do you have hcs for the characters‘ handwriting? :)
Aside from a couple of particular details, I tried to leave these vague enough to be applicable to either English or Japanese handwriting. However, I'm admittedly not super familiar with the nuances of handwritten Japanese... >w>
. . .
Zera — Neat in an annoying way. Deliberately ornate, almost to the point of calligraphy, even for homework or day-to-day notes. Has DEFINITELY practiced his personal autograph (will not admit this). His natural handwriting is messy and rushed; think "doctor script".
Nico — Messy and plain. Lots of blocky shapes and sharp angles. Presses down so hard that he's prone to tearing paper and breaking pencil tips. Scratches out misspellings instead of erasing them, which results in black scribbles scattered around the page.
Raizou — You know that overly cutesy handwriting that got banned in Japanese classrooms in the 1970s? That. Goes out of his way to get everything as aesthetically pleasing as possible... which means lots of hearts, happy faces, and other decor. Even when he's not putting in so much effort, the rounded, "pretty" look stays.
Kaneda — Dark and scratchy, with letters so small and packed together that it's hard for other people to read them. Slanted, angular lines, and a messy-ish look that mostly comes from the overlapping look of letters and words without enough space between them.
Dentaku — Neat in a plain way. Everything is simple, precise, and readable, with no real notable features aside from the lack of them. It tends to look more like a font than an actual person's handwriting, but he's just proud of keeping even his messiest notes legible.
Dafu — Surprisingly neat. Light pressure, clean spacing, and softly rounded lines. It gets messier when he's rushed, but it's plenty legible even then. Prone to leaving little doodles (like that "love umbrella" drawing) and notes in the margins of whatever he's writing.
Tamiya — Messy in a careless way. His handwriting isn't bad, exactly, but he's certainly not putting a lot of effort into it. Can (and does) keep things neater on assignments and homework, but lapses into the more rushed look for anything that's not getting a grade.
Yakobu — Messy in a clumsy way. Rounded shapes and shaky lines, with a lot of obvious misspellings in words that he doesn't bother to correct. Writes "big" by default; it takes active concentration to keep his words small enough to stay in the lines of ruled paper.
Jaibo — The most illegible scrawl of lines that could possibly be passed off as actual handwriting. Filled with scribbly bits, scratched-out parts, and obvious mistakes, whether it's a silly note doodled in class or a formal assignment. This disaster handwriting is entirely deliberate; he thinks it's funny to make people decipher it.
Kanon — Pretty. Soft, rounded letters and clean lines, with hardly any crooked bits or erased-out mistakes. Near-perfect alignment and spacing even if she's writing on blank, unlined paper. Feminine, but in a mature way; not the cutesy look like Raizou's.

Finished reading litchi hikari club and thought about beastars au with them.
Maybe I'll think about it more later...
Tumblr media
And some more notes about au... That was based on their appearance and personalities, I may not be right, but at least it was fun to assign them animals-
Zera is German shepherd and all of you know, why. (because it's German. Anyway, he's very stern and smart so he really looks like one)
Jaibo is a black cat too, but unlike domestic kitty Raizou, he's more like a stray, wild cat?
Jacob is a monkey (macaque¿), I guess it's obvious answer-
Nico - wolf, it may be obvious too
Dafu is a racoon. I don't have reasons for it, but why not?
Kaneda - raven?
I wanted to joke about Litchi as a bear (freddy fazbear--) but I thought that can make sense, so maybe, I don't know-
I didn't came up with Dentaku already because I don't have exact ideas, but I need to do it as soon as possible.
(maybe I'll do one stupid animatic with them later...)

Very lazy doodle, but you see my vision.
Tumblr media
The fact that I immediately thought of this just proves I might be beyond saving, but oh well. Potentially a decent occasion for the Litchi Hikari Club fandom, less so for my likely horrified mutuals, but I do what I must.
Based on this Twitter post I came across randomly.

Do you have any idea who everyone else in the flags was based on??
Hm…if you’re asking if any of the Flags’ personalities directly align with any of irl Chuuya’s friends, Wikipedia hasn’t given me a whole lot of insight into that.
I’ve mentioned in this post that I hc Piano Man as Saburo Moroi. That’s the one I’m most confident about.
Chuuya also fell for a couple of actresses in his youth named Yasuko Hasegawa and Michiko. I think Michiko was just a crush and a muse, but Yasuko was his first love and a lifelong bestie. So that could have been the inspiration behind Lippmann.
For any other possible Flags influences I’d really have to reach though. None of his most notable besties really stood out to me as having anything to do with Iceman Doc or Albatross. Not even his ride or die Hideo Kobayashi. But then, wiki pages tend to just list accomplishments over anything about someone’s personality.
If you care to go into random headcanon territory, I did consider Iceman as Jiro Aoyama, an art critic and antique collector/appraiser. He was known for his “genius, discerning eye that could see straight into the essence of an antique to critique it harshly”, which reminded me a bit of our astute assassin. Chuuya’s friend group would regularly gather at his house for "Aoyama Gakuin" meetings, and he was known to make their mutual bff Kobayashi cry at drinking parties.
I also considered assigning Iceman as Testsutaro Kawakami, the Surya member who brought Chuuya into the group and introduced him to Moroi to begin with. He, Chuuya, and Kobayashi also started a magazine together called “Idiot Group” or “The Idiots” which could maybe have something to do with the Flags. Yasuko even ended up publishing a few poems through them. Kawakami and Chuuya were also really close to the very end. Chuuya sent him a letter of farewell when he got sick and Kawakami proceeded to visit his bedside every day.
Chuuya probably knew multiple doctors, between his dad and Mori and such. That could have inspired the Doc personality. For the sake of giving Doc a name though I just went with Hiroshi Tamiya. He played cello for Surya but is most famous for being a really important microbiologist.
Albatross is an enigma.

I was making a list of male characters I've been attached to throughout my life for my other blog and it accidentally became a therapy session without me knowing. I think I finally figured out at least half of why I've been so attached/drawn to specific fictional characters. I've made a list of every one I can recall right now, but for now I'm focusing on the male characters.

- father figure, in a position of power, older man
Jeice - DBZ (age 7)

Auron - FFX (age 7 to present)
- mentor and guardian, male, powerful, person of note, role model
Jeremy Whittington - Ghostbusters [animated series] (age 8)

- older male, father figure/older brother, gentle, caring, can fight/could protect, role model, mentor
Hedin Selland - Danmachi (present)
- older male, mentor, can fight/could protect, possible older brother
The general consensus of the characters I was and still am drawn to are older men who I feel can protect me, or who are fathers themselves with children that they love. I left out any characters I feel as though I only related to because of personality similarities.
I also came to realize that most of these were paternal connection instead of romantic, but some of them did turn that way (marked with an asterisk*).
It probably won't feel like that big of a deal to anyone else but it is a big deal to me. Fiction means so much to me. I've built worlds and lived lives inside my head that no one knows of or ever will know of. I've made my own families and narratives and it is all precious. It will always be there. I just think I need to learn to remember that I have a physical body with actual real people around me, and to interact with them too.
I was a lonely child. I understand that now. I grew up in an unstable DV household with little familial interaction/support. I replaced those missing connections with fictional ones, and ended up living in my own head. I still do that and I've realized that when I get most upset and uncomfortable is when I have to be 'away' from the little world inside of my head.
I still have my suspicion that I am autistic, something that must have frustrated little me and everyone else to no end. I have relatives who have been diagnosed with things such as schizophrenia, ADHD and other forms of mental disability. I wouldn't be surprised if I was one of them.
It felt cathartic to sit down inside my head with little me and tell her that it's okay, that we won't have to cry as much anymore. That I found something that makes sense, finally. We can take a step forward, and I won't do it by leaving her alone again.
Because I exist, I exist, I exist. I exist.

Ngl these terrible children really bring out my maternal instincts. Do you think they’d be receptive to a mother figure? Just someone who makes sure they’re fed and healthy. Who praises them and gently reprimands them when they get outta control. Most of canon could have been avoided with a bit more adult supervision 🤣
Absolutely. The whole "adults are bad" thing is 100% compensation for the fact that Zera's relationship with the adults in his life has been horrific. And really, all of them are so very love-starved. >A>
. . .
Zera — He's highly resistant to parental attention at first, and your presence makes him sink even deeper into the whole "adults are evil" thing. And yet, relentless kindness wears down that defensive layer... and Zera ends up pitifully obvious about how badly he wants your praise. It's an attempt to gain the affection he's never had before.
Nico — The slightest bit of positive attention is almost pathetically effective with him. Nico is the one who gets obedient, fast. Thanks to a complete lack of parental affection at home, he has no mental defense for that kind of thing. It's obvious that he wants your approval desperately, no matter how awkward he is about it.
Raizou — A "mom" sort of figure goes over well with him. Since he's only ever had his dad around, it's... nice, in a weird way. He'll be bugging you constantly about makeup, fashion, and more, and gets uncharacteristically shy under the resulting attention. Terribly obvious about how needy he gets, though he'll pretend otherwise.
Kaneda — He spends a long while panicking every time you interact with him. It's partially because he's scared of doing something wrong, and partially because you remind him of his mom, and the resulting clingy feelings are way too embarrassing. All of the caretaking makes him want to hide... but he still really, really wants the attention.
Dentaku — Adult approval makes him feel kind of weird. Sure, he's always been praised for how smart he is, but a parental-like figure being so affectionate is new. Dentaku tries to divert it at first, unsure of how to respond (and thinking it's not right for him, anyway), but he turns out to appreciate the caretaking more than anticipated.
Dafu — Once he can (mostly) get over the horny side of things, he's very sweet with you. Parental attention is both extremely flustering and makes him feel like he's doing something right, and as a result, Dafu gets very, very clingy. And he's open about it. He's past the point of shame already, in general, so what does this hurt?
Tamiya — He has a decent mom already, but you're... really good to him, and he appreciates how you treat Kaneda and Dafu too. Hiroshi already knows how to behave around a parental figure, so he's not too weird about it. If anything, it's nice to have you around the club, keeping things from getting completely out of control.
Yakobu — He turns into an attention-seeking child, fast. Yakobu really doesn't get enough attention at home, so when you're around, he's clingy, annoying, and generally doing anything possible to not-so-subtly get you to interact with him. It's kind of sad, really, especially when you see how happy he gets over your affection.
Jaibo — Prepare for him to be a total brat about it. If you wanna act like his parent, he's going to give you every bit as much trouble as he did his dad. Really, it's all just defensive behavior. Jaibo is highly uncomfortable with adults being nice to him— your attention makes him feel weird and unsure, and he's lashing out as a result.
