“Darbhanga puddle was eradicated in the desire of high” (high hopes?)
From an interesting article about pokhar in and around Darbhanga  “pond” or “puddle” this is from my rudimentary knowledge a sort of traditional infrastructure. Ponds are dug and filled by rains and floods with fish and wildlife or even farmed with plants like lotuses. Now a lot of things are changing. I just used google translate on this article
http://badalav.com/%E0%A4%AC%E0%A5%81%E0%A4%B2%E0%A4%82%E0%A4%A6%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%AF%E0%A5%8B%E0%A4%82-%E0%A4%95%E0%A5%80-%E0%A4%96%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%B5%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%B9%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%B6-%E0%A4%AE%E0%A5%87%E0%A4%82/
These days, you can not see Lahriasarai's son Gami Pokhar without climbing the roof of a house built around it. Once spread over five acres, this pond today looks like a small terrace. Today, its acreage is hardly an acre. Responsible for its condition are private hospitals and other buildings built around it, which have almost completely swallowed it in the last four-five years. The little water left in the pond is hardly visible next year. Because even that land has been completely sold and construction is going on fast there.
There is a Baba Sagar Das pond. A few months ago, when the garbage was being thrown in it, the water men reached Rajendra Singh to see it. Today that pond has become a flat ground. Pillars of many houses have stood up. Local people say that all this has happened in the last month itself. In Kabra Ghat locality, a pond has been leveled in recent times, the other half has been filled and the third one is being dumped. In a pond in Shahi Mansafi in Ward 25, these days, mud is being spilled from the tractor every night and no one can stop this dangerous game. Another Pokhara, also known as Gami Pokhar, has a hotel standing for many years. This condition of the ponds is in the city of Darbhanga, which was once considered to be the district of ponds. Pug-Pug Pokhars are also a cultural identity here. But these days the existence of almost all the ponds of the city is under threat.
Betta Gami Pokhar (which is three-quarters full these days), located at Laheriasarai, began to be filled four-five years ago. In 2014, it was opposed by local poor people to fill it. The same pond was used for bathing and washing these people. There was also a movement. One day the body of Arun Ram, a youth involved in this movement, was found floating in this pond and his companions were charged with killing him. People say, at that time the encroachers had promised that the pond would not be filled any more, and a ghat would be built on the bank of the pond so that people could take a shower. But nothing happened. The agitating youth got entangled in the case-trial and the noose was tightening on the neck of the pond, which is now dying.
In the meantime a case was filed against the encroachment of this pond. But it is said that the district administration did not put the facts properly in the lawsuit, because many influential people were holding the land there. The administration lost the lawsuit. The then DM then asked to go to the Supreme Court. But immediately he was transferred. The judgment could not be appealed against in the Supreme Court. The interesting fact is that there is a police station just behind this pond, he does not even hear the voiceless scream of the lost tank.
Big ponds like Ganga Sagar, Digghi, Harahi and Mirza Khan pond which have been considered the pride of the city, are also under the watch of the land mafia. In 2010, a plan was made to beautify Diggi Talab. A budget of one crore sixty-five lakhs was made available. But in the meantime, some ward councilors said that encroachment of the city's ponds should be free from encroachment. On the order of the commissioner, an inquiry committee was formed to mark the encroachment on these four big ponds of the city. The first three ponds were measured and notices were issued to the trespassers. They appealed to be measured again. Meanwhile, DCLR was transferred and this entire investigation was stopped, the issue of beautification also went in cold storage.
These days the wholesale fisher market has been erected on the banks of the Ganges Sagar pond, nine hundred years old. It is interesting that 95 percent of the fish in this market are from Andhra Pradesh. Umesh Sahni, chairman of the Wholesale Fish Merchant Association, says it is truly a shame for Darbhanga district with more than 65 hundred ponds and surrounded by two big rivers. But what should we do. Where will the fish be found when garbage is put in the ponds? He took the contract of Ganga Sagar Talab a few years ago. The fish cumin also dropped, but all the fish died before growing up. He lost Rs 20 lakh. Different types of local fish were once found in the ponds of the city, now most of these variety have been destroyed. The fishermen are being harmed. His livelihood is getting over.
There is a puddle in Ward 24 in Shah Supan. There must have been a pond before. For the last several years, the people of the locality pour contaminated water from their homes in it, because there is no other drainage system. Recently, a land mafia caught sight of that dub. On the first January of this year, soil started pouring there. If the puddle was full, people would have no place to drain their dirty water. Therefore the people of the locality protested. He was led by Chhotan Qureshi, an activist of a political party. When he complained at the government level, from January 5, the soil cease there. But on 24 March, the soil started to fall again. Then complained, protested. Closed, but again same thing on April 11. This time all the people together protested strongly. A minister was also informed. So now the work of dumping soil is stopped there. Although Chhotan Qureshi says, he is being lured by money, is also being scared. He is the District General Secretary of Akalit Cell of RJD
The biggest disadvantage due to the dismantling of these ponds is that the cities are in the grip of severe water crisis these days. The water level has gone below 187 feet. Chapakal has failed, boring of 1 HP is also not working. The laying of the pipeline, which began in 2005, has not been completed till date. There are only four tankers in the city, which are proving cumin in the mouth of a camel for a big city like Darbhanga. Now there are some public hand pumps with more depth, which are working. Poet and former journalist Amitabh Bachan says that it is sad, the city is still not alert.
Narayanji Chaudhary, a social activist of the city, started the Talib Bachao Abhiyan in 2013. He collected data related to the city's ponds. People from the poorer sections who were most dependent on these ponds participated in this movement. But today, after three years, they say desperately, we could not save even a single pond. At least 25 ponds were filled in front of my eyes. I gave information from the DM to the commissioner, written and picture of each incident. But unfortunately, action was not taken in even one case. Narayanji Chaudhary says that if the logic of water conservation is not understood then people should at least consider it as a heritage. None of these ponds are less than a hundred years old. Many are centuries old. If the safety of old buildings is important then why not the pond.

Unsafe Buildings Will Be Bulldozed Before Monsoon- BMC
BMC have spotted out many infirm constructions in Hoshanagabad road, Arera Colony and Motia Talab area and decided to demolish them before the monsoon arrives. Aloke Verma, the mayor of BMC has revealed that there 163 locations of the city where there are unsafe buildings which could be possible threat to the citizen. Many of these constructions are illegal and violate the existing real estate rules. According to the mayor many of these constructions along drains and water bodies can lead ruthless flood like Uttarakhand, happened before a couple of years. Uttarakhand witnessed one of the worst disastrous landslide and flood incidents in 2013. In Bhopal too there was an incident like this (not so massive) where seven people had died and in 2016 and over 20,000 were displaced.
Tumblr media
“You get to see most of the unsafe properties in north Kolkata, central and some of the southern areas of the extended city. KMC has already in process of demolition of the Property in north Kolkata and the civic body also has promised to compensate the existing inhabitants of such buildings with safe residence and healthy inhabitance, said Mr. Mahesh Somani, Vice President - NAR India & Chairman : National RERA committee, NAR India..
Sudden clearance of these constructions might cause an opposite effect in the mass. Thus, BMC has requested the district collector to inspect these sites and take apt action. This declaration of the BMC mayor published on a weekly open forum for grievance redressal. Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) records say that 9 buildings out of 213 around the water body have the needed building permissions. It is projected that of the 11.99 acre land of the Talab, more or less 7 acre is under violation comprise 159 houses, 14 hospitals, 20 shops and hotels. There was an instance of hospital lane along Motia Talab, located near Taj-ul-Masajid, the area has wrangling development, miffed with litigation. This construction causes public health risk. Immediate action should be taken against this as the waterfront can’t hold the construction for long.
Tumblr media
BMC’s decision likely to affect many odd private hospitals, pathology labs and nursing homes operating in front of Taj-ul-Masajid. A three storey building in E-11 Arera Colony is built over drain and sanctioned by housing board. BMC is likely do up their sewage and drainage system before the monsoon. Mayor has appointed an independent agency for testing the water as of ponds and lakes to find out the reasons behind death of thousand fishes in the water body.  The civic body of Bhopal also indicated if anyhow natural lives of animals have been disturbed by the human intervenes then suitable action will be initiated. On the contrary BMC has proposed an Entertainment Park and jetty in the Upper lakeside which is supposed to be the biggest man-made lake in India and protected under the UN Ramsar convention. This lake is the source of drinking water of half of the citizen of the state capital. Green activist Subash Pandey has alleged that this project of BMC is likely to impact the water body and contaminate the drinking water as well.

The 'Talabi' #Kalamkari collection Finally after 6 months of hard work my new hand painted kalamkari collection is ready. To me these sarees are not just pieces of clothing they are wearable pieces of art. Every single piece is unique and a labour of love. It all starts with an idea in my head, which is then drawn into a beautiful sketch on paper and there after the skilled kalamakri artists do their magic. You will notice fishes feature predominantly in the 'Talab' collection. Last year whilst I was in Berlin I saw a Japanese themed wall art on a side street which had 4 fishes placed together in a circular disk, it was beautiful. That is what inspired me to create this collection. I may have conceptualised the collection but the credit of making these beauties goes to the unbelievably talented artists. I have said it before and I will say it again this craft is priceless. I spend hours admiring these sarees, every bit of them is stunning. My pictures and videos don’t do justice their beauty. A Kalamakri saree goes through a process of 17 steps before it comes to life. The final product you see is a result of an age old art and is priceless. Everything about the art of kalamakri makes me happy : the crooked lines, smudged edges, the softness of the cloth, the smell of milk and the muted effect of the organic colours. If you look closely you will see slight imperfections like a slight crooked line where the artist's hand may have slipped, or a small spot of colour in the wrong place. These may appear to be imperfect but in my eyes they are the most beautiful part of the kalamkari art. There is some magic in imperfection, and I find them imperfectly beautiful. I hope you all like this new collection as much as I do. Search on for humpback whale entangled in debris off Hawaii
POIPU, Hawaii (AP) — A marine mammal rescue team is looking for an adult humpback whale entangled in debris off the coast of Hawaii.
First responders removed about 2,000 feet (600 meters) of heavy-gauge line from the animal over the weekend when it was off the island of Kauai, The Garden Island newspaper reported. Authorities detached most of the gear but weren’t able to get all of it off before the whale moved on.
Officials plan to try to find the whale and clear more line from it as conditions permit. They will study the removed gear to try to determine what it is and where it came from.
Large whales can become entangled in active or abandoned fishing gear or other ropes and lines in the ocean. The drag from debris can cause whales to use more energy to swim. It can also make it harder for them to feed, potentially leading to starvation. The debris can also injure the animals and trigger infections.
The entangled whale was emaciated, light-colored and rough-skinned, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said. It had patches of rust-colored whale lice, indicating it was distressed.
Graham Talaber, who lives in the community of Koloa on Kauai, noticed rope and a dark spot in the water while filming green sea turtles from with a drone-mounted camera on Sunday. After 10 to 15 minutes of hovering over the area, his worries were confirmed when he saw a humpback at the end of a big net.
“It’s just right there, right in front of you, this massive, bus-size animal struggling for its life,” Talaber said. He asked his father to alert NOAA.
The responder team attached a satellite telemetry buoy to the whale, which will self-release in about a week. The buoy signaled when the whale returned to Kauai waters on Wednesday but the team could not spot the whale.

Cold wind with dense fog, beautiful birds, feeding the fishes and a scenic view, well guys, I'm not talking about any tourist place or famous place but I am talking about Teliya Talab in Mandsaur. You will be mesmerized by the photos that I have taken today. You won't believe that it is our own Teliya Talab. As you all know Mandsaur is famous for the lord Pashupatinath and it has a very interesting story but Teliya Talab also stands among that category, now the Mandsaur Nagar Palika have done tremendous work to make Teliya Talab a beautiful picnic spot and gradually it is becoming Too. Teliya Talab  People were very scared of visiting Teliya talab before because it wasn't that clean at that time and people were also afraid of any unfortunate incident. Teliya Talab Mandsaur But due to the continuous work of Mandsaur Nagar Palika, now the people of Mandsaur have started visiting Teliya Talab at regular time. Now days the temperature in Mandsaur is around 6 to 7 degrees and people are afraid to get out of their home, but to enjoy and just to feel it, we decided to go to Teliya Talab. We went to Teliya Talab at around 11:00 a.m. and what we saw over there is really wonderful. when we reached to Teliya Talab, there was no one and we were alone there so we got a chance to take photograph of anything with freedom because normally Teliya Talab is filled with people and there is too much crowd so you become little cautious and hesitate in taking pictures but today was the different day. Teliya Talab Mandsaur Cold wind was flowing with the dense fog, Birds were searching for their food and enjoying in water along with we also gave some aata (white flour) to fish so the entire atmosphere was so beautiful over there. We got a chance to see some rare birds, I am saying these because these birds are not seen now a days and I am afraid that sooner or later they would become extinct. Teliya Talab Mandsaur I am talking about the crows, how many of you regularly see crow around you. The answer would be NO. The crows are not the rare and extinct, I am only talking about the Mandsaur but in villages you can see many of them. Anyways we got a chance to see various different types of birds who were searching food around the water. Teliya Talab Mandsaur Teliya Talab was very different today from regular days. It was empty, peaceful and beautiful and this really made our day. I would say Teliya talab was very wonderful today. How many of you have visited Teliya Talab? If not than please go and check out.

Dholpur – 4 must-see spots
Dholpur is situated almost midway between Agra and Gwalior, located on National Highway 3. Itis one of the most fascinating regions in Rajasthan. It has seenmany civilizations and is known for its rich cultural heritage. In this article, we will talk about the popular spots in Dholpur, which are worth a visit.
Tumblr media
Dholpur is a city in the eastern most part of the state of Rajasthan. According to the epics, Dholpur was initially known as Dhawalgiri, later on as Dhaulagir, and now as Dholpur. It was a part of the Bharatpur district, but became a separate district in 1982. The city has Agra on its northern side, Morena district of Madhya Pradesh on the southern side, and Karauli on the western side.
Tourism in Dholpur is popular because of the town’s diverse culture and historical grandeur. The best time to visit Dholpur is in the months of October, November, and December. It is quite a small town; however, Dholpur has many renowned tourist sites. The city has a long dated history from the Mahabharata period to the relatively recent Mughal era, and several forts and lakes form a part of it. It is renowned for its alligators and bird watching safaris in Chambal River, heritage monuments, and its Gurdwara.
If you’re planning a tour of this beautiful and exotic small town in Rajasthan, here are the 4 gems of tourism in Dholpur that you need to aim to cover –
 ·            Machkund
Machkund is an ancient sacred place, located at a distance of about 4 km from Dholpur. The name of the place has been kept after Raja Machkund, the 24th ruler of the Suryavanshi Dynasty. This place is lined with beautiful temples dedicated to various deities. According to the legends, Raja Machkund was once sleeping here when demon Kaal Yaman, who was pursuing lord Krishna, accidentally woke him up. The demon was burnt to ashes because of a divine blessing given to Raja Machkund.
 ·            Talab-E-Shahi
Talab-e-Shahi is a pellucid lake at a distance of 27 km from Dholpur. This lake and the palace were originally built to be a shooting lodge for Prince Shah Jahan in the year 1617 A.D. An enthralling tourist spot, this area is also a bird-watchers paradise, as it attracts a variety of winter migratory birds, such as the pintail, red crested pochard, common pochard, tufted duck, and pigeon.
 ·            Ramsagar Sanctuary
Known for rich aquatic life, the Ramsagar Sanctuary is known for fresh water crocodiles, fish, and snakes. Besides the aquatic life, there are also water birds, such as cormorants, moor hen, white-breasted water hen, jacanas, sand piper, green and purple herons, etc. The sanctuary is located around the Ramsagar Lake, and during the winter months, migratory ducks and geese visit the lake as well.
 ·            Van Vihar Sanctuary
Tumblr media
Van Vihar Sanctuaryis one of the oldest wildlife reserves in the area, and is spread over an area of 25 sq. km. The area is popular for its fascinating flora and fauna. Dhok and Khair trees are the dominant trees in the area. It is inhabited by animals like the sambhar, blue bull, chital, wild boar, hyena, sloth bear, and leopard.
