For the ask game- a dragon who likes conspiracy theories, and a dragon who keeps trying to convince them that conspiracy theories aren't real?
- @dragonflyght-rising
oh boy this is basically just talamir and aquila's dynamic but aquila doesn't argue outside his thoughts LMAO
Tumblr media
talamir is the leader of eleven's unity, a large cult with the goal of making the deities all work together again. he thinks this will work.
Tumblr media
aquila is talamir's personal guard, and often has to listen to his ramblings on the topic and pretend he agrees. he did not know what he was signing up for.

A short sleep has millions of dreams. Full of inconceivable pleasure and pain. Hell and heaven are in the mind. We wail, then sing. Only grief is left.
this is Talamir (the second of his kind oops i did not name him.) he's some sort of magic user wizard guy, i just wanted to draw a cool toothy smile today so that's what happened. Talamir is an unbred fully gened gen one, up on the AH for 6k gems.

25-30 for miss aurora and dagger!
what stories do they like to tell? what stories do they like to hear?
aurora doesn't tell stories overly much- she's much more keen to listen, but she'll listen to any story you've got! just make the experience memorable. tragedy, comedy, romance, silly life anecdote- if you mean it she's listening
dagger likes to tell stories of community, and the family therein- he'll just mix those stories up with whatever his kids are feeling that day to hook their attention. he's not much of a storyteller but he has a very deep and soothing voice that his kids like to hear c:
who do they miss?
aurora misses ripley, most obviously, but she also misses her friend lassri lightkith very dearly. doubly so now that she knows what happened to her. she misses the friendship she had with another friend, remus, before things got difficult between them. most of the sisterhood she misses dearly.
dagger misses lhazaar, one of his dearest friends back on riedra, who was someone he was considering marrying- not because he wanted to, but because being with her felt less awful because of their closeless. she was the first person in his life to question the path of inspiration. this questioning had her taken by the inspired! and set him on his own path of questioning and fear that ended up taking him off riedra entirely in the end and into a brand new life. he wouldn't have made it without her and he misses lhazaar every day.
how do they mourn?
aurora Doesn't! and it's a problem. not because she's Too Strong but because she goes into fervent, blatant denial unless confronted with direct evidence she cannot find a way around, multiple times and traumatically.
dagger has become someone who mourns. fairly regularly and healthily, actually. he's lost friends in his line of work; he takes the time to grieve, properly, memorializes them by planting something hardy in their honor. lhazaar has a tree in his backyard. it warms his heart to see his kids climbing it.
who would they kill? who would they kill for?
aurora would kill nearly anyone who crosses her with no questions asked at this point lmao. she Will kill for ripley and would have killed for philomena in an instant if her pos husband wasn't still someone she cared for.
dagger is reserved with his weapons for things that aren't fiends, given that his job is mostly safeguarding against both them and undead! but he wouldn't hesitate against agents of the dreaming dark! (uh oh!) his family are the first that he'd kill for, basil, lia, cloak, talamir, trial by fire, and [REDACTED], followed by the majority of his coworkers who he thinks highly of
who would they save? who would they be saved by?
aurora would Furiously insist that she isn't the one who should be saved, she does the saving, but in reality i think starrin stands a good chance if he can overcome his own sins :^)
dagger has been saved, primarily by lhazaar, cloak and [REDACTED], and now it's his turn to save others :3
what do they seek out from others?
aurora seeks out very little from others and it surprises her when people give her things oops
dagger seeks out community and fellowship!

A Long Road Chapter 13 Ficbit - Sensible
Talia’s read the histories. But I imagine no one’s talked about it. It... hurts too much. “I don’t know all Alberich did; I was too busy killing Tedrels to stay alive, and then trying to Heal anyone I could.
But he and Kantor held their post, kept Selenay alive, when I know - gods, I know! - they wanted to charge into the fray right after our King. They loved Sendar. But they loved Valdemar, and they did their duty. So yes. I know how a man can do what will hurt him and those he loves, because there is no better choice.”
Talia nodded once, eyes dark in a way that said she was committing words to memory, marking souls that still bore unhealed wounds.
Yes. She needs to know. “I don’t think I’ve ever hated being a Healer as much as I did that day,” Crathach mused. “The Tedrels killed Taver. Talamir wanted to follow him. But I couldn’t let him. Valdemar had lost its King, and Selenay was so young. We couldn’t lose the Monarch’s Own. So I hardened my heart, and made the only choice that would save our land. And I wept later.”
Talia let out a slow breath. “We’re going to talk about this later, old friend. You need it.” She set her mug down, and tilted her face toward the fire to warm each side in turn. “So if we’re going to let them sort themselves out, we need to lighten Wei Wuxian’s duty. Can we offer the Wens sanctuary, given the risks they’ve warned us of?”
“Battlefields are as close as I’ve ever gotten to understanding politics,” Crathach mused. “Remember that Wei Wuxian and Wen Qionglin have been holding off a siege for two years, and survived three years of war before that. They’re afraid. They’re right to be afraid. But they may not be judging the danger well. Alberich thinks our chances are good.”
“Anyone who’s survived burns, may flinch from a candle-flame,” Talia agreed. “I’ll discuss this with the Queen and Prince-Consort, and then the Council. I want to take them in. But it would help if I had reasons beyond ‘we need more friendly mages’. Why would giving them sanctuary help Valdemar? And would they be able to live here? Companion’s Choice is a matter of law. But they’re afraid of guardian spirits.”
Crathach held up a contradicting finger. “They are properly cautious. I’ve been on the battlefield when Companions cut loose. And you’ve seen Rolan attack. Being wary of creatures as smart as you are and able to stomp you into bloody paste is a sensible reaction.”
That earned him an amused snort. Good.
“And if either of those two were actively afraid of Companions, they wouldn’t have let those young ones bumble all over them,” Crathach went on. “I suggest we take them - and Lan Wangji, and the Nie - at their word: they wanted to be sure Kellen’s Choice was voluntary. Wouldn’t we want the same, if one of our Border youngsters got swept up as a Karsite Army recruit?”

Haha you thought I was joking.
Anyway everything is pwyw, except Ogden, who is on the AH for 3kg as he’s a fully gened xyx g1 unbred with art. Talamir is a Naomi descendant, and the rest are just neat.
Link’ll be in the reblogs.

Another batch of doodles. Technically I drew the first two a bit back but I never posted them (in part because I don’t really like the first one tbh) but shh. A more varied bunch this time, with three Vagabonds and a Sect member to go with the usual Clan members. (if you can’t handle body horror and that kinda stuff... maybe don’t look at the last one too closely)
List of dragons + where to find them in my lair after the read-more!
Clan = Clan of Infinity (Hib Den) Vagabond & Sect = The Vagabonds, Sect of the Shattered Serpent (regular Lair)
Eve (Clan) - Albion (Clan) Iru (Vagabond) - Alvar (Vagabond) Talamir (Clan) - Procyon (Clan) Gild (Clan) Asita (Vagabond) - Chasey (Sect)

I’m still annoyed by the Alberich duology introducing a plot hole so big you could drive a mack truck through it.
Like one of the biggest plot points of the Arrows trilogy is that they don’t have proof of Orthallen’s wrongdoings. The queen and princess trust him. The Heralds that are doing spywork (and some of the others) think he is responsible for some bad shit but they can’t pin it on him. Shit like arranging the murder of Talamir, and maybe even Selenay’s husband’s attempted regicide.
But then we get all sorts of prequel books! Including the two about Alberich, which in we, you know, see Selenay’s courtship with Karathanelan, their marriage, his infidelity, and his regicide attempt. And the spies explicitly find a letter undeniably linking Orthallen and Karathanelan.
It’s found shortly before the attempted regicide and basically gets forgotten as the Heralds rush off to save Selenay. But it still exists. They didn’t lose it. Alberich still has the fucking letter.
Why does Orthallen still have his head on his neck in the original trilogy. Even if the letter can’t prove regicide involvement and only like... prove Orthallen goes behind the Queen’s back to help her husband in very shady shit, why is he not, at the very least, removed from the council and closely watched. Why does Selenary trust him at all.
The only possible explanation is that Alberich and the other Heralds involved just... never told Selenay. Never showed her the letter. Except that doesn’t work either because we see them kvetching about their lack of proof of Orthallen’s wrongdoings!
Proof which they literally have.

Captain Jewel Talamir and macaw Ludo, after an unfortunate series of draws from the Deck of Many Things.
Last December, some of my colleagues complained that they couldn’t find a sexy-guys-with-cute-animals calendar anywhere.
Prompted by this, I hope to make a series of 12 of my male characters in the (semi-) nude, accompanied by their pets/familiars/animal companions/special mounts/et cetera.
Here is a sketch for the first one, cambion ethereal pilot Jewel Talamir with his homunculus, the mechanical macaw Ludo.
Original size: A4. Materials: fine liner, pencils.  Finished: 6th of March 2021.

So I’ve been fiddling around my random progen Talamir in the scrying workshop, and I think I’ve just about settled on a gene plan for him! :D I’m just having trouble deciding on what breed to change him too, so I was hoping you all could help me decide!
I ended up going with Morph instead of Butterfly on the Skydancer version too; Butterfly puts this saturated purpley-navy blue colour on the feathers and fur down his back, and I thought it looked a little funny against his thistle primary. Here’s a preview to save people looking it up in the scrying workshop :P

What do you all think? Any help deciding would be appreciated!

this is Talamir.
he has a bit of a story, and i held onto him for a while because of it. the art in his bio was made by me YEARS ago (like 4-5+ years?) when he was still a nocturne. im thinking he was a NotN hatch pretty sure but i could be mistaken. regardless he was returned to me and i decided to do art for him that updated his looks! i wanted to keep his vibe still a BIT nocturne, so i incorporated some of his old looks (his big horns that have been cut down to stumps, his lower mouth teeth, and where his neck fringe would have been originally, that he probably trimmed off.) i really like the idea of dragons who have changed species still maintaining aspects of their old looks, and i tried to reflect that!
ANYWAY Talamir does have an unnamed kid but i really hope someone can give him love and some lore. he’s a fully gened bred gen one, up on the AH for 1500 gems. his transparent portrait is here.

And finally for this recap session there is Otherwise Engaged, by Stephanie Shaver.  This one is another story about the Mad Bard Lelia, though this one is not as shenanigan filled as the others.  It’s about a lover of hers trying to convince her to marry him, and her avoiding the commitment for reasons of politics as well as the fact that she’s recently found out she’s got a fatal condition.  It won’t kill her right away, but she’s only got a few years left.  Yeah... guess we wont be seeing many more stories about her.  But anyway, this story also provides us with a time stamp on her stories, as Selenay is Queen, Elspeth is in her Royal Brat phase, and Talamir is implied to be driven to drink over the whole thing.  That and Talamir dies during the story and by the end Talia has arrived.
There is something in this story that really gets my speculation engines revving.  The rumors about where Elspeth might be fostered to try and break her of her... everything.  Fostership with the Holderkin is one of the rumors oddly enough, and as even the characters in story remark the closest that came to actually happening with Talia coming to raise her.  Still, actually sending the Heir-Presumptive to the Holderkin would have been a colossally bad idea.  Yeah, she wouldn’t have gotten away with much... but the Holderkin aren’t exactly female-friendly, nor do they actually care for their country.  Valdemar is just the only ones willing to put up with them.  So even if the Holderkin didn’t actually break her spirit completely they likely would have tried to marry her off ASAP to somebody in a high position of power in their ranks and ignored any claims from the government that they can’t do that.  Probably would have tried to drive off any Companion that came for her too.
Another rumored place was Lake Evendim, which is another place not likely to put up with shenanigans.  Here Elspeth probably wouldn’t have been deliberately broken, but it could have been amusing to see her come back an angry fisherwoman who is far out of practice with polite society.  That and considering Evendim’s usual problems that also could have resulted in Elspeth the Pirate Hunter.  Which could have been entertaining in it’s own way.  Though I wonder how a magicaly inclined Herald coming into her power on the footsteps of Ma’ar’s old seat of power would have worked out?  OK, realistically speaking it probably wouldn’t have made a difference as the place got anti-magic nuked but good, but it’s still fun to imagine something going horribly wrong.
But it’s the third rumored place that’s really interesting.  The Dhorisha Plains.  OK, first off, why would the Shin’a’in even agree to that?  Their entire job is to keep people out!  OK, maybe Kethry’s tribe would have, but it still seems like a bad idea to send the Heir to live with nomads.  But it’s also interesting when you consider that among the Shin’a’in those with the Mage Gift either are sent off to the Tayledras or become shamans.  And either of those situations is interesting.  First off, sending somebody off for fostering only to have them passed to another group is just facepalming, but then Elspeth actually did learn magic from the Tayledras and live with them for a few years anyway, so arguably this happening would result in the least amount of change.  But what if she’d decided to become a shaman instead?  I’m not sure that the Star-Eyed would appreciate representatives from another god(s) coming to Choose somebody already sworn to Her.  Not unless she was allowed to turn the Companion black like She’d joked about back in Oathbreakers.  Goodness knows what Valdemar would have made of that one.  And Mags thought he had it rough with rumors of him being a “Black Herald”...
Finally on an unrelated subject, there’s another part of the story where Lelia overhears a couple of nobles complaining about the Heir having to be a Herald in the first place.  But beyond them being idiots that are failing to understand their nation’s own history and culture, there’s the fact that one of the complaints they have is they think the Heralds are elitist.  Yeah, I’d say that’s the pot calling the kettle black, except Heralds are known for, well, white.  That and they don’t understand the difference between elitism and having standards.  Which may or may not also apply to certain other upper-class groups that may or may not be involved in real-world politics.  *cough*
