The film stars Kate Bosworth, Lucien Laviscount, Thomas Kretschmann, and Martin McCann. Set in a future where unchecked climate change has caused massive devastation, the movie follows a group of soldiers stranded at sea on an abandoned military outpost. They are waiting for reinforcements or an enemy invasion, whichever comes first. As they defend their homeland from an unknown enemy, they face mounting tensions among themselves. Then, a mysterious boat appears on the horizon, and they must decide whether it is their salvation or a new threat. Produced by Ben Pullen, Ivo Felt, Jorg Bundschuh, Pippa Cross, and Matthew James Wilkinson, "Last Sentinel" promises to take audiences on a thrilling journey of fear, mistrust, love, and hope. good morning tumblrinas <3 i was tagged by the lovely @moonlattae to post my top movies of 2021! in no particular order:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(i think i watched 2 of these in 2020 but it's all one long year to me at this point)
Stalker dir. Andrei Tarkovsky: it's complex but the girls that get it get it
Breakfast at Tiffany's dir. Blake Edwards: it's so much more than a pretty actress just doing her lines (which is what i expected of the movie); it's charming and even a little bizarre for a Hollywood film (still, the racial stereotype did not go unseen)
Back to the Future dir. Robert Zemeckis: i'm so happy i finally watched this, it's such a feel-good movie <3
Fanny & Alexander dir. Ingmar Bergman: bro..... this is a movie for the ages. i highly recommend it but only if you're ready for some potentially trigerring topics. honestly it made me look at life in a different way and it's the type of movie i'd watch with my children once they're older
Scent of a Woman dir. Martin Brest: surprisingly heart-warming, but again, gets upsetting in some places
Truth and Justice dir. Tanel Toom: this one was a doozy. it took me 2 evenings to finish it because it's a tough movie. definitely can draw parallels with Fanny & Alexander with its topics of fate and fatality, even though they're polar opposites w/ how they approach these topics

19.11.2020 // Melancholic day
I want to be honest. I haven’t done anything productive in the past 2 days. The truth is that I’m struggling with my own thought a lot right now and within I struggle to do everyday tasks as you can see by my messy desk. It’s a rough patch to take in, but I’m hoping that tomorrow will be a little easier.
Tumblr media
At least yesterday I did something.
Yesterday I visited Parlament and shadowed our Minister of Culture. It was so interesting. I also saw Estonian famous film director Tanel Toom who came to the Ministry of Culture with other film directors to discuss problems of film making in Estonia.
Who is Tanel Toom?
He is the director of the film Truth and Justice.
“Truth and Justice (Estonian: Tõde ja õigus) is a 2019 Estonian epic drama film directed by Tanel Toom. The film is an adaptation of the first volume of the 1926–1933 social epic pentalogy of the same name by Estonian author A. H. Tammsaare.”
-Wikipedia
Why was I so excited?
I study in humanitarian class, so we talk about Estonian literature and films a lot. I loved A. H. Tammsaare's first book of the pentalogy. It’s actually a little bit dark, most students may find it too melancholic, which it is, however, I think that Tammsaare's approach to love, work, etc is really thoughtful and it gives a lot to discuss and think about.
“Work hard and love will follow.”
(“Tee tööd ja näe vaeva, siis tuleb armastus.”)
- Most quoted sentence from Tammsaare’s work
Today's vibe:

Estonia and Eurovision 101
Tumblr media
Estonia has taken part in Eurovision 25 times
Estonia has won once, finished last once and has never received 0 points
Estonia’s best era in Eurovision was from 1996 to 2002, where it finished in top 8 six out of seven times
Estonia’s 1996 entry which got 5th place was the first time former Soviet country finished in top 5
Estonia won Eurovision in 2001 with  Tanel Padar’s, Dave Benton’s & 2XL’s “Everybody” in Denmark
Dave Benton was the first person of colour and, at the age of 50 years and 101 days, the oldest contestant at the time to win the contest
Estonia was the first former Soviet country to win the contest and the second Eastern European country to win
Since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004, Estonia has failed to reach the final on nine occasions
Estonia has reached the top ten in Final four times: in 2009, 2012, 2015 and 2018
Estonia’s total of 10 top ten results, is more than other Baltic countries
Estonia is placed in the Nordic voting block, due Estonia often giving points to Norway, Sweden and Finland
Estonia and Finland are apparently the only countries to have translated subtitles for every song.
Estonia has been represented by non-Estonian four times (Aruban and 3 Swedes) in 2001, 2002, 2006 and 2019 respectively and by Estonian-Russian twice - in 2014 and 2018 respectively
Estonia has sung in Estonian 7 times, in Võro language 1 time (2004), in Serbian, German and Finnish 1 time (all in 2008), in Italian 1 time (2018), in English 14 times
Estonian entries from 2000 to 2019 (bolded reached the final):
