I wanted to see if I could communicate with Annie. I asked her if there was anything she would like to say.” you shut your eyes tightly and reached up to harshly wipe tears from your eyes. Your body involuntarily shook and you let out a small cry. Dakota quickly reached for your hands and shushed you trying to give you some sort of comfort. “It’s ok (y/n), I’ve got you. You’re safe, just take your time.” he squeezed your hands in his.
You lifted both yours and his hands towards your chest, holding them tightly over your heart as if trying to calm it.
“The first word from the Ovilus I got was ‘careful’.” you stopped to breathe. He looked at you intently trying not to show the worry that was rushing through him. “I went to ask why I should be ‘careful’ It cut me off… the only word that was said was ‘It’.  The room got so much colder Dakota. I felt cornered I felt trapped and…” you looked towards the ground as you choked on your words. His eyes widened in fear. He had no idea what to do, he was scared of what you were going to say. It was obvious that your story wasn’t over. His breath caught in his throat.
“Babe, did it hurt you?” he asked in the sternest yet gentle tone. “I- I felt something behind me. It felt so dark, it was heavy, I felt like I couldn’t breathe. Out of- out of nowhere something reached up and grabbed my hair.” you felt Dakota loosen his grip on your hands, and he went to pull them away. Quickly your hands shot out to grab him once again, but he caught your wrists. You looked up at him with wide eyes. He let his hands move your arms to your sides, so he could place his hands on your waist and snake his arms around your waist. You let out a heavy sigh of relief and relaxed in his grip. “It grabbed my hair and pulled it. It pulled so hard I swear I was gonna hit the floor. I was so scared I could barely get a sound out, all I could do was get out of that room. I was so scared, I didn’t say anything. I didn’t want to scare Chelsea even more than she was. I’m sorry I didn’t say something, I just I didn’t know- I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t want to scare anyone. I’m sorry Dakota.” you thoroughly apologized, as you told your boyfriend what happened.
He pulled you close and held you tightly to him trying to calm you and himself. He had no idea what to do to help you. He didn’t want you or Chels to go back up there alone. There was no way he was going to let you sleep alone up there. Hell, he didn’t want you to sleep alone period.
You clung tightly to him and buried your face in his neck trying to calm your nerves by feeling his skin against your still trembling lips. He felt your lips on his neck and sighed at the feeling of you in his arms.
“You have nothing to be sorry for Babe. It’s ok, you and Chels are not going back up there.” he pulled you away from him and pushed your hair away from your tear-stained face.
“You aren’t mad at me?” you asked with shiny eyes. He looked at you in surprise at your words. “I could never be mad at you for that. I understand ok, but why didn’t you let me comfort you up there?” he asked with sincerity. “She’s your sister, and she was scared, and she needed you. I didn’t want to seem selfish,” you explained to him shyly. He looked at you sadly.
“You needed me too, especially after that. She would’ve understood, you wouldn’t have seemed selfish at all. Don’t think that way, I’m here for both of you. You’re both too important to me to let you be on your own. I would drop anything to be there for you.” he said and cupped your cheeks. He leaned down and rested his forehead against yours. “Anything.” he breathed out. You wrapped your hands around his forearms tilted your head so you could kiss him.
His lips were warm against yours and his thumbs stroked your cheeks. You could feel the soft tendrils of his hair brushing your forehead, all of these feelings were grounding you. He grounded you, he brought you back from the precipice of your breaking point.
He pulled away and looked at your face. Your eyes were closed still, and he could tell you were beginning to calm down.
You opened your eyes and were met with your boyfriend’s bright, reassuring smile.
You smiled back lightly.
“Are you ready to go tell the rest of them?” he asked you. You looked at him with unsure eyes, scared that they may think of you as weak. Despite the fact that you knew they would never think that of you seeing as they have all had their own experiences. You knew they wouldn’t judge you.
“I’ll be right there.” he tried to encourage you. You looked at him and nodded before reaching to grasp his hand.
“Ok. I’m ready.” he kissed your head and you walked back to the others.
They heard your footsteps and turned to face you all. Dakota gave them a look that told them to not let you know that they noticed you breaking down to him; to not mention your absence.
They all got the message.
You looked at all of them with nerves running through you, you squeezed his hand and took a deep breath before explaining what had happened to you.
They all looked at you with wide eyes, wondering why you kept that from them.
“C’mere,” Chelsea said and held out her arms. You walked towards her and wrapped her in a hug. “It’s ok to be scared, you have such a valid reason to be. I’m glad you told us, we won’t go back up there. You or me.” Chelsea assures you. You nodded and smiled shyly at her, “Thank you. All of you for being here for me. I’m so lucky to have friends who have each other’s backs. I love you guys.” you told them before going around and hugging them all.
You all let fate decide your sleeping arrangements, and neither you nor Chelsea got the 3rd floor which was a huge relief. Even though you knew if you did draw it you would draw again. You let yourself accept the fact that you wouldn’t be sleeping alone tonight. You were actually glad that Dakota would be in the same room as you.
You all settled in your sleeping arrangements, you were sitting on the cot opposite Dakota. He got up and pressed a kiss to your head and sat back down with his hand in yours. Throughout the rest of the night, things went as they usually did. Noises were made and screams were heard from each of you. When the sun came up you were sitting nestled into Dakota’s side searching for comfort in his presence.
He kept you safe all night long, and you did the same for him.
You got through the night and after that swore you would never go back, but knowing you had the people you loved by your side made it all bearable and worth it.
When the cameras turned off you all stepped into the RV. You curled up next to Dakota on the small couch.
“Thank you, Kota.” you thanked your boyfriend. He looked down at you and leaned down to press a kiss to your lips. Reminding you that he would always be there for you. By your side as you made your way to overcome your fear.

At Your Side -- A Destination Fear One Shot (Tanner Wiseman/Reader)
A/N: Happy Holidays!!! Here’s a new one shot.

The crew and you just wrapped up on the last location of this road trip. With back-to-back locations, you had not gotten much sleep and could not wait to be in your bed snuggled up to Tanner. Attempting to sleep on a moving RV is rather cramped and someone else always seems to take up the big bed in the back, usually Chelsea. Luckily the wait to get back home was not long since the location was only 20 minutes away, and those 20 minutes seemed to fly by in a blink of an eye.
Now the only thing in the way from you achieving a good night's sleep was putting the equipment away. With 5 people, heaving the many cases went rather quickly. With Alex grabbing the last case, you all turned to the house to head back in.
That is when it decided to start raining.
Alex started booking it to the door first, seeing as he had equipment on him, followed shortly by Dakota and Chelsea. You start to go when you feel Tanner stop you.
“C’mon,” he says with a smile on his face, “Let’s enjoy some fun in the rain for once.”
You smile back at him and follow his lead towards the side of the road. There, he grabs your hands and starts to dance with you in the rain. You quickly follow his steps and soon the both of you are chuckling and enjoying the moment. Time passes, you are not sure how much exactly as you were just enjoying the time spent with your boyfriend, he brings you closer and kisses you in the rain.
“Ever the romantic,” you say once you break from the kiss, “This moment definitely belongs in a rom-com.”
Tanner smiles at you with his eyes filled with love before saying, “Glad I accomplished that. Now come on, let’s go inside before either one of us gets sick.”
The two of you run back towards the house and quickly get out of your wet clothes before calling it a night. The two of you settled into bed, cuddling up to one another, and quickly fell asleep.
You woke up hours later feeling cold. You turn to the side and notice Tanner must have gotten up to use the bathroom because his side of the bed was still a bit warm, and the sheets were everywhere. You immediately start cocooning yourself in the blankets to try and get warm. Once you had become a blanket burrito was when Tanner returned.
“Hi,” he says in a soft voice.
You smile at him and get your arms out from the blankets to make grabby hands at him. He chuckles slightly before quickly joining you in bed again. You wrap your arms around him and place your forehead on his shoulder. It felt cool to the touch, and you much appreciated it.
“Love, you’re burning up,” Tanner says with concern in his voice.
“I’m okay” you say in a stuffy voice before being racked with a cough.
“Well, that doesn’t sound good at all. Guess my judgement on when to get out of the rain was off. Sorry to have caused you to get sick,” he says with a guilty look on his face before kissing your hairline.
“It’s not your fault. I think it was a combination of the rain and not much sleep the past few days,” you answer back.
“You get some more sleep, and I’ll take care of you,” Tanner says while getting up and tucking you in.
You nod your head in response, already starting to doze off again. A couple hours of sleep later, you wake up again and find some Day-Quil on your nightstand along with a bottle of water. You quickly take the medicine with the water. As you are about to get out of bed, the door to your room opens and Tanner quickly enters with a bowl of something steaming in his hands.
“I know it’s not homemade or anything special, but I thought I’d make you some chicken noodle soup when you woke up,” he says while handing you the bowl with the spoon already in it before sitting beside you on the bed.
“I’d say it’s special because you made it. Thank you” you smile back before being racked with yet another coughing fit.
Once the coughing fit subsided, you quickly ate the soup, not realizing how hungry you were until that moment. When you finished, Tanner quickly took the empty bowl back to the kitchen before returning to your side.
“Now, can we cuddle? That’s all I really want right now,” you say while making grabby hands again.
“As you wish, love,” he says while quickly pulling you in.
You start to doze off again in the warm embrace of your boyfriend with nothing but a smile on your face. Throughout the rest of the day, Tanner continued to dote on you. Luckily this cold seemed to come and go quickly, and when Tanner ended up catching it, you doted on him as much as he did you.
