Yess!!! Like he is a dramatic gremlin, no doubts, but like…. He’s a showman through and through and he is defs a show off without even thinking about it or trying…. But thats not all he is??? Like yeah i think esp by time Damians around he’s defs worked through some shit and found more peace with himself but he isn’t like…. Totally cheery ball of sunshine. Like. That just straight up isnt him.

Hes got layers and in comes that little wriggly showmanship again and like. Theres a reason everyone likes to say hes the oldest daughter of the family bc like. Hes good at putting on a smile and hiding behind it when he needs to or doesnt want to let onto something.

But also he was bruces emotional support orphan. Bruce wasn’t a dad to him. Not really. Yes he trained him, reigned in his feral child side a bit, but he wasn’t a parent. They were very much a teacher/student vibe and that was about it. Like i am sure theres moments bruce did try to give parental advice and stuff but like… few and far between and defs never the way he needed it. Like no wonder dick ran away.

But like i often dont like how hes written in fics where hes not one of the main characters bc they often boil him down to fanon joke like stereotypes. Like a meme. And i hate that when that happens.

im being so serious when i ask this, but, how has dick's characterization become so opposing to his actual character? like how in the world did this pervasive and frankly invasive depiction of him become so popular? where in the world did people get these scraps of personality that they've frankensteined together to create this fucking weirdo that shakes his ass for criminals and is the biggest attention seeker? for decades we have had pretty consistent source material that continually establishes that dick is quite serious and a leader, and also someone that cares deeply for people and has the skill set and willpower to do literally anything for them. how has this fanon characterization that's quickly becoming canon happened to him?
