I just answered an ask about I thought Abigail/Adil and Tally/Gerit will continue in season two. I was wondering what do you think? First whether the show will continue either pairing, and second, whether you liked either?
I don’t know if this is what you want to hear, but I gotta be really honest: to me, Abigail and Adil had the chemistry of a rock next to a piece of cardboard. Separately, they are very compelling characters, but my goodness their interactions were dry at best, forced at worst. It might be that the writing was shallow. They were basically forced together by proximity alone, and then there wasn’t any good reason for them to be together—no dangerous situation to force them to get closer. Their worldviews are diametrically opposed, and the writers did nothing to bridge that. Or it could be that the actors just didn’t have a strong connection. My hope for season two is that the writers either build up their relationship more intentionally with more points of connection and higher stakes, or that they just abandon it and give Abigail someone she has more natural chemistry with. She definitely had chemistry with the boys she hooked up with at Beltane, so we know it’s possible.
Tally and Gerit are another story. Their chemistry is undeniable, and I enjoyed when they were onscreen together. Clearly, though, Gerit has some communication challenges. Between not telling Tally that he was engaged and then not communicating his plan to include her intimately with him and his spouse, he really dropped the ball. Witch culture is more open sexually, clearly (and for solid reasons), so I don’t think there was anything wrong with Gerit assuming a threesome could be an option—but you gotta communicate, buddy! Not every girl wants to share her partner with someone else!
Anyhow, Gerit is now in at least a five-year commitment with his spouse, and Tally is now a biddy. It doesn’t seem like biddies have a very active sex life, and if they do, they always have voyeurs (which some people are into, I guess), not to mention Alder always close by. (Side note: I wonder if the biddies having sex boosts their power which then boosts Alder’s youth. More info needed.) Gerit seems like a good guy, but I don’t know if he’s so open as to hook up with biddy Tally. But maybe the writers will fight ageism, and Gerit will be so moved by Tally’s sacrifice that he can’t help himself.
Or maybe Tally will become un-biddied, as some have suggested. If that’s the case, I do think her experience might bring her new wisdom and maturity that takes her beyond Gerit. He’s a good guy, but he seems like a simple guy. Even if Tally hadn’t turned into a biddy, I think she was already on her way to outgrowing him. She was learning and growing so quickly, and I think she needs someone who can both handle and amplify her power and joy. I’m not sure if Gerit’s the guy for the job. But maybe he’ll surprise me—if he can figure out the spouse situation.
Honestly, I have very ambivalent feelings about Tally becoming a biddy. On one hand, it felt like it came out of nowhere, and I did not like when it happened in the finale. On the other hand, I kind of want the writers to own it and to navigate its implications in season two—not to cop out of the decision they’ve made. Whatever they choose will have implications for Tally and Gerit, though I would venture to guess that either way Gerit will now be a smaller part of her story.
We shall see...

I think the three main romance storylines of Motherland: Fort Salem are a bit rushed and clunky, BUT also very compelling to watch, both because the people involved have great chemistry, and because the three relationships are indispensable to the overall plot and world building.
Obviously, this is the first season, and they have A Lot to address and set up, and not a lot of time to do so with only ten episodes, so I don’t think the pacing issues are unforgivable at all. But I am hoping that if we get a season 2, they’ll slow down and let things develop a bit more organically.
