Opus Colors Episode 8 Review: A Childhood Flashback
Wow, this entire episode was a flashback/childhood arc where Kazuya’s childhood was explored. I did not expect this at all, but I actually liked it a lot. It gives depth to Kazuya’s parents, the creation of Perception Art, the stress that comes with it, and how it all affected Kazuya and Kyo’s childhood.
Tumblr media
I actually like the fact that we get to learn more about Kazuya’s parents, Naoki and Akari. They were the ones who created Perception Art with the help of Togo Takise, Kyo’s father, and had their fair shares of worries and stress. They were worried about whether or not their creation would be accepted and they were also stressed about the amount of protestors rejecting Perception Art, saying about how it’s not true art and such. The episode also showed the presence they had in Kazuya’s life. While they were busy, Kazuya still loved them. Even though they didn’t have much time for him and always made him in the company of Kyo and Jun, he still loved them dearly. Losing them made Kazuya realize how lonely he was. Even if he was able to move on thanks to Jun’s family taking him in, there’s still an emptiness within him that cannot be filled up anymore.
I think this entire episode is building up to the incoming reveal of Kyo being the Scribbler. Kyo’s side of the story hasn’t been completely revealed yet. We’ve only seen how Naoki and Akari’s deaths affected Kazuya’s life but not a full introspective of how it affected Kyo’s. Maybe next episode will show Kyo’s perspective? Speaking of Kyo, it’s said that his mother passed away. His mother Yua was another factor of how Perception was able to be created. I kind of wanted to see that. Maybe in the future?
Like in the previous episode, the harsh art world gives this anime a bit of a serious mood as it does reflect real life in a way. When something new comes, people reject it. I got reminded of how AI art isn’t considered art. Perception art was considered unethical hence so many protestors. However, Perception art is NOT AI art as people in this anime did manage to get it accepted, but with how so many art critics have a bit of a bias towards it given what happened with Iori, it’s a given that the episode goes off a more realistic approach with changes?
The surprise MVP of this episode is Jun. Jun doesn’t have much of a role other than being the mutual childhood friend of Kazuya and Kyo, but without Jun, Kazuya would’ve been truly alone. Without Jun, the other two would’ve drifted more apart. Jun is like the link that connects them both in a way. Jun cares for Kazuya’s well-being and he’s always trying to remind him about Kyo. Jun is the best boy in this anime, honestly.
I just hope that this flashback episode does answer the question of Kyo being the Scribbler. If he isn’t, there was no point of this episode. This now pegs a question: Why did Kyo become the Scribbler? Why did he do it? I want to know!

Opus.COLORs Character’s Q&A with the voice actor’s greetings
Takise Togo ~ Toriumi Kousuke
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1)   Q&A with Takise Togo What is your specialty dish? I lost my wife early on, so I think I’m a reasonably good cook. I think pancakes are my son’s favorite.  2) I’m Toriumi Kousuke, who plays the role of Takise Togo. Togo-san is Kyo’s father and director of Eisen High School.  While watching over the growth of young people such as Kazuya and Kyo, I would like to carefully portray Togo -san’s own life, including his own past.  Also, many of the names in this work are difficult to read, so I will do my best in that area as well.  Favorite color: I like black. But lately, I much prefer light colors such as light blue and yellowish green. But I think that will change soon.

Opus Colors Episode 3 Review: I Said I Came Here For The Art
I said I came here for the art. I was not disappointed. While this is mainly an episode where Kazuya and Kyo are finally resonating, it’s an episode where the premise of Perception art is finally utilized again. They finally make something together and it’s beautiful.
Tumblr media
Kazuya finally learns that he cannot be thinking about himself when paired with Kyo. While he wasn’t entirely selfish, his mindset was mainly he wants to work with Kyo but Kyo never likes any of his ideas. It’s not his fault, honestly. Kyo’s topic was broad and vague. He’s always trying to get Kyo to notice him, but after a talk with Kyo’s father, he realizes that he needs to step up so that Kyo can notice his efforts, hence the creation of that beautiful work.
Two new characters are introduced in this episode. The first is the Eisen High’s director, Director Takise, Kyo’s father. As someone who was friends with Kazuya’s parents since their student days, he understands the partnership between Graders and Artists the best. In fact, of the Yamanashi and Takise couples, Mr. Takise was the only Grader, meaning Mrs. Takise is an Artist. Interesting. He’s the catalyst for Kazuya to finally understand what it is that he’s missing from his work that will make Kyo satisfied. I do like how, despite being the esteemed director, he still allows Kazuya to call him Uncle. That’s super cute. Mr. Takise seems like a nice person too. I hope he keeps showing up.
The next new character is Iori Haijima. He has been teased for the previous episodes as someone who is a skilled Artist. Today’s episode, we learn that he was once paired with Kyo back in their first years and won the contest. Given that he is someone who holds his own solo exhibitions, he is a big deal as an artist. He considers his Graders to be his femme fatales, with Kyo being his OG and Takumi Yura, his current Grader, as his new femme fatale. Iori is a very interesting character, honestly. He’s flirty and smug—even more than Sakaki. His interactions with Kyo reeks of love triangle subtext. I just hope he’s not a thorn on the side for the main duo.
Takumi Yura was shown in the previous episode as someone who’s obsessed with Iori and wanting him as an Artist for the contest. They haven’t fully interacted yet, but Takumi was glaring at him for “flirting” with Kyo. I hope he gets more focus in future episodes because he seems like a one note character for now. Speaking of which, he has the same surname as the pink-haired college student Daiki Yura. Are they brothers?
Speaking of which, in the previous episode, I mentioned that Jun and Michitaka felt like a side couple. Someone commented that they are cousins/relatives. I was writing the review in the middle of the night. I overlooked that detail. While they still give off that vibe, I’m not particularly a fan of incest ships. If that’s your cup of tea, you’re allowed to ship it. Look, I don’t care if you give me the problematic label. Read this article that I wrote on my blog about why I don’t give a f**k about your shipping morals.
Anyways, if the art was this good for the third episode, I’m curious about what sort of art quality the anime will have in future episodes. I’m ready for visual greatness.
