Sorry my regular mutuals for the completely random Sailor Moon overthink, but I didn't ask to just only realise this now so...

The Shitennou's uniform colours correspond to the colours of the Buddhist shitennou, and because of this the Jadeite-Rei/Mars and Zoisite-Ami/Mercury pairs makes sense.

The green that Zoisite wears is the colour of Tamonten, the king of the North. In Gogyou (Wu Xing) philosophy, the North belongs to the domain of the element Water, and the corresponding planet is Mercury.

The blue that Jadeite wears is the colour of Zouchouten, the king of the South. The element of the South is fire, and it's corresponding planet Mars. See? It fits.

But for some reason Nephrite and Kunzite are flipped.

Kunzite wears white, which is the colour of Jikokuten, king of the East, but the element of the East is Wood and its planet Jupiter. Nephrite wears red, which is the colour of the Koumokuten, king of the West, but the element for West is Metal/Gold and the planet Venus.

If we forcibly remap the colours to fit the Gogyou instead, then none of them fits except Kunzite (white = gold/metal). Wood can be either blue or green, but typically in anime logic blue is water and green is wood (as you can see in Mercury and Jupiter's colours). I guess you can force green to fit as black (black = water), but red is still fire and blue is wood and this doesn't match up.

Maybe someday I should try Googling if Takeuchi-sensei ever elaborated in full detail how this is supposed to make sense because I don't understand the logic here LOL. Nothing about this was explained in the Material Book, and I haven't tried to look if this was discussed elsewhere.

This is my second fanart about the classic manga/anime, 'Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon' by Naoko Takeuchi. Watching the anime on Saturday night was a very important weekly event in my childhood.📝

I know Sailor Mars' trade mark was the red pair of high heels, but I wanted her to be more comfortable in my drawing, so I put her in the 'kind of wedge trainers'😉

I can't be the only one who gets a little feral whenever takeuchi gives mars blazing red hair in artwork. i do like to imagine that the sailor crystal at their strongest begin to bleed into their physical appearance. so eventually, rei would achieve this by the 30th century.

There are actually plenty of other stories, but I don't have the transcriptions because all card stories were tied to pulling from the gacha. So there's a bunch of cards I didn't get because I couldn't afford them with gems (the in-game currency was rather stingy).
