Zera — He's highly resistant to parental attention at first, and your presence makes him sink even deeper into the whole "adults are evil" thing. And yet, relentless kindness wears down that defensive layer... and Zera ends up pitifully obvious about how badly he wants your praise. It's an attempt to gain the affection he's never had before.

Nico — The slightest bit of positive attention is almost pathetically effective with him. Nico is the one who gets obedient, fast. Thanks to a complete lack of parental affection at home, he has no mental defense for that kind of thing. It's obvious that he wants your approval desperately, no matter how awkward he is about it.

Raizou — A "mom" sort of figure goes over well with him. Since he's only ever had his dad around, it's... nice, in a weird way. He'll be bugging you constantly about makeup, fashion, and more, and gets uncharacteristically shy under the resulting attention. Terribly obvious about how needy he gets, though he'll pretend otherwise.

Kaneda — He spends a long while panicking every time you interact with him. It's partially because he's scared of doing something wrong, and partially because you remind him of his mom, and the resulting clingy feelings are way too embarrassing. All of the caretaking makes him want to hide... but he still really, really wants the attention.

Dentaku — Adult approval makes him feel kind of weird. Sure, he's always been praised for how smart he is, but a parental-like figure being so affectionate is new. Dentaku tries to divert it at first, unsure of how to respond (and thinking it's not right for him, anyway), but he turns out to appreciate the caretaking more than anticipated.

Dafu — Once he can (mostly) get over the horny side of things, he's very sweet with you. Parental attention is both extremely flustering and makes him feel like he's doing something right, and as a result, Dafu gets very, very clingy. And he's open about it. He's past the point of shame already, in general, so what does this hurt?

Tamiya — He has a decent mom already, but you're... really good to him, and he appreciates how you treat Kaneda and Dafu too. Hiroshi already knows how to behave around a parental figure, so he's not too weird about it. If anything, it's nice to have you around the club, keeping things from getting completely out of control.

Yakobu — He turns into an attention-seeking child, fast. Yakobu really doesn't get enough attention at home, so when you're around, he's clingy, annoying, and generally doing anything possible to not-so-subtly get you to interact with him. It's kind of sad, really, especially when you see how happy he gets over your affection.

Jaibo — Prepare for him to be a total brat about it. If you wanna act like his parent, he's going to give you every bit as much trouble as he did his dad. Really, it's all just defensive behavior. Jaibo is highly uncomfortable with adults being nice to him— your attention makes him feel weird and unsure, and he's lashing out as a result.

Zera — How dare you insist that he do something like this. Zera starts out complaining plenty, but once he's actually bare and in your lap— he's too flustered to form protests anymore. You bounce your leg until he gets started, and by that point, he's too turned on to do anything but hide his face and keep grinding into you.

Nico — He's determined to follow your orders no matter what, and yet, sitting in your lap like this teeters on the edge of more humiliation than he can take. Your praise wins out over any sense of pride, though, and Nico ends up obediently humping your thigh, trembling all the while and struggling to stifle desperate noises.

Raizou — He's all squirmy and flustered from the start, blushing red down to his neck, and whining about how cruel it is to make a maiden do something like this. Upon finding out that you want that, he's so flustered that his brain gives out for a few seconds. Nico is convinced that he doesn't deserve that kind of thing, let alone from someone as wonderful as you— but at the same time, the obvious love you're showing leaves him grateful and overwhelmed, aching in his chest because you're so good to him. He'd never deny you anything so you'll have to be careful that he's actually comfortable with it.

Raizou

Just the mention of wanting to take his virginity has Raizou squealing and scolding you for saying such lewd things to a maiden like him. The dramatics are all to cover up how flustered he is, though, especially now that he can't tear his mind away from much-too-explicit thoughts of love-making with you. There's a certain level of hesitance stemming from self-consciousness and just plain anxiety, but... you really want to have that with him...?

Kaneda

No matter how careful you are with bringing up that topic, you're going to nearly give Riku an anxiety attack. He really, really, really wants to have that with you, but thinking that you somehow know the worst of his stupid, horny thoughts almost makes him panic. He's also just plain terrified of messing up— he's bound to be awkward and bad at it, so what if you get sick of that? And yet, despite all of the fear, he's getting problems just thinking about it.

Dentaku

That's one potential scenario that Dentaku definitely wasn't accounting for. He understands that you're his partner for a reason, but the idea of someone wanting to take his virginity just doesn't compute. He's terribly flustered when you tell him, tripping over his words because how is he supposed to respond to that? Without a doubt, you're the person he'd most want to do that with, but it's still overwhelming to think about it so suddenly.

Dafu

Be careful when you bring it up, because just the suggestion of sex is enough to give Dafu problems. Even in the best of circumstances, it seems like his brain is shorting out a little, though. He wants that kind of thing with you more than anything, but actually picturing it has his blood rushing down fast enough to leave him dizzy and his heart pounding like it wants to escape. He can barely think clearly enough to form a coherent response.

Tamiya

That's one thing you can say that'll catch him off guard. Hiroshi has to think about it. While he's not exactly saving himself for marriage, he does feel like his first time should be with someone special. And... it's a little overwhelming to consider. Getting off to the thought of pretty people is one thing. Actually doing things is entirely another. Hiroshi finds himself uncharacteristically nervous, but not in a bad way. He's just... excited, probably.

Yakobu

Wait, seriously!? When you first express that desire, Yakobu assumes you're joking. Even if you like him enough to be his partner, it feels hard to believe that you'd want to go all the way. That's not to say he's not excited, though. Rather, he's likely to agree to it a little too quickly, in part because he's subconsciously convinced he'll never have a chance like this again. You like him enough to want that, and Yakobu couldn't be happier.

Jaibo

Sorry, but you're a little too late to do that. Jaibo acts almost smug about how he lost his virginity ages ago— and yet, you can't help but get the feeling he's covering up some level of shame. There's not much he hasn't done before in terms of sex acts, and deep, deep down, there's the worry that you'll think of him as used. Jaibo will never let himself admit that, though, so instead, he just assures you that he knows what he's doing plenty well.

He has plenty of complaints about how immature and pointless a game like this is... right up until he's the one who has to go into the closet with you. At that point, Zera is too stunned to protest until he's shoved into the tiny space and pressed way too close to you. As soon as you start getting touchy, any attempts to preserve his dignity are gone. Zera melts embarrassingly quickly, arching into your touch while still trying to process what's happening, and why he can't make himself pull away and scold you for it.

Nico

From the start, he was not happy about the potential of someone going into the closet with you... and once he's chosen instead, that prickly protectiveness turns into near-panic. Nico is terribly self-conscious now that he's so close to you, and everyone outside is bound to hear his yelp when you first touch him. He'd never deny you anything, of course, no matter how shameful it'll be later. All that matters is that he has your attention, even if he's still acutely aware that he's done nothing to deserve this.

Raizou

All of his excited gushing about how scandalous a game like this is come to an abrupt halt when he's the one who has to go into the closet with you. Even before you start getting touchy, Raizou is squirming and unconsciously muttering to himself about all of the things you could do to him. And even though he's terribly flustered by the noises he makes once your hands are everywhere, he's too overwhelmed to stop— and too excited about what's happening to even try to spare his dignity.

Kaneda

It's an anxiety attack in the making when he's made to go into the closet with you. Riku is shaking like a nervous little dog before you ever start touching him— and when you do, it's hard to tell if he's panicking or if he likes it. The embarrassing reality is that he really wants you to keep going. People are going to laugh at him when it's over, but Riku is as horny-brained as any of them, and he can't make himself pass up a chance to have you touching him like this. He'll deal with Tamiya and Dafu poking fun at him later.

Dentaku

He was probably all but forced to play the game, in the first place, and hoping he'd go ignored and not have to be properly involved. Dentaku doesn't know whether to be excited or slightly panicked about getting pushed into the closet with you— but he's flustered from the very start, and when you start touching him, he spirals into a stammering mess. It would be stupid to turn down a lucky chance like this, but he has enough rational thought left to know that he'll be embarrassing himself if he lets this continue.

Dafu

He's been a little too eager since the game started, and being chosen to go in the closet with you has Dafu's heart pounding like it wants to explode. He's not expecting much, but even being pressed close to you in such a small space would fuel his fantasies for ages. But then you're touching him, actually touching him, and Dafu is too startled to do anything but accept it. It doesn't take much at all to have him hard and praying you won't stop. It doesn't matter at all if everyone knows once you're out.

Tamiya

A game like this is kind of stupid, but Hiroshi is the kind of good sport to play along for the sake of everyone else's fun. Unfortunately, that ends with him in a tiny closet, pressed way too close to you... and quickly finding out that you plan to take advantage of that. It's going to be horribly embarrassing once you're out of the closet, but with your hands wandering and the obvious promise of more, for once, Hiroshi's horny brain is ruling his decisions, regardless of what'll happen when it's over.

Yakobu

He spends the first half of the game cracking jokes about who'll be lucky enough to get shut in the closet with you... only for it to end up being himself. And suddenly, Yakobu isn't quite so brave. He's ready to keep up the comedy act (to spare himself the awkwardness) until you're allowed out of the closet, but then you're actually touching him, and his thoughts turn into a keysmash. Impulsive enough not to think about the consequences, he's eagerly responding to your advances.

Jaibo

He goes into the game fully prepared to make someone highly uncomfortable. But then, he ends up in the closet with you, and you don't seem disturbed at all. The next thing Jaibo knows, you're getting very touchy, and he's almost too stunned to return the favor. This is what he was expecting to do, more or less, and yet, it's a lot now that it's actually happening. Frustrated with his own uncharacteristic shyness, Jaibo makes himself return your advances twofold, uncaring of how he'll look afterward.

As much as he wants to act unbothered (if not like he just did you a favor, Zera is already nearly trembling from the attention, and his attempt at a cool dismissal comes out stuttered and weak. He's too flushed for his glasses to do a thing to hide it and visibly excited in a way that's oddly earnest, coming from him.

Nico

It's hard to tell if he's upset, for a second... but all too quickly, Nico's face is going bright red as he proclaims his thanks with downright awkward levels of volume. He doesn't know how to react beyond trying to appease you, and with his mind racing, he defaults to the kind of respectful behavior he's gotten used to.

Raizou

Cue lots of stuttering, squeeing, and barely coherent rambling about how happy he is. You're awfully bold to take a maiden's first kiss like that— but Raizou certainly isn't complaining. He's so excited over the kiss that he's not at all thinking about what could happen next, just that everything in that moment is bliss.

Kaneda

Are you trying to kill him? As soon as the kiss registers, Kaneda feels close to passing out. He can't tell if he's happy enough for it to make him sick or just plain terrified, and in the end, he's probably going to run. Either that or just sit there, silently panicking, and acutely self-conscious of everything he does.

Dentaku

No amount of calculations can explain away why it feels like his heart is about to beat through his chest. Dentaku is stunned, much too flustered, and debating the merits of trying to hide behind his calculator. For some unknown reason, you chose him, and he doesn't know how to process how happy that makes him.

Dafu

As soon as he registers your lips against his, Dafu's usual problem kicks in in record time. He's a red-faced, squirming mess in no time, and there's an equal chance of him shrinking back into a little ball of anxiety, or going for a second kiss when his desperation gets the better of him. Either way, he's embarrassed.

Tamiya

It takes him a minute to recover, but even when he does, Hiroshi finds it hard to keep his cool. He ends up tentatively asking if you were serious about that... and immediately feeling like an idiot for saying it. He's happy about it, of course, but also struggling to move past being well and truly caught off guard by the kiss.

Yakobu

For once, he's too stunned for even a dumb pun to escape. Yakobu has imagined this happening plenty of times by now, but now that his daydreams are reality, he has absolutely no idea what to do. He's so happy it's almost hard to contain, but also, for once, left thinking way too hard about if this means anything serious.

Jaibo

Why is this giving him feelings? Jaibo doesn't know why he's the one left desperate and nervous, but he hates it. He hates how badly he wants you to kiss him again, and how close he feels to tears just from that small gesture of affection. He'll play it off as best he can, but it's sadly obvious that he's shaken.

His feelings on the matter are a weird mix of being convinced that he's above such "base pleasures" and being so very, very lonely. Fantasizing fills a void for Zera. He can temporarily live in a world where he has whatever he wants, and where intimacy doesn't feel like a trap. He's learned to be quiet during the act, and subtle enough to get away with it even when his mother or brother is home. Since he associates sex with control, though, there's always a faint bit of shame with how weak his needs can make him.

Nico

Not often. Nico lives in a more or less one-room apartment with his mother, so there aren't a lot of chances for him to do that kind of thing. Beyond that, he always feels vaguely shameful when his mind starts to wander during the act— especially when the thoughts reach people he knows. When he does get himself off, it's quick, rough, and more to get it over with than to bring any kind of pleasure. Every so often, he has time while his mother is out on a date, but he's usually too tired to bother with it.

Raizou

Even though his dad has always been openly accepting of how natural it is for "growing boys" to do that kind of thing, Raizou is still nervous. Riku is highly embarrassed by anything sexual. He has every bit as much of a sex drive as the rest of them, but any attention brought to it makes him want to curl up and die. Terrified of getting caught (and just plain ashamed of his own reactions), he doesn't handle things very often. He's prone to stopping halfway through when the embarrassment gets to be too much, and tends to be pent up because of it. Underneath all of the shame and anxiety, he has some pretty wild fantasies... he's just heavily suppressing them.

Dentaku

He's generally disinterested in that sort of thing. Dentaku tends to be too distracted by his studies to think about his body's needs often, and even outside of that, his body's need for it is low. He doesn't have any issues with getting off when he does need it, but the idea of sexual contact with another person is... a little uncomfortable. So long as it's quick and clinical, handling his body's desires is fine, but Dentaku doesn't like to linger for too long on fantasies— that always ends up killing the mood.

Dafu

Frequently. That's the main word that describes Katsuya's habits. He has a ridiculously high libido— the slightest things can turn him on in seconds, and as a result, he finds every chance to take care of things. And he's a frequent fantasizer. Daydreams and a wandering mind are constant for him, and he's not hesitant to get off to the thought of real people, albeit, those he doesn't know well. He's also a frequent experiencer of "post-nut shame", where all of his horny-brained stupidity comes crashing down hard.

Tamiya

It's kind of hard to do things when he shares a room with his sister, but Hiroshi manages as best he can. There's been a lot of training himself to get off quickly in the usual lukewarm showers because that's all the more of a chance he gets. He doesn't have any particular hang-ups, though, and considers it perfectly normal. It would be nice if he could draw things out a little more sometimes, but the brief moments of pleasure are still a welcome relief from the exhausting day-to-day life that Keikou offers.

Yakobu

He's also one of the more normal ones about the whole thing. Yakobu is overall comfortable with his sexual needs. After all, he's plenty willing to crack jokes about it, even in front of others. He doesn't always have the privacy to deal with things when he wants to, but he's not ashamed of the act at all. It's one nice thing he gets that doesn't require anything but his hand and his imagination, and that's enough of a reason to be fine with it. Everyone jacks off, right? So it's no big deal at all.

Jaibo

He doesn't like to do that kind of thing on his own. Despite a very high sex drive, Jaibo tends to be highly uncomfortable with getting himself off. He'll go to his current obsession for sex whenever possible— even if they're not the one to touch him, he at least doesn't have to think when he's focused on them. That said, he still ends up doing things himself fairly often, out of sheer necessity. It never ends well; past abuse leaves a lingering sense of deeply buried shame that Jaibo can never quite get over.

ooh i've never heard of LHC before but it looks cool, i might be getting into a new fandom bc of your writing (again haha). anyway, i've got a meta/analysis question....how would you rank the kids in terms of who has the best/worst relationships with their family?

No one here has had a very good childhood. Keikou is a disaster of rampant poverty, unsafe conditions, and parents who no doubt have to spend every waking moment working just to keep their kids fed and clothed. Even the most well-intentioned families on the list would end up at least a little neglectful just because they don't have the time or means to properly care for their children.

Also, disclaimer that a lot of them don't have explicitly mentioned family situations, so a good chunk of this is reading into their behavior/lifestyle for implications of how their home life might be.

"Best" Relationship

Tamiya — All around, Tamiya has by far the best relationship with his family of all of them. He has two parents who have his best interests in mind, a younger sister who he's close to, and a relatively stable situation overall. The inherent sacrifices and problems of their environment are still present, but at least his family is trying.

Kaneda — He mentions having an older mother who he "loves down to her wrinkly little fingers". My guess is that she's his only parent, and has both given her best effort to raise him and had to work herself half to death to do it. He also has an overall good relationship, but it's nowhere near as stable as Tamiya's family situation.

Dafu — In the same chapter of Bokura, he expresses fondness for his family as well. The lack of specific mentions (and his general loneliness levels) leads me to think that his home life is somewhat neglectful, but likely not on purpose. He probably has a "normal" household that doesn't have the time to pay much attention to him.

Kanon — We know next to nothing about her backstory. I get the feeling that she's better off than the boys, but how off her behavior is seems to hint at a highly sheltered childhood. I think her relationship with her family is overall decent, but her parents are the type of paranoid that means they've isolated her more than is healthy.

Yakobu — He also gives me "childhood neglect" vibes. My headcanon is that he's from a large family that's struggling to get by, and the sheer amount of kids to manage means that Yakobu had to stand out to get any attention. His relationship with his family isn't bad, exactly, but he definitely doesn't have a stable or reassuring home life.

Dentaku — Considering his single-minded focus on mathematics and his apparent lack of social skills or ability to form emotional connections, I see yet another neglect case here. It's likely that he's been encouraged to stick to only his academic skills (at the cost of a normal childhood) as that gives him some chance of a better future.

Raizou — All we see of his family is his dad, who's... well-intentioned, probably, but far from supportive or kind. I think he's a single father who's trying his best, but is also strict, harsh, and has very firm ideas of how his son is supposed to behave. He's also clearly one for physical discipline, which means Raizou is at least used to being hit.

Zera — And here, things take a massive turn for the worse! Zera absolutely despises his family, and the level of emotional neglect and abuse he's experienced is a lot of why he's Like That. He has divorced parents, abandonment issues from his father, and routine mistreatment from his mother. Zera knows he's not wanted.

Nico — We know he has the worst financial state of the kids, and his mother literally says "giving birth to you was the biggest mistake of my life" when he was in the hospital post-eye incident. And judging from his utter lack of self-esteem, it's not hard to guess he's grown up in an environment where his existence was treated like a burden.

Jaibo — Uhhhh... yeah. We know his dad is a doctor (and that Jaibo steals drugs and money from him), and Jaibo's everything hints at extreme sexual abuse. I don't think it's a stretch to assume he's had the most horrific childhood of the kids, and I can't imagine he has anything resembling a positive relationship with his father.

"Worst" Relationship

Yep! The prequel starts out with them at age 10–11-ish, and by the main manga, they're in their second year of middle school. And yeahhh... dropping out after middle school is definitely a common thing in Keikou. High school isn't mandatory in Japan, and I can imagine a number of the boys just... wouldn't bother. It's easier to make money and support themselves and their families if they're working full-time, so yep, dropping out is going to happen. oAo

Zera

Finishing school is really the best he can hope for. Post-Hikari Club, Zera doesn't have a lot to rely on. He's more or less friendless (outside of Nico and Jaibo's attempts to be around him), and also so utterly ashamed of everything that happened in the club's final days that he'd just as soon never face any of them again. As much as he despises the idea of living a pointless, dead-end life like everyone else in Keikou, he doesn't have other options. Going to a semi-decent college would be the best thing possible, at this point, so Zera resigns himself to that fate.

Nico

Considering that he was working a part-time job (and probably forced to by his mother) when he was eleven-ish, I doubt he's making it through high school. Nico drops out as soon as he can, because making enough money to eat on a semi-regular basis ranks higher in his life than finishing school. If his relationship with Zera isn't completely ruined by that point, he'd try to stay in contact, but other than that and Tamiya's insistent attempts to reach out, Nico also cuts contact with most of the club. He has bigger things to worry about than his old friendships, after all.

Raizou

He's in a good enough situation that he can afford to get through high school, even though life only gets harder for him as he grows up. Raizou has always had issues with being bullied and not allowed to be himself, and those only worsen as he nears adulthood. His dad's expectations keep getting higher, meaning that he doesn't have much of a choice in what he does. He'll stay close friends with Yakobu no matter what (those two are together for life, more or less), but after the way the Hikari Club ended, he'd just as soon avoid the rest of those scary boys from here out.

Kaneda

Unfortunately, Riku doesn't really know what he wants to do with himself. He'd like to finish high school to make his mom happy (and because he can't think of anything better to do), but there's nothing in the future that he's particularly hopeful for. He's most likely to stick close to Tamiya and Dafu— and probably base his decisions on whatever those two end up doing. He's also perfectly willing to leave the Hikari Club behind forever, and doesn't want to keep talking to any of the former members outside of his prior friends. Those years were a living nightmare, after all.

Dentaku

He's absolutely staying in school. Dentaku's skill with mathematics and engineering means that he actually has a chance (however slim) of a good job and an easier life than he grew up with. Getting through high school and passing the entrance exams to a decent college is all he can hope for, and he's relying on his talents to get him through it. He'd be willing to stay in touch with whoever reaches out, especially Zera, but he's probably not going to make an effort unless someone else does first. School is his number one focus from that point on.

Dafu

Like Kaneda, he doesn't really have any plans of his own— and he ends up following Tamiya's choices too. Katsuya hasn't figured out any personal goals yet, so sticking with his friends is really the best thing he can think to do. Of the three of them, he's the most likely to drop out of high school at some point, but that chance is still pretty slim. A peaceful life sounds best after everything that's happened (though he doesn't have much hope for himself and what the future will hold). All he wants is to get by and never have to think about how badly things could have ended ever again.

Tamiya

Once the club is gone, Hiroshi has a pretty normal life ahead of him. He has goals and plans for what to do next, and finishing high school is an obvious part of that— his parents have always prayed he'd succeed, and he doesn't want to disappoint them. Even if he's living like every other normal, boring person in Keikou, Hiroshi just wants to have a stable life. As for the rest of the club, he stays close to Kaneda and Dafu for sure, never stops trying to reach out to Nico, and keeps minimal contact with most of the others. Jaibo and Zera are the only two he really wants to avoid.

Yakobu

It's fifty-fifty on if he'll make it through high school or not. Yakobu doesn't mind the idea of finishing it, but he also doesn't have any real reason to stick around if it gets too tough. If he thinks he can find a decent job outside of school, or if his grades dip too low, there's nothing stopping him from giving up and moving on to whatever option comes next. He's one of the most willing to stay in contact with the club, as a whole, especially if the situation there never got too dangerous. Of course, Raizou will stay his best friend no matter what. Those two are near-inseparable.

Jaibo

Another definite drop-out. Jaibo has so many problems that there's a good chance he'd get himself expelled eventually, anyway. He's not stable enough to manage higher education, and he doesn't particularly care to try. He'll stick with his dad for as long as he can get away with it, all while keeping up the same disturbing practices he always has. He'll trail after Zera if the two's relationship wasn't completely ruined, but Jaibo is bound to be moving on to new targets as well— after all, he needs someone to pay for his needs once his dad gets tired of supporting him.

Zera

There's a moment of shocked, vulnerable disbelief before he manages to collect himself and return to his usual "emperor" behavior. Once he's pulled it together, Zera is just plain obnoxious. He gives a dramatic acceptance complete with egotistical bragging that it's only natural you'd come to him eventually... but his voice is shaking, and he's nowhere near as eloquent as usual. Internally, Zera is panicking. He doesn't know what to do with this or how he can fit it into his plans, but there's no way he could refuse. His desperate teenage boy side is taking over fast.

Dentaku

He completely freezes up. Dentaku has always had an image of himself as someone detached from his peers and unappealing as a romantic option, so when you confess, his whole brain comes to a stop. Honestly, he wants to run and hide. The fact that it's the person he's been absorbed by for so long confessing their feelings hits him so hard he can hardly think, and in the end, he can't really get words out. He likely flees the scene and regrets it later, too overwhelmed by a situation that there are no calculations or preparations for. He just doesn't know how to handle it.

Tamiya

As much as he likes to think he'd play it cool in a situation like this, Hiroshi is very much a mess. He's stammering, blushing, and trying to find the words to accept without looking like an idiot. This is the kind of thing he'd never dared to wish would happen, but it's kind of embarrassing that you're the one doing the confessing. It's not very manly for him to be the one standing there and panicking, is it? Even so, there's no way he could say no to this. Zera's going to kill him for getting into a relationship, but that hardly matters when he's this giddy with excitement.

Yakobu

To cover up how nervous he is, Yakobu resorts to his usual. His response to your confession is probably going to be some awful pun or joke, but it's still a yes... and that's just his way of showing that he's seriously overwhelmed with happiness. He didn't think he'd ever actually get this kind of attention, especially not from you. And that means he's all kinds of caught off guard. Goofing around is easier and safer than showing his true feelings, so Yakobu acts the way he does in the hopes you won't notice that he's basically shaking with nerves from the situation.

Jaibo

He wants to feel like he's finally getting exactly what he wants and trapping you into having feelings for him... but instead, there's a sharp, unfamiliar stab of a feeling that Jaibo can't place. He'll happily accept your confession with his usual laugh and a promise that he won't be letting you go, and yet, after the moment has passed, he's feeling uncomfortably unsure of himself. Now that he has you, there's the problem of keeping you. And that's all he can think about. Jaibo obsesses over the people he "loves", and genuine feelings for someone only makes that much worse.

Zera

He does not know what to do with himself. Zera is one who's prone to obsessive tendencies, so when he gets a crush, he fixates so heavily it's kind of sad. He'll start scheming all kinds of ridiculous and over-planned plots to win their attention or prove that he's the superior romantic option, but all the while, he's also driving himself frantic with paranoia and fear of what these feelings could do to him. Blaming his crush for affecting him so much is almost bound to happen— and he's never going to approach them. His ego could never take any kind of rejection.

Nico

Having a crush is a horrific conflict for the poor boy. On one hand, Nico is so desperate for their praise and attention that it almost makes him sick, but on the other, he's so deep in self-loathing and insecurity that he sees himself as having no chance of getting anywhere with it. In response, he gets aggressive. In the club and at home, Nico grows snappy, tense, and short-tempered. All he can think about is having any chance of acceptance by them, but it feels entirely hopeless. And that hurts. So in the end, Nico kind of just shuts down. He'd never find the guts to get close.

Dentaku

At first, he almost doesn't like it. Dentaku is the type who keeps his life focused on things other than romance. He's a teenage boy who's highly susceptible to his feelings, yes, but he knows he's not exactly appealing. That leads him to shut himself off from all of those things and try to convince himself he's content with his calculations and nothing else— so when he does have a crush, it wrecks him. Dentaku finds himself distracted and unable to focus, frantic to find something to occupy his mind enough that he can't think about it all. He's not brave enough to ever approach them.

Tamiya

As you'd expect, he's more or less the most normal about it. The crush doesn't affect Hiroshi as much as it does some of the others. Or that is to say, he's capable of pushing it out of his mind... most of the time. Whenever he's faced with any kind of real proximity to them, he suddenly can't hold it together so well at all. The always-cool Hiroshi turns into a blushing, stammering, lovestruck mess, struggling to keep himself from looking like a fool. He's moderately likely to try to reach out, but it depends on if he manages to work up the courage to actually do it.

Yakobu

When Yakobu gets a crush, he's more immature than ever. He's very likely to approach the person... but he's also likely to ruin his own chances by playing up the "class clown" role a little (or a lot) more than he should. Cracking jokes, teasing, and playing little pranks are how he shows his affection, and Yakobu will try to get close because he can't live with himself if he doesn't. He wants his crush's attention more than anything, so badly it almost hurts. He knows he'll never have a chance at a real relationship with someone as great as them, so he satisfies himself with that alone.

So... a normal rich classmate would be highly unusual, considering that their whole school is deep in the poverty hole. >.> Thus, we're going to say that Reader is like... maybe a transfer student who highkey wound up at the wrong school.

He does not trust you. At all. Zera has already had plenty of bad experiences with his peers being awful to him, and the "kindness" coming from someone who's so clearly better off feels either patronizing or like some kind of trap. So he's kind of a jerk about it. He'll ignore you as much as possible, refuse to "humor" you, and more... but when the offer of a free meal comes up, sometimes, much to his humiliation, Zera can't quite make himself resist. Eventually, he comes to the conclusion that he needs to use you, since you'd clearly offer help for the things he can't get otherwise.

Nico

He's uncomfortable, tense, and terrified. Nico isn't used to much in the means of attention at all, let alone from someone who's trying to be nice to him. Especially because you're rich, he's nervous to get close to you. What happens when someone with money, when someone important finds some fault in him? And yet, Nico is still terribly weak to attention, and your efforts to befriend him work better than is immediately obvious. He feels like he owes you for every nice thing you do— and that only becomes increasingly apparent as he gets more attached.

Raizou

He doesn't really know what to think, especially at first, but all it really takes to win him over is a few nice gifts. Raizou isn't the type to consider his choices too deeply, so once he decides that you're a nice person, it's not too hard for him to accept the attention. He's still a little nervous around you, though. It feels kind of dangerous to be friends with someone who lives so much better than he does... though, Raizou doesn't think about that part too often. He'll try to drag you into being friends with Yakobu too if you aren't already. His best friend needs more attention too!

Kaneda

For a long, long time, he's terrified of your intentions. Riku doesn't know what you want from him— you're clearly above him in every regard, so why are you spending so much time and effort on someone so pathetic? He freezes up whenever you approach him, can't get words out at all, and would even try to avoid you if it wasn't for the free meals. Getting something nice to eat once in a while is (barely) worth the stress... though, it's not like he has people outside of Tamiya and Dafu being friendly with him very often. That part is kind of nice too, even nervous as he is.

Dentaku

He's nervous about it. People don't typically approach Dentaku for anything other than homework help. Having someone openly and willingly trying to be friends with him is strange, to begin with, and knowing that you're way better off than anyone else at the school only makes that stranger. So Dentaku is more than a little on guard, at first. A part of him really wants to get closer to you, both for the friendship and for access to better things, but he still kind of worries about what could happen to him if you have ulterior motivations too. Still, he slowly warms up to you.

Dafu

He has a crush on you within a week. Dafu isn't used to people being nice to him, which has the unfortunate effect of making him extra responsive to whatever kindness gets thrown his way. He's impressed because of how well you live, of course, but what's really getting him is that you're the one making an effort here. You're trying to be his friend, and that has Dafu's brain shorting out a little. In general, he tries to refuse your offers to buy things for him (it feels too rude to accept), but every so often, the temptation of a hot, filling meal is a little too strong to resist.

Tamiya

Even when he knows you're a lot better off than he is, Tamiya tries to treat you the same as he would anyone else. He feels like it would embarrass you if he acted weird about your financial status, and it's also just plain not natural to him to change how he acts around someone because of something like money. Still, he can't help but feel a little awkward when the difference in your lifestyles is somehow pointed out. He also doesn't like accepting too many free offers— even taking a meal from you doesn't sit too well with him. You're trying to be nice, he knows that, but it's still...

Yakobu

If you try to be friends with him, he's eating up the attention in no time. Yakobu also doesn't think too much about his choices, so he doesn't so much as pause to wonder if you have some kind of ulterior motive in reaching out to him. He's so excited to have a new friend that, in addition, he kind of forgets his manners too. And Yakobu treats you just like anyone else. He'll poke fun at you for being rich sometimes, but it's unfortunately obvious that he has no idea how to be polite about it. Either that, or you'll get the feeling that he's forgotten about your differences entirely.

Jaibo

As you'd expect, Jaibo is a brat about it. Your wealth doesn't have anything to do with it— he's just being nasty because you decided you want to make friends, or something stupid like that. Jaibo doesn't take well to being approached. If he doesn't have any interest in you to start with, he's just going to make himself awful to see what happens. It's only if you persist and stick around, and remain stubbornly kind to him that he starts to feel differently... and at that point, he's just getting uncomfortable and a little bit nervous. It's weird to have someone sticking to him like this.

Honestly, I'm of the opinion that one of the fun points of canon is that they're all stupid straight boys, and that's generally what I go with. There's a certain level of puberty-brained stupidity in them that I think is pure straight teenager energy. Yes, debatably including Jaibo. Although he's complex enough to be an essay on his own...

Despite that all, I do think that they could shift a little as they grow up. People discover things about themselves as they age, so I'm open to most headcanoning on the subject for their older selves.

To do some quick speculation/personal thoughts on what they'd be like when they're older...

Zera — Dumbass straight boy for life. The stuff with Jaibo was more of a power fantasy for him than actual attraction— while he will have physical relations with men if it benefits him, his actual attraction lies with women. Most likely gray-aro, not forming feelings easily.

Nico — He's attracted to anyone who's nice to him. Probably demi with very little preference for gender. Has some internalized homophobia, though, and has to come to terms with any crushes he gets on guys— convincing himself it's more than just loyalty.

Raizou — He likes the idea of men sometimes, but in practice, he feels safer around more feminine people. Femininity has always been more attractive to him, although he does have to sort out whether he's into someone or just envying how they present themself.

Kaneda — He also has some internalized bad feelings about it, but he does kind of like the idea of a stronger guy protecting him. Probably had a crush on Tamiya at some point that he wasn't quite aware of. Really, he's attracted to anyone who makes him feel safe.

Dentaku — Quite possibly ace-leaning. He's so preoccupied with his machinery and studies that it's hard for him to focus on real people very often. Girls are pretty and nice, but it's hard for him to picture himself actually having a relationship even when he wants to.

Dafu — Women will always be his distinct preference (and he never quits being stupid about it), but there comes a time when it dawns on him that men are really handsome too. And from there, he's the definition of a bisexual disaster. The horniness never ends with him,

Tamiya — Also mostly straight. Would consider a relationship with a guy if the chemistry was there, though. He's so go-with-the-flow that it doesn't really matter to him who he's attracted to. Doesn't think much about things like sexuality— what happens, happens.

Yakobu — Pan, most likely. He spends a long time thinking he's only into women... but has an eventual moment of realization that he usually gets along better with other guys. It realy comes down to whoever makes him happy, with sexual attraction coming second.

Jaibo — Trying to make this brief*, he's most drawn to men because of trauma reasons, but because of those same trauma reasons, it'd be easier for him to have a healthy relationship with someone who's not male. Sex doesn't mean much to him; it's just a means of control.

Kanon — Aroace. Having a robot for a lover was easier for her because she didn't have to have the attraction that people expect of her. Likes relationships and having a partner, but avoids it because she always feels pressured to return the other person's feelings.

Zera

You've heard of "pillow princess", now get ready for "pillow emperor". In true Zera fashion, he tends to want to just lie back and give you orders. Although he's used to being the more controlling party and can keep relatively good control over himself for a little while, it's very possible to fuck some adorable sounds out of him. Little whines are the most common— and Zera will do everything possible to hide them. However, he's a natural rambler, and this does kick in during horny moments too. It's very possible to have him babbling all kinds of embarrassing things if you push him far enough, much to his later shame and indignation.

Nico

On his own, he'd probably default to being a service top with a heavy emphasis on the service part. All Nico can think about is what he's doing to please you— to a point where he'll ignore his own needs and pleasure almost entirely. He almost feels guilty for receiving anything himself. In terms of noise, he's determined to be quiet and not do anything too dramatic, but when you're touching him, that doesn't always work. He's prone to crying during sex when you're too nice to him, and he's clingier than he wants to admit. It's very hard for Nico to ask for what he wants... which makes spoiling him senseless all the more fun.

Raizou

Generally, he's pretty loud. As in, squealing, moaning, and trying to look as cute and eager as possible. Raizou is another one who wants to be spoiled, so he also tends to lie back and let you ravish him. Because it feels a little too "manly", topping can be difficult for him— not that he dislikes it, it's just a slight mental hangup where he's afraid you won't see him as pretty and sweet if he gets too carried away. As long as you're treating him like he's precious and sweet, Raizou can eagerly go along with most things. He wants to look good for you, though, so he hesitates to try anything that might make him ugly or unseemly in your eyes.

Kaneda

Riku is so shy and viciously embarrassed by every little reaction his body has that getting him to do anything but cover his face and let things happen is basically impossible. The most noise you'll get out of him are little whimpers, squeaks, and yelps— but shame is also a pretty big filter that keeps him quiet. That, and he'll bite himself until he bleeds to avoid being loud. He's also so, so clingy. He's always shaking like a baby rabbit and trying to hide from you, so it's all the cuter when he manages to pry his hands away from his face and hold onto you instead. Trembles all over when he comes and begs you not to look at him.

Dentaku

Debatably, he has the lowest sex drive of all of them. While people are pretty and his body has certain ideas, Dentaku isn't quite as invested in horny things as his peers. When he does do things with you, though, he's most interested in doing whatever seems interesting at the time. He can top or bottom pretty easily... although intimacy never fails to leave him a flustered mess. The idea that someone wants to do this kind of thing with him is still staggering. In terms of noise, he's mostly quiet; since his brain is running a mile a minute at any given moment, he's not always present enough for louder sounds to form or escape.

Dafu

At first, he feels like he "should" be topping, since that's what he's most used to seeing in porn. Dafu is very easy to sway, however, and he won't hold that opinion for long. He really doesn't care what he's doing so long as you're touching him. This sweetheart is also a total romantic. He wants to hold your hand, make eye contact, and cuddle plenty during and after. Volume-wise, he's pretty loud. You get a lot of shaky, squeaky moans and gasps whenever you're touching him, and he's prone to begging when he gets too excited. Dafu also adores overstimulation. He wants to go for as many rounds as his body can take before it's over.

Tamiya

Definitely the most versatile of the boys, and definitely the most relaxed. He's comfortable topping or bottoming, for the most part, and will usually just go along with what sounds good to you. Intimacy is always light-hearted with him. Yakobu isn't good at holding a serious moment, so giggly, casual sex is common. He's just happy to be close to you and doing something that feels so good.

Jaibo

Yikes. There are hangups here that probably should involve therapy. For the most part, Jaibo controls everything he does. His volume, level of assertiveness, and role in topping or bottoming are all catered to how he thinks he'll please you the most— however, one constant is that he's always trying to do things to you, not the other way around. Jaibo sees sex as a tool for getting attention and unpacking that is difficult. Focusing on him makes him uncomfortable, especially when he starts losing control. At that point, he's naturally pretty loud, oddly unsure, and very, very clingy. And all of that makes him want to pull away and hide.

Zera — A library date would be very much appreciated. Going somewhere where he can show you all kinds of subjects and teach you new things is great for Zera's ego... and he genuinely enjoys it. He's going to be rambling about weird dictators and robotics the whole time, but it's obvious he's truly, innocently excited for once.

Nico — Anything where you spoil the life out of him is both too much and the exact kind of thing he wants but can't ask for. A nice, filling dinner that you pay for, a walk where you talk and hold his hand the whole time, and going home to watch a movie while cuddled up on the couch, simple as it is, is more than Nico thought he'd ever have.

Raizou — Taking him shopping with have the poor boy practically vibrating with excitement. Especially if it's for clothes or makeup. Let him dress up while you praise how cute he looks in every outfit, and Raizou is as happy as it gets. And even if you don't buy anything, in the end, the experience is exactly what he enjoys the most.

Kaneda — Being outside where everyone can see him makes him nervous, so indoor dates are the best. Sleepovers where he can spend the night cuddled up to you and talking about endless dumb things are probably Riku's favorite. They actually make him relax a little, which you're always going to be happy to see.

Dentaku — He's the type who likes quality time best, so just sitting with him while he works on a project and asking questions is all he'd ask for. Even if you have no idea what's going on, showing interest in the things that make him happy means a lot. Dentaku will be grateful for any attention you give him, and he likes having time to work.

Dafu — He wants to do something sweet and romantic, like go out for dinner somewhere nice... by Keikou standards. It'd mean a lot to him if he could pay for it himself, but that's not likely to happen. Dafu wants to be a good boyfriend, and stereotypical fluffy, romantic dates sound more appealing than anything else to him.

Tamiya — He likes something more classic, like going to see an action movie with you, best. Getting out and doing something that he wouldn't normally be able to is always exciting for Hiroshi, but really, anything where he gets to spend time with you is good. He's also fully in favor of seeing what you're into, regardless of the genre.

Yakobu — If you take him to a comedy act, there's no way he could be happier. Even though he's going to laugh loudly enough to get weird looks from other people, and even though he'll repeat the jokes for way too long, the absolutely glowing smile on Yakobu's face makes it worth it. He'll go on for ages about how grateful he is for you.

Jaibo — Honestly, he's never really thought about it. The closest thing to a "date" Jaibo can think of doing is something sexual. He's never really had a concept of being romanced, after all. He'd also probably like just staying home and spending time with you, but the idea of non-sexual attention for so long is totally foreign to him.

Kanon — She's okay with anything involving spending time with you, but something like going to a garden or a music store where she can play the piano for you would be greatly appreciated. Kanon likes calm, simple dates that don't involve anything fancy; just being by your side and doing something nice is all she can ask for.
